We were staying in Bellingham for 4 nights and came to this pub a couple of times, once just for drinks, it was cosy atmosphere next to a lovely open fire. We had Sunday lunch the next day, which I have to say was amazing, we had a pork loin dinner and roast beef. Definitely recommend. Staff were welcoming, very doggy friendly. Only negative is that we had no room left to try a dessert!!

I am writing to express my disappointment regarding the meal we received during our visit at 6pm on the 26/09/2024 .We had booked this meal for a special occasion – a birthday celebration for someone I support who has special needs – and unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. We ordered two Carne pizzas at £13.50 each, expecting freshly prepared, high-quality meals given the occasion and the price. However, what we received were pizzas that were clearly shop-bought, identical to those sold across the road at the Co-op for £3.95 , see picture provided . This felt particularly unacceptable given the significant markup we were charged. We understand that times are challenging for businesses in the hospitality industry, but serving pre-packaged, supermarket-bought meals at a high price, especially during a special celebration, is both misleading and disappointing. I normally avoid complaints, but I cannot ignore the poor quality of the food served, especially considering how important this occasion was. I trust that you will take this feedback seriously and address the situation to ensure that future customers do not have a similar experience. I would appreciate a response from your team on the number provided at the point of booking , as well as an explanation or refund, considering the substandard meal and the circumstances surrounding this event.

Giving it 1 star as it's the minimum. If I could give it 0 stars I would. Had booked by phone. Barmaid said we'd no booking and said 1hour standing wait for table. People without booking came in got sat before us. Barmaid couldn't care less. We ended up going somewhere else for food after waiting over 1hour.

Lovely family meal with such friendly staff. We came when on holiday. The food was such good value and quality. When we looked at the prices we didn't think we were going to get amazing food. Thought the food was excellent ; stonebaked pizzas, delicious, halloumi Burger and lovely crispy chips. Can't recommend highly enough. If you do go to the pub, there's a lovely little gift shop next door, Olive and Myrtle, selling beautiful crafts, jewelry and fair trade trinkets at a good price. The owner was very friendly with children in the shop buying some holiday memories.

Called in for lunch when looking for a dog friendly pub on the way home to Cheshire from Northumbria. Husband ordered the special two courses for £15, expecting fairly basic dishes. Instead he got a full roast pork dinner and generous sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. Best value meal in a long time. Lovely food. Very dog friendly with treats and water for the dogs. Really hit the spot for us.

A large party of about 16 people dined at The Cheviot last night after the conclusion of the Montane Summer Spine Race which passes through Bellingham. On arrival, our table was ready and we were quickly attended to. The head waitress was warm and friendly and did everything to ensure she had our order correct. The food arrived quickly and there were zero complaints - just what we all wanted after a really busy week. Thank you so much for accommodating us - same time next year!

First thing to say is the food was very good when it finally arrived. Therein lies the low score. Ww arrived at 1830 having booked. Waited about ten minutes to be seated. The restaurant was almost full and one waitress doing everything. We waited a further ten minutes when she came for the drinks order, no idea which red wines were available by the glass. Another ten minutes and the drinks arrived. She then arrived to take the food order. The food finally arrived ONE HOUR after we arrived. The pub was staffed by two females, I've no idea how many kitchen staff there were. The woman in the bar wasn't able to cope with the bar customers and the restaurant orders so there was always a queue. The poor girl in the restaurant was running around getting drinks, serving, clearing and sorting the bills. She did the best she could. A large party arrived shortly before we left and had to have their red wine in champagne flutes....a joke. The pub was very badly organised regarding staff on a busy Saturday night over a Bank Holiday weekend. I'm not sure I'd go again. A shame because of poor management.

Arrived before 6pm for dinner, but had not booked. Took 5 mins to get any attention at the bar to be told we needed to go to the restaurant for food. Waitress came fairly quickly & took the order for food & drinks. It was then over 1 hour before food arrived. Ordered steak & ale pie which was very hit but nothing special & allegedly the reason it took so long to arrive. Couldn’t wait to get out & get back for coffee & biscuits, didn’t want to wait another hour for dessert. Food was expensive for what it was. Waitress was on her own & very busy doing her best with no help. Will never go back.

Written two years ago: Simply the best carvery we have ever been to, anywhere. Huge portions, red hot food, brilliant friendly service from everyone there, simply can't be beaten. I'm writing this review actually in the hotel, having just finished my meal, and already looking forward to coming back next Sunday :-) Update: April 14th 2024 We called in again today for our now traditional-when-visiting-Kielder carvery lunch, only to find the carvery is no longer being served, it's just plated meals now. Disappointing obviously, but we thought we'd stay because the food has always been so good in the past. Unfortunately there are new owners now, with a new cook, and our Sunday Roast beefs were very average indeed: two small slices of tasteless dry beef, watery gravy, a hard Yorkshire pudding, and no condiments served with the food, we had to ask for everything. Very disappointing after all our previous visits when everything was cooked perfectly. The man dining opposite us left half of his, so he wasn't impressed either. Maybe it's just teething troubles, but it's put us off going next time we're here in October.

After driving to Bellingham we decided to have lunch in the cheviot. Unfortunately a note on the door read. Restaurant closed. We were disappointed. As we needed a loo stop anyway decided to have a coffee. Sadly the worst coffee ever. Just tasted like hot milk. Latte and cappuccino. But no taste if coffee. Suggestion change the brand. I drank mine quickly as was barely warm but partner left his. Such a shame after an hour drive out.

Stayed in the lovely Bellingham beginning of September & we were recommended to eat here by a local. Absolutely spot on & so pleased we went. Food was exceptional & not like your average pub meal (you know the type, frozen chips & average food). Fresh quality ingredients. Not the cheapest but definitely worth paying the extra. We got fish n chips (should be whale!) lamb shank (amazing) fajitas (daughter said best ever) & fried salmon in prawn sauce - excellent. Serve food from 5.30pm but definitely worth the wait & the price.

Horrible! Bar staff looked at me like I was scum and food was rank, far too expensive, and came with a side order of attitude I was tempted to knock into next week! Shame really, because when we visited last year it was good, but maybe that was because the staff were being watched by the older couple i assume are the owners? Perhaps hire some friendlier staff? We had this place recommended by the owners of a nearby B&B. I will definitely be advising they stop recommending because it doesn't deserve the custom. AVOID!

Our only evening pub meal whilst on holiday in Northumberland was a huge disappointment. Ordered steak and ale pie with boiled potatoes but a lot of the steak was gristle and the potatoes were microwaved (not boiled) and were dry, the peas had also been microwaved - presumably without water - and had dried out. The menu sounded great but it was a case of style over substance. Dessert, along with the service was great. However my main, Venison sausage, was supposed to be "cassoulet" but it wasn't. It was a gruel more akin to what would be served in a Dickens novel, thin and watery. Served with a chunk of part baked bread. Called in today for a drink and meal with my husband, the pub has new owners, place has been decorated plus a new menu, food was amazing we had the steak pie and fish and chips, food was well presented and piping hot, gluten free well catered for, staff knowledgable and very friendly, so glad it has reopened. Would highly recommend!

Sorry to be negative but both my wife and I found the haddock and chips very greasy. Couldn't finish them.

A decent chain of restaurant/ pub. Nice Sunday lunches ( although my meats were warm rather than hot) I'll happily return
