On holiday ,thought we'd visit turned up about 5pm to see didn't open until 6pm so decided to go away and come back . Checked web to verify times . When we arrived back at say 6.30on just to be told they weren't doing meals and may not be doing them again this season . May have them Saturday only evening and to phone to check. They need to be more upfront as to What they are doing and to change their advert and boards outside their premises bad show I think.

This is a real Northumberland village pub serving excellent food and beer. Opening at 6pm for dinner service it’s well worth a visit. The food is good honest fare with vegetables from their own allotment. Best fish and chips with batter so light it melted in the mouth. A varied menu is offered with a number of different options.lovely beer with a tasting option, very accommodating. The toilet area is immaculate , always a sign that the landlord is conscientious. Highly recommended for an evening meal. Ring to book and check opening times.

This was the first Sunday lunch since lockdown. The publican and chef have not been idle. They have cultivated an acre of land over the road and now all the pub veg comes from their super-allotment. Zero carbon miiles and super fresh. You can taste the difference. Ther wine menu has improved too. Judging from how busy they are - I would recommend booking. Just passing through, they've still got great local beer.

If you are in Horncliffe, this is your only choice for eating out. I ate here on a Wednesday evening. The chicken breast in bacon was fine, served by a friendly chap from the kitchen. The downside was the bar maid. I really felt I was doing her a huge favour in bringing my custom to the Fishers Arms. When I enquired about food, I was told there would be a long wait - the heavy hint was that she would much prefer that I didn't order anything. I persisted and ordered a glass of red wine. It was handed to me with the statement "I do long for the days when pubs didn't serve food". Perhaps it had passed her by that in country areas such pubs have long since closed down? As I say, good food but awful service from the bar.

Popped in for dinner on Friday evening. All seemed ok until we ordered a “well done” sirloin steak! At that point the barman informed us that the “chef” was going to go mad! On receiving the order the “chef” did exactly that! “Chef” came into the bar huffing & puffing & shaking her head. Some later discussion overheard about destroying premium meats by over cooking etc.. Perhaps they need to brush up on their hospitality skills! You may be the only pub in the village, however.. Berwick Upon Tweed is a very short drive away, where there are plenty of establishments more than happy to cook steak to the customers liking without the ridiculous drama.

Just returned from dinner at the above small but excellent local pub. Really enjoyed our meal of : Fish and Chips (with lovely minted mushy peas), tasty Fish Pie with vegetables and Chicken Casserole with Leeks, Bacon with a hint of tarragon served with Chips and Vegetables - followed by Red Berry Cheesecake and light but flavoursome Lemon Posset with Blueberries and a buttery Shortbread - all washed down with a very good Pinot Grigio. Although you have to wait for your meal - the food being prepared fresh by the lady chef - it is very much worth the wait ! Have been advised of "themed evenings" and if they are as good as the "normal evenings" then we locals (and visitors) are in for a treat. We shall definitely be back !! and would highly recommend to all.

We ate in the Fishers Arms for the first time on a recent visit to the Berwick Upon Tweed area. The landlord was warm with his welcome and looked after us throughout our visit. The menu is excellent with a few specials. I had a curry and it was very good. The desserts options were gold star for such a small pub. I had home made rice pudding to die for. Prices for food and drink were very favourable. I would recommend a visit if you are in the area.

This is a quaint, if small, village pub with a big, friendly welcome. We started with Shiraz, and a pint of I.P.A. as an aperatif, which were very acceptable. For lunch, we chose scampi with chips, salad, and mayonaisse dressing. Boss lady declared this delicious, as she had the preceding cream of mushroom soup with chunky bread. My choice was steak and mushroom pie with potato mash and mixed fresh vegetables with lashings of gravy. This was superb. We both opted for the pensioners portions, although less than the standard, portions were very generous and more than sufficient. My choice concluded with rice pudding with jam. This old fashioned delight just as I remembered as a child, and just as yummy. Our 2 meals (2 courses), were priced at £7.95 each, representing great value for money. Our young grandson opted for the beef lasagne with chips, salad, etc, followed with chocolate brownie with custard. This A LA carte and so slightly more expensive, but with larger portion. All in all, this went down very well with all concerned. Good food at a reasonable price. Wholesome and satisfying. Mine host was very convivial and accommodating. It was also nice to chat briefly to the chef. A good lunchtime, and we are sure to return in the near future. Would recommend without hesitation. A pub with character and charm and well worth a visit.

