The best restaurants serving British food in East of England

A tasteless fish and chips.. dry chips... had to fight to get a mug of tea. The outer kitchen (where the teas and coffees are made) looked in great need of a high pressure hose... The young woman that took our order was short, fat and spotty, totally unsmiling and dedicated to being unhelpful... grumpy and snappy when asked a direct question.. My partner ordered a salad.. a bland and tasteless salad. We were allowed mugs for our tea at the third time of asking... one was dirty.. What a disaster!

I was very dissatisfied withe fish and chips , the fish was over cooked dry and hard round the edges and the chips were not too bad but I found a red coloured hair in them , I had taken the away and did not have time to go back and complain , they are also a bit pricey .

Sometimes the service and food is okay but when they change their staff (which is often) it's awful. Last time my family and I were there is ordered all our food, asked the new bar 'boy' if they had the meat we requested to which he said 'yes'. I was not confident it was and was right. So I ordered a salmon salad and approx an hour later my salmon come out and looked like it had been deep fried as it was drenched in grease. This is not the first time we have left the place after waiting a long time for food, disappointed and hungry. We will never eat there ever again!!

Fuimos hoy aquí con los compañeros de trabajo. Hay una habilidad para hacer cócteles y uno que el personal todavía aprender. Son caras en £9 + e incluso en 2 por 1, simplemente porque no estás bien y imbebible. Pedí probablemente el más sencillo de hacer. . Un Kir Royale, era tan malo que tenía que tener que mezclado con agua de soda sólo para el añadido más Kir daba asco.

I know I have put visited in. May 2022 but the last time I visited was back in 90s, & no later dates to put in. was visiting the area with my ex husband family & stop off at phillpotts, not sure if they still bake the scones on premises but they use to make the scones, & jam themselves back then The best cream tea I've ever tasted, shame they don't do a phillpotts in newcastle as I moved back to my hometown It was still owned by one of the phillpotts family back them, a remember a guy with dark hair beard & glasses , but I was in my mid 20s then in the 90s Recommend such a lovely place & I do recommend the cream teas 👌👌👌

Cheap but delicious snacks, very friendly staff, we often come here. The coffee is not bitter, the sausage rolls are the best, and there is a wide variety of savouries and sweets as well as soft/hot drinks.

Went there for anniversary meal with my husband.but go often with family when visiting.also had a Xmas meal there with our coffee afternoon friends and meal was good .you have wait a little while ,as it cooked fresh as you wait.staff very helpful.we both disabled they help us when needed.keep up good work at elm.see you all on the 16 February for husband birthday.liz mike Wisbech.😊

Absolutely discusting AVOID , outdated, discusting carpets, full of dust everywhere, rubbish chucked on top of wardrobe, no towel for showering, absolutely dirty in bathroom, Blackpool gave it a run 4 it's money that's how bad it was ... £80+.... I wouldn't give £10 for staying, AVOID AVOID ... needs closing down

I telephoned an order through to collect, the order was ready and on time - however !! This was probably the worst experience I’ve ever had of buying Fish and Chips - WHY - although my piece of fish was white and ok the batter was awfully soggy, my partners fish was grey in the middle - threw it in the bin, the chips were mostly awful - and the price for one large cod and one medium cod with one portion of regular chips - £21.30 WOW !!!!

Friendly staff. Food took a little while coming - bacon sandwich - was told no white bread?? So had brown. Cooked to my preference. Lovely coffee. Very comfortable surroundings and no staff to hassle you! Reasonable price especally if you have a Debenhams Card.

Was at this cafe yesterday to be at a friends hen do and it was a great experience I was basically in the cabin area and the tea and the cakes were brilliant and make it even better because of my allergy they made lactose cakes which is awesome The only nitpick I have is I hope we would be inside the bus for the hen do but overall this was a decent place to go to for my first hen do Decent 4/5🙂

Went to have an evening meal. Lovely setting but we found it difficult to find anything we wanted to eat. If you want a salad, a baked potatoe or a microwaved meal fine. Wont come back again. Such a wasted opportunity.

The most helpful and friendly staff. Quality food. Nice to meet local people who use this a lot. Gluten free bread available which was a bonus and the nice stuff too. A little gem. On par with the best cafes in the area and we use all of them. Get yourself there.
