Lovely little place, I stayed with a friend in the twin room. Lovely owner, lovely little set up. Feeling very wholesome and had a brilliant nights sleep!

Went to the Red Lion on a recommendation and was not disappointed. Lovely village pub with a chilled vibe and the food was 1st class! I had the on special T Bone stake and my lord it was delightful!! The deserts were so good too! In my 1st time of visiting I couldn’t fault it and will deffo be back. My son’s words as we were leaving were “ That’s the best pub I’ve ever been too”! Well he is only 11 years old!! 😆😆

Fantastic little country pub. Well managed by all staff members. Food outstanding homemade pizzas on the menu are fantastic burgers and outstanding roast dinners and some delicious homemade pies. Staff have a fantastic knowledge. And nothing is ever too much.

Me and my family had a Sunday roast. It was the 1st time under the new ownership, Gary. The food was lovely, but we could have done it with a little more. Good quality and value for money

Great food, had the gammon steak, was extremely thick. Impressed with management who dealt with a difficult guest. Service was quick and polite. Will be returning 👍

Often driven past and thought ‘could be a nice old traditional pub’ - checked reviews - gave it a go for Sunday dinner. Really disappointing. The interior looks really tired, dated, grubby. (Thought about walking out again) Staffing seems to be by teenagers mostly looking at their iPhones. Stayed open minded despite the interior. Sat down to table in a weird, dated annexe - a token posy sitting in stagnant water at the table that gave off a pong. (Stayed open minded) When the posy was removed - overheard the staff discussing the request to take stagnant water away with, ‘apparently, this smells!’ (Stayed open minded) Food came. It was like a prison offering. We were famished - there was no way of booking anywhere else this late. Chicken (whilst large) looked like it may have been boiled first and finished in the oven or deep fried - rubbery. Carrots were dry. Potatoes were nuked. A small, dried testicle shape of cheap revolting stuffing graced the plate. Mass produced packet gravy? I made an attempt with the chicken - left most of the rest. Paid without tipping. Left quickly with family. So, so disappointed. 100% will not return unless something radical happens to lift the appearance, layout, furnishing, service, food. People expect much more when they pay for a cooked meal away from home. This pub is in a beautiful setting. It should be a gem for the camra community, cyclists, farmers etc - it’s really slummy.

The old traditional village pub is back! The new landlord has restored the old character of the pub. Good beer and excellent food. From an old regular that has come back. Great atmosphere.

Been coming to this pub for 19 years and we live 30 mins away,it’s changed hands a lot since Lou and Jason left and hadn’t felt the same since they left, but Gary has taken over and it feels like it use to a home from home, resonable priced drinks and food again,always feel welcome and at home here,Gary is a lovely manager and has settled in nicely.

We had heard the RL was under new management so we thought we should give it another go. We're very pleased we did. We got a very warm welcome and despite the lateness of our arrival and the kitchen being closed at the end of a very long day for the landlord, he knocked us up three of the best pizzas that we've had outside Italy. Thanks so much Gary, you saved our Sunday. We'll be back.

Much better food than before in my opinion. Friendly staff and management. Would 100% recommend going here but may be worth a.call 1st to make sure they have the space etc etc. Well done to the new owner/owners. Dog friendly. Country side sort of viewing. Everyones happy and friendly. ❤ ✌ 🌎

Gary, Chanice and their staff are just the best. Their new menu is brilliant and good prices. This evening I had a pizza baked in their new pizza oven and it was superb. The food is always excellent and I look forward to trying other things on the new menu. Totally recommend

Had lunch here today and the food was lovely. The new landlord and bar staff and cook were friendly and made us feel very welcome. We wish them well and hope businesses is successful. We shall be revisiting soon.

Had lunch here today 06/07/24 and it was great. New landlord and his staff made us feel very welcome. Main course was lovely fish & chips and scampi and chips and our puddings, cheesecake and apple crumble with custard were delicious. We will definitely visit again. Highly recommend. .

Sunday lunch, absolutely lovely. Food was fresh and well cooked. We both had beef. Crispy roasts and huge yorkshires. Great welcome and service. Would 100% recommend

Lovely little pub in Great Offley, cosy and dog friendly. We finished a nice walk around the fields to the left of the village and really needed some refreshment. Unfortunately we were too late to order any food so we settled for a quick drink before we went off to find food.... (A disastrous affair!) Lots of people coming and going, chatty and friendly after their own walks etc around this lovely village. We will return, hopefully earlier to grab a bite to eat. (I think they stopped serving around 15:00) Good selection of draught beers and a couple of ale's should suit most people. Parking is good, with an overspill car park just across the road to the right side, as you look at the pub. The menu did look good, although without being able to try anything, I can't offer any insight or score so don't take the lack thereof as a poor offering.

