This is a little gem, an exceptional find. From the initial booking by phone to checking out after a two night stay gets top marks from us. The room was large and airy, the bed was huge and the food was absolutely delicious and home made. The plates were hot too. Our dog and cat were made very welcome as were we. Will definitely return

I just had afternoon tea for two with my husband and it was delicious. A really good selection of sandwiches, savoury pastries and mini desserts with choice of sweet or cheese scones. Service was excellent too. I would highly recommend.

We came in for dinner and ordered two evening meals. One was a main and starter and one a main and desert. My partner ordered lasagna, when it came out it was smothered in cheese and served with a side of crispy (to the point of it being inedible) garlic bread. The main was also 80% oil and 10% bolognese. It was unfortunately inedible so we sent it back. The waiter apologised and said she looked at it and it was unacceptable and would be comped from the bill. She assured us this had been discussed with the chef as it was clearly unacceptable. He then order what I had, however it of course took another 15 minutes, so I ate on my own and then his came out. Then we ordered sticky toffee pudding for dessert, it was fine until we reached the middle where it was freezing cold. They obviously hadn’t heated it for long enough. Again, another apology. When the bill came out, they had taken nothing off. Not even the inedible dessert. There was no discount of any type. Not even a lime & soda taken off of the bill. Overall a really, really disappointing experience. We won’t unfortunately be coming back.

Tasty dishes with decent place.

Sat outside in the sunshine with a beer, on the busy High Street. Only one choice of cask ale and undrinkable!! Staff were nice though.

Lovely place for afternoon tea. The savoury afternoon tea was brilliant, we really enjoyed our afternoon here!

Just had a lovely family meal, the service was very good and all the food was top notch. The price was excellent for what we received. The atmosphere was very friendly and bustling. We will definitely be back.

Enjoyable meal but slightly disappointed with our choice of dessert as this should have been warm. Staff was very attentive and friendly . Hotel exterior is in need of renovation so it looks more presentable.

This is a nice place to have a drink and there is a friendly atmosphere The food I had on this day was average at best. Nothing bad, just average tasting food. The burger looked good, but had little flavour and was a little dry.

We thought we would try the county for a change Started with smoked salmon fish cake Mediocre and a distinct lack of fish Followed by fish n chips Chips were good Batter on the fish was soggy and limp The fish had a faint smell And I had bad guts all night Won’t be going back plenty of other places for decent food in hexham

Both waitresses we had, Ellie and Jessica were fantastic. We went all three nights we stayed at the hotel and each night had a different great meal.

Went for valentine's day dinner, the restaurant was lovely The atmosphere was great, it wasn't too crowded and I could actually have a conversation with my partner without shouting over other people. And the food was stunning I couldn't recommend this restaurant more x

Food was amazing! Definitely recommend the Korean chicken as a starter, had a kick but so much flavour. Portion sizes were great and staff all seemed friendly and attentive. Would definitely return. We used our Buyagift voucher and it was easy to book and use. I’m very happy we picked this restaurant, would be happy to come back again!

Had a lovely afternoon tea with colleagues. Savory and traditional were the main orders but we did order gluten free Celica and vegan too. Good and enough portions were served as per the menu. A variety of tea options were offered. Highly recommended for a quick and quiet afternoon tea.

Excellent food, good service, reasonable prices

Christmas lunch, buffet style. A little disappointing. Spam and crab sticks in with the starters?? The main course was like warm. Puddings delicious. The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful.

Visited with a colleague. Nice surroundings. I found the service was good. Waitresses were very attentive. Food was disappointing. I had hunters chicken which was tasty but the portion size was tiny. Food looked lost on the plate. One small chicken breast that had been butterflied. Small single layer of skin on fries. Colleague had Korean chicken. Which looked good but again we felt the portion size was on the small side. Would not avoid but would not rush back given what else is available in Hexham.

