The hotel was built in a great design. Quite neighbouring and surrounded by green fields. I found it was not very easy to navigate and the corridor is small and narrow in some areas.

My daughter was married at this hotel 10 years ago and for her 40th birthday we decided to have a family lunch at Lyttons. It was difficult to obtain a menu but after discussions with Carli on reception we booked 4 adults 1 child and a baby in arms. I assumed we would eat in the restaurant but we're shown to an empty bar with 2 round tables pushed together. The menu choice was limited but edible however the child meal was inedible. Your waitress agreed to discounted child's meal but our overall experience was very poor. If you were unable to accommodate us in the restaurant this should have made clear to us at the time of booking. What should have been a return to a happy location turned out to be a massive disappointment. Colin and Jill Mudge

Had afternoon tea here. Hotel decor seems a bit worn, however staff were friendly. Service a bit slow. Coffee and tea lukewarm, but a good selection and unlimited throughout. Sandwiches were fresh, scones tasty and warm but cakes very sickly and sweet. Needed more variety. No refills on the sandwiches which was a disappointment. Not the best afternoon tea, but was okay. Wouldn't really go back.

My son and myself had a Travel Zoo voucher for a two course lunch here for a mothers day treat. When we arrived we were the only one's eating in the restaurant. and that was still the same by the time we had finished, which does not excuse the does'nt care attitude of the staff. It’s hard to explain, but we felt that as we had the deal, we were not being treated as fully paying guests! The restaurant is like a fine dining experience/establishment but seemingly not if you have a Travel Zoo Voucher. Food was standard not outstanding, which is a shame, as I wouldn’t come back here even though we don’t live far away. We had to ask for the bill and then had to go again to search for someone and ask for a card reader to pay for our drinks. Not acceptable at the prices you charge

With some trepidation, we booked Sunday lunch at Letchworth Hall Hotel for a family celebration of my wife’s birthday - we were not disappointed! From the outset, staff were friendly, helpful & most professional. In particular, Chloe in the restaurant went out of her way to make sure our special meal was enjoyable. Although Sunday lunch can too often be disappointingly mediocre elsewhere, our 3-course meal at Lytton’s was delicious & excellent value for money. With the added bonus of a comfortable lounge in which to linger over coffee & drinks, our party were all very impressed. We look forward to returning for our next significant event.

My husband and myself had a Groupon Deal for a 3 course set meal on Saturday evening, and breakfast the following morning. Very mixed review really, felt quite a strange atmosphere in the restaurant, we sat on very close tables of two which felt like the “Groupon” area... No bread rolls offered, even though I had soup, service felt rushed and semi professional, husbands wine was poured for him - mine was not.... very hit and miss on service. It’s hard to explain, we felt like as we had the deal that in some way treated not as a fully paying guest?! The restaurant is like a fine dining experience/establishment but not if you have a Groupon Deal. Food was standard not outstanding, which is a shame as I wouldn’t come back as a fully paying guest even though we don’t live far away, they are missing a trick there! Wine was fairly average at £20 a bottle. Breakfast the following morning was totally different, allowed to sit ANYWHERE we wanted, buffet food was piping hot and good selection and staff polite and professional. Two very different contrasts really. Just a little “meh” really. Good value on the Groupon Deal though!

Our stay at Letchworth Hall Hotel included a dinner and breakfast at Lyttons. Our dinner was lovely. We started with Tempura calamari rings which were excellent, followed by lamb casserole which was tender, warming and delicious. We had a smooth and reasonably priced Tempranillo to accompany the meal. Surprisingly the crumble dessert was the most disappointing dish as it tasted quite floury (as though it had been made in a hurry and not mixed through properly before it was placed in the oven).

