Stopped here for Sunday lunch, doesn’t look much from the outside but my goodness the food was delicious. The roast beef was cooked to perfection there was a choice of 4 different roast meats lots of vegetables to choose from. Portion control was not your usual slithers of slices you get in some other chain restaurants. You get to taste and savour the meat. Very enjoyable if back in the area again we would make a point of stopping again for food. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Three quarters of the food was good, uncooked roast potatoes and a poor pint of Guinness were the negative points of food/drink. I feel service/welcome was below average also.

Seven of us had lunch here today. Four adults and three children. The place is a carvery, like a Toby, but is in a totally different league. Yes, its small scale, but the food was outstanding. Just like Mam used to make. And, with drinks and massive plates of food, the bill was £62!!!

First things first don't pay attention to other reviews, They were being kind. The place looks like it is an old work hut, And after getting told by friends years ago that it was a friendly place and great food and if we were ever back in the area to go in. WOW how wrong were they. After getting shown to a table, we checked out the menu and saw there was a carvery. My god, the turkey was Snow White, and the roast looked like a bald tyre. The ham was not much better. We decided to order off the menu. After getting offered drinks, the waitress who was very abrupt who had a German accent and had a dirty looking vest on poured drinks into what looked like a test tube that was full of dirt and after she poured the drinks while stretching to get glasses from the counter above showed of her sweating hairy arm pit swaying over the drinks. When we asked for ice there was none. As the drinks lay on the bar we sat for around 4 or 5mins waiting on them coming to our table when the barmaid/waitress/ cleaner walked away without saying a word and l took it that we had to help ourselves to our drinks. After 10mins of silence, we decided that enough was enough. We got up and left. I don't think this place should be open to the public, and health and safety would have a field day.

Unfortunately, I can't comment on the food as we never got that far! We thought, foolishly, that we would give this place a go as its close to home. We walked through the door, hung around and eventually a lady walked over and just looked at us. We asked if she had a table for two. Her reply was a huge sigh and roll of the eyes. She then pointed to the table right in front of the door and said 'sit there, come to the bar'. She then turned and stormed off behind the bar. We walked over to her and I asked if we could sit further down as I didn't want to sit near the door. Another sigh. She came back out, looked at the other 3 empty tables and said, no they are reserved. 'Sit there' and pointed to the table by the door again. So rude and abrupt. This lady really needs a lesson or two in customer service. We walked out.

I used to come here all the time with my mum and grandparents but I'd never return after seeing what I saw last time, I'd just been up to get my food from the carvery and sat down, I can't stand when people can't wait till there sat down to eat what on there plate but to make it worse the man who served me my meat actually took a sausage with his bare hands from the carvery, dipped it in the gravy, eat the top then dipped it again! Made me feel sick. So I will not be returning!!!!

We have often passed by this restaurant because it is off road and on our way to Hunstanton. But to satisfy our inquisitiveness, we stopped to take a look on our last trip out. We were not disappointed! We found a beautifully set out restaurant with neat and clean tables and settings. We ate from the carvery. That roast beef was melt in the mouth! It was not cut the usual wafer thin slice of meat that other carvery's give you. Mine was half and inch thick! The carrots were sweet and large, which is how I cook my own because you get more flavour than you would when they're cut into silly little circles. All the vegetables were cooked to perfection and had that lovely slight crunch to them, not raw and not boiled to death soggy. The friendliness of the owner's made us feel very welcome and after dinner we moved to sit on a very comfortable and cosy sofa to watch a little afternoon tv and allow our meal to settle before we journeyed on. We took a peek throughout the venue and were delighted and amused to see that an extension had been built around two of the hugest trees! So yes, there were two very large trees inside the restaurant. Stop by and eat just to see this original feature. but most of all, stop by to eat because the meal was so delicious! It was nice that good quality toilet paper was used in the w.c! We loved everything so much that we ate there again two days later on our way home from our little holiday, and delighted to say that the roast beef was just as delicious! (I told the chef that I came back especially for his roast beef. I'm sure he gave me a little extra and a little thicker!) My husband ordered lamb shank this time. Oh wow! Just beautiful! We highly recommend the Stable Bar & Restaurant!

I agree with most of the other reviews. I took my elderly mother in yesterday and was horrified at the reception we received. Not having ever been before we were left to sit at a table without any help with what to do or where to go. The staff didn't even bother telling us and there were no signs to say make your orders at the bar. We just went and followed other people only to be turned away by a surly man saying 'where is your ticket, you can't have the carvery without a ticket'? I went to the bar as instructed and asked for two tickets, I was then confronted by the very rude female behind the bar who said you have to pay before you pay upfront which I thought was rather bizarre! She then refused to serve me tap water, saying I had to buy bottled and when I tried to pay my debit card, the machine was allegedly not working. I was then told.....not asked, 'you have to pay cash'. At no point did she apologise, say please or thank you, not even a smile. I told her I wouldn't be paying cash and I wouldn't be staying. The only pleasant staff member was a very young waitress who met us when we walked in but unfortunately even she didn't bother telling us what we needed to do. Would not recommend this place, it is a joke.