Enjoyed a family dinner here one evening. The restaurant was quiet but the hotel had a number of functions on. We were warned that the food might be slow to come out due to the functions but we didn't notice any obvious delay. Due to the layout of the restaurant it had a private dining vibe although the staff were really attentive and we had no issues with service. The food was excellent and very well presented. The menu is varied with options of wood pigeon, soup and carpaccio to start which we all really enjoyed. I was very pleased with my seabass main which was surprisingly meaty. Overall a nice meal and evening out, worth a try even if it doesn't seem like the most obvious choice!

Afternoon tea was amazing for nans Birthday. Staff were amazing and attentive and Jake helped sort out the bill! Lovely will return and recommend! Lovely decor and atmosphere! We also had a lot of dietary requirements which they filled and was very helpful with! Thank you !

Came today and had a wonderful afternoon tea with my Mum & Nan. I cannot speak highly enough of the amazing staff- so friendly, accommodating and kind. They truly made it. The food was delicious too. Cannot wait to come back! ☺️

Great time here for afternoon tea. Staff were accommodating to our particular eaters and assisted my with little sandwiches and milk for my young boy along with a colouring in pack - food was amazing! Love the cream cheese and mint sandwiches!!

We arrived and sat at a table fit 4 that had just been vacated. The waitress came in and remarked “you had to sit at a dirty table”. ( There were other tables) but that one was well in the restaurant out of the way of any draughts as the doors were open and it wasn’t a particularly warm day. She cleared the table and took our drinks order and said she would come back for our food order. On her return she promptly asked us to move to a smaller table as there was only two of us and the place was about to get very busy. She moved us to another table set for 4 but between 2 other occupied tables. The rest of the room was empty.When we finished our meal the original table we had sat at was still empty and only two other tables had been filled by a party who were together. No need to move us in the first place!!The food could only be described as okay Won’t be going back

The Wednesday Staff were incredibly welcoming, so much so we returned for a second night!Although we were missed on occasion on our second night (because it was busy) we enjoyed another great meal! The food is fantastic, great portion size, colourful and tasty side salad. Well worth a visit and staying for dessert.

Disappointing family Sunday lunch. We were seated next to a large, noisy group despite the place being empty. Service was very slow, the food took ages to come out and the roast beef was grey it had been cooked for so long. Desserts were good, so maybe go just for that.

While on a day out. My partner and me were looking for somewhere to eat. After looking at a few menus elsewhere and not being enticed. The County offered a menu with something we both fancied. The brisket and red wine pie. Which our waiter recommended. Was really tasty and filling. My partner also likes ‘Rose lemonade’ and they had it stocked here. Good food combined with friendly service. Made our experience here a good one.

My group of 24 people ate at this restaurant twice, once on an ad hoc basis and once with a private room. The staff were excellent and friendly. The food was basic but good, definitely not haute cuisine.

We called in the other afternoon as we were passing by , the outside looked so attractive and welcoming .We immediately loved the interior and the very friendly welcome. We got when we stepped through the revolving door . Asked what I would like to drink , I said gin , young lady said best to step around the other side of the bar . We did to an array of gin,s I settled on Hadrian’s wall gin , { I understand this gin has only been available since June }which I had had before and it was delicious . We found a seat our drinks were brought over two us .We ordered a sharing platter , of Cajun chicken goujons Chicken liver pate and little round toasts , bowl of garlic mushrooms and a big fish cake and two bread buns and butter . A massive starter I believe it was £12.99 , it was fantastic tasting , fantastic price and very filling , but we had all ready ordered a Moufen pie , (Mediterranean lamb , peas and lovely spices, home made pie ) mashed potatoes and vegetables and a jus gravy . I think £10.99 , don’t quote me , lol , (it was so good we went back two days later and I had the same pie )We then very greedily followed that with Bailey,s and bake well tart ice cream , and yes it did taste as described , fab Hats off to Fiona and team , it’s one of the friendliest and nicest Staff of a restaurant I have been in for a long time , ( and we eat out 5 days out of 7 )nothing was too much trouble , the staff actually did seam to care , they were very attentive , and informative and Fiona the owner was great , she came over to see if we had everything we needed , she mucked it fetching and serving , all round great team , with fantastic food at great prices , with different special,s . I believe Thursday night is steak night , 2 steaks and bottle of wine £25.00 If in the area you must go and say hi ,

