The Dukes Head in Basildon

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at the Dukes Head on Mother’s Day. Chef Georgi truly went above and beyond—every dish was perfectly prepared and full of flavor. The attention to detail and care put into the meal made the day feel even more special. Excellent service all around, and a big thank you to Chef Georgi for making it such a wonderful experience!

Came in for the Mother’s Day menu and I have to say what an amazing experience we had. It made my mums night. I can’t thank Nat and Donna enough for last night they were amazing! Perfect service from entrance of the establishment to the minute we left

Chicken burger served stone cold then replaced with a hard textured chicken breast not nice whole experience ruined by people then going in and out to the garden area and the door slamming all night then to be told by the waitress our 2 hour time slot was over but you can get a drink at the bar after just finishing our sweet nice way to make more money your popularity and business won,t last long with an attitude to its customers like this .and just one more thing car parking is not adequate

Came in for Mother’s Day and got served by the lovely Donna! She was so helpful and gave us the best service we’ve had in a very very long time! Thankyou Donna for making our evening

Went for a birthday meal with a group of friends and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. Food tasted great with a variety of options on the menu.

I came across Dukes Head when attending a networking event there...what a great find! It is in a lovely setting, with lots of outdoor seating and plenty of parking on site too. The staff are always really helpful, especially Donna who has served me the most. Nothing is too much trouble and really friendly. The food is delicious and really good sized portions. Whether you're looking for somewhere for a function, lunch with a friend or business meeting...it really does offer it all.

Lovely sunny lunch in the garden. Great service and couldn’t fault the food. Look forward to visiting again soon.

Disapointing visit to Dukes Head, had someone with me with an allergy, but staff didnt seem to be really aware of importance of this, very little on menu to choose. Even after staff speaking to Chef meal still came out incorrect.

We visited on Sunday March the 3rd with a party of 16 for my mums 90 th birthday.The location of table and the staff were fantastic the food was amazing and the whole afternoon was perfect was a little worried as I no pub gets busy and we was a large group but not an issue at all would definitely recommend

First time visiting this place - went for the specials - octopus starter with a stunning romesco sauce - oven baked skate wing amazing- Sicilian lemon tart (pictured) with intense lemon sauce- service great and probably the best meal I’ve had in the Billericay area in years - this venue is well worth a visit

The staff are very friendly in the dukes head, the atmosphere was very relaxed and we weren't rushed when eating. The dukes head is also dog friendly and if you have a blue light card it is accepted. When we went it was Feb so we sat inside but they have two outside lovley looking seating areas one where you can sit and eat and one just for drinks i would highly recommend

Food was great apart from the Mac and Cheese, it was vile. No flavour and charged me £6 for the privilege

We came today to try a Sunday Roast and it did not disappoint. Service was amazing thank you so much to Bobbie for accommodating us, food was excellent we will definitely be back!

The staff were helpful. Brought out a birthday cake without being reminded. They were patient and brought out our meals at the same time. The only area for improvement would be to pay more attention to people wanting to order drinks. We had to search out the staff a couple of times.

The car park was extremely busy ( Sunday ) & didn’t seem big enough for the size of the guests visiting the restaurant. Plus, dodge the massive pot holes too! We had pre booked. Our waitress who took our order was nice. Our starters came out & all were very nice, I had the mushroom dish which was in a rich sauce & was very nice. Main I had fish & chips, the fish was nice. The chips were like small potato wedges & not great, rather dry. The pot of green “peas” were dry & hard. A few of us ordered dessert which we eventually had to enquire as to when it would arrive as we’d waited some time. I think it had been forgotten as 3 waiting staff bought them out together within a minute of us asking. The crème brûlée was in a small tea cup, not enough for a man. Every one else enjoyed their desserts. It’s a busy restaurant and the staff were all friendly. I just felt underwhelmed with some of the food. I wouldn’t rule it out not going again, but maybe not on a Sunday !

The food is excellent, the pub itself is really welcoming and tables are nicely spaced out. We really enjoyed our Sunday roast, everything was cooked beautifully and the staff are really friendly and were very accommodating of my toddler, will definitely be back!

Order was made at 5.30 for delivery around 6.30, however delivery did not happen until 7.48.

Excellent food a bit more beef would have been nice

Food returned vegetarian banana stew was awful greasy not edible had to return and wanted to charge 20 quid. Replacement pizza was dry hardly any cheese!!! For 3 cheese pizza poor food for price. Cod and chips not great either barely edible. Will not be returning

Visiting from America and this is my go to place!! The food and service are outstanding. Donna was extremely personable and went out of her way to make my boyfriend’s birthday special. Gorgeous food with nice presentation. We sat by the fire which was lovely but even in the summer they have a great outdoor area. Service by Donna was friendly and attentive. Good price range for the quality of food.

My favourite restaurant .... the food is amazing! The staff are so attentive, the pub has such a lovely atmosphere and love the roaring fire. The Sunday Roast is the best I have had with huge portions and nothing is too much trouble. I have sat in the restaurant, conservatory and bar area and love it. It has a dog friendly bar area too. Natalie, Megan, Harley, Georgie and the rest of the team work so hard. My dad is gluten intolerant, and they make sure he is well catered for with lots of options that he can have. I can't wait to return.

Fries were overcooked and the oil didn't taste fresh, prime cheeseburger was dry and tasteless, pickles were bland and overall very disappointed with the food. We moved table due to a funny smell although I didn't notice it half the table did, prior to moving I had to use my phone torch to read the menu as it was so dark and dingy and I couldn't see the writing. The second table was better lit. Finally the bill was very confusing with a separate item called 'wet' which the manager could not explain what it was but it was correct. The rest of the party had mixed reviews about their food but personally I will not return.

