Dropped in after a walk at Seaton Sluice: dog friendly, and managed to get a table on a busy Sunday. Staff really friendly and accommodating - ordered 4x fish and chips and it was brilliant. Would visit again!

Might have been a bad day at the office but not sure what the hype is after having read some really good reviews. Booking for 3 adults 2 children (2&7)12:00 on Sunday 27th Oct. We initially wanted to come for the seafood platter, however, this was unavailable on a Sunday which can't be helped. We opted for 2 Sunday lunches, 1 salmon, and a sausage and mash. All of the veg that was served with the mains was luke warm at best, the Yorkshire pudding with one of the mains was burnt, the mash was lumpy, the roasts were in my opinion inedible (hard and dry on the inside and the skin was tough and soggy as if cooked from frozen or reheated), no cutlery was given, the salmon was swimming in a sauce almost as if it were a soup (could be preference but not how I would serve it personally). We were asked twice if everything was OK and we said unfortunately not and specified why. The service stated that they check on this for us but nothing was mentioned or escalated and we paid full price for all meals. We would have returned to try the seafood platter (as we've heard good things) if some effort was made to potentially refund part of the meals but no effort was made to rectify this. In addition to this we had to wipe down our table, seats and high chair as they were dusty and unclean. The gents toilets were very unclean also. We went to an Italian chain restaurant the week before and the food was far superior and better value for money. Overall, quite disappointing given the reputation from positive reviews.

Very disappointed with my food there today. It was cold, the roast potatoes were clearly not fresh, I had to removes bits of food from the chairs before we could sit down and the high chair was filthy. Not given cutlery until we had to ask for it, made our concerns to 2 staff members and nothing done about it. So sad as have read some good reviews about the place😢

After a 5 hour drive for the fish and chips we weren't dissatisfied very good food all weekend room was excellent and made me and my partner and basil the dog very welcome excellent service thank you to the staff for your excellent service

First time in years been here absolutely lovely dinners and cheap for the price nice and hot,been all over for dinners this is the best will be visiting again

Me and the good lady were visiting friends in Northumberland. So we decided to do a stop over on the way up..wife found the Waterford on the Web.. What can I say, Shelley and her team are just A1. Great pub, super food, nice rooms, we enjoyed yourselves that much we stopped again on the way down. Please visit, and by the way, do try the " fish plater for 2"....fantastic.

King Prawn and Chorizo main was unbelievable. And to my delight they were overly generous on the King prawns. 100% be getting it again! Service was brilliant as usual.

We didn't book in advance, and the place was fully booked, but the staff we're extremely friendly & helpful in finding us a table to eat ( at least I know for next time to book) anyway I ordered Whale and Chips ( a 32 Oz Cod) which was absolutely massive, well worth every penny, and was cooked to perfection! Crispy batter and fish so full of big flakes, the quality was simply amazing! We're definitely planning to go back, as the food was excellent and the service we experienced was first class, for example when we also asked for sausage and chips ( which wasn't on the menu, they still happily obliged,nothing was too much trouble for them, even though, they were all very busy. Looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend 10/10

We visited last night for my husbands birthday tea and we’re very pleased with everything The food was amazing and lovely service the place was chocca for a Monday night so please it’s doing well We live in sluice so we will be back soon Loved it that much visited with friends today for lunch 🤭 I’d recommended the fish pie it’s was fantastic ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ate last night. The guy dealing with us was spot on, thank you! The food was substandard. Starters: garlic mushrooms- cold; potatoe skins - as expected; mussels in tomato and chilli- half were still closed and sauce was lukewarm (bad tummy this morning...thanks) Mains: fish and chips regular - cold have done with a bit longer for the batter to get crispy but fine; gammon - all good with this; chowder- prawns were hard but overall nice, the little bits of cut french stick could have been fresher. Desserts: I didn't order one as I'd given up by this point, however the party ordered sticky toffee pudding - over microwaved, berry and apple crumble- awful, looked like they had run out of crumble, sprinkled some icing sugar and a squirt of ice cream sauce over the top. Hit and miss food and apart from the gammon and potato skins we would not recommend. Might have just been a bad night but seriously, what cook EVER leaves 50% of a mussel dish with closed mussels? I'm left with a dodgy belly and a 5 hour drive later today, thanks.

Excellent fish & chips for lunch today. Available small, medium or large. And the small is still a good size and reasonably priced. Fresh fish, cooked just right. Plus a full menu available. Well worth a visit. Back for lunch again. Fish Friday special offer (on everyday) is excellent value - fish & chips, tea, bread & butter for two people - very reasonable price for two, excellent.

Nice pub atmosphere. Food was great. Service was very slow which according to other reviews is normal. 40 minutes wait for a meal. Disappointing. Close to the seafront which made it handy for us to go walk the beach and seafront shops.

