Visited The Victoria on bank Holiday Sunday great atmosphere, great food highly recommend.

Music was a little loud as we were visiting family and couldn't really talk..The pizza was amazing best I've had in ages

Simply, always the best pub in Hitchin. Fabulous food, great atmosphere, friendly & attentive staff who really seem to enjoy working there. Family friendly too...we go at least once a month with our 2 children (under 11 years) & we take all our family and friends here. Even through the pandemic, and now the Vic remains the best pub in Hitchin.

Never had a bad meal here. The food is impeccable, always. Big fan, recommended to friends and family and they now love it as much as we do.

Excellent gluten free choices, with details on the menu. I thoroughly enjoyed the gf tasty chicken burger. Normal burgers and chicken dippers also went down well. The atmosphere was good although very loud and extremely busy as the tables are packed in (outside in the covered area). We would have preferred a NON smoking area, however the tables were smaller.

Food and drinks a tad pricey but saying that well worth it, Would recommend

The food is generally very good, although the chips we had today were clearly undercooked and despite me raising this after finishing our amazing pizzas the server didn’t offer to get them change

This pub looks unassuming from the entrance but has an amazing atmosphere with fantastic food and drink with a surprisingly large beer garden

Top boozer with a lovely outside space Serves fresh pizza which looked delicious but I didn't try this tike round....

Lovely greeting by barmaid who told us we could sit at a 'reserved at 7pm' table as it was only 4pm! We had a drink, lovely atmosphere until bar man kept coming over and looking at us walking past and lifting the reserved sign to read it. Came back 5 mins later and said this was the local table who normally come in at 4.30, who were all stood at bar staring at us, and basically hounded us out of the pub. Such a shame as really nice venue but if you're not local you can do one!

Been to this pub regularly when in Hitchin, and although it is a Green King pub (red flag for real ale drinkers) this pub is actually fantastic and always has at least 4 Real Ales on, at least 2 are independent and have always been in very good condition when we have been. TVs showing sport and we caught a live band there once and it was a fantastic atmosphere. There is a barn out the back with a bigger TV for sports, and a pizza kitchen in the (very big) garden

Went for an early lunch on Saturday. There was a table reserved from 2:30pm but the staff were fine with us using it until then. We had the salciccia pizza (Dirty Dough) and buttermilk tenders (BLC) and a couple of glasses of very nice organic rosé. The food, service and wine were all brilliant. Highly recommend. Would have added a photo, but unfortunately it would only be of empty plates!

My wife booked a table at this place as we were meeting friends, I'd never heard of it so I read some of the reviews & it wasn't good but I thought that's try it,...wow, lovely food, great service, friendly staff,my only gripe is its very loud

A great place to have a drink. But cold outside in January

We returned,having been away for 8 years. The Vic was rammed on a friday night as I remembered it eight years ago.Outside appeared even larger with the addition of street food kiosks and more seating. A mix of drinkers and fast food diners. Excellant choice of beers with local brewers, Tring piggeries especially good. Staff aways giving 100%. Despite heaters, outside it was still very cold sitting on the outside benches. Only negative for me was the amount of children under thirteen and babies who are being exposed to adult pastimes like swearing and smoking.At least my parents had the good sense to leave me at home with a child sitter and go and enjoy themselves in the adult world on their own.

Nice enough pub! Pizza is ok. Just be prepared: super overpriced. Makes you to pay service charge without even asking, just hands over the card machine and gives no notice. Not sure what service exactly we paid since we had to deal with the bar directly.

Food was incredible, we'll be back to try the pizza next time! Unfortunately the tables are packed in so we were constantly being knocked into as people tried to get past our table on the way to the toilet. It also meant it was difficult to have a conversation.

Food was great when it finally came. Had tickets for a gig and waited for an hour and half almost for food. One staff member who collected the bill apologized but the rest didn’t seem bothered at all.

