An hour-long wait, questionable hygiene, and zero food. We left hungry, disgusted, and utterly unimpressed. Avoid this chaotic, unhygienic disaster.

We visited the Hitchin venue last week, a I am afraid to say we were rather disappointed. The service was slow, despite the place being pretty empty. We placed our order 1 full burger, 1 naked burger and 2 portions of Onion rings plus drinks. When these were brought to us, there was no fries, and one portion of onion rings missing and only one serving of the red pepper relish. The missing finally arrived but it took a ridiculous length of time. Now, in addition, I am aware that the naked burger come with either bun or fries, but am still dismayed that the menu does not make this clear, and the naked burger is the same price as the full burger. Yes you get a bit of green salad, but really?!? It is about time this was sorted out! Update The current Glasshouse menu and staff are FAB Beverley our server and James the chef both deserve especial note. Beverley was very friendly and engaging; helpful we felt that nothing was too much trouble for her. James the chef did an excellent job with our Fish and Chips and Fish Goujons and chips. Both extremely tasty. Well will defo be back. An excellent change and worth taking the chance on!!!!

If I could give it a 0 I would, after waiting an hour without food being served and the capacity being only half full, with most of the tables empty, the only excuse is that they are very busy!!

We attended a brunch on Saturday 17th May 2025 3pm - 6pm and what a complete shambles it was. We arrived promptly at 3pm, first drinks were not received until 3.25pm. Our food order was taken around this time. The first of our meals arrived at 4.40pm the rest at 5.20pm. The orders were all mixed up in the kitchen for different tables and then given out, so none of us ate together! There were only a couple of waiters (the one who looked after us was very good and very embarrassed). No management on site, no one running the event, all young members of staff not trained effectively. The drinks were ok and the food was quite good - surprisingly. The care and attention from our waiter was good when he could help us, as he was run off his feet! The 'jazz' man who was playing for the duration of the brunch finished way before the time, and we had no entertainment or background music for most of the time we were there, until one guest requested some music to create some kind of atmosphere and it was switched on! No savvy used here as this should have happened as the jazz guy left! If I were running a business in the way that this event was run on Saturday, I would expect it to fail massively. Needless to say, we will not be returning - ever!

Came here on a date night with the mrs and was served by Bev. Such a funny and enthusiastic individual who gave me a recommendation for the fish… it was nearly as big as my arm. Cracking food and overall 10/10 experience! Will be back

It was suppose to be bottomless, Food was great however we never recieved till 6 3 hours after arriving Was badly run The bar staff did their best for what they could manage However management running was awful Was suppose to be a jas event with a saxophone player who left after 20 mins was told he was on a break to find out he just left? So was lied too , so literally had no music, wouldn’t even turn on some music

Unfortunately there has been a change of menu and the only items that are gluten free are the steaks and beef chilli nachos. This resturant used to have a fantastic gluten free menu and was really accommodating so this is frustrating. I do hope management reconsider their menu and change back to a more suitable menu for all diners.

Had a lovely buffet for a cousins birthday shower and the team were attentive and jovial. Would definitely book again! Thanks Lexi and Bev you were amazing 😍

My friends steak was ordered medium rare (it came out well done) when told the person laughed and said alright. Before that they ordered wine (which tasted like fish food) which was changed. Would not recommend.

We had arranged a 21st gathering for our daughter and with the help of Danni who was amazing, we had just the best evening.. The help Danni gave us from showing us around initially to helping choose how much food to order and then on the night being on hand to rearrange furniture so my daughter had it set up exactly how she wanted - was just outstanding.. The food was great, the music was fab and overall we had a wonderful evening.. Thank you so much to Danni and the rest of the team.

Pretty disappointing. Service was slow and poor - no eye contact and no acknowledgment. The beer was pretty poor two. Two attempts at a Guinness which was never going to settle so opted for Brooklyn lager which wasn't cold.