Ate here a few times, usually very good, however visited this evening and was the worst meal we've had in a long time. The homemade pie wasn't very homemade just a frozen pastry lid on top of chicken and tarragon which in its self wasn't very tasty. The mashed potato was reheated in the microwave which had made it go a grey/black colour, the vegetables on the side were so salty and greasy it made them inedible. Waiter never asked if everything was ok, so said nothing and paid, were going to have dessert but was put off. Won't be back!! Very disappointed

We ate here at lunchtime, attracted by the cheap lunchtime menu. We often find that at lunchtime in particular, portions can be too large leading to over-eating, so it was nice to see a range of smaller portion meals that filled a gap without making us feel too full. It was comfortable seating, the staff were friendly snd helpful and we will certianly visit again.

Lovely venue for a casual lunch.We were offered table service for drinks as we arrived.Sat just inside the main door which was perfect as it was very warm.Ordered carbonara from the special board.My Mum in law asked if they would do the carbonara with prawns which they happily did with a small extra charge.Service was pleasant and timely.Reasonably priced.There was an extensive hearty menu but as we were shopping the carbonara with spaghetti was more than adequate.Well recommended.

We called in for lunch. I had creamy tomato and spinach tagliatelle (£5.55) and my husband had the gammon (£5.55). Both from the lunch time menu where prices start from £4.95. My pasta was delicious and a very generous portion. The staff were polite and friendly and we got served fairly quickly. Well recommended.

Stayed here for 2 nights and ate in the restaurant for the first night. Fabulous food well presented and extremely tasty. We also had breakfast and this has to be one of the best breakfasts I have had in a hotel. Well done The County

Staying in Hexham for the week popped down to check out Monday night veggie night. Firstly thank you for doing that. Had been finding choices a bit limited and a whole menu to choice from was a great. With 2 courses for £10 wasn't expecting much but it was great. Especially the falafel. Husband had choices off main menu which were also good. Best chips for far in the holiday :) Friendly staff and nice interior.

Lovely food and excellent service. Can't wait to return for one of the event nights.

Food: I only had a Ceasar salad, but it was nothing special. The chicken was dry and the salad was too heavy on the dressing. Service: The bartender was very friendly and accommodating, but the food (two salads) took almost 30 minutes to arrive when we were the only guests. Locale: Cute hotel with outdoor seating.

We popped in for a drink and were met by great decor, helpful staff and stayed for the Northumberland platter - Which was spot. Really worth trying

Called in here with friends and greeted by very friendly staff drinks and food order taken at the table and very fast service considering it was very busy. I do recommend the lasagna and salad, outstanding service from staff.

myself and my husband called in here and had a meal from their lunch special menu and both meals were excellent.I had lasagne and my husband had the special which was cod new potatoes and vegetables with a lovely sauce.He had a coffee and i had orange juice and all for under £15.The staff were very good and the toilets were immaculate.We are planning a trip back next week as it was that good.Well done to all the staff you are doing a great job.

We decided to have a meal here . When we went in the staff mentioned that from 5pm they also had a menu , 2 courses for £12 or 3 for £14 . We opted for the two for £12 . One had a pie , one chicken stuffed with cream cheese wrapped in ham and a tagliatelle. The food was very good , very well presented and tasty . The staff were very friendly and gave fantastic service . It was a very good experience in all respects . When I visit Hexham again I would defiantly be eating here again.

The county itself is lovely decorated, I went to the bar to order, I asked for the steak and ale pie special (wasn’t asked if I wanted potatoes or chips and the menu didn’t say) I also ordered a pint of lemonade and lime, the barmaid/waitress got a glass I again asked for a pint and she advised the must serve lemonade in one of these glasses? I asked why and she replied that’s what the managers told them? Very odd) My food came quickly and looked nice it came with vegetables and mash, the vegetables were very greasy/oily and inedible and the mash was like dried powdered mash and was very salty again I barely ate them, the pie however was nice. Had I been asked during my meal I would have told them but I was only asked at the end and I did tell them it wasn’t great. I then ordered a chocolate and peanut butter desert, or came in glass looked nice but the chocolate part was so hard I bent the spoon trying to eat it. The girl that served me walked away when I went to pat the bill. And a young man gave me the bill at the bar, I paid in full with no apologies. I will not return, very disappointed

We were booked in the restaurant for an 18th Birthday meal for 27 people , Alistair worked very hard serving our meals as well as doing other jobs, the food was good too . I would definitely recommend the county for food and service !!