A lovely little gem on a pub, lovely and cozy inside with a large and covered garden. One of the highlights are the two food brands serving food most days at peak times. I had a burger and buffalo fries, the burger was great and juicy with crispy bacon and a good quality bun which is a often over looked item, and the buffalo fries were crispy and spicy with a dollop of creamy blue cheese dressing on top. Unfortunately these are also the reason for the four stars, they were completely drenched in buffalo sauce, almost as if the fries were the cruton to my buffalo soup. Did I finish them, yes! I don't like sending food back and waiting for a replacement, but I hope that more care is taken in future as if this had been a sprinkle rather than a drowning it would be a five star meal.

I enjoyed this for some leaving drinks. I went big on buffalo wings with ranch and buffalo fries. So loads of buffalo sauce but it really was good. Wing whre really hot in temp. Chips less so but still delicious. The burgers the rest of the people got looked good.

Visited Hitchin with friends a couple of weeks ago and this was our favourite place to go! The food was amazing! Great portion sizes and good value for money! The seating area outside was lovely! And the staff were lovely!

Amazing place. Beer and a wood fired pizza on a lovely late summer’s evening. Atmosphere was perfect, staff friendly and the food and beer great. First time here and will be back often!

This is my local. Best pub in H-Town. Does great food - brilliant pizzas, burgers and Sunday lunch. Small inside, but a great space in the garden with heaters. Gets very busy in peak times so best to book ahead if you want to eat.

The service and atmosphere was great. The main reason for my 3 stars is the food. I attended with a group this evening. This was my first time at the pub. I got a chicken burger and fries with something described as chick'n salt on top. The burger was probably one of the worst burgers I've ever had. The burger was completely cold. A tiny piece of chicken and little to no flavour. The chips were nice and warm but the extra £1.50 or whatever it was, was basically a tiny splatter of brown salt over the chips (not worth it). Other members of the group who got chicken were not impressed. The pub was busy so the food took a long while. The group members that got pizza enjoyed their meal. I should add that the people doing table service were great and super friendly (once you got their attention).

Was drawn in off the street by the tunes and the aroma of delicious food. My ears and nose did me well. The food was as delectable as it was aromatic and alluring. The band that delighted my ears from the street did not disappoint. I danced. I laughed. I sang. Unfortunately I do not remember their bands name due to the beer that was flowing like water into my gullet. I shall be back!

My new favourite place to go. I can't believe I've never been here until last week. The food is literally the best I've had. I had a Margherita pizza, chicken tenders, garlic bread. My partner had one of the burgers. I wish I had a bigger appetite as I tried his burger and wanted some more. It was cooked perfectly - so juicy. The staff is super friendly and actually a reasonable price for the quality. Beautiful environment, lovely chill atmosphere. Oh and the fries were amazing and so was the gelato! I'm literally going to bring everyone I know here - I love it!

Great for drinks and catching up

Love this pub but went today at about 5pm for drinks and food and to sit outside. But when we got there the whole place was full of babies and children and strollers so there were no seats outside. Got a table inside and the children on the other table were banging the cups and making such a noise I thought I was in a daycare centre. Not sure I would go back again for this reason. What happened to a good old pub that’s not taken over by children? There were more children than adults !!

Absolutely brilliant day & evening at the weekend festival. Staff were amazing as really busy, food was delicious & music 🎶 was fantastic. Well done everyone

Visited The Vic a few weeks ago with a large group of work friends and the service was fantastic. Didn’t need to move from our outside benches as the lovely waitress took our orders, brought our food and even provided individuals bills. Between us, we ordered and ate most items off the menu and everyone was happy. I ordered the Fingar-Licking Good chicken burger and it was amazing! Portions were big and prices very reasonable. Cue a return visit today for hubby’s birthday. Food came promptly after ordering, with everything spot on and as ordered (we asked for a few alterations!). As a burger connoisseur Hubby was very happy with his BCN triple burger and I, with my Strip Club tenders. Both children polished off their burgers with my youngest proclaiming it was lovely! Staff were very friendly and engaging. I can’t wait to come back and try everything else on the menu!

Popped in here for pizzas (served Thursday - Sunday nights). The pizzas were tasty and mine was nicely enhanced with truffle oil. Friendly service. I'll definitely go back.

