Went to burger night. Didn't have a very good experience. In fact we left. Apparently there was a problem with our booking. " The girl forgot to put it in the book" . We didn't feel welcome. In fact we felt like we were an inconvenience. Then after being ignored at the bar and another person who had just got to the bar was served first we decided enough was enough and we went elsewhere.

We arranged to meet some friends on the 6th of June 24 for "Burger night" My friends had booked a table for 7 PM. When we arrived some tables had reserved notices on them so until we were able to speak to a member of staff about our booking we went to sit at a table that wasn't reserved to have a drink until our friends arrived. Just as we were about to sit down we were told abruptly by the landlord " No No you can't sit there" . I told him we have a booking to which he replied "let me clear this table and I'll check" He seemed very stressed and there was no feeling of us being welcome at all. In fact I felt like we were an inconvenience. He then said to some other people "sit here before it goes" and seated them at the table that he was clearing. This left us standing in the middle of the pub feeling most unwelcome. He then came back to us with a bit of paper and confirmed the booking that was in my friends' name and stated "I'll go and get it ready". While we were waiting I decided to get some drinks but to be honest I was not happy we just didn't feel relaxed or welcome. I stood at the bar and suddenly I became invisible! The bar person looked straight past me, as she was finishing serving someone else. When she had finished I was trying to get her attention when two other people walked up to the bar and stood to my right. She asked them immediately what they wanted. This was the final insult as far as I was concerned so we left. As I returned to the car our friends arrived. I explained the situation and said that we would do this another time and definitely another place! I will not be returning to the Cock Inn. My friends told the landlord that we had left and got some bull about there being a problem with our booking "The girl forgot to put it in the book" And yet he had our booking on the scrap of paper when he confirmed the booking with me. It really was like an episode of Fawlty towers, an absolute shambles! We went to another local pub and was met with a smile made to feel welcome had a good meal so the evening wasn't completely ruined, it's just that we didn't get to have an evening with our friends as they thought they should stay at the Cock Up (sorry INN) as they had booked.... We have now arranged another night out at another pub. there are plenty of well run places so no need to risk the poorly run ones. I have never had to leave a review like this ever before. I gave myself some time to think it over before leaving this review and to be honest I would laugh if I wasn't so annoyed and hadn't been so embarrassed.

We decided to try the Sunday lunch for hubbies birthday. The second we walked in we should’ve walked straight back out. We were 5 minutes early and got told the manager is currently sat at our table so they will get our drinks and we can have a seat. Manager had decided he hasn’t finished talking by this point so we had to wait a little longer. Once sat another party came in sat down and they were given menus while we still sat there. I had to ask for menus. Once we had decided we sat for a good 10 minutes (same as the other table) to be told we had to order at the bar. Heads up would’ve been nice. We went to order food only to be told that the 3 options on the menu were completely different. As turkey was an option rather than chicken I asked that when it’s bought over can they call it chicken as I have a 6 year old that likes chicken!! A large party turned up and through no fault of their own had to squish themselves in behind us. Making it very uncomfortable for them and for us. When our food was delivered it was mediocre at best. Little one they bought out chicken nuggets and chips so we had to wait for his to be redone before we could eat ours. To end of the meal about half way though I found a bi e dark hair (myself and little one are blonde, hubby shaved all of his) they apologised and gave me a refund on that meal. We decided to pay for the rest and go to Tesco for hubbies birthday dessert. Won’t be returning.

Looking at Tripadvisor reviews I’m thinking this pub has been closed and under new management as there is a big gap in reviews. Never been here before. Called in on a Thursday. There is a menu that is very well priced and Thursdays are two burgers (beef/chicken or halloumi) and chips. You can order two for just £10. Excellent value for money and the beef and chicken were tasty. We also had a salad and desserts, sticky toffee pudding, cheesecake and tiramisu. The lady who looked after us was very welcoming. Would definitely return and recommend this pub. Tuesdays apparently they do two pizzas for £10.

