The Town Fryer in North Hertfordshire

This used to be a good shop but quality of food has been deteriorating. Had takeaway cod & chips. Large cod portions turned out to be paper thin, heavily coated with batter. The fish was over cooked, and as the portions were very thin, they became hard & dry. Quality of chips was poor too as there were a lot of small dry chips which were inedible. Similar experience in the recent past so its not a one off experience. Will not visit again.

Fish was mostly tail, and food was luke warm on delivery. It had been sitting around long before delivery as batter was soft. Disappointed.

There is no point in delivering early. I ordered for 6.00pm because that's when I wanted it. I don't mind it being a bit late, but early is useless.

Ordered the food for the Family at 5pm and didn't received it until 6.10pm and once i got the food saw that the delivery guy had an other order in his bag which it makes us wait for ages and have cold food so he does 2in1

Our order of Fish and Chips for the whole family arrived without any chips!! When we called The Town Fryer they informed us that they were unable to send anymore as we had ordered from Justeat and to claim a refund on the website.Unacceptable!

fish and chips are always good, delivery from just eat is becoming a pain, tonight was an hour late, last week was 3 hours late! although I did cancel after 2 hours waiting driver turn up after 3 hours and delivered to wrong house! despite I have house no. on the wall, I'm seriously considering using another delivery service which means my usual fish n chips restaurant will miss out as other delivery service do not go to this restaurant for some reason deeply disappointed in just eat 🙄

the food was nice, however compared to moat other fish and chip shops thr portions are small. was astonished to see how small a medium cod was and large chips barely fed 2, which was a shame and had higher expectations

the smallest bit of cod I have seen in a long time It had a strange taste. Didn't taste like. Cod at all. And the more i had the worse,it got I half of it.and the chips where Dry and cold. I only had 3 or 4 and left the rest. Very expensive for what I got. Would not recommend to anybody. And will not order again. Very disappointed

Worst Fish and Chips ever. Chips soggy, a medium fish not much bigger than my Goldfish and stuck to the paper. Won't use again.

I had been in hospital all day without food and to wait until 8:17pm for a delivery wasn't the greatest. The delivery times kept changing. Food was great although slightly cold when receiving.

Good food, deals reasonably priced, kind and generous servers. Opening hours a bit strange though - Hitchin Boys’ Students are an untapped market!

Delivery time was over 2 hours. Absolutely awful service. Just eat should be ashamed to be honest.

A long wait followed by food delivered on a push bike so obviously it was cold!! I have no idea why push bikes are a form of delivery for hot food?! Shocking!

First time Ive ordered to collect on just eat. We arrived on time to collect our order. Told a member of staff we were there and were told it would be a few minutes so stood to one side of the counter waiting. After about 15 minutes a different member of staff asked us what we were waiting for and said the order was ready and waiting for us but we'd been standing there and hadn't been told. Food was lovely as always from The Town Fryer but a little cold. Won't use just eat for collection again

Disappointed, the supposed mushy peas were an anaemic glutinous mess. They looked they'd been pre packed weeks ago and stored in the fridge, horrible. The fish and chips were standard. I had pre ordered by phone, but still had to wait half hour. Chips were expensive, I remember years ago when potatoes went up in price and chips had their price increase, but then the cost went down again, did the chip shops put their prices down accordingly, not a chance. Why oh why don't chip shops use proper malt vinegar instead of that horrible acetic acid. Needless to say my next fish and chips will be brought from elsewhere to compare.

I ordered a chicken burger, expecting it to arrive with salad, garnish and maybe a sauce, but no it was just a frisbee like piece of chicken put inside a dry burger roll. Not at all appetising. Chips were nothing spectacular, in fact they were a bit cold when they arrived. Doubt if I will order from them again, but if I do I definitely will not order a chicken burger. Delivery was on time, prices are a little expensive too.

Not sure what happened this evening but a fair few of the chips were rock hard inside and we received the wrong sausages I'd ordered and kids couldn't eat them. It was rather disappointing, and not the usual standard.

Food was great although we was sent small chips instead of the large we paid for. The delivery time was honestly unacceptable.

Shocking. £4 for large chips gave us about 10 chips each as a family of four. I phoned to complain and ask if I had been given a small portion by mistake. Was basically told to go elsewhere in the future. Use Atlantic Bay up Westmill. We will be from now on

poor piece of fish considering I ordered a large Cod, Suspiciously maybe because I did not purchase in a shop but via an app I received a poor piece of fish. Poor value / quality!

Very quick delivery and best fish and chips around!

Really disappointed this evening unfortunately. The 'large' chips we ordered were really small and overpriced at £4.00 and they were a soggy clump which ripped when separated. Fish were fine but the batter stuck to the paper and was impossible to remove it so lost half of it. Bad value considering all of this. We won't be coming back.