What can i say food amazing just had large fish & chips husband had whaler & chips could of fed 6 people or more .the best around not just size taste was absolutely outstanding lovely dry fish chips dry & fluffy best value around for what u get as that all includes mushy peas ,curry sauce,gravy,& tater sauce .10 out of 10 ..we will be back x

Group of 4 called in on a Wednesday lunchtime (booked in advance). Extensive menu, good selection of vegetarian/vegan options, we settled on the 2 for £20 fish, chips mushy peas, bread/butter and a pot of tea deal x 2. The fish (cod) was huge, well cooked, coated in lovely crisp batter, chips were nice and chunky, staff were pleasant and efficient. If your looking for really good fish and chips, excellent value for money in a spacious traditional bar/restaurant I'd recommend the Waterford Arms, well worth a visit.

Pub downstairs was delicious for both breakfast and dinner. Staff was all very friendly and gracious. Bed was a little sunken in, but overall really comfortable, and the view out the window made up for any shortcomings!

stayed one night here recently and it was brilliant - nice room with a view of the sea, great staff and the food was amazing and very reasonably priced.

Had the seafood platter which was immense. Highly recommend this place if you fancy good fresh, tasty, well cooked seafood. Also serves great pub classics.

We have returned after 7mths to try again and give it another chance.....Well this time everything was perfect, food was piping hot, good portion sizes, mine was a small and i left a few chips 🫨and it tasted lush. Service was perfect, just shows don't judge on a 1st visit we will be back 😀

Went for breakfast this morning I had eggs benedict and the daughter had the full English breakfast both lovely only thing that was disappointing was the sausage a bit overdone

Dropped in for a quick snack we had a ham cheese and mushroom toasties was very very nice with proper chips as well

Always loved it here,good food great prices.Not this time ,worst Sunday lunch ever.All heaped together on the plate ,see through gravy ,bland and topped off with undercooked red cabbage,looked and tasted terrible .Roast potatoes and parsnip white and bland .It has put me off the place ,not sure if I will return.

I’ve been going to the Waterford occasionally for Sunday lunch for a long time but since Shelley took over, the whole pub has improved so much - I’m 100% a regular on Sundays now! I used to enjoy their Roasts but, a while back, I tried their Mince (asked for a yorkie and no dumpling) and this has now become my fav! So rich and tasty, lovely veg, a perfect crunchy yorkie that doesn’t explode - and some horseradish on the side! Best way to spend a Sunday lunch time 😂. Btw the rest of the weekly menu won’t disappoint either, if you can’t get there on a Sunday!!! Well worth a visit!

Absolutely lovely food today! There were so many prawns in my marinara with linguine. I needed a pot to take the sauce home with!

As a first time visitor we didn’t know what to expect from The Waterford but on the recommendation of friends gave it a try. I’m pleased to say the food was first rate, I had Seafood Linguine which was particularly good, the others in our group enjoyed fish and chips. Our waiter (a young chap) couldn’t have been more helpful and anticipated my need for a bowl for the empty mussel shells before I had asked! First class service, efficient but not rushed. The meals going out to other tables also looked good, and nothing was excessively priced. The only problem we encountered was a couple of families whose children were either screaming (literally) or playing on noisy console games. Perhaps they could be encouraged to sit at one end of the pub - it’s a big enough place.

Bar meal only but 5 Star and dog friendly, The whale of Cod was superb.

This is a typical looking locals pub serving pub food, don’t be fooled. The food is superb, fresh and tasty and plenty of it. My sister and I opted for the Fishermans Platter and it was a tasty dish of different seafoods prepared and flavoured in different ways, all as good as each other. I can eat and hate to see food wasted but could not finish it. The fish and chips are equally as good and satisfying.

Called into the Waterford arms today for our lunch, the place was nice and welcoming and had friendly staff and was nice and clean, we found a table and ordered 2 lattes while looking threw the menu, we ordered 2 of the battered grilled halloumi with chips and mushy peas, and some onion rings and the homemade coleslaw, the food was amazing excellently cooked and plenty of it I couldn't eat it all and fetched mine home to have for my tea, I cannot believe IV never been here before considering I'm local must just have always overlooked the place but never again, cannot wait for my next visit, I recommend this to anyone weather just visiting the area and staying in their rooms or local people, im sure you wont be disappointed, i know i wasn't Thanks for a lovely lunch

called in on spec for sunday lunch we had not booked excellent staff very helpfull sort us a table out. we had to wait a while as the place was very busy but when the meals arrived it was massive and very nice. cant fault the staff they never stop and the kitchen staff should be complemented on the meals the turn out.next time we are down that way we will definitely call in there again

Too long to wait for food, one of the party sent fish back because it came cold. She waited 80 minutes in total. No one came to see if our meal was ok. Staff were not helpful.

