We all had an excellent time at the Hurdlemakers Arms, tucking into roast dinners, we each had different, beef, lamb, pork and turkey , and they definitely don’t skimp on the portions of meat. We had a great selection of vegeatables ( of which the leftovers we had boxed up to bring home) All our plates were emptied, it was all so beautifully cooked and presented. Our partners had starters of homemade soup , and homemade pate, both of which were extremely tasty, but having visited before we girls skipped the starters to allow room for the amazing roast. We finished with coffees as no room left for desserts. Nettie and Gary and the gang have great hospitality qualities, and obviously take pride in the food they serve, which is evident as a roomful of happy diners. Would definitely recommend for anyone to dine out, and we will certainly be coming back for the Christmas themed dinner as soon as we can arrange a date.

I had beer to a beer festival here in 2023 and it was recommended by a friend as a good venue for four old school friends to meet for the first time since we left school 58 years ago! Perfect choice with a perpetual range of very good beers and excellent food it would be difficult to fault it on any count. My simple lunch of ham egg and chips featured a quality of ham that I have rarely tasted and never bettered, sublime! A bold choice of word for a couple of lowly slices of ham but absolutely the right word nonetheless!!!! The place is spotlessly clean throughout and very well kept the condition belies its 400 year history. Large garden and ample easy parking excellent food and beer at very good prices, heaven!!!!

We had a late table booked and whilst it was extremely busy we were made to feel welcome and the Landlady even provided some games to keep my toddler out of mischief whilst we waited for our table to vacate. A very family friendly venue. A quaint little pub with a great array of options on the menu and all of it delicious. Generous sized portions. The team coped well despite some staffing issues. I can see why this place has won so many awards. Thanks for looking after us! We will be back!

Excellent pub food cooked freshly. Service is prompt and attentive. As the food is cooked freshly there is a little wait but this is more than worthwhile. The menu is quite extensive and reasonably priced. The pub is well decorated and comfortable, especially as those sticky tables have been replaced.

We have just left having eaten our delicious food. I had turkey roast and my partner had steak. Both meals very generous portions I couldn't eat all mine. The land lady was extremely friendly as were the other staff. We sat outside due to my anxiety but popped in to use the toilet which were extremely clean. The children's play area definitely needs scrapping or updating but apart from that would highly recommend. Yes there's a wait on food but worth the wait.

This pub had been a favourite over the years offering good food at reasonable prices. As we had the in-laws visiting in a post-Covid capacity, we felt that a revisit to this old haunt would be a safe bet for lunch. This would have been our first lunch trip at the pub, and unfortunately it has left a very poor opinion of the establishment - thinking that perhaps we had a better memory than the actual. The owner unfortunately has a persona that is not friendly or welcoming, you are made to feel like your are inconveniencing them, by your attendance. The tables had a sticky hue to them, fortunately one of the post-COVID, benefits is that we carry a bag of antibacterial wipes, which made it fresher - but should the establishment not take care of this??Service was slow and the food came at a glacial pace that would have made a sloth happy - considering the pub wasn't full or overly busy, it seems strange that our order clearly caused confusion - what challenging items did we have, you may wonder....Three different baguettes, a portion of chips and a Jacket potato with Chilli. The baguettes were ok, the chips are superb, but that is where it stops, the Jacket potato was nicely cooked, but the amount of Chilli was poor, if you inhaled too quickly you would have 'hoovered' it off the plate, in-fact the two pre-packed butter portions had more volume than the chilli - and we waited almost 90 minutes for this. Overall, the experience was far from what we remembered and it feels like this is one visit that should have been confined to a memory........For the benefit of doubt it could be that they are slow to adapt to reopening post COVID however, being under same management, I am not convinced of this rose tinted view.

Met friends here for lunch. Had heard good reports about this place but have to say we were a little disappointed. We sat outside and although there are under cover areas in case of rain these as well as the garden area in general looked like they could do with some TLC. The food service was slow but the food in general was OK. They have a full and varied menu. Didn't find the staff particularly welcoming and is not high on my list to return.

