An absolute gem on the Holy Island! We stopped here to grab a sandwich, some cake, and a drink to take with us as we explored the island. The customer service was excellent, the owner was an absolute delight and super helpful. The food is delicious, and a really good selection too! And on top of all that they sell maps and books of the island as well, it really is a must visit and a one stop shop for everything you need on your island adventures!

My partner and I decided to head here specifically based on a recommendation. We ordered a pot of tea, a coke, a baked potato with cheese and a banger and spicy chutney toasted sandwich with a side of chips (all came to ~£30). First of all there were no toasted sandwiches available, which was fine as we were not long before last orders, I accepted the bangers and spicy chutney as a plain sandwich. When the drinks arrived the cup and glass were not clean. The food arrived and it was all tasty food. However, halfway through my sandwich I was concerned that the bread was quite dry, I looked at it and there was small patches of mould on it. The chips tasted great, but I did notice that there were a couple of small flies seemingly cooked onto them. The jacket potato was good. We did not particularly find the staff friendly or approachable and they were trying to close, we were also tired and just wanted to leave.

Stopped here for lunch about 11:45 it was extremely busy and we got the last table indoors although there were still a couple available outdoors. There was plenty on the menu to suit everyone and the prices were not excessive. Portions were large, well and freshly prepared and presented. Even inside you can still people watch and enjoy your meal. This place is definitely worth a visit.

You might not realise from the website or from the outside signage but the Post Office and the adjacent Cafe are apparently separate businesses!? Hmm! My partner and I with our two furry friends in tow arrived relatively early in accordance with the tide timetable and thought we’d get a little coffee before things got too busy. In passing the establishment(s?) we though we’d take an outside table and sample some fayre before heading off to explore. With multiple tables available and only one other couple as customers, my partner went inside and placed an order at the establishments counter. In the interim, we had no one come to take outside. Unfortunately on sitting outside for twenty minutes we were surprisingly and abruptly told to take our “takeaway” purchases from the establishment and consume elsewhere. We and the other customers adjacent were astounded. We were subsequently advised that the businesses were separate and chastised to take our “rubbish” with us. In utter disgust with our treatment this point, I refused and advised that they should make it more clear for customers the nature of the dichotomy of the business. It initially spoiled our trip to the Holy Isle but thankfully the vistas and a trip to the Pilgrims Cage before heading back over the causeway restored our faith in good people, something utterly missing in this establishment(s). I apologise if this is unfair on the other adjacent business but I am unsure what the set up is and on further checking on the Internet, I am still sure. Safe to say however I won’t be back to either. I can only recommend you avoid and that the establishment(s) more fully understand the importance of their interdependence and more clearly define this to potential customers before they, like me, make the mistake of giving patronage.

We went for a tea and a coffee when we first arrived on the island this morning and were impressed by the incredibly friendly and efficient staff. We returned at lunchtime to try the food, based on the excellent impression they had made in the morning and we were not disappointed. I can thoroughly recommend the fresh crab sandwich (Which is pictured below). It was beautiful! Crammed full of crab, in a Stottie, served with a well dressed salad, served at room temperature and not chilled, which enhanced the flavour (chilled salad is a bug bear of mine). Truly excellent, friendly and efficient staff serving lovely, tasty food. A credit to a beautiful island. 👍

We returned to our favourite cafe on the island this week to enjoy a lovely lunch of homemade delights. All freshly made pastries and cakes that made our visit to the island so much more special. Returned before our journey home for a takeaway from the shop of fresh crab sandwiches that are made more special for knowing it has come fresh from the local fisherman. The sandwich was full of delicious crab , see the pic. Very popular and dependant on the local catch so we made sure we ordered early to avoid disappointment! Nice to see businesses supporting other local produce providers. A wonderful establishment with caring staff that are kean to ensure we enjoyed our visit. Gem of a place.