Two lagers on tap, no bitter. Only flavoured gin; no ordinary gin. No tonic! Three bottles of wine to choose from; barmaid had to pour wine from bottle labelled cab. Sauvignon to see what colour it was. Only one brandy to choose from. This pub will not survive offering a service like this.

I used to really like this pub / restaurant but was bitterly disappointed when I visited it yesterday. Since pubs reopened I have only visited 1 other, where I was shown to table and asked to scan the QR code or give contact details. I expected the same at the Cock Inn. How wrong can you be? The expectation was to walk in and find a table. There was a QR code displayed on the door but in the 2 hours I sat facing it, nobody scanned it. The staff didn't mention it. In fact the only information given upon arrival was that they had run out of lager, They appeared to only have two young girls serving, every table was occupied and it was 20 mins before anyone came over to take our order. It was another half an hour before the drinks actually appeared. Tables weren't cleared and when they were there was certainly no wiping them down. There seemed to be no expectation to wear a mask when entering the building. The waitresses certainly weren't wearing them and it seemed to be a 50/50 split when it came to customers going in to use the toilets. In honesty it was a shambles. We have heard so much in the media about the hospitality industry being ready to reopen with necessary Covid precautions in place. Not at the Cock Inn!!

Just don’t bother going! Called in for a Sunday afternoon drink. Sat in the car park at a dirty table for about 40 minutes before leaving without a drink. We asked three times to be served, but the two young adults on duty ( that right only two people working on a busy Sunny Sunday afternoon) just told me that they would be back. We were not the only ones to leave without getting served. Why run a pub if you don’t like selling beer? Now sitting at home with a nice Doombar that I purchased from the supermarket. What a real shame.

Me and my partner decided we would go to the cock in today saturday the first weekend of pubs opening. We was surprised to find wasnt too busy. We were offered a table by a couple who said there leaving as been waiting an hour for a drink since they ordered and hadn't got one. Yet. We sat down trying to get an order no chance but then 20 mins of sitting down the last couple drinks arrived. We asked the lady serving these could we order she said no too busy so I purchased the drinks ordered 1.20 mins ago by the previous couple . These obviously were not what we wanted. Waiting another hour now being there 1.20 mins a young girl came to serve us and we ordered the drinks we came for. We then waited another 40 minutes with no sign of anything coming. We spend 2 hours no glass of wine. Embarressment 2 young girls one with card machine one with drinks. Following each other aimlessly. No sign of any manager or guidance. As they were bringing drinks out they were taking them back as people had left by then and orders were over a hour behind. People started going shop getting there own. On the first sat back the manager should of expected customers. There was prob enough staff to cover 6-8 tables at that pace and that poorly managed so slow no urgency Not 20-25 tables. Ruined peoples day So poorly managed must of lost hundreds of pounds today aswell Wish could give this zero.

We visited the cock inn last night for a birthday meal. Arrived at 6pm but did not receive any service for 40 minutes when we were asked what drinks we would like. We knew the pub was busy so brushed this off but unfortunately the service did not get any better. We then did not manage to order our food until gone 7pm in which when it arrived, the meal was cold, taken away again to be reheated and half of the meal did not arrive. We mentioned to the staff that our two lots of fries had not come to the table, we then continued to finish our meal so it did not become cold and our fries had still not arrived. My partner this time went to the bar to ask where they were and they did not arrive all night. I left early due to the service being poor and it did ruin our birthday evening out. It was our first meal out in a long time due to Covid-19 and it just but a dampener on the rest of the evening. The team did not charge us for the fries that obviously did not arrive and they did knock off the bottle of wine from the bill. I have been to the cock inn previously and had a lovely time, many of my friends also recommended for a birthday meal, especially as they are dog friendly. I am well and truly disappointed with the service we received and hope that nobody else has a similar visit in future. A gentleman at the bar did ask how our night was, we explained and he said, well thanks for coming, see you soon! And that was all. The staff did not seem bothered in the slightest :( I hope if we return the service does change! As well as this, we found the portion sizes small for the price of the meal. I understand being a stand alone pub the prices may be higher, but we would expect a better standard to resemble the cost.