Your online booking system wasn't working, not a great start, had to ring and check/book instead. Food took a while even though only a couple of other diners were there. Enjoyed our meals. Payment issues with the card machine held us up. Beverley had to ring someone for assistance. We were late for the function we were going to. Overall a stressful experience unfortunately.

Food great, staff great. However place was virtually empty. Table of 4 in there when we arrived they left soon after then 2 or 3 tables of 2. So no atmosphere. They had a promotion on on the food which maybe should be more widely advertised to get people in.

Appalling service! Pre-booked and pre-paid for food for a party of 20. We all arrived on time, but waited more than an hour for the food. Only to be told after an hour that the kitchen hadn't even started cooking, as none of the front-of-house staff had communicated to the kitchen that our party had arrived. 2nd year on the trot we had the same party at the venue. There.won't be a third time.

A prebooked & prepaid birthday meal. 24 people at 12.30. At 1.30 we were still waiting and when we enquired where the food was we were told the cook didn't know we were there. That was just the start. Last meal arrived about 10 minutes after everyone else had finished. A 'blue' steak was returned for being overcooked to be replaced by another overcooked steak. There were other issues with food. No one came to clear tables until we started ourselves about 20 mins after all meals eaten. Eventually dessert arrived without cutlery. After asking for cutlery staff brought knives & forks! We had to ask again for spoons. There weren't many staff serving and what we could see of staff behind the scenes, all staff were quite young and maybe out of their depth. There were other problems to many to mention. Never coming back

Came here with some friends for the afternoon and everything was great. Food, drinks and service were superb. The staff were brilliant and a particular shoutout to Scott who was absolutely great. Thanks for a great afternoon and we will be back again

The food was nice and a reasonable price. The stand out thing was the service. Lexi was friendly, thoughtful and informative. We were informed of anything that wasn't on the menu and what could be done as a replacement. She asked questions and was very attentive. Very good customer service, rarely found these days.

The food was nice, fair price for the portions and we didn't have to wait long, but we didn't like being relegated to the side because all the tables in the middle were apparently booked, only for nobody to turn up all the time we were there. I can understand one or two no-shows, but an entire area? I think it's either done for the staff's own convenience, or we were discriminated against, which I hope not. Either way, not the best service.

30th BIRTHDAY DISASTER There was so many things wrong with this place, which is such a shame for the venue, as the place is beautiful. We got seated and had to wait about 20 mins for someone to come over to us for drinks order. The cocktails were poorly made, I sent my margarita back because it just tasted of triple sec, no tequila at all, the espresso martini didn’t taste like it had alcohol in it. The table ordered, chicken strips, two chicken ceaser salads and a steak All the chicken dishes were so dry they were horrendeous (tastes like they’re been under the heater for ages, no moisture at all) The steak was asked to be rare and came out medium well It was like they knew the food was poor as not one waiter came over and asked how the food was, they didn’t even ask when we were paying. They charged one of the table twice as the card machine had apparently broken so had to take two payments, trying to make took over 30 minutes with all the issues with the card server. Extremely disappointed as it was my best friends 30th and won’t be returning

We went on a Friday evening at 7 and it was weirdly quiet with very little atmosphere. There were quite a number of items missing off the menu (including everything that I had intended to order sadly!) but the food that we did get was good. The service was very mixed, the young guy that was looking after us was very sweet, if a little inexperienced. They have a podium by the door which implies it is a "wait to be seated' situation but no one came so we went to the bar. We didn't get any salt and pepper on the table and no one asked and no one was around to ask. It was fine overall but could have been much better.

I was looking for a place for lunch and to do some work. Such a lovely setting! Danni, the bartender, was exceptionally helpful and friendly. Nice choice of beers and an inexpensive, tasty lunch menu. Highly recommend!

