The King William had a big refurbishment this year & it's come such a long way! It's stylish & modern, but still cosy & warm at the same time. The rooms are luxurious, with even the smallest of details taken into consideration. You can tell a lot of thought went into it. The garden space outside is lovely, with some tables undercover & some out in the open - perfect for drinks in the sun. I've always enjoyed the food here, & can personally recommend the vegan roast. Everyone is always super friendly & chatty, shout out to Bruce for being a gem! 👋

A lovely country house hotel. We arrived with another couple, and the Manager, Bruce greeted us, explaining that there was minor refurbishment, but this would not cause us disruption, and indeed it did not. We stayed for two nights and had dinner on both occasions in the Restaurant. A very good menu, with a wide range of dishes which would cater for every taste. Food presentation was excellent. The scrambled egg for breakfast was the best we have ever had in any hotel. The crab linguine was outstanding, together with lambs’ liver. Small bar, but excellent and friendly service. Claire in the dining room was a credit to the hotel.

Popped into the pub for a lunchtime snack and pint. There’s a small bar and large restaurant area all of which is clean, modern and well looked after. Staff were helpful and polite. Menu also seemed to have a good choice available. My experience fell short when I ordered a Club Ciabatta which on arrival consisted of a piece of bacon that was barely cooked and a couple of slices of re heated chicken breast with the standard lettuce. This may have been a “one off” and I’d been unlucky but the quality of my meal was poor, very disappointed.

This was our fourth visit since the King William IV has been under new management and we were once again extremely impressed. Disappointed with 'pie Tuesday,' was told it was chicken and mushroom pie in a pastry case.. So ordered 2. 1 with chips 1 with mash. Recieved shepherd's pie in a metal bowl with no pastry. both with chips. When queried was told they never had chicken and mushroom. Then they walked away with no further conversation on this matter. Poor customer service.

I came here with my adult children for a get-together during the school holidays. We chose the King William as it showed a good choice of gluten-free items on the menu, better than some nearby places. We had the vegan burger with chips, the gluten-free fish and chips and the smashed avocado on sourdough. All three were well cooked and we enjoyed them. For dessert we had the gluten-free sticky toffee pudding, the creme brulee and the raspberry sorbet and mousse which was delicious. Service was a little slow but I put this down to everything being freshly cooked and maybe taking longer to prepare the gluten-free dishes to order. The dining room was very pleasantly decorated and light and airy.

Newly refurbished, this was a great choice for an evening meal. Menu quite varied and different for a pub restaurant. Our starters were whitebait and also mini cheese souffle with chorizo sauce. Husband had beef fillet and feather beef which was perfectly medium rare. I had stone bass in a delicious sauce. We'd never had these menu choices before and it was so nice to have something different. Not the usual chips either, a type of dauphin potatoes. Staff were friendly too. We will definitely be returning.

Called in for Sunday lunch, friendly staff, asked to see menu as looking to get value for money. Roast was advertised at £14.95 more then we normally pay closer to home but we excepted that and ordered. Asked what meats they had and was told three types I picked beef my partner lamb. Beef had fat running through middle which I had to cut away, but the veg etc was lovely, I wanted to pay when we ordered which inc two drinks one coke one cider. I was told we pay after as we had a tab. The bill was more then I expected not only did they charge £5 extra for beef they had the cheek to add £3.49 service charge. Two roast and two drinks came to £47.39. I wish we had never stopped there. I won't be stopping again asthis is a giant con, advertise at one price and charge you extra once you've eaten, then give themselves a little bonus what a bloody cheek. I had better meat at a local carvery for £8.50 never going there again and would not recommend it if you want a fair deal.