We visited the place and asked if they can cater for a vegan, the waiter told us that one of the chefs special was pulled pork style BBQ jackfruit. Which the reason we decided to have our meal there.

We visited here for Sunday lunch a couple of weeks ago, on arrival we got a couple of drinks and found a table in the restaurant. Having looked over the menu the waitress came over to take our order the missus opted for the lamb and I went for the trio of meats and we both decided to get pigs in blankets which are an extra, the waitress returned a few moments later and informed us they were out of pigs in blankets that’s fine no big deal, But then she returned a few minutes later again to inform us they only had one portion of lamb left so on my trio would I like beef instead? Yeah I love beef so fine by me!. But here’s where things go downhill the waitress started to walk away but stopped and said oh by the way it will be an extra £1 for the beef as it’s more expensive than the lamb!! I questioned her because I thought I was imagining it but she stood firm. I was gobsmacked it’s only an extra £1 but I believe and many friends I have spoke to also feel that it’s bad service! So we cancelled our entire order I went to the bar to pay for the drinks we had half consumed and was served by the manager who asked what the problem was and why we were leaving, she said don’t worry she will sort it but by then I was very disappointed and certainly wouldn’t rush back!!

Food was nice. Service was just poor. They tried but it was like everyone had just started and didn’t have a clue.

We arrived at 2 for Sunday lunch having booked a table for 7. It was really busy and took half an hour before our orders were taken. Things had quitened by then and we thought food would arrive quickly. An hour later other tables had been served and we still had no starters. We pointed this out and were told our orders had been lost. So we re-ordered (no time now for starters) and food eventually arrived. Staff were apologetic and waived the entire cost of our meal and drinks. But by then we had missed the cinema show we had planned and had wasted most of the last afternoon of my family’s visit to hexham. A real shame as the food itself was good and large portions.

This is one of the best places we have ever been staff are so friendly menu was great &the; Food was delicious cooked exactly right would recommend this place to anyone keep even the surroundings inside spotless &so; homely brilliant

checked for gluten free eateries on the way back from Newcastle. The Hexham fish bar came up but when we went in was only once a month. so walked across the road to the County. Asked the barman if they did gluten free and he said everything on the menu was marked. When we sat down he told us about the sml eats menu which we were pleased he did as there was ample to eat. My gluten free husband had the gammon,eggs and chips I had the pasta with cream sauce and extra chicken. with two soft drinks came to just over £18. The staff were all friendly and helpful, the food was good and the decor was lovely will go again if in Hexham

I like this place. The food is really good and the staff are friendly and helpful. When I visited it was busy and the atmosphere was upbeat and fun. I’d recommend The County to anyone.

My husband and I and Two friends visited in between Christmas and new year and found it a lovely clean and well set out comfortable restaurant and bar. We had a very tasty meal which we all enjoyed the chips were homemade Three of us had the zebra burger and One had the steak. My fiend and I had the hot spiced cider and it warmed us up and was a very nice change. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The barman who I believe was called Johny was lovely and helped us with our order.

We visited the restaurant for evening meal.Menu choice was excellent,plenty to choose from.Lots of specials,steaks,etc.We chose the 3 course,for £14.Food was extremely good,waitress was very pleasant.Starters,we had homemade soup,good,then garlic mushrooms.Gammon with pineapple,very nice.Hunters chicken.Eton mess,cheesecake for pudding.Very busy night,good food,good house wine.Would definitely return.

The food at The County Hotel is great (I had the pan fried salmon with mashed potato which was excellent) but there was absolutely no atmosphere on both occasions I have dined there recently. (Maybe it gets busier later in the evening though).