This is a proper old-fashioned English (just) pub in the little village of Horncliffe not far from Berwick-upon-Tweed. We were staying nearby and called in for a meal on our last night. It is warm and friendly, generally full of locals but very welcoming to visitors. There was a choice of 3 real ales, all deemed acceptable, and the menu was fairly standard pub fare. However, it was all freshly cooked and delicious. I had the fish pie, which was full of different sorts of fish and topped with little chunks of potato and cheese and served with 4 different fresh vegetables. It was very tasty and extremely filling. I couldn't manage it all but it was cleaned up by the other half who also found it delicious. He had a pork casserole with chips and vegetables which he loved. We were talked into a pudding and I had a beautiful lemon posset with blueberries and the lightest little shortbread I have ever tasted. All this at prices we are not used to (ie cheaper than at home) We had an excellent evening and left full of good food and drink. This is what a pub should be like, not an uber-trendy gastropub with over-priced drinks and tricksy menus. Or perhaps we are just showing our age!

From the warm greeting on arrival at this lovely tradtional country pub to leaving we cannot recommend it enough. The food we had was superb and reasonably priced. We both went for fish which was locally caught for once, none of your frozen icelandic fish that you get in most places. At under £10 very reasonably priced. Some of the gastro pubs we walked out of were charging £15 for a smaller helping than we got ! Came with the offer of the most fantastic minted mussy peas. As a southerner normally a bit suspicious of these but they were just amazing. A nice selection of local beers and a landlord who went the extra mile. All the locals we met were very friendly and welcoming with some great local tips for walks. In short it stood out at as head and shoulders above the other pubs we visited in Northumberland. We have no hesitation in strongly recommending it as pubs like this are becoming increasingly rare. PS card machine awaited so take cash for the time being

Hubby and I had a yummy dinner here tonight. We had the fish and chips. The fish was very fresh and the mushy peas had real mint which along with the hand cut chips completed the meal. I didn't like my dessert only because I was expecting 'American' style cheesecake (I'm Canadian) and the owner/server noticed me not eating it. He VERY KINDLY brought me the Lemon Poussant dessert which was divine!! This was above and beyond service and most appreciated. My husband's sticky toffee pudding was delicious!

The Fisher's Arms has a Savoy trained chef and the food is stunning. Pudding especially. The cheescake is peerless. The wine less so, I gather they're working on their cellar. Of course TripAdvisor then wouldn't let me post a "real" review within a month. So here is my review: We visited several times at end of September/beginning of October - we were staying at West Ord so a lovely walk along the banks of the Tweed led to Horncliffe and The Fishers Arms - just down the road from The Honey Farm. We visit Berwick from Leeds occasionally to visit the above mentioned gentleman. We used to favour The Plough Inn in West Allerdean , but as it is closed at the moment we tried the Fishers. I can report that in my opinion it is every bit as good as the Plough was. The beer was also excellent and the proprietors very friendly. The village is beautiful too. Although the menu is small (sometimes a large menu can be just too confusing) the choice of mains was very good and catered for all tastes. We decided on the fish pie which when it arrived - piping hot! - was extremely filling and tasty. Plenty of different varieties of fish and lovely mixed veg. We then just had room for a pud - hubbie had hot sponge with custard and I had a scrumptious ice cream confection. All in all very good food for a small local pub. Three of us ate well (main course, dessert and drinks) for just under £60. Everything was freshly prepared and was really nice. The suet pudding was slightly on the soggy side but that was the only minor fault. The steak was cooked exactly right, the vegetables were not over cooked and the chips were fluffy inside and crispy outside. There was a good range of food. It was what we were hoping for. An added bonus was the traditional music being played live in the bar while we were there. One word of warning, don't leave it too late, food service stops around 9pm. Would we go back? Yes we would.