I didn't want to leave this review but after complaining about our experiences to the manager and them saying they would look into it, then ignoring our next messages, I feel I'm left with no choice. First of all the doormen/bouncers, this is a village pub, no other pub in the village has these so why does this pub? Now it would be fine except these bouncers are power happy and from what I've personally seen don't do much apart from cause more trouble. I was in the pub one night and my son came in with friends on their break from uni. They're studying science at uni and are nice lads. A few stopped to get drinks while the others went to use the toilet first. The bouncer stopped them from using the toilet and when they asked why he said he didn't know but the bouncer behind the bar had told him not to let them!!! They went and bought their drinks and sat outside. Whilst outside they had empty cigarette Packets thrown at them by some older women on a different table. All of this was watched by the bouncer who did nothing to intervene. They asked the women why they did that and were ignored so they carried on chatting. Next thing the women start shouting at them to shut up you little ****. Still watched by the sniggering bouncer. I was up and down about going there again (and wish my son had told me what happened at the time). But went back a couple of weeks later. It was all very young bar staff and we waited and waited to be served but time and time again they served the next young person who had just arrived at the bar (we're pretty sure they were the girls friends). In the end my friend said -excuse me we were next. To be greeted with a shrug and well how was I meant to know that!! We gave up then and went to a different pub instead but was such a shame as we really like the band they had in that night but can't drink somewhere where their customer service is so appalling. Even if it was an accident a quick- so sorry I didn't realise I'll serve you next would suffice. Or the manager apologising rather then ignoring us!

My son and I came down for sunday lunch, to be honest the food was decent, a little over priced for what it was but as children eat for free on a sunday was actually good value. The BIG problem was that people are allowed to bring dogs in I have absolutely no problem with any animal at all, have owned dogs over the years and adored them. But we had three around us and one in particular didn't stop yapping, and the owners did nothing to stop it. Very inconsiderate and annoying. If you are in the werrington area and want a good sunday lunch without feeling like doctor do Little then I'd suggest the Blue Bell about 300 yards away. Same food if not a little better and never had a problem with barking dogs!

Went here for lunch with some friends on a Friday afternoon. It was pretty terrible service. I ordered a coffee which took ages to arrive. Food took ages to arrive and when it did one of my tapas dishes wasn’t cooked so I sent it back. When it arrived again it wasn’t cooked for a second time. I asked for my money back and instead of handing me the card machine to refund my card I got given change which was annoying. We visited on a Sunday but took advantage of the Tapas menu instead of a traditional roast. It's nice to have this option rather than being forced into Roast dinner. Dinner was served quickly as it wasn't very busy. We had baked Camembert, Hummus, duck spring rolls and sticky pork. Unfortunately there was no bread served to begin with, and then very little after asking. With two courses relying on bread to eat them this was not ideal. The other dishes were acceptable enough although they were clearly just frozen bought-in items. All in all it was not too bad, reasonable value and we may well return in the future. The Morreti on tap was good.

Terribly rude staff, served drinks 10mins before closing then asked us to leave four times by four different rude and aggressive members of staff in the space of 5 minutes including the owner/manager then when we were unable to down our drinks they then proceeded to turn off the lights to leave us in darkness and then as the staff were leaving in their cars they proceeded to shout to us abuse from their car windows whilst we waited for our taxi. Closing time was 01:00am and our taxi picked us up at 01:07am. The manager then proceeded to tell us when we said how rude this encounter was and that we wouldn’t return that he did not care and our business would not affect them. Shame to be treated in this way especially as we are locals in the pub and also have brought in friends and family, we shall be taking our business elsewhere and hope to find a friendlier local pub which appreciates repeat customers and makes the experience enjoyable and not be made to feel like hindrance. Have been keeping an eye on this place since the renovation, so here goes. The food is quite good but expensive and a more traditional choice of typical pub food would be welcome alongside the existing menu. Interior design is excellent. However, outside......where do I start? It is a disgrace. A shed door has been hanging off its hinges for weeks, the 'garden' is strewn with empty cans. Broken glass doesn't get swept up. Parasols have fallen over and not been picked up. There is a length of wall full of weeds. Weeds are growing all along the front of the building and the gutter is full of cigarette butts. Scruffy, scruffy, scruffy. By far the worst incident was after Halloween when someone had thrown up directly outside the front door and again at the side of the pub. These piles of vomit were never dealt with and eventually dried up. Revolting. This place could be a prime asset to the village, but surely any discerning customer would avoid it solely on first impression of the outside. Someone has scratched a game of noughts and crosses onto the arm of a lovely leather setter. Perhaps this is the level of clientele they want to attract. Great potential if sorted out. Staff are lovely.

