The food was reasonable ( my rare steak was medium but that’s a little nit-picking) Very pleasent waitress who sadly hadn’t been trained very well. As she didn’t have a clue what she was serving or what the menu actual was. Asked if we wanted to give a tip on payment of the bill by another member of staff, which we probably would have given a small one ( not the 30% option on the card reader) had it not been asked for. Tips are discretionary and I am happy to tip for a good experience but this wasn’t one. Has the potential and not that bad quality , but does needs improvement.

This is now actually called the Alde Cafe. I’ve been twice in the last three days. There are fancier places along the High Street, but you will not get a better meal there than you will find at the Alde. Sean is a brilliant cook who prepares every dish with both flare and a respect for tradition. It was the best fry up I have had in the last twenty years, and a welcomed alternative to the recent tendency of serving them up in thali dishes, with about a tablespoon of beans in one and a cubic centimeter of toast in another. I just had the kedgeree, which was magnificently prepared with haddock from the smokehouses along the Shingle. There are many reasons to come to ever-beautiful Aldeburgh. But I’d rank breakfast or lunch at the Alde Cafe at the very top of my list.

If you want smashed avocado on sourdough with pea shoots and other unnecessary greenery then this cafe is not for you. But if you want the best quality full English, fresh unfussy honestly presented British and local food then you’re in the right place. Always a warm welcome, seriously tasty local food, simply cooked and unpretentiously presented. Today’s special were some seriously big juicy scallops which I had with my full English and they were an inspired combination and very popular. Thanks Sean for another outstanding breakfast. Keeping consistent standards like this is a real labour of love but it shines through in the food. Lovely breakfast and not an avocado in sight. PS a ‘greasy spoon’ this is not!

On Friday 11th October, my wife and me were looking forward to our fish and chips at lunchtime. We ordered 2 medium haddock and one portion of chips. The haddock was very small and mainly batter. The cost of this meal was £25, our local chippie charges around £18 for 2 pieces of large fish and a large portion of chips. We were very disappointed as we have been eating there each time we visit. Not next time we come to Aldeburgh.

Stopped in here after a lovely walk along the sea front. We were too early for evening food but we're made to feel extremely welcome. The lady behind the bar was extremely friendly and attentive to us. When the kitchen opened one of our group has dietary requirements that meant changes to the advertised meal, again she was so knowledgeable. The food was hot and fresh and all four of us said we will be returning on our next visit. Thank you!

Despite the website indicating the lunch offer was available, in reality it wasn’t which is really poor as having made a booking we only discovered this on arrival. The food was good as usual but tried a new cider that was disappointing with a strange aftertaste

Overall we had a lovely experience, the service was good and the food delicious, particularly the scallops and the fillet steak. We did feel however, that the spiced monkfish was a little overcooked, the crème brûlée glaze was overdone and the l’escargot were served out of their shells(?).

nice spot, with seating indoors & out. Great selection of cakes/pastries and a pretty good menu with a specials board. really nice that brunch options are served all day. I gave a lower score only because we were let down a bit by service & food quality. At the till there was a little confusion as they didn't have everything i ordered - but i thought sorted out until at the table realised i had been overcharged, which they did correct after going back! The food arrived quickly and looked good - but we had 2 dishes that turned out really very salty. I'm not sure if it was just a mistake, but it spoiled the hot food.

We popped in for late morning coffee and cake and are so pleased we did as this is a delightful cafe that we have never been to before. There was an excellent choice of hot and cold drinks on offer as well as lots of varied things to eat. We had a decaf cappuccino and a chai latte, with a slice of apple cake and a slice of biscoff millionaires shortbread. Everything was delicious and really good value for money ( way cheaper than the equivalent in somewhere like Costas). The staff were all really friendly and efficient. We are definitely coming back here for lunch soon as all the lunch dishes we saw being served looked incredible.

On holiday in the local area during the xmas period and visited for a New Year’s Day lunch. Wow! We were not disappointed! Fish and chips x 2 with sausage and chips and 3 curry sauces! All for a great price and absolutely delicious. 5*, 10/10, A*
