The Lavender Tearooms in Northumberland

Having taken a trip on the local light railway, we stopped here for a quick cup of tea and a cake before returning to the train for our return trip. Unfortunately, we only had 1 hour at Etal, so time was of the essence. We took a table inside at the rear of the establishment and ordered three teas and three Teacakes. I ordered the Lavender Tea, which initially was very nice, however if you do order this, don't let it stew as the flavour quickly turns a bitter. The Teacakes were huge and delicious and came with copious amounts of delicious butter, I can highly recommend them. The only sour point was the time it took for the Tea cakes to arrive, bearing in mind by the time we arrived at the tearooms, we only had about forty minutes left before having to return to the train. The Teacakes took twenty minutes to arrive - how long does it take to toast a Teacake? My mother had to take part of her Teacake with her as she had no time to eat all of it and make the walk back to the train. Apart from that blip, it was a fairly decent visit but I imagine you could be in for quite a wait if the Tearoom was busy.

We visited lavender tearooms yesterday after our train ride. It looked extremely welcoming and had the option to sit outside or inside. My daughter isn’t a fan of outdoor dining so we decided to sit inside. We chose a drink each and a panini. Whilst ordering at the counter. I spotted the selection of chocolates and decided to also get some of those and went for the flavours we usually enjoy. We wasn’t waiting long for our food. My daughter opted for the ham and cheese panini which she said she wasn’t a fan of the ham used and grease from the panini was dripping all over her plate. She only ate half. I opted for the sweet chilli chicken. I was disappointed there was no cheese in the sweet chill chicken panini. However, it wasn’t listed to have cheese melted in it, it’s just I have sweet chilli chicken panini a lot and it always has had cheese in it in other places. The chicken was of poor quality too. It doesn’t take much to grill a piece of chicken, or fry some diced chicken and it tastes so much better than the chicken inside of my panini, Instead it was sliced precooked chicken that you buy in plastic packaging heated up. I know the taste and the texture as I used to buy it for a family member and I never liked the taste or texture; you can tell it’s not fresh cooked chicken and that it has preservatives in it. We had chosen around 5 individual chocolates to try and got one each so 10 in total. Although choosing flavours we normally enjoy. There was only two of the chocolates we actually enjoyed, the others had a weird taste to them. I wish we hadn’t eaten there and had chosen to have a drink and eat elsewhere. We spent £25 for two drinks, two paninis and a selection of about 10 individual chocolates. I feel it was a waste of money and would not return. My advice would be for the tearoom to not cut corners by using cheaper products like the chicken and the ham as the taste is important and customers will tell the difference.

Visited the tearooms, after a ride on the heatherslaw railway. Such a picture postcard place, in a beautiful village setting. Seating in and outdoors, and as we had a dog, we sat outside in the lovely garden. There are plenty of dog bowls, and a water station for dogs. There is even a dog menu! The staff are so welcoming, and efficient. Our order was served quickly, and was perfect. There is a varied menu, and a lovely shop inside the post office, with delicious bakes for sale. A definite must to visit in Etal.

Called into this wonderful establishment for coffee .so friendly nothing too much trouble.albeit the owners were unable to be there.due to unforseen circumstances., the young man went out of his way to make us feel comfortable. A must for locals and visitors alike.

Walked here for a coffee and cake. The paradise slice and Mars Bar crunch were delicious and Harley, our Vizsla, was also treated to dog biscuits.

We have used this tearoom on several occasions. The staff are always friendly and work hard to keep up demand on busy days. We have eaten here before when the food was great but on this occasion we just called in for a coffee which was also good. The shop is also great with lots of local goodies and gifts plus a selection of the basic if you were self catering in the area. There is a nice seating area outside if you have a dog as we do, plus seating inside at the rear of the shop. Highly recommend.

Fantastic little tearoom with a lovely store and a post office as well. Delicious coffee and scone. Took some lavender cake away with me as this is their signature cake. It was so tasty. The staff were so friendly and attentive. Highly recommend a visit to this gorgeous part of the world it's just ideallic.