Absolutely awful visit. We went in December and had a great time with Bruce and his team. Sadly on revisiting in March a whole different story. Charged £30 for a bottle of wine (which in our local costs £15). Only customers in the pub and the barmaid was undertaking a training course (?customer service) so left sitting in an empty bar with no atmosphere at all. Will not be back. Absolutely shocking 😮

We have been here on numerous occasions and have driven from home which is approx. an hour away for meals as the food, atmosphere and service has always been excellent. We are staying locally for the weekend and decided this was the place to visit. On arrival the bar area was busy which is a good sign. We quickly discovered that the business was under new ownership and heard several people mention the launch of a new menu, which we found to be limited on choice. We ordered our food, which was served in a timely manner, however in our opinion and from previous experience the quality was lower than expected especially at the price point that has been set. The bar got busier due to a party going into the restaurant and at points whilst eating, we had drinks passed over us to other people, were leant on, bumped into and even had coats laid on the chairs. Whilst this is not directly the restaurants fault, but the rudeness of certain individuals we felt the people should have been taken through and seated alot sooner than they were as their tables were ready. Sadly, on this occasion we were disappointed and hope the new owners take this on board.

Visited here on the first night of our stay in Norfolk. Nice looking pub, shown to our table next to the radiator which was great on a cold night. The guy who was serving the drinks was a bit load My wife is vegetarian and so she chose the Broccoli and Stilton Soup. Unfortunately the soup was so salty it had to be sent back, this was replaced by halloumi chips which she found ok. I had the squid which was nice. For mains I have the fish and chips the fish was ok, the 7 or 8 chips were disappointing my wife had the vegetarian gnocchi, which again was disappointing. On a brighter note our waitress did really well despite all the challenges

Although only two other rooms were in use, we were not given a room with a larger bed. The staff were friendly enough but clearly disinterested in making it a successful business. The final straw was (as adults) being told we had to go to our rooms at 9.30pm as they were closing up and putting out the lights!!... sorry but could not recommend. The 10 fish and chips eventually arrived at 7.45 ish, the 3 of us having meat dishes had to wait about 10 minutes longer for ours. It was the worst burger and chips I have had in ages - the bun was burnt, the onion rings were burnt but the bacon on top of the burger was barely cooked. I’d asked for skinny fries, but chunky chips arrived, that could have been our fault, but having waited almost 45 minutes for some food I wasn’t going to ask them to change them. We visited the King William on our first night of a long weekend away, a very welcoming greeting. We had a couple of drinks, apparently the Guiness was "excellent". We walked home to our rented cottage to a fiasco, we had lost the key! After much conversation with the owners and their offer to drive over a spare key, we walked back to the hotel, Bruce and his team, couldn't have been more sympathetic. Luckily they had a vacant room which we took for the night. He even said if he hadn't had a room , he would have let us sleep on the sofas, rather than let us be in the car. What a true gentleman and a perfect host. A credit to the Red Cat pub group He and his team went above and beyond, great pub, great food and great rooms Bruce, we will be back and we thank you

BRUCE INGLES the Manager/Inn Keeper makes the King William IV Country Inn a warm and welcoming place to visit whether you're popping into the pub, having a meal or booked into the accommodation. He is relaxed and friendly whilst being professional and attentive, and must be the hardest working Inn Keeper I have ever encountered. Location of the King William is central to most places and just a couple of miles from the coast without the accompanying high prices. It is situated on a through road but traffic is not heard inside nor in the room I occupied. Plenty of parking available and a garden with seating at the back of the property. Restaurant serves large portions, is moderately priced (£15 for a large beef burger and chips) and, very sensibly, has a separate dining area for those of us with dogs. The entire property is dog friendly. Accommodation is what you would expect for the very reasonable price. Sturdy pine furniture, but good quality bed linen, decent toiletries in the bathroom and tea & coffee making facilities. Bathroom: Clean. A bath you can actually take a bath in as there's a plug. Shower and bath, hot water and good water pressure even at peak times. My personal preference is for a softer mattress and soft pillows and these were, for me, uncomfortably hard. I brought my own pillows in from my car. Overall, I rate the King William highly because of the exceptional management and good value for money.

