We had a toastie, crab sandwich and a coffee and it was freshly made with fresh quality ingredients and absolutely delicious! Watching them cater patiently for all requests (no butter, extra pickle etc) is admirable and at peak times, as long as you are prepared to wait a short time, you won’t be disappointed.

With my partner we have travelled up to the fabulous Borders once or twice a week for in excess of a decade. We have always found the Cornhill Village Shop to be a great model for how these businesses can not just survive, but thrive to the benefit of the whole community. Without the Cornhill Village Shop local people would be faced with a 13-mile drive into Berwick or Kelso, often there is not even a bus-service and it is a long walk! They are a Grocery Shop, Delicatessen, Freezer Centre, cafe with outdoor seating, Off Licence, Gift shop, Card shop, Newsagent, National lottery & Health lottery agent, they have a full- time Post Office, they are a parcel collection & distribution point for Amazon etc., they stock bread, butter, bacon, cheese, milk & other everyday meals & ingredients. They sell a variety of fresh sandwiches, a good selection of pies from Foreman's of Norham, and they bake their own pies in increasingly large numbers every day single day. As soon as the Cornhill Gin Distillery opened they were supporting the business wholeheartedly, not just by drinking the gin, but by stocking it prominently on the counter as soon as they could. The truck-drivers who regularly frequent the Cornhill Village Shop are very pleasant, good-humoured local people, who are the life-blood of the Borders, often working long anti-social hours to supply the needs of the Borders community & earn a living. Julie and Linda employ lovely, thoughtful and friendly local staff & are a critically important local trainer and employer. And in spite of being a very busy shop, they take the time to exchange pleasantries, make customers welcome, and provide a vital communications hub for the elderly and disabled. If this is not enough I have seen how selflessly Julie and Linda give of their time, and seriously integrate with the local community. They are an enthusiastic part of Borders Links, Linda regularly organises Macmillan coffee mornings at the Village Hall, they delivered whatever was required by those who had to isolate during COVID and they Frequent local establishments in the evening such as the Collingwood Arms. Great people, doing a great job for the community. Well done to Linda, Julie and all of their staff.

We were looking for lunch after a trip to Lindisfarne and noticed this has excellent reviews. Popped in, few tables outside but noisy road and spindly chairs put us off! So glad we ventured inside.... what I can only describe as beautiful cakes and sandwiches on display with excellent prices too! The side salads looked amazing like a top class deli! We ordered 3 cheese and ham sandwiches....tasty warm foccacia with loads of filling and side salads...a very good value at £9 as it was a huge meal! Can of coke on this warm day came cold and with a glass of ice at only£1.50 ! We holiday regularly in Northumberland and have been horrified by the jump in prices around the coast (and indeed in land!) And to find this quality at a good price was such a great surprise! Well done owner and staff! We will certainly be back to try the amazing cakes and strawberry cheesecake we saw but couldn't manage today!

The premises are about a mile off the main road. There is a small car park and an agglomeration of sheds, walls and a large tent. It took me some time to work out how to access the cafe as the sign indicating an entrance was well hidden. From a bright winter's day it was a surprise to enter a cafe so dark and dated, albeit with the pleasant sight of an open fire. There were no customers although this was an hour after opening, and no staff in evidence. After waiting some moments I twice tried pressing the bellpush on the counter. Eventually I called out a greeting but there was no response, and it was only after calling out loudly whether anyone was there that a man appeared, told me that the bell was indeed broken and that "she will be there in a minute". After another wait a lady appeared, who took my order. The scone and coffee were good, but the surroundings rather depressing. An art room opposite had its purpose scrawled in amateur fashion across the window, and there were many peremptory notices in evidence, which is always off-putting. I am an enthusiastic crafter, but this did not encourage me to enquire further. Overall the whole experience was a disappointment.

Many thanks to Simon, Sarah, and Gang for a fantastic stay. We arrived a little early after a very long drive. Simon let us into our room and gave us a Happy Anniversary balloon 🎈. Which was such a lovely touch. Room 5 was very clean and tidy, and it has everything you could want. I enjoyed a lovely soak in the bath before dinner, which was fabulous 👌... We had drinks in the bar & a lovely meal. Always a bonus when vegetarians are catered for. 😃 The macaroni cheese was yummy. My hubby had gammon, eggs, and chip which he said it was excellent. Lots of choice on the menu and such a great atmosphere. We slept really well and had a wonderful breakfast before leaving. Lots of choices, cereals, juice toast, and a cooked breakfast. All served piping hot & cooked to perfection. We can't thank you enough for your making us feel so welcome ☺️