Very large garden with plenty of outdoor seating including tents and pods in case of rain.Outdoor play equipment for kids. We had fairly enjoyable food when it finally arrived - Half an hour for two items that required no cooking was just too long, especially as they were not very busy. Cheese Ploughmans - Not enough bread or butter (until I requested more of the latter) and No dressing on the salad. Hence poor value rating.

I’ve been here twice in the last few weeks. The first I came with a friend, it was a sunny Saturday evening & I expected it to be really busy, but there weren’t many people there which I thought was odd. I ordered olives as a starter & my friend didn’t have a starter. I was asked if i wanted the starter first or everything altogether, so I said I wanted the starter first & the mains to follow. We then waited over an hour for our mains, I went inside to ask if our meals had been forgotten & was told they hadn’t been forgotten, it’s just the waiting staff hadn’t told the kitchen we’d finished our starters. Not sure how long likely to take for one person so consume a few olives? The food was ok, nothing to write home about - but the service was very slow despite being practically empty. I then decided to give it another chance & take the kids, they had a lovely time playing in the garden & I was pleased that they don’t deep fry the kids fish fingers, but the roasts were pretty gross. A kids roast consisted of a piece of chicken on the bone with skin on, rock hard roast potatoes, an anemic looking sausage, some stuffing, a Yorkshire & but no veg! It was a nice evening, nice to go somewhere where the kids can play & we could have a meal & a quiet drink. Again the place was practically empty, the food was ok - it’s somewhere that’s ok for a relaxed bite to eat & for the kids to play, but I wouldn’t go back in the winter months. We had to wait over an hour for our food again on our second visit. I know pubs are struggling at the moment with shortages of staff etc - & I like supporting local businesses, but when the place is close to empty I do wonder how on earth they’d cope with a few more customers. It would be a disaster!

Was there earlier today, for a family lunch. Arrived at 1pm, didn’t get away until nearly 5pm. Service really was so, so slow. Menu was fine - provided you wanted a roast lunch. Portions were huge - loads wasted, but not all that cheap. Quality was frankly poor. Okay if you’re happy to spend a long, slow afternoon stuffing yourself with stodge, otherwise one to avoid

My family and I have just had the best roast dinner for a very long time. We sat in a pod under a lovely heater 6 adults and my 2 grandchildren. The food and service was brilliant. Our dinner was pipping hot and we asked for extra Yorkshire puddings & gravy which was no trouble at all. They bought my 2 year old granddaughters dinner out with our starters so she didn’t have to wait. I cannot fault anything every member of staff had a smile and were so friendly. Where do l begin!! My husband and l arrived at the Hurdlemakers at 2.10 pm yesterday - and asked if there was a table for two - young girl said that they were very busy - but yes they could accommodate us - (l looked round and saw several empty tables!) - we sat down with our drinks - and looked at the menu - we both ordered jacket potatoes - we waited and waited - No one came to apologise for the long wait - 3.15pm came and went - My husband then went to the bar and spoke to the girl - who said that they were just doing our meal now - aren't these youngsters capable of multi-tasking??? We said that we would pay for the drinks but would not be hanging around for the jacket potatoes - as we were leaving another couple told us that they to were not happy with their meals either - so our advise is best to phone before going to see if the owners are on holiday and if so avoid the Hurdlemakers like the plague!! - or get new staff - as this lot were not interested in their job or close down until the owners arrive back!!! That said you cannot fault the Sunday Roast - it is superb - that of course is when the owners are in residence!!! .

