Lovely Sunday lunch as always. Staff are very friendly and there is always a good atmosphere. We have been here a number of times and the Sunday lunch never disappoints and would highly recommend a visit but make sure you book first. The only reason it didn’t get the full 5 stars was a slightly disappointing bland prawn cocktail starter. That said, the mussels starter was excellent and all of our main courses were perfect with a great selection of veg and the additional side of cauliflower cheese was well worth it - so much so there was no room for dessert!

This was an outstanding stay from the welcome to the finish. The room had a really “country style” luxury feel. Complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and soft drinks made a really lovely touch. There were also high quality “The White Company” complimentaries in the bathroom. Perfectly lit, warm, cosy and quiet. We booked a table for our evening meal. We had some pre-drinks at the bar with an extremely welcoming and friendly barman who chatted and made the experience all the more enjoyable. Staff service in the restaurant was on point; efficient, polite and attentive. The food was exquisite. The best meal I’ve had in years. We both opted for the steak and it came with all the trimmings and triple cooked chips. I couldn’t fault any of it. The steak was done to perfection, and the trimmings (including sweet, succulent tomatoes, a delicious pea shoot and a mix of tasty mushrooms) complimented the meal wonderfully. The desert, a treacle and orange tart with honeycomb was to die for! Breakfast the following morning was full of choice and again, beautifully cooked and presented. We had gorgeous views over the Tyne valley too. The Duke is situated in the middle of a wonderfully sweet Northumbrian village called Newton. Thoroughly worth a stay.

We stayed one night at the Duke of Wellington and were blown away by the care and attentiveness of the staff during our stay. Isla, literally could not have done more if she tried! Helping me with a wardrobe malfunction and then, when our Taxi was delayed, taking us herself to a wedding down the road, where we were for the day. The room itself was absolutely beautiful, the photos online simply don’t do it justice. We had a gorgeous stay. From the white company products in the bathroom to the breakfast in the morning… All was perfect. Thank you again everybody who made our day so enjoyable, especially Isla!

Superb quality food, great location & lovely lovely attentive staff! We went mid week for an 80th in-law birthday.. it was quite so perfect for a family catch-up. We had the traditional prawn cocktail for starter.. gorgeous clean fresh prawns (plenty of them) in a zingy lemony Marie Rose dressing.. would definitely have this again! For main I had nicoise salad with salmon fillet (choice was chicken, salmon or halloumi to accompany) it was stunning!! My husband had the Wagu burger with chips. It was gigantic! There were 5 of us adults and we were all in agreement that the entire experience and all dishes were exceptional!! Highly recommend!

After some searching around the area to find a pub to eat, we found this place was available at the time we wanted. We knew nothing about it previously, but it turned out to be an absolutely cracking find. Pleasant place to eat with a nice view from the rear of the property. The real star of the show was the food. We both had the cheese souffle for starters and they were amazing, this was followed by a crispy garlic chicken and a chicken nicoise salad which were both top notch. The staff were great and the whole experience was well worth the money, definitely a place that we will return to.

Booked in for Sunday lunch today. Very welcoming on arrival and drinks are served very quickly. There’s a good menu choice to suit all tastes. Portions are massive, for example the prawn cocktail starter is big enough for a main course. Everything is freshly prepared, well balanced and plenty of it. Service is attentive and prompt. Considering the food quality and quantity the menu pricing is seriously good value. So, a great pint, top drawer food, nice people and a pleasant venue. This is a bit of a gem!

Stayed for one night, can’t fault it from start to finish. Staff very friendly and welcoming, showed us to our room which was awesome. It was spotlessly clean and very tastefully decorated, comfy bed and hot showers. We were travelling with our dog and this was no problem either, as there’s the bar area where dogs are allowed and the restaurant where they aren’t so you have a choice which is good because not everyone likes dogs around their feet! We ate in the evening, the food was freshly cooked and served with a smile, and the breakfast was excellent. Beautiful location in a quiet village but only a few miles away from Corbridge and just up the road around half an hour away is Newcastle. Views of the Tyne valley are lovely. Thanks for a lovely stay,we are regular visitors to Northumberland and really don’t know how we have missed this place before, we will return. Highly recommended.