They had only just being doing meals for a few weeks since re-vamping the kitchen. The reports that I heard we all positive so when I had my Mother an sister up for the weekend. We dined there on a Friday evening with my two sons. We added any drinks to the bill as we were eating. Paul has a quite good selection of both red and white wines along with at least two guest cask ales at any one time. We ordered generally had two courses either a starter or a dessert to go with the main, however one of the lads went 'Full Monty' and had three courses. There were at least x3 starters (pate/soup etc.) or desserts (cheesecake/fruit pies with ice cream custard etc.) to chose from and four main courses (fish/steak/pasta dish) all nicely cooked and presented. The service was attentive and speedy but not rushed. The total cost including all of the drinks was just over £100 so god value overall. We enjoyed the meal so much we booked to come back for the Sunday lunch. Paul and Maggie are starting to have regular fish supper evenings in the New year but pre-booking will be essential due to both demand and ordering of fresh local fish.

Meals are now available and very good. I ate here a couple of weeks ago and had the homemade fish pie which was lovely. The atmosphere in the pub is warm, welcoming and very friendly. Last night we were there a music evening and the pub was buzzing and the owners served free snacks. We had a great evening.

At Last Landlords who welcome their customers and know what they are doing. We all went there last night after fireworks display in Horncliffe and the place was buzzing. Free food to warm the cockles and the kids were welcome.Food going to be served as soon as the new kitchen is fitted. Will be a regular to this place in front of the open fires. "We've only one cook and she's not well"It was so bad we made our excuses and left. Heard locally that the place has recently sold and will be I new hands soon. We didn't eat here so can't attest to the food, but we were not welcomed with open arms.

After a walk along the river Tweed from Berwick we visited this the only pub in the village for s well earned pint. The interior is quaint and the landlord had one hand pull on and the ale was well kept. Despite only the three of us being in we were offered the full menu and daily specials. The lamb cobbler was very tasty and the portion great for the price. The landlord told us he is selling the pub due to his ongoing health issues and it would be a tragedy if the place closed. Hopefully a younger person wanting to be a publican sees this as an opportunity and makes the place attractive for the village and visitors. The Landlord was very kind in organising a taxi back to Berwick for us when we finished our mail.

I like this place, the food is excellent and there is a proper old style bar. I've eaten here quite a few times in the last year and it has out-performed my expectations each time. I hear that it is getting new management so hope the high standards are maintained. Excellent for dinner or lunch or just a drink

Enjoyed a meal here after receiving a warm welcome from the landlord. The local band meet on Wednesday and we enjoyed some fine music on penny whistle and mouth organ. Food was simple but well cooked and puddings were very nice indeed

Whilst staying at the chainbridge camp site we visited the fishers arms on two occasions, once to eat and once for a drink, on both occasions is was quiet but we got a very warm welcome from the landlord who sat chatting to us as we had a drink. The food we had was lovely, good home cooked grub, the batter on the fish and chips was the lightest I had ever tasted. Lovely little traditional pub with a nice welcome, felt like a local not a tourist, definitely recommend.