Hungry on our way home from an event, we googled nearby pub/restaurants The Hurdle makers Arms was the closest. What a find!! You know a place is good when there’s a lot of cars in the car park, which there was but there’s plenty of parking (on grass out the back). The pub/restaurant was small and homey, every single table inside was either occupied or reserved, with a 60 minute wait for a table!!! But we served immediately and we were so hungry we went for the 40 minute garden table option, we got drinks and settled down on one of the wooden benches in the gardens, and here is the part that lets the place down, it’s less of a garden and more of a grassy area with some lovely trees and tired play equipment (not that the happy children seemed to care) there’s nothing wrong with it but it could be better, which is the only reason I’ve not given them full star rating. The best part though is the food! Omg, there was so much of it and everything was so good. We all had the burger and chips, it came with a really good amount of really fresh tasty salad and a a ramekin of salsa sauce/relish everything on the plate was lovely, and really good value for money. As roast dinners and other plates of lunch went by it looked like the same could be said across the menu. The staff were cheery and helpful, in short we could not have made a better choice and if we were in the area again we would absolutely visit again and not hesitate to recommend it to friends and family.

Great little country pub hardy changed from when I visited in my 20s now 55 years old. Beer good and food was fantastic. Big car park out back. Will be returning again as live about 10 mins away in the car. Also a good thing was they had a Gluten Free menu for my girlfriend who happens to be Veggie, Gluten Free and Dairy Free and still managed to eat off their Menu.

Great traditional country pub. Great food and a good selection of real ales. Friendly staff a always a warm welcome. I moved recently and I’m now well out of the area but i’ll continue to travel back as it’s well worth the effort. They have barbecues and beer festivals in the summer and several clubs hold meets there (classic bikes/cars etc) The quiz nights are good fun and it’s the kind of place you can go if you’ve on your own. I would recommend a visit, you won’t be disappointed

I called up on Friday and by a long shot asked if they had a table for 17 people for today (2 days after I called) as I was arranging a surprise birthday meal for my mothers birthday and my previous plan had not worked out! The man I spoke to on the phone was so nice and helpful and said he did not have any tables in the restaurant but had space in the function room and said we would be able to sit in there ! When we arrived the barn was decorated so nicely they had put banners up for us and put confetti on the table! We all had such a lovely time the food was delicious and the staff was all so friendly and helpful I will most definitely be returning! I would definitely recommend guys ! Thank you to hurdle makers for making my mums birthday so special !

Two couples for lunch. We arrived early, literally as they were opening at 12. A warm welcome, blazing fire, and delicious looking specials board being hand written greeted us.

We came here for Sunday lunch a few weeks back, it was delightful. First the starters were brilliant prawn cocktail and the pate. Next came our fabulous roasts my beef and my husbands pork, both came with two Yorkshire's and gravy then two dishes of vegetables each lot's of everything. Myself as well as my Husband both love gravy and drown our dinners we asked for a bit more gravy before tucking in to those wonderful meals and out came two gravy boats each. All was great and we cleared our plates. Lovely pub and lovely staff. Well worth any waiting for properly cooked meal's. Take no notice of the moaners about waiting, they just like moaning. Also do great veggie meal's we've come here with our friend's and they are lovely. Well done everybody. ☺

This was the first time that we had eaten here and we were impressed. It’s a “typical”country pub with plenty of parking at the rear. We went on a Saturday evening and apart from our table it was packed. The table wasn’t big, but it was big enough for us 4. Our order was taken quickly but we were warned that they were busy and there might be a bit of a wait. But all the food was well worth waiting for (patè was really nice as was the crumble). The portions were big and everything was really nice. Not a single complaint from any of us and very reasonably priced. The staff were really friendly and we will be returning. I hope this review is helpful.

Not our first visit to Hurdlemakers Arms, but it continues to impress us. Today we visited with friends for a pre xmas lunch,as usual we received a warm welcome , the menu was varied, with an additional specials board .We all chose a roast dinner with all the trimmings. We were not disappointed, the portions were extremely plentiful and the food was delicious. We enjoyed banter with the staff, all in all a most enjoyable occasion. Highly recommend the Hurdlemakers Arms. F.YI. There is plenty of parking to the rear of the premises.

