The best restaurants serving British food in County Durham North East

Our visit was for Sunday lunch as a family of 7 and overall we enjoyed the food. The choice was good although we had noticed the prices had gone up but initially we were impressed, the girl serving us was helpful and courteous and It wasn't until we started ordering pudding and coffees that the service was appalling. A different waitress brought the coffee but was so rude when we were asking for milk, sprinkles for the cappuccino, she very nearly chucked that all over the table. This is the reason we have scored 3 stars and the fact that we left no tip.

Good food good service and a nice relaxing atmosphere.

Lovely gent called Oliver made the best Pina colada. Would recommend.

My most recent visit was as exceptional as every other visit. The staff service is amazing and the food is served lovely and hot and cooked to perfection. I honestly have no complaints. Just wish we could afford to go more often, travelling from Barnard Castle and the food for myself, partner and daughter certainly adds up, and of course we have to get a dessert 🥰 but is definitely worth it!

Called in yesterday Sat 25th for lunch as normal when we were shopping in town . We found out that they had changed the menu very dissapointed had to send the food back as the fries were cold yet again that was 3 times in 6 weeks that has happened .The prices have gone up which is understandable but you expect hot food . Will not be calling in again, will eat somewhere else from now on .Which is a shame really because its very handy to get to and the staff are always polite

Very spacious Marstons pub with a good atmosphere. The staff were friendly. The menu was the usual standard Marstons menu which is lovely. The food was cooked well and we all enjoyed. We can always rely on a Marstons pub for good pub food. The toilets were clean. Would definitely return

Chain pub, no atmosphere bright lights, TVs on all the walls. Why spoil a pub in a great location by making it like Blackpool?

The hotel, rooms and spa are lovely - I often have people staying there who visit us but…….Three of us ( all locals, in our 60’s) have been going to the bar at The Manor House regularly for about 6 years for a monthly get together for wine / whisky and chat and spend well over £150 a session. However since some staff changes (staff leaving) the service and the attitude of some of the (largely untrained) staff has become very unwelcoming. There’s a definite atmosphere of ‘we don’t want locals’ which as we’re often the only ones there is quite surprising and disappointing given our custom over the years.

Won't buy steak pies again nothing inside, and they were definitely not fresh that morning, have bought them before and have always been nice, but unfortunately I do believe these were not fresh.

Stopped here a couple of times for warming hot chocolate. Staff were polite and the toasties were very nice too

Came here for a bite to eat on a Sunday afternoon. Everywhere was full or fully booked so we called here for something small, food was ok for what we wanted & staff were pleasant enough.

Heard so many good things about the Aviator…. Arrived at 3.50pm today (70 minutes before they close and 40 minutes before last orders for food) to be told ‘sorry, we’ve stopped serving food (even though the staff were still visible in the kitchen) Very disappointed as I hadn’t eaten all day and I’m writing this review on a painfully empty stomach….. If the staff could have been bothered I’m sure we could have been accommodated 😫

We went for an afternoon tea and a spa day at Raddison Blu Hotel, and as always, had been a great experience. They refurbished the restaurant, and it looks so great. The spa day was really nice, too. Shout out to the massage therapists Clare L and Janine, who were very good. Ladies, you made our day! Thank you!! ❤️

The staff are really nice and really good at their job , highly recommend, especially Aidan, the store manager, who I cannot speak highly enough of. He is very friendly, and is a credit to the Costa brand!
