We went for an afternoon tea and a spa day at Raddison Blu Hotel, and as always, had been a great experience. They refurbished the restaurant, and it looks so great. The spa day was really nice, too. Shout out to the massage therapists Clare L and Janine, who were very good. Ladies, you made our day! Thank you!! ❤️

Dined at the newly refurbished "Jozef's" restaurant. The food was good, but the menu was very limited and expensive. The listed prices didn't include VAT. As for the service we received on that night ... The waitress appeared to be poorly trained and came across as rude. The restaurant was not busy, but service was very slow. Disappointing!

I was given Living Social vouchers as a gift and attended for dinner. Meal was nice, service was mediocre. I asked for my bill, staff member came over and told me that we had money left to spend up to £60 with the voucher. Surprised but assuming that the staff knew what they were talking about, she encouraged us to buy more deserts. Paid for the drinks - which is what the staff member said was all we had to pay for. Went to leave, she then came running after us and told us to come over to another area. This is where we were made to feel like we had tried to walk off without paying. It appears the first member of staff had made a mistake. We were spoken to like pieces of dirt, embarrassed in front of other diners. Completely spoiled the experince for me, it was so embarrassing. Won't recommend this to anyone, really upsetting.

The experience here was as good as you would expect with no booking on a Saturday, meaning we could not be seated in the main restaurant, however staff were gracious enough to seat us in the bar and provided restaurant food though it was not served in the bar itself! However, even with the restaurant menu available to us the options for food were still miniscule at best. Though the food they do serve is very well made!

Dinner deal - 3 courses for £25. Food - Soup of the day broccoli - came piping hot which is wonderful rather too hot and time to cool than cold! Main - beef with crushed potato quite delicious, decent presentation, huge portion size. Drinks menu - photocopied! And skew/ not aligned very unprofessional Service - sweet but untrained teens - terrible - table cutlery set too close together - not sure if a tea cup saucer could fit in the allotted space. - had to call for attention multiple times - glass for water but no water brought. When asked for water they brought a lovely big bottle but first glass not poured for me. - starter & appetiser brought at the same time ; when plate finished took 10 mins for them to remove them. - glass Prosecco was room temp (meant to be chilled) - attention to detail was very poor Summary - lovely food but service’s attention to detail was disappointing and let down the overall experience

Visited the resturant for an evening meal while staying at the hotel. I ordered popcorn prawns for starter for £6 and about 5 pieces of tiny prawns with salad leaves where served really unappetising. For main I ordered crab tortellini and at £16 you would think that you get a good helping of pasta and it being really delicious full of flavour but no it came with 5 bits of tortellini and was as bland as anything and really watery really disappointing. I had one mouthful and I had to complain as it was that bad. My daughter ordered the kids pizza which came as four little slices and it was rock hard like eating cardboard. I complained and spoke to the manager and he knocked the food off the bill. I ended up going somewhere else for food. This place is just a total rip off and if you like bland tasteless food then go but otherwise keep well away!!! One of the worst meals i've ever had. On top of that service was diabolical.

We visited in May for my grans birthday. The service was terrible and we had to wait 30 mins for drinks to arrive, despite asking for these multiple times. We were then over charged on the bill for drinks we didn’t have. The food was bland and poor value for money. We ordered pizza and chips which on the menu cost £15.50, yet we were charged £20 due a separate deal they had running. When I asked about this they said “that’s how the till works” and refused to change it. Will not be returning!

