The best restaurants serving British food in East of England

Under new management since August and the young barman has put so much effort into enticing people to this lovely old Inn. Venue hire, pool tournaments, live music, poker nights and accommodation, it's a great place for a pint and to spend time with your mates!

Had a Sunday lunch in here with my partner on Easter Sunday. Absolutely fantastic food with a great range of drinks to choose from at the bar! Can’t recommend this place highly enough. If you haven’t had a chance to get down and give this place a look since they reopened make sure you do!

Disappointing. Very busy and hard to get served. Genuinely a stressful experience at the bar, and today was talked over by barman which was rude. I’m a regular pub goer all around Cambridge and local area - really enjoy visiting and sampling beers and hospitality in each. I’ve been back to this pub several times over the years owing to its location, and, sadly, it consistently rates as one of the worse experiences.

Great location, what a shame it did not live up to the expectation. First of all we booked a table for 4 to enjoy the Sunday roast, only to find out they had given our table away to 2 people how does that happen? Apologies and 20 minutes later we sat down and eventually we were asked for our drinks order..... brilliant we can now relax, drinks arrived, we then ordered food. We ordered cauliflower cheese with our mains for the waitress to return 10 minutes later advising no cauliflower cheese left 'Stunned' as this was advertised as a vegetarian alternative which one of or party ordered for this reason. Roast beef (served pink) is the detail on the menu, well sadly mine and my friends were overcooked, so we sent them back, replaced but even then the beef gave the impression of catering style rather than carved.

Hi we went there for dinner, the place was clean and tidy, the service was ok, we were in the rear restaurant which was pleasant but had no atmosphere. The food was ok but not quite the standard of other places we have visited in the area. It’s worth a visit.

On Sunday 6th April, we visited the Boars Head as we often do as a family to celebrate a birthday! The staff are very warm and welcoming and helpful especially Meg, Ollie and Amy. The food is always good quality with great choice and the atmosphere is always nice!

Waited over 45 mins for food (not busy) food came then burger was whipped away as wasn't ours, right one came out with a waitress who fully swore. Food was dry and gammon was so salty all looked like it had been under heat lamps for a long time! Mine was missing stuffing. But darnt ask as extra gravy took 10 mins. No apologies at all. Total let down

Steve and skye looked after us really well , really attentive and professional. Food was delicious. . Been back for a roast today. Lovely.. Cant wait to return...........

Nice hotel in a good location and a great breakfast. Staff are really friendly and helpful.

The service was very slow. We will not be returning any time soon. It took an age from start to finish. Ages to get seated, served drinks as bad served food. Staff didn’t seem at all interested or bothered about the delay.

This pub was a really good find. Served by friendly staff. There is plenty of outdoor seating front and back (lovely garden) with BBQ area, outdoor sheltered TV, and several cosy pods. Nice eating area in doors. Spacious bar area with plenty of drink choices.

We had fish and chips and a fish butty. Both were very watery and tasteless. We never got everything that came with the food but also got food we didn't ask for. I ate only a quarter of the food and unfortunately felt unwell for the rest of the night with stomach pains and trips to the toilet. This was the only place we ate in.

The Engineer is everything a pub should be. It caters for everyone, is friendly, welcoming and comfortable. Great staff, good menu, comfortable seating areas, heated outdoor cabanas and lovely outdoor space