We popped in for lunch while visiting on the Heatherslaw Light Railway. What a perfect addition to an already enjoyable trip. Very friendly, helpful staff. Food was nicely prepared and served promptly with a good range of choices. Nice atmosphere and would recommend.

I would never go there again after my experience there today. A very rude and aggressive member of staff completely spoilt the visit and upset the rest of my family. Don’t go there .

Gorgeous little tearoom with plenty of outside seating in a lovely garden setting and views of the very pretty little village of Etal. Excellent choice of sandwiches, panini, jackets and quiche style lunches, all very reasonably priced. Also a choice of cakes and cream teas, we chose the latter. Beautifully light plain scone (choice of plain or fruit) good amount of clotted cream and strawberry jam and lovely pot of tea. All the food being served looked lovely, friendly and accommodating staff, great place for couples and families alike. Highly recommend. The village store inside is also a great place to pick up some local treats.

Have visited here several times over the years and it is delightful. They have a nice menu and the cafe is immaculately clean and tidy and the staff are pleasant and friendly. Placed in a lovely setting, this place is a credit to the owners and I would definitely recommend.

We had the Xmas breakfast with santa, full cooked breakfast, hot and tasty,with unlimited tea and toast. Grandchildren got presents from santa, treats for reindeer, elf scroll, activities at the table. Also was contacted before to find out about grandchildren so santa knew something about them. i was a bit dubious about trying the tearoom's signature lavender cake for the first time - on Bake Off they always say it's easy to overdo lavender - but it was amazing! Light, fluffy and served slightly warm with the apricot jam melting into it. The in-house baker certainly knows what he's doing! The tearoom staff were friendly and helpful too, dressed up for Halloween on this occasion!

there is some lovely walking in the area including Flodden Field. We came for a refreshment break, one of us needed gluten free and they have one of the better bought-in ranges here. I had a singing Hinny which was enormous, but warm and delicious with butter. (other people around also had cream and jam on it). Its a lovely garden but we had to carry everything in when the rain started. Also a well-stocked shop and post office inside.

Went here after arriving on the train. Tried Singing Hinnys and Border Tart. All delicious and reasonably priced (the Hinnys were massive!). Great place to visit. Fantastic shop with all sorts of edible goodies too.

Lovely place to visit if you've used the light railway. We had delicious border tart and a fabulous lemon drizzle cake. This is a very hard working Tea Room. It has a varied menu and the Singin' Hinnie "T" was brilliant, a scone with a big difference. The service is quick and polite, the product delightful and staff is always clearing and cleaning as soon as patrons leave. To cap this off the prices were very reasonable. Very customer orientated.

Coffee and cake in a great garden setting. Lovely staff, and plants for sale. Sadly the flat white really isn’t one, but it’s still worth 4 stars.

3 of us on Sat 8th July sat outside on a beautiful sunny day about 12 noon. This place is a little heaven and so clean and the staff are helpful. This place of off the scale and I mean wonderful and if you are in the area, pop in. I have only scored 4/5 because, I chose the cream tea with their wonderful scones which were warmed before serving. HOWEVER, the scone was warmed in the microwave which turn an otherwise lovely scone into a spongy mush and NOT very nice. A few places tend to do this and if only they could see the difference it makes when eating, they would warm in an oven or just leave it as it is. I know this sounds picky, BUT, it does make a ruin an otherwise good scone. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, no more soggy microwave scones. They rest of our food was delicious.

This is one of those places where you arrive thinking you just need a place to grab a drink and a piece of cake or something to nibble and you'll be done. However I have to give extra credit to Lavender Tea Rooms and the owners, this place was spotlessly clean, well laid out, everything was displayed clearly and everything looked very inviting. It might sound strange, but I must also mention the toilets. They were kept really clean and unlike 99% of places they were actually a pleasure to use (?!). The staff were all really pleasant and I certainly got the feeling that everyone was trying to make sure that they were delivering the best possible service they could. For me this is a treat of a place and I wish I was able to go every day, but seeing as I can't, I would recommend that you give it a try when you're in this neck of the woods. Totally recommended.

We called in after visiting Etal Castle and this was definitely the best tearoom we visited during our week in the area. Lovely home baked treats including the loveliest and largest tea cake ever seen! Well worth a visit.
