We were a group of 19, all with Basset hounds, that were made to feel very welcome. This is definitely a very dog friendly pub that does great food thatās reasonably priced. (All our group said how much they enjoyed the food). This is the second time I have been there and canāt fault it. The garden room is perfect for groups like ours. Many thanks, Kent Basset Waddle.

This is now actually called the Alde Cafe. Iāve been twice in the last three days. There are fancier places along the High Street, but you will not get a better meal there than you will find at the Alde. Sean is a brilliant cook who prepares every dish with both flare and a respect for tradition. It was the best fry up I have had in the last twenty years, and a welcomed alternative to the recent tendency of serving them up in thali dishes, with about a tablespoon of beans in one and a cubic centimeter of toast in another. I just had the kedgeree, which was magnificently prepared with haddock from the smokehouses along the Shingle. There are many reasons to come to ever-beautiful Aldeburgh. But Iād rank breakfast or lunch at the Alde Cafe at the very top of my list.

On the 19th April 2025 we were visiting aldeburgh with friends as we had heard aldeburgh were famous for their fish and chips. The 4 of us then went into the upper deck diner for our lunch sat down, we all ordered the medium cod and chips and was so looking forward to our meal. Med cod and chips x 4 cost us a total of £ 59.60 with the drinks being extra etc etc , well I have to say the cod which we were all served was very very disappointing, it was much smaller than we were expecting, the batter was dark in colour and it was dry and crunchy and tasteless and was mainly batter and what little cod in side the batter was full of big bones, I can honestly say it was the worst fish and chips meal we had ever ordered when out. We were all so very disappointed with our meal as it didn't feel like the meals were cooked to order as the meal were not very hot at all, I have to say the whole meal tasted like the fish may have been pre cooked then put into a hot oven to keep it warm until it was ordered, the same with the chips. Very disappointing indeed and We certainly won't be returning to the upper deck diner again.

Quick coffee is all we ordered but had to wait half an hour! Ridiculous system without the obvious solution of having a dedicated barista! We had to wait for them to cook various breakfasts before they got to us. Just a quick coffee is obviously not an option here ... as was described on the website! Plus seeing dogs being fed off the floor by other customers was really unsavoury! We won't be back. The food looked really great and we had plenty of time to see people being served with it on our long wait.

Good value lunch menu- maitre de was excellent definitely went over and above in his service! Food was delicious. Dinner service was standard, my wife had an issue with her main course which was quickly replaced as was mine ( so we could eat together), definitely over and above service on that issue ! Itās a beautiful restaurant overlooking the sea - will come again for sure !

I've visited this fish and chips shop many times. Usually I would have given a better rating, but something has changed. The queue outside is normally fairly long, but the service ensures that it moves quickly. This evening, despite several staff working, everything was slow. The fish was full of bones which I haven't experienced for a while at any fish and chips shops. I started eating and immediately was pulling bone after bone out of my mouth, and the person I was with (who I'd told how good this place was) was being polite and pulling bones out of their mouth saying "I'm not that hungry, I'll just have a bit"š. To be honest, the chips were greasy. I'll caveat the above by saying that last year the fish and chips at this place were good, so perhaps just an off-day, but hopefully this isn't a permanent change! Moving on to Aldeburgh itself.....in years gone by, there was always a strict "No feeding seagulls" to keep the seafront a nice place to eat. The seafront was always tidy. This evening, there was litter all over the place. Wooden forks laying all over the floor, seagulls eating discarded chips on the pavement, empty ketchup sachets thrown on the floor etc. This is unusual for Aldeburgh and hopefully won't become a permanent problem! Prices at the Golden Galleon - Ā£24 for two medium (small and bony) cod and chips, 2 x cans of Coke, and 2 x sachets of ketchup.

The lunch menu offered Trout as a main so I ordered it, when it came it was only a very small fillet not even enough for a starter, also to much salad I was very disappointed š„ when the menu says trout one expects to get a whole fish. The grand children who were with us had children's portions which were far bigger than mine, my meal was an over priced disgrace.