On the day we visited there was limited menu but what we had was good. There was little attention paid to us after our initial greeting,we were the only diners and there was no atmosphere. This is not the first time we have been here and in the past have enjoyed our visits. I don't think we will be going again.

A little cramped and the tables are fairly close to each other,but it's a nice pub,staff were very nice,and the food was nice.

Very disappointed with the menu. Less than 7 choices for a main. No gluten free food. No kids menu. Dessert stated sorbet. The waiter said they don't do sorbet. So why put it on the menu ?! Don't be fooled by the menu on the website, it's nothing like the one they give you. Use to be a lovely pub, gone done hill. I won't be returning.

First time we have been new landlord very limited menu and not what’s advertised on the web site , very limited but very good nicely presented and freshly cooked and nicely presented beer very nice with a choice of 3 real ales all well kept

The vegan nut roast was actually decent, all veg cooked perfectly, the Yorkie was excellent, staff really friendly, great atmosphere, cosy chairs. Very pleasantly surprised!! ☺️👍

I shan’t be returning The manager/barman was abrupt, curt and not at all an advocate for the hospitality industry The food came promptly and was enjoyable For him to complain that he’d been there for 18 months and considered it too long was also off putting

About 3 weeks ago I Had a meal at the Red lion in offley as we was down visiting family, and whilst out in the pub garden I watched a mouse run backwards and forwards from the kitchen. The manager was rude and Obnoxious and very dismissive, made us feel as if he really didn’t want to be there. Me and 3 other family members all had fish and chips, and that week we all came down with food poisoning, drinks also took ages, considering it was only my family and one other table in, we definitely won’t be returning Agian.

First time at Red lion and wouldn’t return. Dining room was empty and cold. Was surprised by a different menu to the one online. Tried to order a pizza which apparently had been off the menu for a while but didn’t update the menu nor did they let us know when we sat down. Burgers were exactly the same as the ones from a burger van lol and had been squished into a large roll like a burger van. Chips were strange and stale? Customer service was average. All in all wouldn’t come here again

Owners have changed I think. A year ago this was the best pub for food and drink around offley- now it is beyond sub-standard. Such a shame.

Booked as attending wedding along road. Telephoned to book as explained 1 member of party in wheelchair and 1 with walking difficulties so needed ground floor rooms with accessible shower. At no time did they state rooms not in pub but in old outside building. On arrival very shocked as totally unsuitable for our parties - there were 3 very old steep stone steps with no support rails to get down into rooms. One of our party actually fell while trying to get down them, damaging ankle, knee and head. My husband had to help me in and out, as well as helping my sister with her husband who can barely move his legs. Rooms very poor, long cables leading from front door to TV on wall as well as draping over radiator to TV. Our bathroom was up a steep flight of stairs, dangerous for me during night. Continental breakfast for 2 nights consisted of 3 boxes of cereal, a refillable bottle of unknown milk and 1 carton of orange juice! The other room had 2 boxes of cereal and milk. We went to local cafe along road which was delicious and highly recommended. We did not know checkout time, phoned when got back Friday night and told on wall - nothing there only fire instructions. Firstly told 9.00 then little while later 10.00. The evening meal was probably the saving grace as food was freshly prepared and very tasty.

Stopped with my wife on the off chance that the restaurant was open on a Monday. Enjoyed a very generous and tasty starter and main course. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Will definitely be back again.

I encourage others to do their own research before they travel. This my opinion Luton & Steveange are both ** censured ** ... The country side between those towns and to the north are great for walking and with good pubs .. The Red Lion, Great Offley is a good place to rest during a walk .. In front of the bar I found chairs that was very comfortable and soft. I was hungry so I gambled on a sandwich ... The bacon & sausage sandwich was very good and not greasy. The small salad that was included was good with fresh and crisp vegetables. The side salad that added to British pub food is often uneatable but those preparing the meals at Red Lion got it right. The pub is British .. I ordered the sandwich without crisp but it was added to the plate .. A meal without crisp & chips is not always easy to the get in UK ... I was bit surprised that the staff didn't offered any cutlery or napkins .. Well .. I am used to fix things my self so I fetched a fork and napkins from a drawer near by. Other plus points +The real ale on tap was well kept and good. + In my opinion food and ale was reasonable priced .. + The pub have a beer garden that look nice. + The male toilette was clean and easy to access. + The WiFi was good and the password was easy to locate.