First impression on arriving on Father's Day to treat my adopted dad his wife and my friend to a nice carvery wasn't very nice. The woman behind the bar was so rude, loud and had no communication skills what so ever, whilst waiting to be served not 1 smile or 1 please or THANKYOU was heard and her tone of voice was so sharp you could of cut an ice cube with it. Once we had our raffle ticket to get lunch well not sure I can write how disgusting the food was without swearing..... Cold uncooked and definitely not worth the £8.95 it cost. I'm not a fussy eater but I do like value for money and this place certainly never gave me that. Will not be returning ever again, even if it was free.

Honest cavery food with a 'better than most' selection. 5 meats (all tender & full of flavour) & we lost count of the number of veg you could have! Interesting decor, dated agreed, but clean enough (as were the toilets, which is ALWAYS a good sign!) Waitressing staff very pleasant & 'aware enough' so worth tipping! Please note cash only at the mo, did cause another journey before we went in but will know for next time!

An ill-advised visit prompted by hungry children and lack of alternatives. First impressions are what you see is what you get - but turned out to be far worse. Salubrious this place is not; it's a collection of ramshackle scruffy buildings, porta-cabins, static caravans and shabby grounds woven together in curious mock tudor style that someone presumably deemed tasteful. The interior is an eclectic collection of eighties decor and furniture with large tv screens blaring out pop music from the same era. All of which I could forgive as the Sunday carvery ( the only food we have sampled ) was quite acceptable and the young girls clearing the tables were very pleasant ( rest of the staff, less so). However, having bought 4 carveries (£8.95 each as children over 7 are charged as an adult but then given smaller portions of meat) and two adult drinks, we requested two glasses of tap water for the children. The woman serving at the bar informed us, with almost triumph in her voice, that the establishment does not provide tap water as policy because it is not clean or safe enough to drink! We witnessed another member of staff reiterating the same policy. The establishment either has a very serious food hygiene problem that needs immediate redress - if the staff are to be believed. Or, it is acting illegally to persuade customers to pay for water. Any establishment in England and Wales which retails alcohol is required, by law, to serve tap water. sscreens

Frequented this restaurant often, but have not been in at least three years. On entering we were approached and asked if we had eaten here before, I of course answered yes. But I wish to goodness I hadn't as this laid me wide open to the confusing purchasing/ordering/Collecting service. We sat down at the rather tired looking table and the 'waitress' stood looking at us. We eventually realised we had to order our drinks ourselves at the bar. No problem... I ordered and paid for the drinks, balancing them in my arms as no tray was offered. The order taker asked if that was all we wanted and of course I answered I was having the carvery, but at no point did she point out the system and there were no written instructions anywhere to inform people how to go on. When I went to the guy serving food, he informed me I had to pay in advance and then get our food. Ok...... silly me. I queued again at the bar and paid for my food! I was handed tickets with no explanation as to why and didn't really take too much notice of this. (Silly me, I should have realised I would need that number!!!) We foolishly queued up and when we got to the front, were asked for tickets.... which I had left at the table. So, back to the table to collect them and queue once again!!! Once we eventually got our food, we had to carry it back to the table ourselves, meaning I had two to deal with as one of our number was disabled. It was honest plain cooking just as it was before. We ate and left. No one approached us and I watched as the 'waitress' continued to play on her phone behind the 'puddings' area, which no doubt you have to queue for again and pay in advance for etc. It felt as though I was at a chain restaurant and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that as long as you are made aware of what is expected of you. However, even in these, you are generally brought your food to the table by a server and not expected to self serve. Yes, a carvery is usually 'self serve' but this place combined all the methods leaving the uninformed diner struggling. And once you have told the greeter you have been before (it wasn't a lie!) that's it, not one person will let on what you are expected to do. Due to the self service nature of the Sunday carvery system and odd payment methods, I did not enjoy my visit and won't go again. I was not made to feel welcome and as we approached the door, noted our table being prepared for more diners immediately. This place is all about bums on seats and is like a conveyor system. Again, nothing wrong with that, but a smile, a kind word or someone paying attention to ensure the diner is following the rules or is satisfied, would not have gone amiss. Especially for the money they charged (£9.95) for one main plate of food.