So good to see a full vegan menu displayed on the wall & tables. The food is superb with large portions. The staff we very friendly & helpful. We will be back

Although small, the rooms were clean and well appointed. The bed was comfy and everything worked well in the bathroom. Great sea view. Our rate included food which was excellent. Private car park and plenty of on road parking available. Friendly staff.

Nice little traditional pub. Stopped in here on a walk up from the Park Dean caravan park. Only stopped for drinks but my kids had apparently been checking out the pub on Google Maps and said it did good Fish and Chips, haha.

We waited 25 mins for a child desert ( brownie and ice cream). I went and paid the bill as we were sick of waiting and the staff appeared to be congregating in the bar area watching the build up to the match. I wasn’t even asked if everything was ok or if we’d enjoyed our meal. It’s an experience I won’t be revisiting.

Excellent service and delicious food. The service was great. Friendly atmosphere, great experience, call into the Waterford arms and try the whale of a fish. Food for all taste buds. I had the mixed Grill. Hubby had the fish. Onion rings were so delicious, massive, too.

Been waiting a while to sample the Sunday lunches- we live over 200 miles away - and finally we have achieved a visit! Called in late teatime and both ordered the small Sunday roast. It arrived promptly- I had pork loin which was so tender, hubby had beef and his was equally as good, both accompanied by Scrumptious roasties, mashed potatoes, and vegetables with a Yorkshire pudding and tasty gravy. The portions were generous so we shared a lemon cheesecake- divine! This is the second time we’ve eaten at the Waterford Arms- the Sunday lunch was definitely worth waiting for- just need to get another trip over to sample the seafood platter next time!!

I would like to thank the staff at the Waterford arms Seaton sluice.for making my retirement party a night to remember. The service was amazing everyone one you were so lovely. I'd like to thank Roy and his staff for the lovely food for my buffet everyone commented on how gorgeous it was and I must agree it was fabulous so thank you's again I'd highly recommended anyone wanting lovely friendly staff and amazing food to book the Waterford arms for a function x

I enjoyed my stay here and found it an ideal location for my business work in Whitley Bay which is a 6 minute drive away. My room was clean and comfortable and staff made me very welcome. My only disappointment was that breakfast started very late - at 9.00 am so I had to leave before this. Other than that, it was a very good place and i would return.

What a find . Seaton Sluice is beautiful and close to National Trust Seaton Delval hall and Northumberlands fabulous beaches. The Waterford Arms is a big pub offering B& B and the most delicious food at great prices. Exceeded our expectations.

Booked a table for a meal and turned up 10 mins early to be told no table was ready so we could wait or eat in the bar, we chose the bar as we were with kids and did not want to wait. Waitress took our drinks order and she said she would come back after we asked for an extra 5 mins to pick food. 35 mins later we paid for the drinks and left as nobody came to take our order.

Disappointing signature dish "The Whale". Dry, hard and tasteless. Sorry guys - must try better

We went for a late Sunday lunch and it was great. The food was very good and the portions huge. The staff was super friendly even after a long day on their feet. The dining area is very nice and everyone in there seemed to have a good time. We'll for sure come back.

4 of us had lunch today food was excellent, i had the mince and dumplings nicest I have had for a while. All 4 of us really enjoyed what we had, service was very good,and we all said we would return.

Lovely food yet again, was busy in the restaurant. We had originally booked for 2 but then added on an extra 2 which wasn’t a Problem. Hannah very friendly having a chat. Graham cooking amazing food as always thank you the halomi fries were lush😊. Think my daughter aged 24 and boyfriend 29 were slightly taken aback being asked by waiter for their ID when they ordered a beer with their meal which is legal to do🤣 but apart from that had a lovely evening. Great atmosphere.

The best fish and chips in the North East by a mile 👌

We booked here for a birthday meal out with a mixed party of omnis and vegans. Vegan options included burger, coleslaw and chips, lasagne, salad, chips and garlic bread, sausage and mash, or curry (masala or madras) and rice. Starters included soup of the day (we had vegetable soup and it was amazing!!!) or potato skins. Loads of vegan sauces available too including garlic mayo, mayo, bbq, sweet chilli. Children got a 3 course meal plus drink for £6!!! and were kindly given the options off the main vegan menu but child size. Although the portion sizes were very generous!! Another children's starter option was veg sticks. Dessert today was ice lollies or vegan cheesecake which was also tasty. A member of staff mentioned she is dairy intolerant so there are always plenty of vegan options. All in all we were fed with tasty food, decent portions, helpful staff , very good value for money and lovely location.