To be honest disappointed - the Chorizo Burger was well overdone. One other meal came out 5 minutes before 2 others - that really is poor at best and with no explanation. Little things like having no condiments on table and having to wait to get someones attention just to get salt and pepper - look it was ok - the place is done up nice and staff are pleasant but if you can't get the basics right and flip a burger then people like us will go elsewhere.

A group of friends visited the Cock Inn on a Friday night for Tapas and Wine (not forgetting the Gin!) we had a great first visit to the pub. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. The Tapas selection available is extensive and very good value. It’s good to see a great pub refurbished in Werrington village! We are looking forward to visiting again soon.

I went to the Cock Inn on Saturday and it was lovely. I have been there twice now. First time I had crispy chicken strips and chips and beans. Then I had for dessert was a toblerone cheesecake with custard and it was delicious. The staff was nice the food was nice and the table service for waiting for food was good. The second time I went to the Cock Inn was lovely as well. I shared baked cambember and that was lovely had the same main meal that I had last time and that was nice. Then I shared a Nutella cheesecake and that was delicious. The staff was lovely the waiting was good. The food is amazing there I would keep going there.

I had a gathering here on Saturday night to celebrate my birthday with about 20 people coming along. An area of the bar was reserved for us, which was great. Even though the pub was busy we had plenty of space.

The waitress was very friendly and helpful which is why this got 3 stars, wouldn’t rave about the food the Camembert was hard in the middle and half of my meal was cold which they did warm up when asked. Two of the cocktails wasn’t available and a lot of them don’t actually say what’s in them on the menu. The atmosphere was good on Saturday night quite busy with live music. Next time I would probably stick to just drinks there.

Beautifully refurbished pub, with a great very friendly atmosphere. We went on a Friday night, had great selection of tapas, generous sizes and good value for money. Gin's a plenty, and giid wine selectiin, again very fairly priced. All bar staff were upbeat and friendly as we're the waitresses. Would highly recommend this pub.

It seems the bar staff/ management have not taken on board the negative comments from 2/3 weeks ago from unhappy customers. My wife and I visited this pub on Saturday 22/09/2018( 2pm), we also used to drink here when it was a proper pub, where you could get a nice welcome and a sandwich with your drinks. Anyway I digress , I also stood at the bar waiting to be served, but all I saw was a barman who seemed to be stressed with his job and a female behind the bar ringing up food orders taken from the tables. It wasn't really busy and when the barman did come to me,there was no greeting from him just a blank look and , "no we don't "when I asked if the pub still served sandwiches, so we ended up with a pot of chips each, only because there was nothing on the menu we liked. We found the pub had zero atmosphere while we were there, which was very disappointing as we looked forward to seeing the old pub. I cant see us returning anytime soon either. I end by saying if you work behind a bar , you must be customer friendly at all times, and have some sort of personality to go with it,

Well plenty off food tapas don’t order to much. Cheese board well that’s a story and a half. Order normally a cheese board and your scrapping for a little slice. You get three or four good slabs and lots of it. However the hummus was dry and tasteless. Every thing else great value.

