I ate at the Fox and Hounds with my wife, her sister and brother-in-law to celebrate a family birthday. It was the first time I have eaten or visited here, as I am not a local, but my wife's sister and her husband have eaten here a few times before. The food was excellent and reasonably priced given the extensive menu, all home cooked to order and generous portions. The landlady was really friendly and helpful, quite chatty and welcoming. We all ate two courses, two of us had Sunday roasts (£15) and I ate one of the daily specials, which was lambs liver and bacon with mash and veg - tasty and a good sized serving for £14. For desserts I had the Eton Mess (it was more like a pavlova really as the meringue was in one piece and not broken up) but was large and very yummy. My wife had the upside down pineapple sponge with custard, which was large and filling. Prices for desserts were a little high (most were £8) but they were large and very nice. Car park was a bit tight for space as the pub was clearly very popular on the day we visited but we managed to squeeze in. Overall it was a really nice meal and an enjoyable experience. Very much recommended.

We had the loveliest time here today! A table of 9 booked in, last minute. We had a few issues with the online booking system, but once we dropped an email we got a very swift and extremely friendly response, confirming our reservation. 5 adults and 4 children of varied ages. Staff were all incredibly welcoming and professional, especially Josh who was our main server. He went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were attended too, even offering to take a coffee order for us after our meal and bringing them to us in the outdoor area so we could relax in the sun. Food was fantastic. We ordered a range of meals and everybody was impressed with starters, mains and desserts. A great choice of food, from regular country pub fare to more varied twists on classics. Everything cooked from fresh and to a high standard. The children’s menu was especially of note. Very child friendly choices but still high quality food, generous portions (even for an older child) and the range of desserts was excellent. They were spoiled for choice and couldn’t believe their eyes when the food arrived. Having worked in the hospitality sector myself for quite some years, I’m quite particular. It was so lovely to have our expectations blown away and to enjoy such a relaxed and pleasant afternoon being so well looked after. A big thanks to the whole team, including the chefs.

Went on a Saturday afternoon with friends for a late lunch. We each had a different main meal but all were excellent and plentiful. Staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The apple pie/danish with ice cream was excellent as well. Empty plates all round apart from what we couldnt manage. Would definitely recommend this pub in a nice quiet location with excellent food.

We happened accross this lovely pub a month or so ago and have been back at least 6 times since, it's a warm cosy place and we were greeted by staff member Wendy who is a delight !!!!....we have since ordered several different (HOME COOKED) dishes and I have to say the food is really top notch and plentiful, I can't really find any fault with this place as it is all one would hope for in a country pub plus the prices are much lower than most places we visit, great to visit for dinner, lunch and even a coffee and a chat, very dog friendly, we actually drive from Leigh on Sea as it's better than most pubs we live near, we are so pleased we found The Fox and Hounds and thank to you all there for your friendliness, service and great food.....see you all soon....

Stopped off here for a pit stop on our way to Mayland. We received a friendly greeting from the bar maid who was interested in our T-shirts which showed that we were walking for Alzheimer's. We relaxed in the beer garden before getting on our way but we promised ourselves that we would be back soon.

Enjoyed a lovely meal here yesterday. The menu offers a wide choice to cater for everyone, including vegetarian and vegan. We tried a different starter each, whitebait, chicken strips and garlic bread with Brie. The whitebait and chicken were quite full plates! For the main course we ordered the ribeye steak and cod and chips. The food arrived very promptly and the waitress was very attentive. The food was perfectly cooked and there were no leftovers, always a good sign! The male family members enjoyed the Mighty Oak bitter while I had the Pinot. A good location and value for money. Definitely worth a visit.

We ate here last night and the meal we had was enjoyable. It was nice pub fayre. The staff were all good, friendly and efficient. Best of all though was the entertainment. Sarah, the singer, was excellent and we hope to see her at the Fox & Hounds again very soon.

Met with friends for lunch & took advantage of special lunch meal deal 2 courses for £10.00 (3 for £12.00). Reasonable value for money in pleasant environment. Waitress was friendly & food freshly prepared & quite acceptable. Ladies loos were clean enough but very dismal!

We went for a meal on a Saturday evening as were very impressed. Part of the attraction was the reputed quality of the beer, but when I received my pint it was past its best. However, the landlord offered me a sample of an alternative before changing the cask to produce a superb pint. The food matched the beer, with an interesting selection on the menu and a really nice meal when we had chosen.I thought that we made a great choice.

Visited this charming pub today for Sunday lunch. Atmosphere lovely, service excellent, very reasonable and cool despite the temperature outside. This is such a friendly pub but few people were eating as it is a little out of the way. Well worth a visit. Superb lunch, good menu and an enjoyable afternoon.

The food here is nice enough pub grub but given the remote location it needs to be amazing as it will never have enough footfall to make decent money. Seen it taken over a few times in the 20 years I've lived nearby. Owners need to give people a reason to get in their car and drive there. The Royal Oak which used to be up the road in Woodham Walter is now a curry house. After a refit a lot of people went there initially then lost interest. I fear the same will happen here.