We went for my nephews 16th birthday! We queued up for the carvery for about 10 minutes, while listening to an extremely rude 'chef' shouting and using foul language, too interested in what other people were talking about instead of the food he was serving! The meal was disgusting! The meat was extremely fatty, the vegetables were cold and hard and the mash potato has been sitting there that long that it had gone into one huge freezing cold lump. One we finished our meal, our dirty plates sat on the table for about 30 mins until we had to get up and ask about dessert which again we had to queue up for.. we had to push our dirty plates from the carvery into the middle of the table so we had room to eat dessert. The ice-cream was basically like having a bowl of cream as it was that melted. I had the baked cheesecake which was like eating a pot of philidephia.. way too cheesy. We sat there for about another 30 minutes and still there was no sign of anyone wanting to clean our table. We left and we didn't even get a goodbye or thank you. Never would I ever step foot in the extremely poor restaurant again!

This was a good cheep place to eat £5.95 Now it is £8.95 and the food is cold not fresh. The only good thing is the meat is good. The drinks are as deer as a top hotel. The language from the owners is disgusting, and you have to hear this as you eat the cold Vegetables. So if you want cold veg and high beer drinks prices, and bad language go here. You will not be surprised and will get it. My advise is to do what I will be doing in the future and staying clear. They say it says on Google that it is close well under this management / ownership that is what it should be is CLOSED. 18/10/2015 is when we went there.

Today my wife and I were passing and saw carvery sign so stopped. We had carvery just prior to funeral reception coming in.Meat was well cooked the roast potatoes and yorkshire were lovely the amount of meat was twice the portion of our local carvery,we have had a lot of carveries in different places and all I can say this was brilliant and the place and staff was nice.It is a pity this is at Wisbech and not at Lowestoft as we would be there a lot and they could teach our locals a thing or too thank you and well done. So they complained and all chef said was I've eaten this before and it's fine. So my poor mother and sister was left hungrey. Don't use be warned

This place has changed its name and thus maybe ownership, from westfields to crossroads hotel. I had noticed for a while they were doing an in week car very at a price of £3:95 or so which is so cheap it almost so puts you off. I went a few years ago and meat was fatty veg not great, potatoes tough and I guess from day before re-heated. But a few years on decided it was time to return. I went at about 6pm in December and I was amazed. I asked for all the meat selection and got hearty amounts, and helped myself to veg gravy etc. it was superb, meat wonderful, gravy superb, veg great, could not fault it one bit. Have noticed now though that they have raised the price by a pound since, but if you get what I got on that night it was truly worth it.

Six of called on May Bank Holiday Monday to try out the carvery. Officious waitress eventually came to us and asked for our drinks order ,Drinks duly delivered she informed us that the carvery was not available. I had told her on arrival that we were planning to eat from the carvery but she waited till we had purchased drinks to inform us that it was closed. There were alternative meals available but we found her attitude unfriendly and we thoroughly peeved at the way we had been hoodwinked into buying drinks before being informed. We told her we did not widh to order alternative food and she responded witha ahaughty "HUh!" and slammed down her pencil and pad on the desk. Not a pleasant visit.

We have lived close to Wisbech since 2007 and on the occasions that we wanted to try the Stable Bar for some pub food, they were either closed (Bank holiday) or "fully booked" which is why it has taken us until 2012 to try it out.I have to say I was very dissapointed, I ordered fish and chips and when it arrived, it looked like the fish was not freshly battered, but had come out of the box from Captain Birds Eye, they seemed to have perfected the art of fish crucifiction as it seems that my piece had not been content with being cooked once... oh no, it fancied another go in the dirty fat to give it that extra crust that can only be achieved through double frying shop bought cheap "mums gone to iceland" type battered fish.To compound matters, the chips that came with the fish were lukewarm at best. What is it about us Brits that makes us feel ashamed to complain, I felt ashamed but we did complain, though after we'd eaten the food (hunger is a bad motivator when it comes to complaining about poor food) What we really should have done is refused to eat it, paid for the Tea we'd drank and walked. They advertise their famous Carvery on chalk boards outside, perhaps we should have played it safe and tried that out and that would be my advice to anyone brave enough to try the food here. Our experience is that is just like home cooked food... cooked by someone at home, whose not very good at cooking.

Probably my worst WS meal ever. 3 sausages almost burnt, they were tasteless and well overcooked which I said to the server who grinned at me. The chips as usual most were hard and inedible, peas hard. Served in a bowl with gravy all over the chips. WS has had a problem with hard chips for months, I have complained to staff and emailed head office to no avail. Thats it I AM NOT eating at a WS any more.

Two adults and two dogs enjoyed our weekend at the GTI. From arrival, the personalised touches really made for a memorable experience- homemade cakes, gin and tonic in the suite, relaxed but efficient service and delightfully presented accommodation. The pub and restaurant is wonderful, the food is exceptional. The service was wonderfully attentive and relaxed, the prices were good value. We ate in the restaurant and the pub, both menus were superb. We visited beaches, ran around the Downs, shopped in Burnham Market and Thornham Farm shops.
