Had an excellent Sunday lunch here yesterday. The choice was excellent, beautifully cooked beef and accompaniments. My son had fish which he also said was very tasty. Lovely staff, nothing too much trouble, even had a treat for the dog. Will definitely go back.

Outdated restaurant with a poor menu. They have a menu in their web site but they offer you a different one in the restaurant. It used to be quite good 20 years ago but not any more. Spider webs, broken lamps on the walls and the tables are not clean. Special mention: the wine glasses! They look like plastic! They need to buy a decent gassware. It is a pity, the place is very nice but it needs a make over urgently. The man who served us seemed to be on a hurry and he was very grumpy. Not a nice experience, i would not recommend this restaurant…

Visited tonight with my wife . One of the best in the local area and we live here! The scallops and trout starter both perfect . The home made bread and beetroot butter and unexpected treat . The mains of lamb and pheasant all cooked and tasted lovely . Disappointed we have not tried before so close to home . Very very impressed . Compared to some of the high end places I’ve visited (in my reviews) this is as good as now closed Mizen head in Bamburgh . Please give it a try . Wasn’t busy but I would book at a weekend . We were so disappointed. Although being warned that the beef would take 45 minutes, we waited an hour and a half for our food (we did not order starters) and when it arrived it was over cooked and chewy. We requested rare and both came beyond well done. We were offered a round of drinks on the house but the most disappointing part of the evening was the attitude of the manageress - yes we were offered a discount but she made a bad meal unsalvageable. Sorry but definitely would not recommend.

Something on the menu to suit all tastes/appetites/budgets. We had prawn cocktail x 2 and Steak ciabatta and mushroom omelette plus a bottle of excellent Pinot Grigio. All Covid-19 rules in force but felt safe and relaxed. After we left we popped into Cornhill Village Store (terrific little shop/cafe).

Having eaten here a couple of years ago and being impressed, I convinced my friends that we should stop off here for a light lunch after having a walk. I phoned a few days earlier to check if they did lunches/soups etc on a Sunday. They confirmed that they start serving this at 2:30pm after the Sunday lunches. We arrived at 2:15 and were told that they only served a fixed Sunday menu on a Sunday. When I explained that I had rang previous to check, the staff member said "Oh yes, but we don't start serving until 2:30 " as it was now 2:20pm we said we would wait . She showed us to a table in the restaurant where the were only 2 customers, hardly rushed off there feet. She said she would check if we could be served early. We each ordered soup and sandwich from the menu the sandwiches were priced at £7 - £7.50 but there was no price against the soup and sandwich separate deal. It took ages for the food to come. Soup was delicious but my Ham sandwich left a lot to be desired. For the price I expected to have nice baked Ham but I got the thin/sllmey cheap stuff you get from Supermarkets. The shocker came when the bill arrived 3 x Soup and sandwiches and 1 small bottle larger. £43. When we checked we had been charged £7 - £7.50 for the sandwiches+ £6 for the soup. I went to the bar to query the bill . arguing that if we ordered soup separately it would have come with a roll and the sandwiches would have come with crisps and coldslaw garnish. The lady behind the bar did look up a few things before she reluctantly gave us a revised bill of £28. £15 difference. We paid and left there wasn't any apology I think they felt like we were trying to rip them off. I think it was the other way on. I heard since that the Collingwood has recently changed hands, I won't be returning again.

We called in on the way home from Scotland having heard good things from friends about the food here, the service was quick and friendly and the food was ok, I was totally undecided about what to have and in my panic chose the pan fried cod, which was ok but lacked flavour - should have just stuck with the fish and chips! My mistake!! We sat in the bar area, there is a restaurant for more special dining too! We probably would return if passing but maybe not make a special trip out.

Went for dinner with the family... not overly impressed. The staff are friendly and helpful, however the speed of service wasn't so good, not the restuarant staff fault. Thought maybe they had to chase and catch the cow, as dinner took so long to arrive. When it did, although the food tasted nice, had we recieved it when it was cooked, it would have been hot, instead of warm. The chips, what there was (all 7 of them), were sprinkled with some sort of spice. What happened to good old fashioned plain chips. Most places I've been to include onion rings with the steak dinner, not as added extra... On a plus side... the pint of real ale was good.Last time we attended this pub, was for a quiet drink one evening.Having waited at the bar for 15 minutes for a member of staff to show up... we decided not to wait any longer and left...Probably won't be returning here again.

