Atmosphere is lovely and service was good. However, food took a long time even for a busy Sunday. When a couple , who had been seated and served 10 minutes after us,got their meal of fish &chips ,we asked about ours. Amazingly, it arrived straight away but husband bisque was cold and my fish finger sandwich just hot enough. Even, when warmed up not hot and by then we just wanted to eat. The place is very welcoming and being local we pop in for a coffee regularly, but won't be eating again any time soon.

Soup was close to pure water and not very flavorful. This place gets crowded, and it can take some time to get served. It's the most convenient place to eat when waiting for a crossing time to Lindisfarne, the Holy Island.

Great views, friendly service and lovely food! Unfortunately the experience was spoiled by the ridiculous system of making customers stand outside in a queue for 15/20 minutes until a member of staff chose to show them to a table. While in the queue, we could not even see the Specials board or menu. I gathered this was to do with a staff shortage, but it simply was not good enough. I have a bad back and find standing for any length of time very painful, and other people find this uncomfortable too. The only polite way to deal with a staff shortage would be to warn people as they arrived that there would be a 20/30/whatever minute wait and then immediately let people sit down if they choose to stay. Please treat your customers with more respect.

Popped in on the way too holy island for a couple of coffees ..this place makes you queue too be seated . After we were seated we ordered 2 coffees , many people came in after us and had been given food and drinks , while 30 min later nothing . We asked 3 members of staff where they were ? They seem too float around , not listening as we had no explanation of where they were . After 35 min we left . I had a brief chat with the manager who blamed me for popping too the loo !! Very odd . Lovely place , but wouldn’t return again

We use to visit quite regularly until it changed management and we have given them 3 chances to settle in but unfortunately this will be our last visit. Staff were very pleasant but the menu was very disappointing. Presentation was poor and the amount of actual fish under the batter was almost none existent certainly won't be back.

We've wanted to have a meal in the restaurant here for a number of years but we've never stayed on the campsite on an opening night until last night. We probably won't be back. Mostly my points are small and picky but they add up to a rather lacklustre experience. Both the food menu and the wine menu are very small and couldn't find a wine we really liked. The carafe of water for the table was a nice touch but it was quite warm, a few ice cubes would have helped. No bread with the starter which had quite a "puddle" of puree which was impossible to eat with a knife and fork. The main course was beautifully cooked but although garlic was mentioned on the menu there wasn't even a hint of it and in general the food was quite tasteless. As two over 60s we rarely eat a starter and a dessert but last night the quantities meant we had dessert in order to feel satisfied. All in all somewhat disappointing.

Very Disappointing and vastly overpriced. My wife and her friend chose the fish finger sandwich and "special chips" from a very limited menu. I decided to have the bacon and beef burger with chips. All three meals were disappointing to say the least. Bread buns heated to refresh them, chips reheated and dry and lettuce that had black decay on the edges. My burger was dry it had no relish and McDonald's could have done better for a fraction of the cost. I complained to the staff who had clearly forgotten their ettiquette, no apology was forthcoming infact one member of staff indicated it might be as a result of it being "late in the day" time was 16:15. I requested the bill which amounted to £54:00 and was advised I had received a 10% discount and no charge for the "special chips" The special chips were no different to my non special chips but all were dry, reheated and very poor. Sorry but you failed on all counts today and we won't be back.

Came here a year ago and liked it., but today the ethos is totally wrong. There is still the same sign up saying they are struggling to get staff so please could we tolerate slow service. It was there last year. The waitresses were nice, but all they did was say "it's really busy" (about half full). Stop with the excuses.I paid £18.50 for a breakfast and coffee (the website menu was a lot cheaper). I don't want a narrative about why you can't provide a service at that price. Toilets 70% out of order. Get a plumber ASAP.

I camped overnight at The Barn at Beal, after cycling from Berwick to Lindisfarne. Nice camp site, very tidy, they allow tents (which is brilliant because so many 'campsites' now no longer do!). £18 for small tent. Breakfast was £12 - good big cup of hot coffee, eggs benedict royale (with smoked salmon). Service very good, staff excellent - definitely recommend campsite and restaurant. I also saw some good food being eaten at the bar the previous evening, so it looks like a nice plance to eat or camp. Also very handy for Lindisfarne. Whole site very neat and tidy, excellent facilities which were spotless and fantastic hot showers.

We have eaten at the Barn at Beal for the last 10 years, often bringing my mum who sadly is now unable to get out. It has had times when it was brilliant and other times poor, very hit and miss. This visit the service and welcome was much better, there was nothing specifically wrong with the food, but is has become expensive and less value for money. £16.50 for fish and chips is the going rate which can be up to £19 but there wasn't much fish in the batter. It wasn't over cooked, which often happens. The cullen skink was good and the staff were better trained and more attentive and friendly than on a previous visit where it was chaotic. It is dog friendly and has wonderful views from the terrace in good weather. Combined with the disastrous pot holes at the car park on Holy Island which meant we could not get in as last time we damaged our car! So we had a really bad visit to Lindesfarne, again a go to place for the last 10 years as we walk our dogs on the beach. Given we couldn't get onto the beach as we couldn't park, we will probably go to another beach in future and give Holy Island a miss.

My family visited this morning for lunch and was very disappointed at the range of offerings for lunch. Not only a bit sparse but what they did have was very expensive. We ordered fish and chips, fish finger sandwich and cheese and gam on toast which were ok but not the best . We have visited on a number of occasions and even on the previous visit we felt that we were bothering the staff , although to be fair they were just about closing but we were by no means the last there. Today’s visit was possibly our last as it confirmed my thoughts that it is now too expensive for local people to enjoy & obviously now for the tourist market.

Stayed overnight with campervan. Site was very clean, well organised and busy yet quiet. Found the staff friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent. Tasty and well presented. We had dinner and breakfast. Not the cheapest but not extortionate either. The quality and service made...

We ate here at lunchtime and took two tables outdoors where the kids could play on the grass. There was a sign up asking for slow service to be excused due to short staffing but we didn’t find the service slow at all - the...

Absolutely beautiful building with amazing views and a fantastic breakfast - would recommend wholeheartedly. Even the toilets were lovely The only negative was nothing to do with the establishment but the other customers leaving their toddlers to run riot and scream over and over

As always the food was amazing and the portions very generous. A lovely warm welcome and Sarah went above and beyond when one of our party decided after our meals were brought out that she would like some bread and butter with her meal. Sarah sorted it out without any fuss.

We stopped by chance at The Percy Arms for a drink and ended up eating an amazing meal-Wednesday afternoon and very quiet but the food was delicious and the service excellent. The soup was very tasty and the steak cooked to perfection - we will return!

I’m so sad to see this lovely place closed. It had great staff and atmosphere and a fantastically good smoked haddock chowder. I wish its people all the best and I thank them for all the great visits we’ve had here. I really hope that there might be a replacement cafe of such quality. We’ll watch with interest.

Our introduction to this country pub was to a spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean bedroom, with stunning views of the fells. Next dinner and cooking of Michelin quality. A highlight was the scallop with belly pork, a brilliant dish. Next morning breakfast, again flawless in every respect from the service to the produce. Any prospective dining pub owner/chef should come here to see how it's done.

My partner & I came here on Sunday for a spot of lunch we both had Fish & Chips ( I had salad with mine instead of chips) I have to say the fish was amazing I would say 100 times better than you would get at a fish shop. The batter was so light & crispy and the fish tasted so good. The staff made us feel so welcome happy smiling faces and we did not have to wait long before our food came I would whole heartily recommend plants plus for lunch