We attended a wedding reception here, it is a fabulous place, the food was fantastic, one of the best BBQs I have seen. Staff were great and attentive. It is also situated in a lovely village. Thoroughly recommended and we would seek this pub out if we were ever in the area again.

Stopped off for a bit of lunch today while on a 🚲 ride with my young son. Went to order some food at the bar, and was recommended a portion of freshly made quiche the chef had just made, served with chips and salad, at a reasonable price, which we had, and which was absolutely lovely! Will certainly be visiting again!

Stayed one night while attending a wedding down the road, was a little worried after seeing previous reviews but i needn't of been. We booked 2 seperate rooms as another couple were also attending with us, we checked in nice and easily and was made to feel very welcome, he (i think he was the manager) grabbed 2 sets of keys and took us outside and showed us where to go and told us we can use the side gate to come and go as we pleased, we had room 5 and our friends had room 3, nice comfortable room with a ensuite with shower, shower was nice and powerful. Bed was really comfortable. Will definitely stay again. Definitely value for money..

This pub is amazing, staff amazing, food unbelievable and price great. I had the most amazing wedding hosted here, Sunday lunch the next day was great as well!!!

Been here twice recently, both times the food has been outstanding & only topped by the staff. Everyone we dealt with was really friendly & helpful. We will definitely be back soon.

We were guests at my friend’s wedding reception Sat 26/08/23 The food was excellent Bbq Meats and salads all cooked and prepared on arrival good selection. The service was good and we would say a very good evening. Highly recommended

Attended a wedding, lovely polite attentive staff, amazing food and plentiful, variety of areas creating space to chat or dance. Stayed overnight in a comfortable ensuite room which saved the need to taxi elsewhere. Lovely evening.

What a fabulous pub this is! Great food, great atmosphere and the staff are amazing! Chris, Martin and Zoe are a great teammate , who go out of their way to look after you. Prices are affordable, highly recommended.

Went for lunch and had warm chicken and bacon salad with a lovely honey and mustard dressing. We had chips which were the best I've had in a very long time. Cheesecake was very nice. Staff very attentive snd polite. I will definitely being going back.

The Red Lion is situated in a lovely village but the Landlord was somewhat unwelcoming. I ordered a tuna & cucumber sandwich which came with a few tasteless crisps & some salad at the princely price of £9.95. For that I expected quality but alas it it less than mediocre. I appreciate the cost of food has increased drastically but lots of other pubs offer much better for much less!

Without doubt the worst Sunday roast and dining experience of my life. We should have been alerted by being the only diners in the pub on a Sunday lunchtime.....that just about said it all. There were seven of us in a family group and we all had the roast, either beef or chicken. The beef was overcooked and was like leather, the chicken was lukewarm and the potatoes were clearly frozen and undercooked. The Yorkshire puddings were Aunt Bessies which was probably a saving grace as I'm sure if the chef had made them they'd have been as diabolical as the rest of the dinner. We complained to the waiter after the meal, as no one came to ask whether we were enjoying the meal whilst we were eating and even though he relayed our comments to the owner, they refused to make any deduction whatsover to the bill. I will definitely never visit this pub again and would strongly advise that you avoid at all costs.

Without doubt the worst Sunday roast and dining experience of my life! I visited with 7 adult family members and we all had either the chicken or beef roast. The beef was of poor quality, over cooked and like leather, the chicken lukewarm and the frozen potatoes undercooked and also lukewarm. No member of staff came to ask whether we were enjoying the meal and as there were 7 of us we decided it would be too much hassle and would have delayed our day too much to make a complaint during the meal. We did however inform the waiter of our dissatisfaction which was clearly evident by how much was left on the plates.....please see the photographs. However when the bill came there was no deduction whatsover and when I queried this, the waiter replied, "I've told the owner and he said there is no discount". Shocking food, no atmosphere (we were the only diners on a Sunday lunchtime - that should have been advanced warning of what was to come!) and service was appalling. I would avoid this pub/restaurant at all costs.