We have been and eaten here a few times over the summer. Bruce and the team are doing a great job and working hard to pull this venue back up to where it belongs. The food has been consistantly good, presented well and perfectly cooked. We have sampled the menu range too. Drinks were also good, plenty of choice. Front of house, meet and greet were spot on every time, service was crisp and well organised, really nice to see a warm welcome and friendly service. This was a marked improvement over the last owners. The place was clean and fresh looking. We havent stayed in the hotel aspect of the venue, so cannot comment on that. Everywhere we visited including the toliets were clean and tidy. It is clear when speaking to the locals who use the venue a lot, speak highly of the new owners and team running the place and acknowledge the hard work going in from Bruce and his team to turn the place around. Excellent pub food and great value when you book the dinner inclusive option. The full English breakfast is one of the best I have had anywhere. Bruce and his staff are friendly and nothing seems to be too much trouble for them. The hotel is particularly dog friendly. Although some of the changes introduced under the new ownership by Red Cat might not be to everyones's liking, I think that keeping up such a good level of comfort, service and value for money in these challenging times is to be highly commended. Went to the sedgeford king William Saturday night 12/8/23, not happy in the slightest, to start our group booking was made in correct as the establishment contacted our party lead name saying we had a reservation for 6pm and was late, when in fact it was for 7pm , were seated late, the bar manager when approached said he was waiting for us, but the fact no staff came to us had escaped his mind, we then sat waiting for 20 minutes before our order was taken, the orders arrived in good time and as requested, during the meal we sat with empty glasses and was not approached for a refill, we had to stop a waitress to get a drink and that obviously was troubling the girl as she really didn't want to take a drinks order, we were offered a desert but declined, within ten minutes the bar manager slapped our tab on the table, we didn't request the bill it just appeared, abruptly.. this was 9.00pm , we got up from our table and went to the bar, ordered a round of drinks and paid our tab, as we are local to the area born and bred, we met some old acquaintances and stood chatting, ordered two whiskeys , around 9:40pm at 10:02 requested two more and the bar manager said I'm closed and tilled up, we close at 10pm ! Looking slightly bemused our acquaintance agreed, yes he said he closes at 10:00, there was easily 15 people in the establishment with seated diners and drinkers in the bar, in a Saturday night... Obviously there is way too much money in hospitality at sedgeford? Considering the staff were unmotivated, the bar manager was not only too full of his own importance, but I found him rude and ignorant, there was a small family staying the night with a unruly yapping dog, that the owners were oblivious to its constant barking at anyone that moved, numerous diner's asked to be relocated, one mid meal as plates of half eaten food where transported by us to a vacant table, yet as manager he clearly was to frightened to request the animal be removed from the public area, and rather he would upset his paying guests, obviously of the mind set that each and everyone was a tripper and will never be seen again so no need to bother, more a case of I have your money so go sooner than later and if the yapping dog drives you out before 10pm the better for me attitude. Safe to say this will be the last visit to a pub I have frequented for 40 years, and if this is the standard set by the Red Cat Pub Company, then once bitten twice shy of any other red cat establishments.

Went on Monday evening without booking and we were greeted and made to feel very welcome by both Bruce the landlord and his customers. A good range of beers and real ales which were kept very well. Despite not booking we were able to be seated almost immediately for a meal. A very good pub style menu with lots of local ingredients. Good service by both Bruce and his staff and the food arrived quickly. The food was extremely well cooked and presented and was good value for money. We will definitely visit again very soon.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Thursday evening meal today:ate up delicious sea bass, beef & ale pie (meat was tender), and the child's fish & chips with peas was excellent & served early for her. Nothing was too much trouble. The 2 varieties of beers were excellent as was the Sauvignon Blanc wine. Also the chocolate sundae and sticky toffee pudding with custard couldn't have tasted better - will definitely visit again.

I was here in the 80s with my new wife Julie Chalk. She was born and raised in Hockwold. It was one of the best times of my life. One day I will come back.

Excellent lunch as part of Norfolk Restaurant week. Had 3 courses, delicious chicken breast with parsnip purée, fondant potato, cavolo Nero and mushroom sauce. My husband had bream with a Chinese twist. We both had the steamed Guinness sponge pudding with whiskey caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. Staff are lovely and very attentive despite a busy restaurant. Have been meaning to visit for ages and it was worth the trip! We will be back.

Great pub with fine choice of ales and good veggie / vegan menu. We sat in the extension with great views over the river and port activity. Excellent service too.