Just returned from a great weekend away at the Letchworth Hall hotel. Staff, from the moment we arrived, very friendly and helpful. We had a Groupon deal and had upgraded to a superior room. We had room 67 on the first floor which was very nice and overlooked the garden. Part of the deal included a three course meal. Not a great deal of choice but you could also pay extra and have something from the main menu. We did not do this as we found the selection to our liking and all the food we had was delicious and nicely presented. Good choice of wines and like all hotels quite a mark up but that's what you expect. Drinks at the bar are on a par with pub prices £5 for a pint. I happened to mention when I booked that we were celebrating our anniversary and when we checked in we were given a complimentary drink also a anniversary card which was a nice touch. All in all I found this hotel to be very good and would recommend it.

I mentioned to the restaurant manager that I found it not to my taste, when we paid bill he didn't charge for it as I didn't eat it. You can't ask for anything more than that for service, A* to the young restaurant manager. We booked the hotel 3 nights later on my homeward journey mainly because of the fantastic customer service we received from him, we had the prawns again on our second visit. As part of our Groupon deal stay at the adjoining Letchworth Hall Hotel, we were treated to a three course dinner in the Lytton's restaurant. After a warm welcome from the host we were seated immediately and offered drinks and a roll. The meal was a set menu with plenty of choices, all of which I would happily have ordered. The starter I eventually chose was the Prawn Tempura. Presented beautifully on a slate, the huge prawns in fluffy batter were amazing. They were complimented by a mild chilli sauce and delicious Asian slaw, both of which completed a delicious first course that I thought would be hard to top.How wrong I could be!Continuing the Eastern influence, I decided on the Panko Chicken for my main.To say the flavours were out of this world is unjust. The (I guess) Thai influenced curry sauce that accompanied the perfectly cooked chicken was absolutely divine. My only criticism would be that I would have love to have had slightly more on the plate to enjoy. The flavour combined with the fresh coriander garnish made for a truly memorable dish.To finish the meal, I opted for the cheese board (being a fan of the savoury, it was refreshing to see this often omitted dessert from set menus available!) and was presented with a full flavour Stilton, creamy Brie and mid strength cheddar. A perfect end to a brilliant meal.As well as great food the service was absolutely exceptional. Our waiter (I believe his name was Jake) did a superb job of making sure my wife and I were enjoying our meal and even though everything was fully paid for (with the exception of the bottle of rose I ordered) I was more than happy to leave a generous tip in gratitude to the waiting staff. If you are staying at the Letchworth Hall Hotel I fully recommend having at least one meal in this great restaurant.

Booked an afternoon tea for mother's day and was pretty disappointed with the experience. The exterior of the hotel isn't particularly pleasing. It looks like a higgeldy piggeldy collection of extensions in different styles. The grounds are pretty non -existent - there was a fountain or two and some daffs growing along a path but really it was just some grass surrounding the hotel itself. Inside the hall itself is nice but not that big and not much has been done to accentuate the age and history of the place. There was a hoover left lying on the floor, staff looked in disarray. Fair enough it is a busy day on mother's day but we waited nearly 5 minutes to be seated. Doesn't sound long but you expect to be greeted and shown to your table as soon as you arrive. Staff were clearly flustered and stressed. No one smiled. We had to ask many times for our tea pot to arrive and when it did we had nearly finished tea. The tea itself was fairly good - nice sandwiches and cakes. When we left we had to go up to get and pay for the bill as staff were overstretched and couldn't get their attention. The woman who took payment looked like she really wanted to be somewhere else. No eye contact, no smile, no thanks, no conversation "did you enjoy your tea?" or anything like that. No "thanks" when payment given. All in all not a terrible experience but disappointing and much could have been remedied by proper customer service.

We all sat for 3 hours in a cold conservatory, at last coffee arrive at 3p.m. luke warm and one at a time, no cream or another hot cup offered. We came for an afternoon tea today at the Mecure Letchworth Hall hotel. It was a special treat given by our son and his girlfriend. We were seated in the old hall complete with a minstrel gallery. There was a good choice of tea. The sandwich selection was very good. The plain and fruit scones was slightly doughy in comparison to an excellent cream tea recently in Walberswick. Would have preferred strawberry to the fruit jam. The clotted cream was a generous helping. After this, we could only managed to sample the delicious walnut cake slice and fruit tartlets. Sadly we have to leave the rest and shortbread biscuits. The service was efficient. A very pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

We are members of the Gourmet Society so what could have been an expensive meal was an absolute bargain (in fact we saved the annual membership in this one meal alone).A real evening of luxury began with excellent starters and the mains were equally delicious. in addition the deserts were beautifully presented.Superb quality. Very attentive and professional staff, despite many of them being teenagers at most.Would highly recommend.