The worst roast dinner I have ever had! We should have been put off that a pub on a Sunday lunch time didn’t have one single table dining in there. Starters were nice but the roast was worst than a school dinner, potatoes had just about been boiled, beef was dry, frozen aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire’s and the whole lot was cold. Wasps were flying around whilst eating and not once did someone come and ask how our dinner was. We all left our food and complained at the end yet we’re still charged £200 for what was a shambles of a meal. Very disappointed, avoid at all costs!!

Good run of the mill food in a prime location of the beautiful Offley. Always seems to be in the middle of a long walk or ride! Front garden facing the road and parking spaces is a bit weird but the staff couldn't be friendlier and always quick to serve.

We visited today for lunch. The guy on the bar told us to choose a table and he came over and took our drinks order and gave us the lunch menu. Two had the fish and chips and my husband the scampi. One said the chips were a little hard. I had the hot chicken & bacon salad. I had expected the chicken to be breast sliced and the bacon cut up. It arrived with 3 rashers of extremely crunchy bacon and chicken cut in like batons placed on top of the salad. The salad was fresh but it lacked the look of an attractive dish. Desserts ok but not home made. The pub is nicely decorated and everything clean. The food just let them down. We will not be returning.

Popped in for lunch. Great choice of food. I chose jacket potato with tuna & cheese. The potato was hot with a nice soft, fluffy centre. Side salad was crisp and fresh. The manager and bar staff were extremely friendly and chatty. What was originally a quick lunch turned out to be a 3hr visit. Will most definately visit again

Had a lovely last minute booked meal. The food especially the chips was amazing. The 2 lads working that night were a credit to the pub. Even though the kitchen was shut one went out his way to ensure my friend and I got a pudding and my goodness, it was so worth it.

Lovely pub situated in a quiet area, very friendly staff willing to help no matter what. The food was ok, the prawn cocktail starts was great, the steak and ale pie was lovely with chips, but the roast pork was under cooked and was still slightly red in the middle. The absence was fine to start with, but the only think that put us off our meals, was a gentleman that kept clearing his throat all the time we were trying to eat our meals it was a real turn off and killed the day.

We went there today after a walk from Great Offley, a pint of Thatchers cider and a bottle of Coke £8, a bit steep I thought.

Roast dinner was OK but service quite poor, certainly wasn't busy and staff walked past several times but left us with empty plates for at least 20 minutes, no offer of pudding or other drinks or even being asked if our dinner was OK. Payed at bar in the end as no one around after other table got served. Shame as used to be good.

To be honest it has 3 (& not 2) because the two members of staff workinf were very apologetic to all the customers and I felt sorry for them. We were staying overnight (attending a wedding up the road) and decided to have lunch before heading over....there was another elderly couple waiting to order too when the Chef marched into /out of the kitchen shouting lot's of expletives!!!! Hence the feeling sorry for other staff.....we were given a complimentary drink as way of sorry. The accommodation was very musty, we did move rooms & see our friends room - all 3 were musty sadly....the whole stay was "Fawlty towers esq" the visit/stay did it's purpose but would not recommend for many reasons.....again I felt sorry for the 2 staff there and to you, thank you.

Haven’t been to this pub in quite a while. Decided to stop here for lunch. Friendly and helpful staff. The pub looked nice and clean and a lot different from my last visit. Food was cooked fresh, so waited a while, but worth the wait. The pricing is very reasonable and food plenty. Lovely and fresh and tasty. I would recommend this lovely pub and the food. I will be returning next week for a birthday meal.

Nice drop of beer and food menu looks good.However drinks and food prices much too high and way out of my league so I doubt I will go back unless by some miracle my lottery tickets come good.

I ordered via deliveroo a few items and when they arrived I was not impressed. The chicken burger was raw. See images. I called the pub and I'm sure a 10 year old answered it and when I explained the chicken was raw I got a response ... yeah? It went silent for about 15 seconds and I then had to say so what are you going to do about it? Can I speak to your manager at least? The manager apologised and then said they will cook another one for me so it will be about 15minutes. I waited 30 minutes and had to call again and once again the young girl answered. I explain what I was calling about and i was waiting for my burger to which her response was its here. The manager then grabbed the phone and said she will deliver it personally. Guess what... I waited 30 minutes and they have not delivered it. I live 2 minutes away... literally. Awful service. Extremely disappointing food.

Really welcoming pub - and superb range of wines. Food is excellent in terms of both choice and quality. Easily overlooked pub, with an unassuming exterior, but well worth a visit.