It was very quiet on the night we visited and had been let down by a pub we had booked - we picked the Fishers Arms from the Good Beer Guide and when we walked in we were greeted warmly and given a table. The pub looked a 'bit tired' and we wondered if we had made the right decision. But we needn't have worried - the food was good home-cooked grub, a good price and good beer as you'd expect. We all loved the sherry trifle for pudding! Very friendly and good service

The first time we used 'tripadvisor' to find somewhere new to visit and eat we read a review saying the Fishers Arms served the best fish and chips. The reviewer wasn't wrong. Small quiet village and large quiet pub/ restaurant. When we entered the pub the chap standing at the bar reading a newspaper was not a customer. He was in fact the co-owner, who, along with his wife, the chef, run a very laid back place that serves some of the finest food we have eaten over the 40 or so years of travel and eating pub grub. Their beer battered fish is the best we have ever eaten. The owner admitted that the peas and chips that accompanied the fish were frozen but if he had said they were fresh we would have had to believe him. The selection of sweets, though tempting, were not chosen as we were both unable to eat any more. A very good selection of wines, at reasonable prices, made us remark that we would be back in the near future. After a very disappointing visit to an hotel less than 6 miles from the Fishers Arms, the following Saturday, we returned to the Fishers Arms, this time to enjoy a meal with a my sister. This time we had the chicken chasseur, steak and ale pie with puff pastry topping and minted lamb cobbler. It won't be long before we return to the Fishers Arms with other members of our family as an excuse to enjoy their food, company and friendly atmosphere.

We visited this pub twice whilst staying in a cottage in a nearby village, once in the evening & once at lunchtime. On each visit we were given a warm welcome by the landlord & good service. The meals we had were great, good pub grub at a very reasonable price. We will certainly visit this pub again when we are back in the area later this year.

We were recommended to come here by locals and they weren't wrong. The pub was very quiet at 7.00 pm on a Friday and we wondered if we had done the right thing, but a friendly welcome from the landlord soon put us at ease. We ordered the local haddock and chips, which was superb. This is a meal which can so easily be all wrong - greasy, thick batter and soggy chips come to mind - but the fish was cooked perfectly in a light, thin, crisp batter and the chips were excellent. Would definitely come again. Good price too.

This was a very short walk from the camp site just down the road, but it was worth the trip. It's a very small concern, but if you're after a quiet pint in a quiet local, and the chance to have some home cooked grub, then this is the place. Lovely friendly barmaid, and we'd go back if we're staying at the campsite again.

We popped in for a meal on Saturday night and can highly recommend The Fishers Arms. The service was great and really friendly, we were told that all of the food is home cooked to order, so if there was anything we weren't sure about on the menu we could ask and have it changed. Both the beer battered haddock and chips and the minted lamb cobbler were great, really tasty and big portions, and the bill was also extremely reasonable. The only thing I would say is that it was a wee bit chilly, but the warm reception we got more than made up for it!

The portions were huge, they were very helpful the staff and so friendly to me and my family. They gave my small dog a water bowl too some treats. I would come here again if I came back to wooler.

Might have been a bad day at the office but not sure what the hype is after having read some really good reviews. Booking for 3 adults 2 children (2&7)12:00 on Sunday 27th Oct. We initially wanted to come for the seafood platter, however, this was unavailable on a Sunday which can't be helped. We opted for 2 Sunday lunches, 1 salmon, and a sausage and mash. All of the veg that was served with the mains was luke warm at best, the Yorkshire pudding with one of the mains was burnt, the mash was lumpy, the roasts were in my opinion inedible (hard and dry on the inside and the skin was tough and soggy as if cooked from frozen or reheated), no cutlery was given, the salmon was swimming in a sauce almost as if it were a soup (could be preference but not how I would serve it personally). We were asked twice if everything was OK and we said unfortunately not and specified why. The service stated that they check on this for us but nothing was mentioned or escalated and we paid full price for all meals. We would have returned to try the seafood platter (as we've heard good things) if some effort was made to potentially refund part of the meals but no effort was made to rectify this. In addition to this we had to wipe down our table, seats and high chair as they were dusty and unclean. The gents toilets were very unclean also. We went to an Italian chain restaurant the week before and the food was far superior and better value for money. Overall, quite disappointing given the reputation from positive reviews.