My first visit to Holy Island so I'd read up on where to eat. As this place rated highly I came here with my elderly Mum. It was busy, but we found a table outside fairly easily in the covered area. Yes, we had a wait for the coffee but I'd been advised of that when I placed the order. The service was excellent, although I think the staff were getting a bit exasperated at people coming to pay without making a note of the table number!! I'd also ordered 2 Melting Moments which were awesome!! Literally melting in the mouth and gone in a moment!! Will definitely visit again when I come to Holy Island. Thank you 😊

Nice enough people and the food was ok but we had to wait 55 minutes for sandwiches after being warned the wait time was 30 minutes and we clearly weren't the only ones. It was sunny when we went in and raining by the time we left so we never got our walk round the island. Not especially cheap either.

The crab sandwich was everything I'd hoped for and my husband really enjoyed his soup and cheese scone. The staff worked their socks off on this busy, wet day. No wonder it's such a popular cafe! The old Post Office shop next door sells a good range of postcards, view cards and maps but you can also get takeaway food there, along with delicious-looking quiches, sausage rolls and sandwiches. I had came here for food after a school trip but I had brought my own food and was eating it as I could not afford the food and all my friends had ordered food so I thought it would be okay. I was repeatedly harassed by the workers for eating my own food after all my friends had ordered and the woman who worked there was very rude to me, almost taking my food off of me. I am very disappointed with the service from here and won’t be returning. Also when I was leaving I was referred to as “pink bag” and pointed at and then the door was shut behind us as soon as we walked out the door.

Having made our way on to the island early morning, we were keen to explore . We worked up an appetite we were ready for some first class food. Unfortunately, the name is as first class as this place gets.Having been recommended this place by family friends we were excited. When we arrived, we didn't actually know if the place was open as the front door was shut. We braved the shut door to be ignored by the staff. No "hello" , no chit chat and certainly no eye contact. Considering the shop is not much bigger than the idiot box on the causeway I would have hoped to be noticed by the staff. Having stood pretending to read the various unhelpful menus on the wall, we were barked at to inform us that there was no food available apart from what we could see in the fridge or "I can do you a bacon or sausage roll"...so kind! We stared longingly in the fridge to be faced by a lonely pie and some unnamed quiches. Afraid but brave enough to dare ask what was in the quiches we asked for 2 quiche and 1 pie. We ordered some coffee and some sweet treats also. We were not blessed with prices but hoped for the best. I'm still unsure what anything cost.We left the island to have a picnic and watch the tide come in. We nestled into the grass like true Brits and busted out the picnic. Thank god for the stunning views because the food was AWFUL. The lonely pie was so peppery it could have been any meat..yuk. Pastry slightly under done just to top it off. Brownie looked tasty but tasteless, no one likes an empty calorie! Coffee does not compare to the coffee shop round the corner. Finally the quiche. It was ok but one smelt a little...different? We powered on and although extremely disappointed with the food we had a lovely day out.Don't get me wrong, I know the world is upside down and there are a lot of shortages and everyone is struggling. However I would expect at least eye contact from a shopkeeper. Unfortunately all I got was a gippy tummy all the way home!!!

We arrived at the coffee shop after a walk around the island. Walked into the coffee shop and asked if we could sit at a table. They sat us at a table gave us a menu and asked us to track and trace. We sat and waited and waited another couple came and sat at the table behind us eventually a waitress came and took there order but I jumped in and said we had been waiting longer. I asked what the cakes were on top of the counter. The lady came across very rude when she asked which one rather than just telling us what both cakes were on the counter. Service was quick but then we waited ages for them to come with the bill. The cafe was busy and people were been told to sit outside. If the service had been more organised inside tables would of become vacant quicker. It was a complete disorganised disaster people were going out of the door they arrived through and been stopped and told it was one way but there was no signs that said this. They need to look at how they manage there staff and organise it all then they might not be so unorganised not knowing what is going on. Shame as it put a dampner on our day.

