I ate at the Fox and Hounds with my wife, her sister and brother-in-law to celebrate a family birthday. It was the first time I have eaten or visited here, as I am not a local, but my wife's sister and her husband have eaten here a few times before. The food was excellent and reasonably priced given the extensive menu, all home cooked to order and generous portions. The landlady was really friendly and helpful, quite chatty and welcoming. We all ate two courses, two of us had Sunday roasts (£15) and I ate one of the daily specials, which was lambs liver and bacon with mash and veg - tasty and a good sized serving for £14. For desserts I had the Eton Mess (it was more like a pavlova really as the meringue was in one piece and not broken up) but was large and very yummy. My wife had the upside down pineapple sponge with custard, which was large and filling. Prices for desserts were a little high (most were £8) but they were large and very nice. Car park was a bit tight for space as the pub was clearly very popular on the day we visited but we managed to squeeze in. Overall it was a really nice meal and an enjoyable experience. Very much recommended.

Wonderfully decorated and intimate inside, makes a change from the larger samey same type venues in Maldon. Food was top notch, as was the service...although the fish pie was very dry. That said, that was only one below average dish out of 12. Only thing that would put me off coming back to Haus is the extortionate wine list. Cheapest bottles start at £27-30 and a Malbec was £36 and a bottle of Sauvignon was £46. Yes, £46!!!! No bottle of wine should cost that much, this is not Kensington, it's Maldon...bring the prices down to £20-25. Until you do, I regrettably, won't be returning.

Over priced hot drinks and food.i had a Bakewell tart in a wrapper after I had eaten it realized it was out of date.why make the seating area bigger but still keep the tiny counter.now letting in dogs isn't about time eating places realize not every one wants the smell of animals while they are eating.

We have some friends staying for a long weekend. After a long journey due to traffic we thought it would nice to walk to the Fox & Hounds for some food and a drink. It was a beautiful evening so we sat outside. The pub has a large seating area at the front which is on the village green. The atmosphere was very relaxed. We went in and ordered the first round of drinks and collected the food menus. Our friends have two children who loved the menu and were very excited about ordering food. Louise came out and took our order. We were a party of six and had the following which we would highly recommend: - 3 x Johnny Cash Wagyu Burgers with Beer Battered Onion Rings and Fries with the skin on - 1 x Chicken Goujons with Chips - 1 x Chockrn Goujons with Cheesie Chips - 1 x Lamb Kabab with Rice Chris who is the amazing chef came out to check all was ok with the food. It was a big yes from everyone around the table. Everyone ate everything on their plates, even the children to the amazement of the parents. We ordered desserts. We have recently moved to the village. I felt very proud taking to the Fix and Hounds for the evening. I knew that they would love it and they did. If you live in Essex and want to visit a country pub for food and a drink on a summers evening the Fox and Hounds delivers on being in the heart of a traditional beautiful British village. Having plenty of outside seating on the village green, offering friendly and relaxed service, amazing vast food menu, amazing tasty freshly cooked to order food, and of course a full bar selection.

We were a group of 22 for a society day. The catering was excellent and timely. From Bacon Rolls and coffee on arrival to Ham Egg and Chips after. Very friendly staff, very agreeable venue

I chose Paul’s Plaice due to good reviews and also as they confirmed they were able to do gluten free fish and mentioned using rice flour. Fabulous I thought - I thought wrong! The fish had evidently been covered in rice flour alone and then deep fried - no batter in sight! What resulted was a dried up piece of fish that was basically inedible. Had I been nearer I would have returned to request my money back. How anyone could think that this is acceptable as gluten free is beyond me. Conversely the normal battered cod and chips that I ordered for the rest of my family were very nice but my review is for the gluten free option.

We visit this pub regularly as a couple & with family & friends for either…breakfast, lunch, evening meal or just a socialising drink. We have always found the atmosphere constantly welcoming with attentive friendly staff coupled with amazing food, noticeably prepared by a trained chef. The pub is also doggie friendly..added bonus to pop in after long walks with our dog. They have a great outdoor courtyard seating area to enjoy a meal/snacks or just a drink in the summer months. We would definitely recommend. It’s a true little hidden gem in the heart of a lovely quiet village setting with ample pub parking to the rear.

My wife and I visited here last night for a Birthday meal. It is a beautiful pub set in lovely location. ( plenty of parking). The staff here are really friendly and attentive but not over the top which we like. We had a set menu three course meal . This menu does vary from the main menu but there was still enough variety to choose from. My wife had goats cheese and I had Calamari for starters . Both dishes were very nice. For mains we both had the battered Haddock. I personally think it was the nicest piece of fish I have had in a long time. The desserts were large and delicious. The pub is very clean and just what you would expect from a countryside pub . Thank you to everyone who looked after us so well .

Have wanted to try here for a while. What a beautiful quaint little tradional pub with a great menu and specials. Opted for the liver & bacon as my other half doesn't like it so never make it at home. Wow. Portion huge. Fresh mash. Fresh veggies ( 5 veg!) Soo tasty! Couldn't finish it all but had it boxed up as far too good to waste. Too full for pudding but will definitely be back.

Had a lovely cream tea for two. Smoked salmon was generous in the sandwiches and tried chickpea coronation sandwiches for the first time. Absolutely delicious! Sandwiches were well filled. Scones still warm and fresh! Asked for recipe! Best of all was the host Phil! He welcomed us and gave us some info about the history of the area. Real pleasure to be served by him. Will definitely be returning and recommend.