We attempted to eat here this evening for my mum's birthday. when we arrived we got sat at our table and our drinks order was taken, no problems. our drinks arrived and we then proceeded to look at the menu for food. unfortunately we then heard a commotion at the bar and one of the bar staff was having a go at another member of staff. he was swearing at this lady to the point where she was full on in tears, it was awful !!! we felt so uncomfortable we went to the bar to just pay for our drinks and leave. they said they were in the house and the couple in the room also left at the same time as us. as this was a first time visit this was very disconcerting. the man behind the bar also made some rude comments as we left. what a poor way to treat anyone especially paying customers. such a shame and i doubt we will return. you do not have a go at staff in a place with customers in ear shot. I hope this poor lady has a massive apology from the individual as it was totally unacceptable on all levels !!!!

In the old days, I can recall sitting in The Cock of an afternoon, slowly drinking alcohol, writing books (I partially wrote perhaps half a dozen novels I here), and waiting for the Delaine bus home. The pub looked tired back then, but it lit up on a Friday and Saturday evening, with bands. There was always sport on the two TVs, and a jukebox supported by friendly locals who would select earthy tunes in short, it was a proper village boozer. Then it lost all that after the last landlords had decided they'd had enough. A succession of managers ran the place, and for whatever reason, it was driven into the ground. I had high hopes when I saw the refurb plans. And to be honest, the pub looks fantastic. On my visit, there was a wait to be served. Three bar staff then appeared out of nowhere, and served someone out of turn (bad practice. Bar staff should remain behind the bar, even when it's quiet). I ordered a pint of Fosters, and it was £3.80. I was sad because the new Cock Inn seems to want to her rid of regular punters by raising the price of a pint of cheap lager to ridiculous levels. Previously, I used to drink Amstel in the Cock, and it wasn't the price of a pint of Fosters. I dread to think what the prices are now for Amstel. In spite of those thoughts of halcyon days spent writing in the Cock, I'd rather write in my local, pay less, and not have to listen to people eating food. All in all, it wasn't a good experience. Can't imagine this pub being crammed with "locals" and guys lookimg for a couple of beers after work. I hope you do well, guys, but for me it's a no.

Service was friendly and prompt, they were very accommodating and no problem with us bringing a 2 year old. Keep up the good work guys, great experience.

I took the family there as we knew the pub has been refurbished. Nice decor with numerous seating areas, plus a separate restaurant area where we ate. A high chair was available and we decided to go for tapas. The staff were really attentive and cooked a piece of fish for our 2 year old. The food was super with really large portions of tapas, as opposed to their places like in Stamford. They also do special wine and tapas deals on a Wednesday and a fizz and tapas on Friday. We’ll definitely go back!

We were really excited about the refurb, we went for lunch and were very disappointed! We had Tepid chips, dry chicken and a strange curried lamb. Noone was very happy, the service was very slow. We did decide to go back for tapas, but this unfortunately was also disappointing. We won't be eating there again, but will be going back for the ambiance and the beer.

Great to see the new Menu here and to see it much busier as a result. We booking a few hours in advance and recieved a wonderful warm Welcome upon arrival. Our Waitress, Ellie, was lovely, friendly and attentive. Whilst the Menu is limited, there really is something for everyone and as expected with a Tapas Menu, it's so nice to try lots of smaller dishes instead a couple of large ones. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience this evening and will return again.

Four of us ate here in the restaurant. Starters wild mushrooms in cream/garlic on bread. Mains - gammon, braised beef, pork belly and fish and chips. Desserts apple and rhubarb crumble. The service was excellent and food hot and tasty. Excellent portions and well priced. Only one suggestion- the crumble top needed cooking/browning more. it was pale and tasted floury. Also be nice to have some background music as only a couple of tables occupied.

Just had Christmas afternoon tea at The Orangery. The staff were friendly the food very nice, however we were seated in the side conservatory which was cold and devoid of any kind of Christmas atmosphere or decoration. Burghley always looks lovely at Christmas I don’t understand why they can’t make more of an effort with the part of the Orangery.
