Quaint pub on my parents street. Classic pub, no frills and good prices, highly recommended.

What a wonderful friendly pub this is. The owners spoke with us asking us about our travels in the camper and even helped us out with a local place to park up. The local people were so friendly too really lovely evening. The owners then told us yo help ourselves to a cheeseboard that they had laid on for no cost! How very kind of them .

Arrived to an empty bar with 5 other people after a lovely hike in the surrounding area. The Landlord did not make us feel welcome, actually didn’t say a word. Also it was ‘cash only’ at the bar, which may catch some out who visit. There are some beautiful views from pub at the rear, I will never return !

Been coming to the village for something like 30 years never been in the Fleece until yesterday evening walking the dog. Unlike a previous review I had a warm welcome from landlord & landlady as well as the friendly "locals". Also a splendid view of the sunset over the Fells.

A simple, no nonsense, old English pub. The fire was lit and the drinks were cheap. Very quiet - perfect for a pit stop along the A68. Great if you like an old-school inn from days gone by. Cash only.

Wanted a little beer after a walk and it was dead as a dodo, didn't feel particularly welcomed by the person behind the bar, and it was cash only which we didn't have. Who does not accept card these days?? Unbelievable! Had a lovely fire burning bright which is worth the 1 star!

It is at the end of the village you can go in for a drink but they don't sell food, It runs by a husband and wife who are elderly.

Was on holiday in the area and nipped in for a quick drink. The landlady is super lovely, very welcoming and took a genuine interest in us., the locals were friendly as well. Great view over the valley from the back of the bar, its dog friendly and the cheapest pint I have had in the UK in about 5 x years! Yes its not the type of place to get a dirty martini, but its a nice wee village pub and we will be back next time we are in the area. Thank-you for making us feel very welcome.

Doesnt deserve the 1 star but cant leave it blank. Not friendly at all, popped in for a cold drink on a hot day was told after being ignored for 10 minutes that they didnt take cards. Didnt feel welcomed at all by the barman who was abrupt and gave the impression we were not welcomed or wanted there. We wont be returning ever again and judging by the empty bar we arent the only ones who feel this way.

Only a stranger the for the first five minutes . . after that and for many visits since, one of the loveliest little places to stop by. Welcoming, warm and friendly. Long may it stay and we'll be there again this afternoon. Many thanks

Visited The Fleece regardless of the one adverse comment and what a pleasure it was. The landlord was welcoming and informative. He told us some of the history of the pub going back to as far as 1820. The drinks were reasonably priced and The Bombardier was exceptional. If you are staying at The Derwent Manor it’s a lovely local just down the road. The locals were chatty and very pleasant, the views from the conservatory over the local countryside were beautiful.

2 stars as it was open and the drinks are reasonably priced. Did not feel welcome, no smile from the landlord who was busy watching the TV, when his programme was finished he switched it off. Did not feel comfortable so drank up and left. Only one other person in the bar.

Have seen this pub for the last 6 years or so on my way to derwent manor and always wanted to try it. Walked there today from derwent manor and its a Lovely little pub with great views over the hills from the conservatory, roaring fire and very reasonable prices, but really didn't feel welcome at all. It's a shame as there's beer mats promoting local pubs and saying how many local pubs close a week, not surprising if the welcomes are as cold as this. Maybe it's different if you're a local but if your a stranger it's quite an uncomfortable atmosphere

No volveré.

What a great place. Good atmosphere and friendly. Three of us had sea bass in prawn sauce and it was delicious. One other had the most enormous roast which apparently was great. Really good Sunday evening menu. Very good value for money. Thanks to staff for an enjoyable time.