Very nice restaurant and bar, good lively atmosphere. Wide choice on menu with good quality meals, freshly prepared and well presented. Good choice of beers. Staff are very welcoming and friendly, just nice.

I took my wife and 2 sons here for an evening meal prior to my oldest heading off to Uni.

Ahead of a long day on Hadrians wall we had a great basic pub meal in the county hotel. The food was served quickly, the service was prompt and professional and the prices were low!

Went for a business meeting with a large group of others. All food ordered was excellent and very large portions. Everyone said how good the meals were and my seabass was really tasty. Everyone was really happy with the taste, quality and service. (The fish and chips was probably the biggest I Have ever seen in restaurant and I'll get this next time!)

Met up with former neighbours for lunch and walk. Lunch in the County was very nice .The portion of fish and chips just right for lunchtime.Service excellent and friendly

Nicely refurbished restaurant, excellent menu and wonderful food. The only problem was that on a Sunday lunchtime, with only 50% occupancy the food service was so slow. We were first to arrive at 12 noon and finally paid the bill at 14:30 which even for a 3 course lunch was glacial in pace. Our frustration was mentioned a couple of times to staff but they just blamed the kitchens .

Have been to The County on a few occasions now and have found the staff very helpful and friendly. The food is of a lovely standard too.

This is our 'go to' place to eat when I visit my elderly mum. We've tried others and always return to The County.

Went twice with our dog whilst on holiday. Both times we received friendly efficient service. First time we had Sunday lunch which was the best I have had in a long time. Plenty of tender meat, first class yorkshire pud and veg cooked perfectly . The second time we had a thai curry and mixed board of indian starters. Again this was excellent, good heat in the curry and all round tasty. Good value for money in lovely surroundings. Warm welcome, bowl of water and treats for the dog too.

Visited Hexham in June 2015. The pub we were going to go to for lunch was closed for renovations so we scouted around looking for an alternative. We came across the County Hotel on the main high street and were glad we did. The food and drink was quick and reasonably priced and the staff were very polite. Highly recommended.

Visited yesterday for lunch (Friday) for the first time since renovation, I am sorry to say i will not return. The surroundings were nice but the service was very slow. My lunch was penne Alfredo which was a bowl of pasta with a little sauce of cream and garlic with a slice of hard cold garlic bread on top. I like garlic but the level of garlic in the runny cream sauce was way too much--- I think the chef and kitchen staff would find it challenging to eat this perhaps they should try --- please taste food before serving. I had to find a waitress and ask for some Parmesan as none was offered to eat some of this but would definitely not recommend it.

Looked around for supper one evening whilst staying in the area and found he well appointed County Hotel. Cuisine is typical pub food served with some flair in a comfortable dining room. Good value and friendly service. Food served in an attractive way great service.

Called at this restaurant in Hexham. We'd been to Blanchland and were hoping to have a nice meal at the Lord Crewe at Blanchland. The only table they could offer us was outside and the menu was very limited. We found the County hotel at Hexham instead. The menu had lots to choose from plus a few specials from the chef. We started with black pudding topped with bacon and egg and stuffed mushrooms with gruyere cheese. Both were very nice. For mains we had belly pork with black pudding mash and veg and chicken topped with bacon and cheese in a bun with homemade chips and salad. Chips were delicious (some of the best I've tasted) and the chicken burger was yummy. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal. It was a nice atmosphere and staff were nice and friendly. Will definitely make it a first choice venue in the future.

We were welcomed by friendly staff and offered a choice of seating areas. The menu choices for Sunday Lunch were ideal, and we enjoyed an excellent meal, and were served by very pleasant staff. We will definately return here again

Visited here for a meal for a friends birthday and was welcomed nicely by the staff. Food was amazing and well priced and overall really enjoyed ourselves.

No eran en conjunto seguro en primer lugar, porque algunas partes de Hexham sugirió que la ciudad había visto días mejores, pero fuimos. Nos sorprendió gratamente la decoración interior y la limpieza fue totalmente en consonancia con la decoración de exteriores maquillado y coloridas cestas colgantes. Estaba bastante concurrida, y inesperadamente grandes y muy fácil de encontrar asientos en un lado de la zona de bar.