We have been regular visitors at The Duke for many years, but had not been for some time, when we decided to go for dinner last Saturday night, 13 April 2024. Not expecting to be able to book a table the day before, we were surprised to find that there were most time slots available. On arrival at 6.30pm, there were a few people in the bar area, but no-one in the restaurant. We were a little concerned about this, but were shown to our table and enjoyed the views over the Tyne Valley while waiting for our food. It took about half an hour, but had obviously been freshly cooked and was piping hot. We both were delighted at our choices: mine was Crispy Garlic Chicken, which I unreservedly recommend, and my son had the Lamb with Dauphinoise potatoes and a selection of vegetables. Neither of us could fault our choices nor the bottle of Rioja to accompany our main courses. By the time we reached the dessert, the restaurant had filled up a bit more, but there were still empty tables. It was when we came to choose our desserts that we had a bit of a shock. All of the desserts, apart from ice cream, were £10 each. We both thought that this was excessive and rather spoilt the meal. We happily pay around £6 or £7 for a dessert in other restaurants, but had to settle for two scoops of ice cream each, at £2 per scoop, as we just didn't think that the choices on offer justified the £10 price tag. Whether this is putting other customers off as well, I don't know. Other than the chap who brought water to our table, but didn't pour it - we were advised that that isn't something they do!!! - the service was attentive but discreet. A few little tweaks could really make a difference here, but do not be put off by them if you want a really tasty main course in lovely surroundings!

I’m quite particular about my Sunday lunch and have an aversion to roast meat that appears to be almost “shaved” in slices. Thankfully this was not the case, my two slices of roast beef were thick slicked, pink and had some fat…..perfect for me, although I’m sure it could be served to your liking, on request. The veg selection was varied, fresh and well presented. The cauliflower cheese, from the extras was tasty too. The lunch service was busy, however the staff remained attentive and friendly. We all agreed it was probably the best Sunday lunch we’d experienced in Northumberland, other than at home of course 😊 It’s was my first visit, but won’t be my last.

We enjoyed a lovely meal at the Duke. The food was excellent and the real ale was well kept. The customer service was great and the covid precautions in place were well thought through and easy to follow. We look forward to our next visit...

We stayed at The Duke of Wellington for three nights, with Doogie the miniature schnauzer. All members of staff were charming, smiley and helpful. We ate delicious food. I especially liked the cheese soufflé, the fish cake, and amazingly good tomatoes in the mozzarella salad....

We visited the cafe on our trip to Vindolanda. Great cafe with nice treats, very good coffee, and service. They have a beautiful terrace and the day we visited it was perfect outside so we were able to sit out and enjoy the weather and the gardens. Beautiful views of the gardens and the sound of a river flowing through. We loved our visit . Thank you for the great service and beautiful location.

Our anniversary fell on a Sunday and we wanted something just a bit more special than a pub lunch. The Jackdaw provided this in spades. Quiet and intimate, and the only other diners in there were locals, which is always a good sign. We ate from the standard Sunday lunch menu which provided plenty of options, including a delicious veggie lasagna. Tasty ales from a local brewery and an excellent, attentive friendly service. We were so impressed we booked for a meal at the end of our one week stay, and the chef came out to discuss what vegetarian options I might like. Best to book in advance, as they don't overfill the small restaurant.

Stopped off at this lovely pub for an ad hoc lunch date. Cosy pub. Warm welcome I had small portion of fish and chips, great value for money. Lovely homemade tartar sauce and fabulous chips. My wife had steak sandwich, apparently steak tender and plentiful. Pudding menu looked great, maybe next time! Thanks folks