Then told by another member of staff that we could in fact be catered for. It didn't look too busy. Only 2 staff on duty, serving food and looking after bar so they were rushed. My steak pie came with just a crust and no meat!! Made everyone laugh but actually not that funny. Veg bit dry and overcooked. Can't comment on starters or desets as didn't order. We had previously had an enjoyable lunch here in the main bar area and liked the look of the restaurant so booked or a mid week evening. It was one of the most enjoyable evenings in lovely surroundings. It’s so nice to have supper at a place where people dress nicely, no jeans and t.shirts. We all had a main course and a dessert, followed by coffees. With a ore paid round and one with our meal for the 3 of us we spent just shy of £100 but felt it was a very good deal. At no time were we rushed and although they apologised at our wait we were quite happy having pre dinner drinks in the lovely reception area and having a good chat. Not long after we were called in we were served with piping hot food of a very good quality. My husband had the venison and said it was outstanding. Highly recommend.

We’d happily eaten here in the past and called in midweek for lunch on our way for an appointment later that afternoon at 2.00pn. We arrived at the main entrance to find a sign saying “please ring the bell as the door is closed due to the wind”. We duly rang the bell and after a little while a member of staff opened up he door. She turned and headed back to the bar/restaurant without a word to us, no greeting or welcome, no come in from the cold and wind. We followed her to the bar and waited our turn whilst another couple were served their drinks. It was 12.40 and we then asked the same member of staff who had opened the door for us if we could have a table for two in the restaurant. Without any softening words said we would not be able order any food until 1.00pm as they had a table of eight arriving who had preordered their food. I asked her how long it would take to receive our food if we ordered it at 1.00pm and was told that she couldn’t say, again no hint of any warm/customer friendly words. I prefer to spend our money where customers are welcomed and valued. The service here was colder than chilly wind outside. Unfortunately, we certainly won’t be trying this place again,

Most of the meal would deserve 4 to 5 stars and have never been disappointed before but why a decent restaurant think it is okay to dish up frozen chips and mass produced meringues. If I wanted my food from Tesco I would not choose to go to a restaurant to have it heated up / plated up. This has spoiled what else would have been an excellent meal. It should be noted that they did change chips for potatoes when I asked - hence higher than 1 star.

They put people with dogs on tables directly opposite the bar, so not only uncomfortable to have people standing just above you at the table whilst they prop up the bar, dog close to getting stood upon.Waitress did not know what dishes were gluten free and had to consult the kitchen a couple of times. Even when ordered a 'gluten free' dish, it came with a side portion of toasted bread, that I was told would be gluten free, but after eating a little piece I knew it wasn't. I was ill all week. Apart from that the food was just ok. Certainly not close to being the best in the area as they claim! There were 10 of us eating at the Collingwood Arms last Saturday. We go every year, often more than once, as a group renting a local cottage (Tillmouth Cottages - I can thoroughly recommend them! They are just a mile or so up the road). Last year was disappointing as another member of the group posted here, but now - to set the record straight - I can say that the food, atmosphere and service was wonderful for our most recent visit. One of the highspot choices on the menu is the Catch of the Day - fresh fish from Eyemouth - either in batter or grilled. It did not disappoint. Between us, the 10 of us tested quite a lot of what was on offer, and it all lived up to the Collingwood Arms's excellent reputation. Including a modest amount of wine, and taking into account that most people had 2 courses, I think an average of £24 per person is excellent value for a lovely meal in a fine building, with service to match.

Top drawer, and thank you making our stay so pleasant.

My wife and I visited the restaurant for dinner. The staff were really warm and welcoming when we arrived. The reviews on this site don't do the food the justice it really deserves.I started with the Haggis and Black pudding stack and I was not disappointed. It was to die for.My wife had the scollops and they too, were delicious. The main course arrived and my wife had the Belly Pork and I had the Venison...heaven!Dessert followed, Elton Mess and Cheese Board. Both very yummy indeed. We will be back!

Only stayed one night on an Itison deal. Very friendly , efficient staff. Extremely nice room. Food very good although I felt that the main course menu was a little limited in choice. Would most certainly return. A great stay.

I took a party of 8 couples to the Collingwood Arms last Saturday and I can only say that the whole experience from beginning to end was fantastic. The staff were polite and attentive throughout and nothing was too much bother for them. They even arranged for the Six Nations rugby to be shown in the lounge for those who were interested. The meals were the highlight of the evening and as our party was so large I think everything on the menu was seen and sampled. It was all first class both in presentation and quality. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the only slight 'complaint' was that the evening passed far too quickly. We will most definitely revisit the Collingwood whenever we are back in the area. A huge thank you to everyone who made this such a special night !