Mi esposa y yo visitamos en el 4 de julio para una tarde de lujo. No nos decepcionó l tenía la pez grande mientras mi esposa tenía la pequeña comida sobresaliente. Tanto las comidas eran muy buenas y el servicio que nos dieron fue excelente. No dudamos en hacer una nueva visita.

Beautiful pub but sadly food doesn't match surroundings, we ate in the restaurant today with family and friends and were looking forward to our Sunday roast with seasonal vegetables, sadly it arrived with 2 slightly shrivelled slices of lamb with 2 tiny roast potatoes hidden under the meat a rather limp yorkshire pudding and a few green beans and asparagus and mashed potatoes, I asked the waiter if there was extra vegetables coming as our plates looked somewhat bare, he asked what I was expecting and I said carrots or something like that to which he replied "carrots are out of season!" I could not believe this in July!! He asked what we wanted and we said a little more veg would be lovely and were brought extra roast potatoes and asparagus, green beans and peas and then charged £4 for them when billed at the end.

El primer plato era absolutamente fantástico goujon con un buen chapuzón y ensalada encantador. Hizo El pescado y las patatas fritas eran francamente el mejor que he probado y en cuanto a la pera cayera especiado ¡guau! El personal era educado y nada era demasiada molestia y el precio era muy razonable. No dudaría en recomendar ☺ ️

My husband and i stayed over night at The County Hotel. Our room was very comfortable and had every thing we needed. Breakfast was delicious and we look forward to returning soon. Mr and Mrs Howells

Fantastic service, unfortunately I didn't get the ladies name but she was brilliant. Superb food and a lovely way to celebrate with my dad and my wife n kids.

Buscando un lugar para almorzar los domingos, llamamos en el condado en hexham. Estaban muy ocupados con un grupo grande, pero pudimos conseguir una mesa en la zona de bar. Decoración muy agradable, muy amplia. El personal era atento, sin ser por encima de su hombro y muy informativo sobre el menú. Dio la impresión de nada hubiera sido un problema. Elegimos el almuerzo de domingo 3 carne con una guarnición de queso coliflor.

Good service, very quiet, good food

Admito que escribo una crítica mordaz del condado previamente, pero crédito donde es debido y el condado ha aumentado su juego, sin duda tenía comida aquí con amigos y nos quedamos impresionados, la comida era excelente, el servicio era perfecto, algunos vinos para acompañar la comida agradable también. Una chica particular, no su nombre pero ella era un poco más viejo que algunos de los empleados, posiblemente 30, ella era una gran ventaja para ellos, espero que aprecian su. En general, una enorme mejora y volveremos.

El Condado es un cálido y acogedor pub, sirve deliciosa comida con un servicio de primera clase. Comimos aquí sobre una base regular y toda la familia me encanta. Hay una amplia variedad de platos, incluyendo un menú de almuerzo que sirve porciones más pequeñas de algunos de los platos principales, como el pescado y patatas fritas y sobresaliente. No sé por qué más lugares no hacer esto - no a menudo quieren una gran comida a la hora del almuerzo, así que es perfecto. Aún se puede pedir del menú principal también, así que para todo el mundo. La comida es realmente precioso, y ahora hacer un delicioso desayuno/almuerzo. Es un lugar muy agradable con un ambiente encantador y son muy niños. A good selection of Cask Ales. Service was pleasant. No complaints at all. Food looked well presented although didnt choose to eat of this occasion.

Stopped here on business numerous times. The rooms are the best in the area. The staff very friendly. Food excellent. Good WiFi. The bar area has a nice laid back atmosphere. Would recommend for business or pleasure.

El Condado es nuestro favorito pub en Hexham. La cerveza está bien servido, especialmente la Perroni, y la selección de vinos es siempre bueno. Que entrara a una copa al menos una vez a la semana.

Samphire at The County Hotel is a great find! Couldn't fault the service (waitress very friendly), food excellent, décor and ambience very relaxing, but there was not much atmosphere on the Friday evening when we went (only a few other guests dining). Highly recommend.