Having read several very negative reviews on Tripadvisor, it was with some trepidation and low expectations that we entered the hotels Collage restaurant. However our fears were totally unfounded. The young front of house team were polite, friendly and efficient. On our first evening visit our drinks and food orders were taken and delivered promptly. The food was well cooked and all excellent quality. The Full English buffet breakfast the following morning was also very well organized. Needs a serious reality check. The food is simply crap and the prices are preposterous. Had one of the worst experiences tonight. Decided to try the restaurant as we got a deal from Groupon. Starters were nice but when the main meal came, it all went tragically wrong. I ordered the ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce and my husband ordered the crab pasta dish.I ordered the steak rare, it came medium to well. The peppercorn sauce was like water with a few peppercorns floating in, when you poured it it just ran off the steak. Horrible! The worst is yet to come. The crab pasta came, not a sign of crab anywhere, just baby sweetcorn and onion floating around a bowl of fishy water with pasta floating on top. Completely inedibe soup based concoction. We sent it back. A waiter came out 5 minutes later with the dish saying, “the chef said this is how it comes”. Poor lad, he looked mortified. I explained to the young lad that we sent it back because it should not have been served in the first place and how dare he (the chef) send it back to the table when it’s dishwater! It was returned and we ordered the roast roast chicken, That was dehydrated, not even prepped properly with its backbone and parsons nose still intact. The manageress came over and asked what the problem was. I explained and she said it was brought back out cos he didn’t want to waste food, what? So we are supposed to accept the rubbish he served because they don’t want to throw it away? Top tip Radisson Blu, don’t make terrible food and it won’t be returned. I explained that it was a disgrace that he returned the dish to us and the food was of that poor standard. Absolute disgrace, time for a new chef I think. The only saving grace of that place was the lovely waitress. Didn’t catch her name but she was so understanding, unlike the manageress and deserves the tip we left specifically for her. Never again, avoid at all cost!

I don’t know where to start with this truly dreadful experience. If I was the manager of this place I’d be loosing sleep over how bad this really is.First of all the price bracket suggests fine dining for the area. £16 for a burger...£9 for pea salad starter. Finbarrs or The Rib Room are similar price brackets. Your certainly not paying for the name after all.So on the basis of fine dining it gets 1. Terrible. If it was priced like weatherspoons along the road then it might have got 3.Bread basket at £3 was 2 (yes 2 for 2 people) slices of factory baked baguette with an unnecessary amount of oil and butter. It was as if the rest of it was eaten by the waiter on the way to the table. A complete joke just to begin with. Then the starters came. Uninspiring onion soup was totally under seasoned. My pea salad was served on stale bread which was so hard it flew across the room when I cut into it and was later splattered by the unsuspecting waiter when he came to get our plates. It was also under seasoned and the flavours of feta, pea and avocado did not go together. The mains which were £18 for lamb and £16 for veggie burger were average too. Lamb was okay but the veggie burger lacked flavour (and not because it wasn’t meat before you say anything :-) and was basically a hash brown in an average bun with no sauce. The actual patty squished in the bun and was too small leaving the centre with just bread and lettuce.I asked for mayonnaise and it got worse....they bought an actual tube of helmans and stuck it on the table like we were after all in weatherspoons. Considering it’s 3 times the price that’s a joke. The final straw was being handed a pen and being asked to write down our own Meerkat code (getting discount still brought the bill to £40 as the drinks were exhaustionate.)Diet cokes come in 200ml bottles and cost £2.40 making a pint of Diet Coke roughly £7.20. Signs on the entrance doors explaining the automatic door doesn’t work are only on one side and stuck in with brown packing tape. There is a severe lack of standards in this place and management need to take a long hard look at themselves. Sadly the theme also runs into the dirty spa which has many of the same issues. Greedy and complacent establishment that need a wake up call to start earning their overinflated reputation.

I don’t have any problems with the hotel, but it’s with one of their restaurants that I was very disappointed with. Collage was the worst, by far, restaurant that I have ever dined in with. My family and I have been looking forward to our dinner as we were celebrating one of our member’s milestone. To our dismay, we were seated waiting for almost an hour for every request we have. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation, asked for our orders after sitting there for almost an hour despite our effort of getting their attention. The female server who looked like she was training someone took our orders and seemed like she didn’t write everything we ordered. We waited and waited for our food and kept on trying to catch their attention. Finally, when we got their attention, some of our orders were missing and one of us had to stand up, walk to their station to get their attention. We had to wait for at least 30 minutes for our drinks, 30 minutes for our starters, another 20 minutes for our mains, and 30 minutes for our drinks. We noticed that some customers who arrived after us were served first and got their meals ahead of us. When we finally got our starters and our mains, we had to wait for almost an hour for our drinks to be served. Not to mention the food that we were served were not warm enough and some tasted like they were not ag par with what they advertised. Finally when we asked for our bill, we waited for another 30 minutes for it and when we complained to the manager, it seemed like she got irritated or annoyed by our comments and rushes to finish our transaction for us to leave immediately. She frowned the whole time and left the machine all for us to finish paying for our bill and didn’t even bother checking if we got all our orders and things straight. Was it because we were asians? It seemed like it. Because with the time that we were left behind to look at other customers around us, locals were served best and promptly while other nationalities/races were left to wait batting our eyes off until they notice us. Bad service! Bad food! Never ever come to this restaurant if you were to celebrate a very important occasion as they will only ruin your night! So disappointing, really!!!