Rang ahead to order Waterford Whale to share & 1 large fish ... telephone service excellent, as to service in pub around takeaway .. however Whale not as previous pics we'd seen, over-done, some edges of fish chewy as a result! Lge fish was cooked but batter very pale, with uncooked batter sticking to the fish underneath which spoilt it! Not even sure fish was cod?? Consistency between 2 meals ordered hours in advance very poor, also, wedges not chips 🤔. Overall 3 stars & won't be making the hour long journey again 😌. Location was the highlight 😊 P.S. had pic of food but can't see how to share unfortunately 🤔

Called in for lunch on a weekday. It was nice and quiet and clean and tidy. But ...... The service was very slow. I ordered fish and chips and my wife had lasagna. That was very dry in so much as she had to send it back. She couldn't eat it I had fish and chips with mushy peas. The fish was nice, it was white and well cooked and the batter was well cooked without being overdone. The mushy peas were a bit on the grey side. And the chips..... Cut more like wedges than chips and still had the skin on. And were over cooked the big ones where almost black and the small ones were crunchy and crisp. They were good about our comments and took it in good manner. We didn't get charged for my wife's meal. We paid £2:50 for the cibbatta toast They did offer to replace her meal but it took them so long to bring the first one we decided against another long wait. The staff are pleasant and the surroundings nice. But it's not a place we will be eating at again.

Very disappointed, had to wait an hour for food. Fish was the smallest "regular" we've ever had, mushy peas, chips and fish were cold. Will not be returning.

Absolutely stunning food lovely service visited 15th May 2024 we shared the Whaler 32oz dish and chips, Photo does not do this justice it was Awesome shared it brought half home was as thick as my ankle £24.95 with bread and butter gravy mushy peas tartare sauce gravy and a pot of tea

The quality of the food saved it. We visited today after hearing for a long time that it did the best fish and chips. We entered the restaurant area to be told rather bruskly that it was full and we should go to the bar which we did and every table was empty and only one did not have a reserved sign on it. We sat at that. The room felt old and stale and not inviting. There were regulars sitting at the bar which as well as chatting to the staff made it difficult to get to the bar to place our order. We ordered fish and chips for 2 which were very reasonably priced and included bread and butter and tea. Despite the bar being empty ie no one coming in to sit at reserved tables the food took 30mins to arrive. When it did we realised we had no cutlery I had to go to restsurant to ask for it and it was thurst at me with out a word. I then realised we had not got the bread and again my request was treated as an irritation. When the Happy waitress brought the bread it was thrust over the barrier separating the upper level from the lower level. We then found that the vinegar and salt containers were both empty. I swopped theses with another table as did not want to inconvenience the blonde waitress again. I have to say the dark haired lady who took our order and money was excellent. By the time we left the reserved tables all remained empty. If you want nice fish and chips at reasonable price and not concerned about ambiance staff and standards then you won't be disappointed

Absolutely love this place, we’ve had breakfast, Sunday lunches and other bar food. I’m vegetarian and there’s always a tasty option for me. My daughter is fussy but always manages to find something she really enjoys. The staff are friendly and will always do their best to seat us but sometimes it’s just not possible because of how popular the place is. (Our fault got not remembering to book) we recently bought a voucher for my dad’s 70th birthday and he chose the seafood platter which didn’t disappoint! We would 100 % recommend the place.

Fabulous food. Good value. Stand out dish was the Seafood Platter. Shared between two this place was recommended by friend and didn't disappoint. Its good pub grub. Freshly cooked (we were warned that it would take a little while but 40 minutes was worth the wait)

Fantasic food all freshly made and the portion sizes are more than enough...great staff but want to say i also cant fault the server we had kelly she went out of her way to make sure we were happy with the food but was also so friendly and kind especially with the 2 kids.

Recently moved into the area and had lunch. We had Starters and Mains and neither of us could even think about Desserts !! I had the Seafood Chowder followed by Mixed Fish Curry and my wife had Mussels followed by the Medium Fish and Chips. The food was all delicious, hot and nicely presented, We weren't rushed at all and had a really excellent lunch. The waiting staff (Kelly, Shelley and Deb) all made sure we were well looked after and regularly checked back with us to ensure we were having a great Lunch. We will obviously be returning and would urge you all to give it a try if you are in the area or local.

Unfortunately did not get to eat here we rang to ask what time they stopped serving food. We arrived 45 minutes before they stopped serving only to be told that they had stopped serving. We did explain to the 2 ladies that we had rang and were advised that last orders was at 8PM to be met with a response from an aggressive member of staff well we aren’t serving now as the chef has decided. We did have my elderly parents with us and had travelled by public transport. The member of staff certainly has no customer service skills. I have eaten here before and it has always been great when visiting the area but certainly will never return.

Absolutely delicious shared seafood platter for two but could easily be shared between three. Will definitely be visiting again soon.