Looks a nice pub. But beware if your travelling football fans this isn’t the pub for you even if you bring along 100 customers ready to spend money. No singing no having a good time even if the locals enjoyed your company and atmosphere we bring. If your for a family day out and dinner person this is definitely the pub for you

Best pub in Hitchin. Atmosphere is a great vibe, staff are amazing, considering how rammo the pub gets, food is unreal, especially if you’re veggie and fancy a proper treat and the frozen drinks are 10/10.

It's OK. Food is ok. Bar is a nightmare to get a drink. Some of the bar staff are miserable.

Came to celebrate a Birthday - group age range was 1-65. Dietary requirements including Veggie, Dairy allergy & a diabetic. Jim served us & was amazing going through the menu with us to make sure everyone was catered for. We love the atmosphere here. Dogs are welcome. The staff work so hard to make sure everyone is having an amazing time. We’ve been before but never with a bigger group. Our table was booked for 1pm, at 10pm 4 of us were still living it up on a busy Saturday. The Vic really is a community treasure & we look forward to a summer of long boozy lunches filled with amazing food & an amazing atmosphere.

I have been lucky to eat at many grest places, yet the one I always look forward to is my weekly meal at the Vic. Both pizzas and burgers are some of the very best I ever had. This place and their team deserves a lot more recognition and visibility, if they were London based they would feature in top lists to eat at regularly.

Great staff, great location, the food is tasty but the pizzas need to be cooked longer, or the oven needs to be hotter before the raw dough is added, pizzas need that crisp underneath and on the crust, the textural experience is paramount to pizza. Cannot fault the flavour but until those pizzas have an audible crunch it's just going to feel like it's lacking. (Edit: I now know I don't know what pizza they serve and its my own stupidity, but I do still like a crispy pizza) But to their credit they're absolutely smashing pizzas out and the flavour is still a 10. Parm chips were undercooked and had no flavour of truffle, such an underwhelming side also doesn't compliment the time that goes into the pizza. Edit: in reply to the replies, no doubt you guys will smash it on the next visit, your quality is still a 10 and your explanation makes sense, that's more down to me not knowing about the style you serve but I'll come in with an more open mind next time. Hospitality is hard and you guys have a great location, great staff, great seating, great customer care and a desire to be better. Oh wow! What a place! Went there with the family for dinner and had pizzas, they were delicious!!! Their beer garden at the back is so lovely even on the winter, the staff were super friendly. If you're in the area I highly recommend.

Our son and his wife had eaten here previously, enjoyed it and decided that we should have Sunday lunch here when we visited them. We had booked a table for 1pm but were able to change to 3pm without a problem. We ordered the roast meal, nut roast, garlic truffle funghi and desserts. Portions were ample. We all enjoyed what we had. The pub was very full but that didn't affect the service. I can recommend the Sunday lunch which was at a reasonable price including drinks. One negative, my pet hate of adding a service charge to the bill.

The food is absolutely amazing. Inside is snug but that's because its clearly popular with such good food. The staff are very friendly and have a great sense of humour. The burgers are just the tastiest I've had and all very good value for money

Great anarchic night of cheese, wine and real fun. I was probably the eldest attendee at 70 and really enjoyed the young and creative atmosphere. This was the actors first gig of this nature and they nailed it. Difficult to tell who were actors from the cheese and wine experts! Must all attend future gigs

Always a great place to eat and drink, atmosphere is really friendly and local. Yet again another excellent Roast this Sunday, and as someone who doesn’t normally like gravy, theirs was great. Burgers are superb and the pizza is amazing. Doggy always makes a beeline for the door whenever we’re in the area, so she obviously approves also!

The nicest burgers in a warm and inviting atmosphere! Our friends recommended this pub and I’m glad they did. We came on a lovely busy Friday night and made sure to book because it is so popular. We all ordered burgers (I had a veggie burger - would highly recommend if you’re a veggie) and they were unbelievable! The best I have ever had! The pub itself was very cosy with lovely fairy lights and really great atmosphere! The food was so good I was still thinking about the meal the next day! Can’t wait to come back!
