Pulse Cafe at Benton Hall in Braintree

Went to have an evening meal. Lovely setting but we found it difficult to find anything we wanted to eat. If you want a salad, a baked potatoe or a microwaved meal fine. Wont come back again. Such a wasted opportunity.

Foods always been inconsistent in terms of quality but it’s gone really down hill of late. Such a shame! Lovely setting and service good but let down by the food.

This is the ideal place when you have lots of time and want to relax. The views are amazing, the staff (3 ladies, one named frankie) were all really smart, kind and gave us wonderful customer service. The drinks and food were great. A really nice treat. Thank you all at benton Hall for a warm welcome. We will be back.

Saw the negative reviews before I headed out but decided to eat here anyway. The 3 staff members that served us in the restaurant today are absolutely lovely. Food and wine was great thanks to Recommendations from them, will be back again next week :)

Sultry miserable staff - waited an hour for three simple lunch dishes - staff very disinterested - don't go here during busy Xmas period as they can't cope!!

A pleasant venue to have a drink or two with a lovely view overlooking the lake with good parking facilities as you would expect from a golf course. The waiting and bar staff overall are very good however, I am not going to use the word chef as this would be an injustice to the profession. This cook could burn water... food was sent out cold and the rest burnt to a crisp. The waiter very kindly changed the food that was burnt although you must question how someone from the cooking staff could have let it go out in the first place.

Good service, good food, reasonable price. Great location, particularly in summer with outdoor facilities.

Very well priced due to it being the watering hole at a club. The food is never poor and it's generally clean and inviting. Have always enjoyed eating and drinking here.

Great to eat here provided there is not a golf function/social function having a meal at the same time (or soon after) There does not seem to be enough staff, nor kitchen capability to cater for both needs - but at other times the food and service is good. It is a golf & leisure club firstly, so many people will not be having a meal - there is not a clearly defined eating area at general times, you eat where you can find a table. Limited menu, average prices - on a par with local pub food.

I had a bean burger and chips which was tasty but nothing special. They have a good value children's menu on offer. I haven't been here for a while but they now have a small play area inside near the cafe tables for small children and a few chairs with small TVs to watch. They also have a small enclosed outdoor play area off the restaurant which is good and would give you a chance to have a relaxing drink. Non members can eat in the cafe.

I love this golf course and the restaurant looks perfect. But our visit was ruined by the saga of the baguette! One of our fourball had breakfast before us and we ordered two egg and bacon baguettes and one beef. Ten minutes later a ham roll arrived. Another ten minutes later I was given a bacon roll with cold grated cheese (a strange mix). I went to the bar and told them we had asked for bacon and runny eggs. Fifteen minutes later one hard baked agg and bacon roll arrived and when I asked about mine I was told the kitchen was preparing the egg! I pointed out that an hour had passed and we would miss our tee time. So I was told I would have to pay extra as they had forgotten to charge for it. I refused to do this and an aggressive waiter named harry stormed in and demanded very loudly "who's the one who's refusing to pay?" I pointed out that we had now been waiting an hour and he bellowed "no you haven't" All quite humiliating and it spoiled my day.

I've recently joined Benton Hall and have twice eaten in their cafe. The first time, my daughter and I had jacket potatoes and both had bad stomachs and sickness soon after eating. Then, stupidly we decided to eat again as we were both hungry after swimming. My daughter ordered Caesar salad, which was indescribable! Burnt chicken with a strange flavour and no dressing. She couldn't eat it so we sent it back. Food is not only overpriced, but dreadful too. I would only risk a drink there. Staff all seem a bit 'spaced out'.

I don't think so surly staff, off handed attitude present must trail down from top why else would it be tolerated ? 4th attempt at using Cafe had been told that the staff had been changed new chef etc if so who interviews these people ?

We have eaten here a good few times as we are members of the gym, and my Husband a member of the Golf club. The only criticism I hav ever had is when there is an event and I consider that they cannot cater for the masses i.e. Christmas events, etc. However, the food served in the bar area is good quality, good value and the waiting staff are very attentive.

2 years ago had our corporate golf day at Benton Hall and the quality and amount of food supplied ruined the day for everyone. Recently had lunch there after swimming with my grandson and nothing had changed! The caesar chicken wrap was dry and consisted mainly of iceberg lettuce, a very small portion of dried out chicken with virtually no dressing. I mentioned this to the waitress and all she said was that she would tell the chef. Never again!

Ate here on Friday evening, I had the spaghetti and meatballs and there was literally no sauce on the pasta, it was the driest bowl of pasta I'd ever seen, I couldn't eat it. Got it replaced with a burger which was better. My wife had the sausage and mash and said that it could have been out of a packet.

very under handed in the way they do bussiness make sure you look at the small print not the best service when sitting out side to have food in the no smoker area ther was a wedding going on some of the wedding party was smokeing when i was trying to eat ask the staff if they could ask them to move did not get me any were then ask again still did not get me any werei rung them up to find out how long i have got only to me told we sent out a letter when i said i did not get that letter and told them my work is takeing over so i do not get the time any more they said well you are with us for one more year they said i could come out but had to pay for 8 mths very under handing with the way they treat customers

I eat here often and the service is friendly and efficient, staff are always smiling. The food is good quality and is priced the same as high street pubs. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I would recommend Benton Hall to friends and family!

Very late review...but better late than never. What a great gym! As long as you are not a nody builder this gym has more than you need! Its a very fair price for what it is. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere, great portion sizes, fair price, amazing staff, beautiful view and obviously tasty food. I've been here with my mum, with friends, with my boss, no matter the occasion its a great place. Wonderful!

if you want food at the end of some rounds of golf then fine. They set themselves as a place offering in the past themed nights, I think they want to open themeselves to guests who are not golfers or using the fitness centre but fail to deliver. The DJ Nick Bacon is very good and offers something extra possibly the unique selling point of the evening and remembered for the right reasons.

I went there for a after wedding celebration meal the food was very nice and enjoyable a very comfortable place to be a great view for taking pictures over the balcony where the water is below and the little island in the middle, the staff are very pleasant always willing to help. Over all very nice place to eat.

My Christmas works get together with the girls was held here for the second year running last Friday, where many office parties were being hosted. As last year, the food was of a very poor quality. It was cold, there was food missing and, almost everyone within my earshot was complaining about it.My Husband is a member of the golf club and gym here and occasionally takes me there for lunch or dinner. We have absolutely no complaints about that, so it would seem to me that they are not equipped or capable of catering efficiently for large parties.It's a shame, I don't like complaining, but we gave it a shot for a second year, but will not be back for our office party.
