The best restaurants serving British food in Basildon East of England

Visited with my children and parents. Food was good, served quickly, hot & delicious. Service was excellent, the waitresses are very friendly and efficient. Unfortunately the man cooking who I can only assume is the owner was absolutely disgusting to his staff. The manner in which he talks to the girls is shameful, it was uncomfortable to sit and eat my food having to listen to him shout & belittle the them. I will not be returning.

We had a toasted bacon sandwich and tea. Jacket potato with chesse and beans .black coffee And both enjoyed it potato was full of flavour with small side salad.staff were pleasent Been here a few times and always enjoy

Arrived with high expectations left very disappointed . Starter was ok but our main course was very poor . We ordered ox cheek pasta ragu at £17 a portion . We had difficulty finding the ox cheek buried under the pasta ,three small lumps of meat . It was barely warm , the pasta was undercooked and cool and the braised broccali ordered as a side was also cold .All served on cool plates . I am afraid we sent it back and left . We were told it had all bee cooked at 68 degrees but by the time it reached us it was no where near that .

Nice new pub, plus beer garden. Seems to have a restaurant attached, but haven't had chance to try the food. Plenty of parking. I'd like to try some food. Good selection of beers and spirits. Recommend a visit.

Food is lovely, always fast, price not bad But biggest asset to this business is waitress Shelly, she is always so friendly, chatty and happy Seems like she loves her job which is so lovely to see Shelly needs a pay rise

Lovely lunch here with friends today. Excellent food and service. Our waitress called Donna was very friendly and helpful, nothing seemed too much trouble . Have used this restaurant a lot over the years and always had a positive experience. Will be returning again soon. Thank you!

Absolutely gutted this has shut for good! Been drinking here on and off for 17 years. Staff come and go with new ideas and new rules but at the end of the day the regulars make it good along with a mixture of your desirables next door, some with whom I've enjoyed a few drinks with and some the current staff kept in check!! Will miss the bike nights and all the car meets!!! Such a shame the legendary Harrow pub, we all now know as the Dick Turpin, has come to an end! Yet another great British pub moving on for cash reasons. I'm really disappointed with Greene King. It's sad to drive past now to see it boarded up with concrete blocks on the perimeter, making it look like a prison! I hope this is a painless transition....thanks to all the accommodating staff that are now looking for work. 😓

Great atmosphere, great staff & always great service...the sunday roast is always a fave of mine & would wholeheartedly recommend a visit..the only thing I would say is dont bother with extra roast potatoes as we paid £4.25 & ended up with 4 potatos! There is always more gravy needed so I would suggest a more filled pot but the staff are always happy to get extra for you

A very Very nice pub really good breakfast and exceptionally clean toilets I would come again if I was in the area for breakfast or lunch

Absolutely disappointed 6 meals all come out wrong chikds pizza burnt no chips Adult pizza wrong toppings Burger wrong components Must have called staff back at least 5 times for then to be given a bowl of chips 7 in fact cost £4 Took back to grill area for chef to become rude and intimidating and tell me if I dont like it don't come back Disgusting service and behaviour Need new manager urgently

Very good meal in the Downham Arms, two meals for £11.99 was excellent value. The drinks were reasonable and the staff were friendly.

Quick bite to eat with my son and 2 of his mates. They had burgers cooked lovely served fast and hot. I had chicken salad lovely and fresh. Katie was our waitress and was very helpful

First time we went the toasties were brilliant, since then we have tried to go in on 3 different Sundays with family in which they have not had gluten free bread. Unfortunately we won’t be returning anymore, allergies should be catered for throughout everyday of the week 😞