As it was raining, my thoughts of walking to the Market Square and finding a local restaurant were dismissed and I had supper in the Collage restaurant. No atmosphere with bare wood floors and canteen-like tables and chairs a disappointment. Ordered Liver pate with chutney and toasted sourdough (£8.00) as my starter. The pate came with a monstrously thick crust of butter which added nothing to the dish. The toast was presented cold - how many restaurants make the simple error of toasting read too early? The pate was bland but not inedible. Main course of fish & chips (£15.00) should have been a winner in the North East but the battered cod was straight out of the freezer, the thin chips were not crisp and the hotel could not offer the "caviar of the region" proper marrowfat (mushy) peas with frozen peas as poor substitute. This was very moderate institutionalised hotel cooking and not recommended.

We were greeted and seated rapidly, and the afternoon tea was served quickly but we were never asked how it was or whether we wanted anything else after the food arrived. I expect servers in four-star hotel restaurants to be far more attentive. I thought the atmosphere of the restaurant was soulless. The food itself was okay but I would have baulked at paying the full price: even taking into account the offer we had I think top dollar was paid for the experience.

We visited here with friends who came up from London. Its quite a limited menu and struggled to find something appealing. First course I had the prawn cocktail which was bland I then had the grill which was if it had been cooked and put under the heater so things that were crispy shouldn't have been and the sausage was if someone had made a mistake on the measurement of salt. The coleslaw side was bland. My partner had the same apart from the starter. My son had a steak which he wanted cooked blue but was medium. My friends had soup and prawn cocktail and one had Caesar salad and requested no tomatoes but it came with tomatoes. I can't fault the service as staff were so lovely and felt so sorry for them to have to serve such awful food. We have so many great restaurants in the area don't waste your money here.

I visited the hotel for an evening meal with friends parking my car in the hotel car park. The parking ticket machine wasn't working so I followed posted instructions and dialled a number on my (oldish)mobile phone which asked for my credit card and car registration number etc to be keyed in on the phone pad. As the keyboard is only numeric this took a while as letters are more complicated than numbers. And it was dark. Eventually I succeeded but it was a frustratingly slow process and must have taken at least 15 mins. I think I paid for 2 or 3 hours but there was no confirming SMS message only a later charge to my credit card. The convivial meal lasted about 3 hours after which I left the hotel by my hire car (I was visiting the UK). I couldn't work out how I could pay for any excess time I might have incurred. Next thing I know is that Hertz have billed me £42 to give my details to Parking Eye, the Company running the car park. Now I have a parking charge notice from Parking Eye for £100. So the total cost of my admittedly nice meal was around £190!! I am really annoyed by this as I was certainly not trying to evade paying and feel I have been very unfairly ripped off.

Visited here on a Groupon voucher and the food/service was so good we booked again for two days later. The was an adequate choice for a groupon voucher on the menu so plenty to choose from. The food was a a really good standard served quickly and hot. The food not only tasted superb but was great to look at on the plate. The service was second to none with our waitress (Victoria) being outstandingly professional, she was friendly, attentive, chatty and always smiling. We took two grandkids with us and she was absolutely fantastic with them. The restaurant should hold this young lady up as a shining example of how a member of staff should treat customers which was absolutely excellent and worked her socks off ensuring that all the tables she was serving got the best service possible. I will certainly be returning here in the future.

Good selection of food. Reasonable prices. Very friendly waiter. Expensive wine...£10 a glass! Not majorly atmospheric but it was a business trip!