So to be clear, I am a big fan of this place and the food is amazing. The wait time for your food can be very long and the tables are a bit squeezed in so not good if you like space around you. My main tips, avoid the table in the bar area and book for the start of lunch or dinner service to minimise the wait times.

A very quaint pub/restaurant with very friendly staff who know their job and are very good at it too. Plenty of time in between courses and not in any way rushed to be served or eat and leave unlike some commercial high street restaurants, it's a steady pace and I for liked that as it adds to the relaxed ambience.

We regularly visit as we have always found the food to be superb and so booked a table to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was up to its usual standard but the service was so slow it detracted from what should have been a lovely evening. Nearly 2 1/2 hours for two courses was a bit excessive (and there were very few diners) combined with how cold the pub was (the door was propped open with a barrel all evening) will make us reconsider where we go next time even though it is very local too us. Disappointing:(

We were strangers to the area and visited the Hurdlemakers on the back of good reviews. This is a good old fashioned, traditional country pub with all the atmosphere one would expect and hope for. Friendly service from a good humoured lady behind the bar. An amazingly extensive menu for such a modest outlet, but an hour's wait for food when there were only 21 diners all evening (we were forth to order) took the edge off our enjoyment and we were almost past it when it eventually arrived, and it's not as if we had ordered anything particularly demanding to prepare. We think that the menu could be half the size and still provide ample choice and then perhaps the wait might be a little more reasonable. It seems that the owners are proud to offer such choice but sometimes discretion is the better part of valour. So, give the Hurdlemakers a go but maybe don't be too hungry to start with. I can recommend the South African chardonnay to make the wait for food more bearable.

Upon arrival we were immediately shown to our table and our drinks order taken...drinks arrived promptly. Luckily we had been forewarned that there would be a lengthy wait for our food so no problem with that (we waited around 40mins from ordering). The food was OK but nothing special. My scampi and chips were very average and my wife's jacket potato "tasted a little odd ". Our friends fared much better with a lamb roast which was deemed "very tasty" and liver and onion which was also "good". We passed on pudding, and total bill excluding tip was just over £50....about right given the slow (albeit very friendly) service and average food.

We have eaten here several times. The service is great and the food is excellent. Yes there can be a LONG wait for food as it is freshly prepared and (note to the moaners on here) this is made VERY CLEAR but I can assure you it is well worth it and portions are huge. The place is very welcoming and the owners are always lovely and friendly. Will definitely be back very soon.

Not been here for over 30 years, met some friends who live a couple of miles away from the pub. Excellent food & beer served by extremely friendly staff. My wife said her Caesar's salad was the best she has had in a pub for a long time. Will certainly return.

So we booked here for 8pm. Table was ready on arrival, sat down and within a few mins were asked for drinks which was great. That was where it stopped for me! It was a further 20 mins before any menus were brought over and within a couple of mins we were asked if we're ready to order! We eventually got to order our starters and mains but it was an hour before the starters came out! We ate the mains at gone 10 o'clock! We had to ask for more drinks a couple of times before we got them! In there nearly 3 hours for 2 courses! Lady with blonde hair was nice but can't recall her name, she wasn't looking after our table but had to correct the mistakes made by the other staff.

Should stay open til 4:00pm if it says it’s open til 4:00pm. We turned up at 3:45pm and they wouldn’t even serve us a takeaway cup of tea. All the staff were out and locked up well before the advertised closing time. Poor show.

This is a lovely little tea rooms and garden coupled together with an antique shop. You can either sit inside amongst all the antiques that are for sale or sit outside in a very pleasant cottage type garden. It is a little like stepping back in time with hot drinks served in bone china cups and saucers. Reasonably priced and well worth a look if in the area.

Outrageous prices. A cup of coffee at almost £4 which tasted of water not coffee. A glass of wine £15 !!!! Won’t be rushing back