We visited for Sunday Lunch. Oh dear what a mistake that was. We both ordered beef which so overcooked and dry, vegetables have been boiled to death and the gravy smelt off. I did bring this to the attention of the waitress who then went back to the kitchen to talk to the chef, apparently the Landlord whose feedback was there was nothing wrong with the food. I have since read some of the comments below and realise that this pub probably wont be open long - Stay away - don't wast your money and be careful of the dog foul on the patio.

We found this pub on the website and read it had been taken over by new management and been refurbished. There are not many pubs like this about anymore "such a shame". We visited Saturday evening and was not disappointed the food was lovely plenty of it and very tasty, portions are quite big but that's not a complaint, but next time we will save room for deserts. The land lord and land lady are very nice and welcoming they take the time to chat to you. The pub is a little way out but really worth going to and reasonably priced, you can have a 3 course meal with bottle of wine for 2 for £45 if you want. there are specials on the board as well as full menu. We will definitely go back again.

The CAMRA's whatpub & TripAdvisor's sites guided us to this inn. It had been under new management since February so that one could discount all the reviews prior to that date as being irrelevant for any first time visitor. (Why aren't out-of-date reviews removed, and sour grapes ones too?)

The new business owners / management of this traditional English pub have certainly kicked the year off to a flying start.....total refit and facelift, with an excellent choice on the menu of 'home cooked food'........ Now living locally for the last 10 years I do not want to sound biased (and we are spoilt in the area for pubs to eat in) ...but I must say the food, service and management style are second to none in this fine old pub.

New Management opened on Tuesday 21st February and started serving food on Saturday 25th Feb 2017. Six of us went for lunch and found the food excellent, just what we want in food in a pub!It was nicely presented, well cooked, enough of it and very reasonable at £12 for 2 courses and £14 for three courses. The chocolate brownie was to die for!Ok its not fine dining, thank goodness, but real food at sensible prices. Oh by the way the beer was great too! There were several lagers, but also Doom Bar and Broadside for those preferring the good old fashioned Bitter/Ale.Highly Recommended and booking may become essential as it was fairly busy and only opened for food the day before our visit! It wont be long before you'll have to book a week ahead!!

New management at this pub have totally transformed the place. It is now spotless, bright and tastefully decorated. The food is very reasonable and good quality the beer is looked after properly especially the real ales. The opening hours are now what you what expect from a public house and the new landlords are both welcoming and professional. The new Fox and Hounds will be at the heart of the village community and a great place for people visiting the countryside or Stow Marie's WW1 airdrome to stop for a bite.

We have visited the Fox and Hounds pub a number of times since moving to the area. We have always found everyone including the regulars really friendly and welcoming and we have quickly got to know many of them. Whilst food is only available at certain times and days to meet trading patterns it is lovely and very popular for Sunday lunch. The decor inside is lovely and the landlord and landlady have done a great deal to bring this local back to life after it was closed.

Although not booked, staff were able to fit us in with a smile, really helpful, cheerful,Restaurant really busy ( never dreamed it would be on a Wednesday) and it was 6.00pm. Very popular with local people. Lots to choose from and 2/3 course special menu as well. Starters arrived really quickly, as did mains, the gooseberry and ginger crumble was divine. Need to go back next week and taste something else on the menu.Nice thing is you could go every night and not eat the same thing twice. Few unusual dishes too.

This is my favourite place in Maldon! The atmosphere and and service make it such an intimate experience. It is the perfect place to meet friends - although I will I come here with my family, my husband and love taking my six-year-old niece for breakfast dates. The team and owner, Mario, are so welcoming and friendly. I will often come here for a coffee by myself and just sit for an hour or so taking some time for me. The coffee is phenomenal. There is not a place like it nearby, the diverse menu options cater for everyone. And the Tapas! Wow! There is not a thing I do not like on the menu and the fact that it is varied for seasons and holidays means that you can have a different experience every time. I cannot recommend Driftwood high enough. It is my go to place and if you haven’t tried it, you really should! Perfect for casual dining and special occasions.

Popped to Le Bouchon for our 20th wedding anniversary dinner yesterday. We have eaten here many times before and have always found it to be very good but last night’s meal (7 course tasting menu) was EXCEPTIONAL with each course being truly excellent! My husband is a retired chef (was a very good one) so naturally he is a bit of a foodie critic and can be particular! We both agree it was one of the best meals of our lives and we eat out a lot, lol!!! What a treat and on such a wonderful occasion! Thanks team, wonderful evening, food and service x

Popped there on a sunny Saturday afternoon for something to eat and was not disappointed. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was lovely. £100 for 4 of us with 2 rounds of drinks and also 2 starters so not bad. The only negative was the waitress didn’t write down our order and they delivered us a burger instead of the cod & chips but this was quickly rectified!

We visit this pub regularly as a couple & with family & friends for either…breakfast, lunch, evening meal or just a socialising drink. We have always found the atmosphere constantly welcoming with attentive friendly staff coupled with amazing food, noticeably prepared by a trained chef. The pub is also doggie friendly..added bonus to pop in after long walks with our dog. They have a great outdoor courtyard seating area to enjoy a meal/snacks or just a drink in the summer months. We would definitely recommend. It’s a true little hidden gem in the heart of a lovely quiet village setting with ample pub parking to the rear.