This is primarily has a strong focus on fish and game – with venison, duck or salmon – served without fussy presentation. Puddings are rich and spoiling. The bar menu is more crowd-pleasing with homemade pies, burgers and fish and chips. Some fruit and vegetables are home-grown. Eat in either the cheery brasserie or the restaurant. The latter, with views over the attractive garden, is okayBreakfast is a short but thoughtful menu, including local kippers, with decent-sized pots of coffeeThis Inn is based on a main road: the A697, one of the principle routes into Scotland and which crosses the River Tweed border at nearby Coldstream. Other than the river, Cornhill-on-Tweed has little to offer (village shop, church, agricultural suppliers). The Borders – Berwick-upon-Tweed, Kelso, Melrose – and north Northumberland attractions of Holy Island, Ford & Etal Estate villages and Cheviot Hills, are within a 30 to 40-minute drive. There are dedicated rooms for fishing gear and guns, plus free kennels for dogs. Any fish caught can be cooked for your supper, frozen, or smoked, for you to take home. Fishing and horse-riding can be arranged; there are maps of local walks; plus drying facilities and cycle storage. Dogs are allowed in the public areas, but not where food is served. I noted that Staff love chatting with guests.

This is a nice building, the grey green walls inside a little more forgiving with people in the room, as opposed to my last visit when the empty restaurant felt a little dull. The menu is okay if not overly exciting and has a feel of not really changing, a number of "fancy pub classics" appearing. This includes some starters up to £10 and mains at £20. We ended up skipping starters (I would have been tempted by either of the ones that had run out!) and went for mains. My fish and chips was a curious thing, once it came.We waited fifty minutes from sitting down to receiving food which isn't great. I seem to recall on a previous visit being given bread to fill the gap and that might have been a nice touch. The fish was huge but there were a miserly six fat chips, another person had just five. When one of our group asked for chips to go with a similarly miserly vegetarian dish (and sadly the only one on the menu) they were told it would be fries as there were no more of the fatties! Presumably ours was a reduced portion if they had run out.The fish was great, the batter very good and not a sign of grease. I would have preferred a smaller fish (it was a whale) and more chips!!!We did ask for dessert menus but waited so long for someone to come back that we decided to have something at home instead. I do feel for the two table staff as they were servicing the restaurant, the bar and the hotel. Not having enough staff cost the place £15 from our table, at least.City prices in the country need to be accompanied by sharper delivery of the end product. I saw dishes on other tables come out late too. But it wouldn't take much at all for this place to move up a level, to the level they are charging for.

We haven't been to The Collingwood for a couple of years. It did not disappoint. Both ourselves and our friends live locally so it was easy to get to.The waitresses and the bar staff couldn't have been more helpful. The food was first class. We have all dined in Michelin * restaurants and honest the main course of venison loin was probably the best any of us have ever had.We weren't rushed, ok it was mid-week so not overly busy. The evening was fab. We will definitely return and the sooner the better for me.

Been meaning to visit here for a few years, every time we've tried it's always been fully booked which says something. Finally ate here early this evening, lovely decor and atmosphere, very good service, and good quality fresh food - the rack of lamb really had to be seen to be believed. Three courses plus wine all for £40 per head which was much cheaper than expected. I could find very little to fault this place, and will definitely be returning.

This hotel was recommended in the notes in our holiday cottage and we decided to give it a try, without booking. We were quickly shown to a large table which was set for four but could easily have seated eight.Service was excellent. Drinks orders taken quickly and the various menus provided and explained. My starter of scallops was well cooked and very tasty. Our mains of venison and fish and chips were all cooked to perfection and well presented. No room for desserts on this occasion.A real find on a holiday which did not always produce good eating places. Can't wait for my next visit to the area so I can try this hotel again.

The Collingwood Arms has a short lunch menu and cook it well. There's usually an interesting special beer (often local) on tap in the bar, in addition to the mainstream stuff you get everywhere.Service is fine, if not quick, and the main offense is piped music, playing whether the customers want it or not.The last time I ate there, I ordered their burger, which turned out to be a substantial dish, with chips and onion rings filling a pretty large plate. I did finish it, then didn't feel remotely hungry 'til lunchtime the next day. A pretty tasty burger it was too, although not the juiciest. Mind you, juicy burgers tend to disintegrate brioche buns, so maybe that was deliberate. My dad had the salmon and crayfish tian, which was more modestly proportioned without being meagre.I have eaten lunches at the Collingwood Arms several times over the last few years, and it seems to be very consistent, from the food to the beer, to the calm, subdued decor, to the service, to the boombox churning out unnecessary music by the side of the bar.