Visited on a Saturday night using a groupon deal. Service was excellent, surroundings lovely and relaxing, (except for the horrendous background jazz music!) The restaurant was approx 2/3 full so plenty of atmosphere. Upon being seated, we were presented with table water served with cucumber and two different breads. The house wine proved to be very palatable. We chose prawn cocktail and avocado on toast to begin - both very good, followed by fish and chips and salmon and cod fish cake, again both excellent. A word of warning- the fish cake is not the usual potato affair, this one is pure fish and very filling!. Too full for dessert, but they looked good too. All in all an excellent meal at the bargain price of £32

Bought a Groupon voucher for sparkling afternoon tea for £26.95 for 2 people, really easy to check availability & book using the link. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly & offered a choice of tables as it was relatively quiet (only 1 other duo present). The young lady meeting & greeting was very polite & efficient, don't recall her name but Victoria was a delight too, so refreshing to deal with both of them. Food delivered to the table closely followed by coffee, 4 different types of sandwiches, an array of fancy cakes & scones with cream & jam, just advised to catch their attention as/when the prosecco was required, another flask of coffee was also brought when requested, we knew staff were on hand if required but they weren't in your face & the restaurant & bathrooms were impeccably clean, for what we paid it was an excellent deal, however I wouldn't dream of paying that each as per the menu, not worth it, but be your own judge from the photos, by the time we left at 4 it was rather busy, if you fancy a bit of a treat then you won't go wrong

We had breakfast each morning of our 3 day stay and dinner for 2. Breakfast had a comprehensive range (hot and cold) and eggs cooked while you wait. Evening menu was also good.

I ordered for side, roasted veg and for main I had roasted cauliflower. Lovely food, properly baked, having all what it should have, but sweet because of sultanas, and lot of almonds.

This is the restaurant attached to the Radisson and I expect very few people will visit unless staying at the hotel. I ate here as it was raining heavily when I was staying at the hotel and all the other restaurants are at least 10min walk away.

The food here is very much overpriced and not the finest cuisine you would expect from such a fancy hotel. Staff on the other hand are lovely and attentive. Wine is expensive around £9 for a large glass but was nice. The food was distinctly average. The burger was fine and chips slightly warm. I wouldn't rate the terrine at all- it was tasteless. The restaurant have just started offering meals through Groupon and I'd say if you get a deal through there it's probably worth it. I won't be back as there are far better places to eat in Durham.

I don't want to eat burgers or fish and chips, and certainly not at the prices. I initially chose the lamb rump, but was informed by the waitress that it was a 40 minute wait. The only appealing choice on the menu for me was the 'Fillet of Seabass' which was good but not particularly tasty, and as there was nothing to tempt me on the menu, we ate out on our second night. Avoid the 'Rosemary Chicken' as it's a 30+ minute wait, comes as a whole chicken with pot of fries; it's so unappetising, but I picked at it as hungry and left the bones!

It's so nice to stay in a hotel that offers fine fayre on site. With so many hotel chains to choose from. The Blu is always a great option if nearby. Not fine dining, but certainly good food and equally attentive service. Keep it up.

We visited the Collage restaurant during our stay at the Radisson hotel. The booking was for 6.30pm right at the beginning of dinner service. Our waitress was quite friendly and took our order. We did have to wait quite some time for our meal to be served which was not a major issue since it was a relaxing evening for us. At this time only two other couples in the restaurant at the same time. Our meal was most enjoyable and the issues only started to appear when we wished to sign our bill. The restaurant had started to get busier when it came to requesting our bill and it took three requests for our bill from the waitress and thirty minutes waiting time in total before finally receiving it. The waitress was very busy and the request for our bill constantly seemed to get pushed back in her list of priorities. Not entirely her fault since she was under a lot of pressure but the restaurant should have been aware that additional staffing may have been required over periods of dinner service and could have managed the situation better.

My wife and I decided to eat here as we were staying in the hotel for the weekend. We were initially shown to a wobbly table but once we pointed this out we were given a choice of others as it wasn't busy. The menu is fairly small however we did find something for each of us and were happy with our choices. Overall the food was ok, well presented and tasty however we felt it was little pricey for both the food and the drink.