We went before Christmas 15 of us. Took time to get drink or food. Our food had to be pre ordered. It was cold 🥶 not very nice. Would not recommend it. Personally wouldn't go back. Service was slow. No even music in background. Felt like cold atmosphere . Had to ask for Water about 3 times than we gave up. Waitress was not attentive...waisted time.. not organised. Sorry but I do not have anything positive to say.

Visited with family on Christmas Day, wonderful food and service. The fillet of beef Wellington was sublime.

Thanks to the whole team at the Dukes Head for a brilliant Christmas Day lunch. Food was amazing - enjoyed a break from cooking. Lots of it too. Service was superb, thanks to all of the brilliant staff (in particular our waitress Daisy) who worked on Christmas Day when they could have been at home with their families. They deserve extra credit for the smiles and making it special for their guests.

It was as a very busy Boxing Day for everyone. Service was a little slower than usual but our waitresses kept smiling as they soldiered on! Our food was very nice and we thought overall it was very good value too. We live just up the road so the Dukes Head is our ‘local’ and it’s nice for us to support their business.

Family of 4 for Christmas Day. Arrived on time to be ignored by at least 4 members of staff before being told ‘2 minutes’. Once booking confirmed, waitress went into the restaurant and came back to say have a drink at the bar whilst they reset our table. Bar man very abrupt and rude. 40 minutes later, no communication, i chased up our table (as children getting hungry) to be told to go to a table in the bar area, (our booking was for the restaurant, and when questioned, i was told everywhere is the restaurant today). The table we were taken to was set up for 3 people and was dirty. Asked for table to be cleaned and for an extra place to be made and cracker ! Waited 20minutes between each course. Did not complain once… but the manager had cottoned on to the poor service we received and took our drinks off the bill. Food was average. Bitterly disappointed.

I'm never happy with their drinks, if you go off "standard"no one knows how to make what you want and £2.25 for a shot of f blackcurrant cordial when you're spending £220 seems a bit rich. My suggestion is stay with their tap beers or wines or be prepared to be disappointed.

*Banging “dirty burger”! Best burger outside of London. Good service too. * Edit 6/12/24. Dirty burger very disappointing. That’s twice now the foods been terrible. No more chances. Edit. 14/08/22. Popped in for some lunch. Ordered the usual, Dirty Burger for me and the Nourishment salad bowl for the wife. We had to send the salad back no less than three times. Items missing, items poorly cooked, then third time dirty unpeeled vegetables and added items not on the menu that she couldnt eat. We advised the staff my wife was pregnant, at ordering, that she couldn’t eat certain items, to bring a salad out with unwashed vegetables and high risk foods is unforgivable! Management was as useless as the kitchen. The poor waitress came out and advised we wouldn’t be charged for the salad - to darn right! Lunch totally ruined. Didn’t even offer to comp’ her soft drink. Will not be returning after this fiasco. Utter shambles putting my wife’s health at risk. 5 star to a 1 star. Shame.

Went for Sunday lunch with 11 family members and every single person was very complimentary about the food. This was a first visit for everyone and we all said we would definitely be returning. The staff were all friendly and helpful.

A yearly Christmas lunch, 5 ladies, I use that word loosely! We would like to thank the team for taking great care of us, especially to Shannon and Bobby, nothing was too much for them, we were served quickly, given time between courses, and felt very looked after. Food was great as was the beautiful Christmas atmosphere, we were grateful however, when we requested that the fire was not replenished as we got quite warm! All in all, a wonderful afternoon, thank you

Turned up 5 minutes early and was asked to take a seat at the bar as the table was not ready, waited 45 minutes with the people that was suppose to seat us looking at us probably wondering why we had empty glass sitting there . Ruined me and my sons evening meal such a shame as I always recommend this to people that ask but that won’t be no more

Beautiful place to sit with a nice glass of wine, especially when the fire is on. With the added bonus of very lovely and helpful staff. Daisy serves us generally and she is a star.

We had our wedding reception in the private room and it finished off the perfect day, the staff were amazing and the food was amazing, we really can’t thank everyone at the pub enough, they went above and beyond.

Overall lovely place for a quiet meal or few drinks with pals. Definitely would come back! I'd like to give a special shout put to Harley, we felt very looked after, and had a wonderful night all the more for it! Highly recommend!

From the moment we sat down, she was attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. She greeted us with a warm smile, took the time to answer our questions, and made some great recommendations that we ended up loving! She was always one step ahead, making sure our drinks were refilled and checking in just the right amount without being overbearing. You could tell she genuinely cared about making sure we enjoyed our meal. Her positive energy really made the whole dining experience better. To top it all off, she remembered little details, like my friend’s food allergy, which made us feel valued and comfortable. It’s rare to find someone who goes above and beyond like she did. If you’re dining here, I’d definitely recommend asking to be seated in her section if possible. She’s a true gem!

We went along for a Sunday roast - couldn’t fault the service , greeted by a lovely young waitress called Daisy , she prompty showed us to our table and got us settled with drinks . Food was served quickly and was very nice . The roast had a good selection of vegetables , ample meat and a giant Yorkshire pudding . All in all The Dukes head was a great find 🥰

Went for evening meal and found it to be very clean and friendly. Food was very good was served by Harley and I never found a more friendly and cheerful guy. Made my evening. Will be back.

Harleigh is a great manger at the pub. Harleigh makes everyone feel welcome.and Natalie and Megan are superb and the only thing is the car park needs re doing with pot holes