Been a long time since I last visited this place. Wasn't happy with it then so was a bit dubious when my partner and I met up with some friends there last Wednesday. However it came as a surprise to see it had been updated to extremely high standards. The staff were very welcoming and attentive. Bit of banter went on. As for the meal itself what can I say? Really enjoyed every course. Servings were more than enough and very tasty. Very quick service. Well done all the staff from the kitchen to front of house. Another local place to add to my list of eating places. Recommend it . Will be back

We visited on a friday lunchtime and were surprised that we were alone in the dining room which was a shame given the lovely venue. At lunchtime there is a fixed price menu £ 15 for 2 courses and £4 for a third course. The food was excellent quality and a choice of about 6 or 7 dishes for each course( I would recomend the oreo cheesecake top marks for taste and presentation. ) This restaurant is ideal for a special occasion the staff were properly trained and attentive . There is disabled access to the restaurant although it is necessary to ask the waiter to open the french doors from the inside.

We weren't expecting much from a large chain hotel in terms of food, but both my partner and I were pleasantly surprised. We were staying overnight, with dinner and breakfast included. Our starters were fresh and tasty, mains ( roast pork for me, sea bass for my partner) both very tasty and a cheesecakse served with chocolate spoon was delicious. The wine was a Malbec, faulted only for being screwtop. Breakfast the next morning was comprehensive in its offering, and I had flavoursome sausages, beans, hash browns and tomatoes. Staff were courteous and helpful whenever encountered.

The menu was fine, the service was quite good. Paying this kind of money in these surroundings I didn't expect vests and T shirts. But, hey ho, not a huge problem. Not many in, very quiet. Food a bit old fashioned to my mind. It was OK but I expected a bit more.

We were staying at the hotel and had a table booked for 7.45 . We came down to eat at 7.45 were greeted before being shown to our table in the conservatory .. After being handed the menus we made our choices ...salmon and ham hock followed by minute steak and roast pork . The starters arrived and looked nice ... The salmon starter was well presented tasty .. The ham hock was in a small jar with some salad leaves , picalli and toast on a slate .. This was tasty too but half a slice of toast was a joke as had to eat the majority of the starter on its own ... The mains arrived next . The steak was served with some lettuce with mayo in a small pot and some thin chips in a wire basket ...nothing fantastic but all ok The pork roast looked great ...it came out all stacked up on the plate ... But under investigation I found most of the dish to be mash and roast potato under the meat ... Vegetables were next to non existent .... However the meat was lovely with some crisp crackling and full gravy . With the mains eaten and the plates cleared we sat back and waited for the sweet menu .... 30 minutes later we were still waiting for the menu and had to ask another member of staff ! We both settled for cheese and biscuits which was plentiful and again was served on slates . The conservatory I thought was on the cold side ... And the staff over worked ! Hearing the next couple complain about the chicken they were served not being cooked was not good . To sum up ... Only average and I've had a lot better in some eating pubs .

I would love to be able to give a full review of this restaurant but..... please read on ....I was staying at the Mercure Letchworth Hall on business and booked a table for 7.45pm on arrival. I was not informed that they were particularly busy and therefore presumed that a table would, in fact, be provided at 7.45 give or take a few minuted.Duly I pitched up a couple of minutes before 7.45, was given a menu and asked to take a seat in the lounge for "a couple of minutes" whilst my table was prepared. The couple before me were shown to their table within 5 minutes, but I was left sitting for almost 20 minutes before I was eventually noticed by a waiter. On complaining that I had been waiting for almost 20 minutes, I was told that there would definitely be a table within 2-3 minutes.2 minutes later, a waiter duly pitched up with a colleague and gave me 2 options, firstly to wait another 10 minutes or secondly that they would open up the conservatory where I could sit ON MY OWN (travelling solo on business) and end up looking like Billy-No-Mates.By this point I was absolutely ravenous and was not impressed with either option and so went off to a local pub 5 minutes drive away instead.Note to Lyttons management: When I book a table for 7.45 at your expensive and supposedly high class establishment I expect it to be ready at 7.45, not 8.15.