We called in here for lunch. The food was average. Our issue was the service and the chaotic attempts by this cafe to comply with COVID-19 regulations. We arrived at about 11.45am. We queued as we expected to be seated, although staff didn’t speak to people outside and had no blackboard outside advising what to do. A couple were leaving, so we asked a waitress if we could sit at their vacated table and were told we could. The table still had pots on it from previous occupants. After 30 minutes and no one clearing the table or serving us, we asked the same waitress to serve us. She was busy taking an order from a party only just arrived. She said “I’ll be there in a minute”, but didn’t. After 45 more minutes we again asked to be served. A very rude waitress accused us “did you sit at a dirty table” we said “we were told to sit here” she didn’t apologise and asked someone else to serve us. They cleared the table, but didn’t wipe it, then left us again. We asked again to be served, the waitress asked for the order. We said please can you wipe the table? (Still covered in debris) She looked annoyed, but did so. We then had to ask her to record our “track and trace” info which had never been taken. NO WAITING STAFF HAD MASKS ON! I noted them carrying food to tables, talking over the trays. Potentially spraying virus onto food. We eventually ordered toasted sandwiches and coffee. Coffee arrived after 5 more minutes, great ! At last we had coffee. Toasties took another 30 minutes. Throughout our meal people walked past diners, heading to toilets or takeaway not wearing masks. Why not insist on customers wearing masks? Waiting staff were literally running about, chaotic, no direction or organisation. NO MASKS ! Diners were asked to leave the restaurant via a long “one way” route past lots of other tables rather than via the nearest exit. If this cafe wants to avoid being a COVID-19 hotspot they need to get organised. Staff must wear masks. They need info for customers at the door and on tables. I also suggest they avoid blaming customers for sitting at “dirty tables” which their own staff told them to sit at 45 minutes earlier. This cafe needs management. Track and trace might be busy from this venue. AVOID.

My husband and I just spent the last 10 days eating breakfast or lunch at 1st Class Food. The owners are a lovely couple and the staff are sweet young people. We were lucky enough to find 1st Class Food on our first day at Lindisfarne. We split the seafood platter and it was glorious! Everything was so fresh. We later found out that they get fresh seafood daily straight from the fishermen. Lindisfarne is known for the crab, but they also have great lobster. I really enjoyed the lobster salad and my husband loved the crab cakes. Their crab cakes are SO much fresher and meatier than any I have tried before. It is very obvious that this is a labour of love for the owners. There is also a handy little shop that you can get most things, including local delicacies and fresh made sandwiches. I also should mention that 1st Class Food is very covid secure. We can't wait to go back next summer when we return to Lindisfarne.

Lovely cafe but the ordering point and one way system needs reviewing. All customers are entering following the one way system but the staff are walking in and out of both doors ignoring the signs. The ordering point is next to the blackboard but we were told to go outside and look at the menu on our phones online. Only one at a time to order yet everyone then has to squeeze past the lady taking the orders. She was quite rude shouting at us when we went back to find our table number and then had us walking around the entire sites one way system to get back out to the garden. Surely it would be so much easier to take a seat and the lady come and take the order from the table. She put the order through incorrectly, probably because she couldn’t hear us due to me wearing a mask and standing next to the coffee machine. The staff running around outside were doing a great job. Tables and chairs weren’t cleaned between customers. It wouldn’t take much to get these things sorted and it would be excellent.

I get that the locals/staff may resent tourists on the island, but I really don't want to hear quite how much whilst sat eating breakfast at your establishment (snide remarks etc); especially when I've paid good money. To be fair it was only the maitre d', as the other younger staff appeared quite appreciative of the trade. Food so so; two fried eggs on plate, one runny, one hard cooked? Will look elsewhere when we next return. Ate breakfast 20/07/2020

The First Class Cafe, on Lindisfarne is so named because the post office is part of the establishment. It is unassuming on the outside but don't let that put you off. It is an excellent cafe serving delicious cakes, scones and wonderful homemade soup. It's perfectly situated at the end of the round island walk and near the public loos. V friendly service. We'll go there again next time we visit Lindisfarne. Round island walk: not suitable for buggies. beyond the Abbey, on the seaward side, turn left. Walk to the castle. Follow path to Vita Sackville West's garden and continue down towards the sea. Turn left again and walk along to the sand dunes. Here you may get lost! Turn inland and walk across the fields, back to the track turning towards the houses.

