We came here for some food during the jubilee and the food was nice but the toilets were awful, the sanitary bin in the ladies was overflowing onto the floor, tissue everywhere and it smelt nasty. There was no toilet roll in either toilet. Mens toilets just as dirty.

Ordered 1 cod and 1 haddock with chips. Very disappointing. . The batter was stodgy and the fish was dry. Also the chips was just warm and greasy. Phoned up and was told sorry. Waste of £20. Won’t be going there again.

We arranged to meet some friends on the 6th of June 24 for "Burger night" My friends had booked a table for 7 PM. When we arrived some tables had reserved notices on them so until we were able to speak to a member of staff about our booking we went to sit at a table that wasn't reserved to have a drink until our friends arrived. Just as we were about to sit down we were told abruptly by the landlord " No No you can't sit there" . I told him we have a booking to which he replied "let me clear this table and I'll check" He seemed very stressed and there was no feeling of us being welcome at all. In fact I felt like we were an inconvenience. He then said to some other people "sit here before it goes" and seated them at the table that he was clearing. This left us standing in the middle of the pub feeling most unwelcome. He then came back to us with a bit of paper and confirmed the booking that was in my friends' name and stated "I'll go and get it ready". While we were waiting I decided to get some drinks but to be honest I was not happy we just didn't feel relaxed or welcome. I stood at the bar and suddenly I became invisible! The bar person looked straight past me, as she was finishing serving someone else. When she had finished I was trying to get her attention when two other people walked up to the bar and stood to my right. She asked them immediately what they wanted. This was the final insult as far as I was concerned so we left. As I returned to the car our friends arrived. I explained the situation and said that we would do this another time and definitely another place! I will not be returning to the Cock Inn. My friends told the landlord that we had left and got some bull about there being a problem with our booking "The girl forgot to put it in the book" And yet he had our booking on the scrap of paper when he confirmed the booking with me. It really was like an episode of Fawlty towers, an absolute shambles! We went to another local pub and was met with a smile made to feel welcome had a good meal so the evening wasn't completely ruined, it's just that we didn't get to have an evening with our friends as they thought they should stay at the Cock Up (sorry INN) as they had booked.... We have now arranged another night out at another pub. there are plenty of well run places so no need to risk the poorly run ones. I have never had to leave a review like this ever before. I gave myself some time to think it over before leaving this review and to be honest I would laugh if I wasn't so annoyed and hadn't been so embarrassed.

We ate two nights in the restaurant. The menu may be a little limited and the nights specials did not change but the food was very good quality. It was tasty, well cooked and hot. The eventual bill was a pleasant surprise being quite economical for what we had. A major advantage of this restaurant is the staff. All we friendly and attentive and obliging to our needs. Thoroughly recommend it.

We arrived at 3pm and were instantly informed that the tea room was closing at 4pm. We wondered if it was already closed as it was partly lit, with very dim lighting and we were informed that the heating had broken down, no apologies were given. The staff were extremely unfriendly and there was a distinct chill in the air not just from the lack of heating. The attitude of the staff was that they could not be bothered and customers were distinctly unwelcome as they were only interested in cleaning the tea room and tidying the tables. Whilst eating our scones that were delicious, staff were sweeping the floor around our feet as if they could not wait for us to leave so they could close up and leave. I bought a few products at the end of our tea and was overcharged by £18.00. When I queried the error I was told by three members of staff that the total charge was correct and when I insisted on seeing the manager he offered me £15-01 in cash even though I had originally paid by debit card. After further lengthy discussion and calculating I eventually received the correct amount of £18-00 in cash. We were extremely disappointed with the service and attitude of the staff, particularly the argument regarding the products purchased, where I was informed many times that I was in error. No apologies were forthcoming and I left the establishment with a nasty taste in my mouth that wasn't caused by the food I had consumed. The manager was less than helpful and when I contacted head office I was told that the errors and sub-standard service were due to staff shortages and inexperienced staff. We have visited many other branches of Wilkins tea rooms throughout Essex and found them all to be excellent with friendly and cheerful service and apologies for delays or when an item on the menu has been unavailable. I would avoid this particular branch like the plague.

A very well appointed Indian/ Bangladeshi restaurant and take away. Clean and well presented dining areas and bar. Smart and well mannered staff. Good food in generous portions. We were quite impressed

We were looking for somewhere to have lunch as we were having a boat trip on the Wavely. Found this place. Well the first thing that greeted you was the smell of chip fat. We did not know the area and time was short, we went in and ordered two jacket potatoes (good quality potatoes however Luke warm on arrival, I also ordered a tea and a black coffee with milk on the side(a simple enough drink), however when it came it was a shot of coffee and a jug of milk I took it back and asked for it to be filled up with HOT water, this again was tepid. by now I had given up. (I will give the girl the benefit of the doubt with Black coffee) perhaps I should have said Americano. Last but not least I asked how much the cake cost (which looked as if it had been in the display containers for a long time) by the time it was passed to three of the youngsters (from me to you a bit like the Chuckle Brothers)!! I gave up. A place I certainly would not recommend.

After getting mugged off twice previously, I thought I'd give it one more chance to redeem itself. Well, I wish I hadn't bothered. 2 microwaved saveloys both split, what they call large chips, but I would call medium at best. And the best bit was the large cod which was6"" long and the same width and a quarter of that was batter. £14.70 for that. What a rip off, oh and they only take cash! I guess they don't have to declare it all. I'll never waste my money there again.