This was arranged ahead as it was an 80th birthday lunch with all age ranges including two children. Table was chosen and we got that on the day and it was nicely laid and we had even had copies of the menu, both adults and children's, before the event. Had a drink in the bar, all very nice attentive staff. Made our menu choices and when a couple of people asked for small variations it became clear that most things were pre prepared and no changes could be made. Starter was fine, children's portions rather large, adults quite small. Main course had a roast beef option which carried a supplement of £4.50 each which seemed a bit much when most people would tend to go for that for Sunday lunch. We asked if they could serve the meat medium for some and well done for the olds. They said of course. It was all VERY well done but reasonably tender. The serving was particularly odd, not at all like a traditional roast, which was why we chose a Sunday lunch as older members of the party like this. Plates arrived with a tower of veg/potatoes with 2 slices of meat on the top and a Yorkshire pudding the size of a tea plate. When the layers of the tower (under the very well done meat) were inspected they consisted: mashed potatoes surrounded by 3 roast pots which had gone soggy due to mixing with the mash. A layer of shredded cabbage, two very hard baby carrots and, bizarrely 4 quarters of beetroot which had coloured the whole mass pink. A teaspoon of gravy on top of the meat was not enough and we had to request and wait rather a long time for horseradish sauce. Not what we had expected at all and certainly not as described on the menu. We all felt the plate had been plated up sometime ago and microwaved. Puddings, again, sounded tempting but the bread and butter pudding would have made Oliver silent, no one could finish one portion, it was so dry and came with clotted cream rather than custard which would have at least moistened it a bit. Children's menu definitely won the day. Why not stick to the tried and tested roast with bowls of veg and potatoes?? Very average indeed.

Myself and thirteen other family members attended the restaurant at the Letchworth Hall hotel for my mum's 80th Birthday lunch recently. Being a large party, we had booked this Sunday lunch several weeks in advance and also informed the staff of our meal choices beforehand. There was an excellent variety of starters, main courses (three different roast meats plus vegetarian option) and desserts from which to choose. There was also a children's menu which had dishes such as fish and chips and sausages. All portion sizes were very generous, but so delicious that everyone cleared their plates! We had a very nice table in the restaurant which was prettily decorated. Service was good - we did not feel at all rushed and everyone enjoyed their meals very much. At £16.95 each for three courses and coffee, we thought this was fantastic value. We understand that the chef has worked there for many years, which says a lot about the hotel. We took along our own birthday cake, which was brought out at the end. There was a lovely atmosphere - several other birthday celebrations were also taking place that Sunday lunchtime. The setting was very attractive - the Great Hall was welcoming and the restaurant itself was light and airy.I would highly recommend a visit - we will certainly be returning!

This used to be a good shop but quality of food has been deteriorating. Had takeaway cod & chips. Large cod portions turned out to be paper thin, heavily coated with batter. The fish was over cooked, and as the portions were very thin, they became hard & dry. Quality of chips was poor too as there were a lot of small dry chips which were inedible. Similar experience in the recent past so its not a one off experience. Will not visit again.

Waited over an hour for food, when it arrived was cold, hard, unappetising and mainly inedible. The place is dirty and in disrepair, the toilet is through the end of the kitchen and outside, where they dry their tea towels on an airer with some of them dragging on the floor, the toilet door doesn't lock and bubble wrap on the window. Saw a rat scurrying outside. Furniture broken. Ok if you want a flash back to the 80's which is about the last time it was decorated by it's appearance along with it's televisions and music. The staff walking around whistling tunelessly and loudly is not what I would call good customer care or service, they actually managed to forget half the order which was an entire meal for one person. I could say more. Avoid at all costs.