This cafe was a great little find for lunch on Lindisfarne. We expected it to be really expensive and average quality but the food was actually great and not over-priced, especially as they have you as a literally 'captive' audience during the part of the day when you can't leave the island because of the tides! Also, the first thing they asked was whether we were leaving before the tide came in so they look after their customers even before you order!!

On a sunny day in July I expected this to be a) full and b) pricey. This was the first stop prior to heading for a walk so had a good look at the menu over a leisurely coffee in their courtyard. At 1230 when I returned the cafe was still relatively quiet so decided on an early lunch and opted for the seafood salad which comprised 2 types of dressed crab, salmon and lobster (my first) with fries, salad and bread which represented excellent value. There is table service and a license to serve alohol. Service was friendly. Given it's location and the time of year (July) I expected the meal to cost twice what it did.

We visited on Monday 8th November. They had stopped doing lunches but drinks and cakes were available. The staff were efficient & pleasant. The scones were flat and dry! The pot of tea was welcome on a bitterly cold afternoon. The cost was just short of £10 for 2 cups of tea and 2 VERY DISAPPOINTING scones. We have had exceptionally good tea and freshly baked scones elsewhere on the island so we will not be back.

We had lunch here, pricey but well worth it. This is my second visit, last year with my husband, this year with my mum. This time I had the home made soup with local ham & mustard roll very tasty. Cakes are homemade & very tasty. The post office/shop attached to the restaurant also sells the Same cakes with a selection of hot/cold snacks. They also sell some very interesting books about the island and the way of life. So recommend eating here, we had no complaints on the filling or portion size

With covered outdoor seating that is perfect for dog owners, this cafe is certainly the best I have visited on Lindisfarne! With a perhaps small menu, but perfect very reasonably priced food, this cafe is a must! The service was very quick considering we had a large order that included delicious sandwiches and scones!

Chatty, lovely staff in the post office introduced us to the lovely young fisherman who caught the crab. We made up our minds to return for food as we’d had such a good laugh with the staff. Oh my days! The crab sandwich was absolute perfection. Everything about 1st class food was excellent , we used the post office, ate and the had their delicious ice cream later in the day . Lovely people, great food . Highly recommend if you’re on Lindisfarne .

Firstly, I just want to apologise for accidentally clicking “Helpful review” that I can’t undo on the 1 star review left on 27 August, I was actually seeing if I could reply to it! They complain about not getting served by a waiter, but there are LITERALLY signs everywhere saying that you order at the till. You give your table number to the till person so if someone is clearing a table nearby it’s likely they would assume you’ve placed your order!

We were staying on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and knew we had a busy day planned, so before going out we bought take-away salads with quiche (sundried tomato and pesto) and crab. They kept well in the fridge and were great after a busy day. I would recommend buying early before they run out!!

Played today, Mon 26th August, Great layout, but sadly the greens are diseased and awful, and the tee boxes are terrible, very expensive bar, and no food being served, even though there was a competition on, and the bar was busy, Sadly one to miss in the future.

We visited Hexham yesterday and found this café in the Market Place, after a lovely River Tyne walk. It was quite busy at 1pm but we didn't have to wait long for our table. The girls made us feel very welcome and worked so hard while we were there clearing tables and getting everyone seated as soon as possible. My husband had a bacon sarnie and I had a ham and mushroom omelette which was so light and fluffy, delicious. Coffees were great too. Plenty of choice on the menu and great prices. Doggy friendly too with a treat for pooch 🐾

What a welcoming, hospitable place. If you ever need cheering up, this is the place to go. We were made welcome immediately, and tony the owner had us in stiches from the start. Everyone there were so friendly, and what had started as an intended short visit, led to us staying to closing. Met some brilliant characters, who all just made our day. Dog friendly too, which was an added bonus to us. Can't recommend enough.