Issues from the start. I booked the bottomless brunch for my 40th and had 6 people pay and pre order, with 2 more trying to the day before the cut off date but they were unable to and I then received an email stating my booking was cancelled. No reason given. I tried to call 6-8 times and left messages but did not have anyone get in touch with me until I emailed them 4 days later. I still decided to go ahead with the booking but that was a mistake. We were not served for around 20 minutes past the start time and an hour later I was still waiting for my first drink! We were told that they had no pornstar martinis even though they were one of the 2 cocktails advertised in the upgrade which myself and another had paid for. They ran out of the only lager that was part of the deal also. The staff were clearly stressed out and did not know how to handle our complaints. We were offered a restart of our 2 hours and a different cocktail but decided we would rather half of our money back and lucky we did. It took 20 minutes for one of my friends to get a lemonade after that! As we were leaving my details were taken and I was told I would be hearing from them Monday to arrange the refund. It is now late Tuesday evening and I still haven't heard from them. I will have to chase them up and I wouldn't be surprised if there is more to add to this laughable experience once I have.

We went to The Glasshouse for a friend's 40th birthday, booking the bottomless brunch. It was a really bad experience to be brutally honest! Our drinks took an hour to come and after 45 minutes we were told that they'd run out of the cocktail ordered and also the only lager that was part of the package. The waitress (not her fault), said that other tables were upset too! The food was nice but the portions were really small and the Bellinis were disappointing. We were offered a refund but despite emailing them to follow up they've ignored us. The management just didn't to cope with the set up at all. NOT recommended!

We had a fantastic experience at the glass house hitchin, atmosphere was welcoming and cozy, and the food was absolutely delicious. Our servers, Dani and Ash, were exceptional – attentive, friendly, and made us feel right at home. They were both knowledgeable about the menu. The service was top-notch, and they went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back again soon!

Honestly? It was a bit of a shambles from start to finish (and I don't have particularly high expectations). We were a group of 6 out for a friend's birthday. Firstly the birthday girl ordered a cocktail which was meant to come with candy floss. No candy floss came. The server didn't tell her when she ordered that they were out of stock and didn't apologise on bringing it out. There was no coffee as the machine had been broken for over a week... My other friend ordered a rare steak with fries. She got a medium steak (very tiny) with chips. They had to re-do it (it was bigger this time) so she was eating later than the rest of us. The two that ordered steak weren't given steak knives. When we ordered pudding, they came back to tell us they had no ice cream. They offered sorbet instead - but vanilla ice cream came out... My friend's ice cream came out in my other friend plate with their lemon tart. My chocolate brownie was basically a little square of chocolate cake, and there was no chocolate sauce as advertised. Definitely not worth the price. They also didn't bring over cutlery for the dessert. We had to ask twice and then they brought over 3 spoons for 5 of us that were having pudding. To be fair, my friend with the steak got her steak half price and a free pudding, so that was something. One of the servers asked us if we wanted anything else, and we asked for the bill. He was gone for ages. Then someone else came over and asked if we wanted anything else. We said we were waiting for the bill, which he went to sort it. While we were waiting, a third person came and asked us if we wanted anything else... I didn't get the name of any of the 4 servers we saw tonight, as they didn't have tags or introduce themselves. They were friendly enough though.

Such a shame but the service was terrible, more staff than guests when we arrived, looked like they were having a team meeting. They dispersed and eventually after I asked we got offered drinks. 20minutes later I had to ask again to order more drinks and food. 20 minutes later no drinks, they werent even being made and there was 3 people behind the bar with 2 people ordering. I asked for the manager and she was very apologetic and offered to to re start our brunch 50 mins after it started but by this point we preferred to cancel our food order and leave. Later on we bumped into other people who had also been in the venue who told us they had the same issues with service. Such a shame as we have had brunch there a few times before but this experience would most definitely put me off returning and wouldnt suggest it to anyone else either

I feel like I am reviewing a different place when I look at the comments! I don’t know if it was because it was between Christmas and NY but our experience was not good. We struggled to get served even tho it was very quiet. When we did, we were told that many of the food choices were not available, and also many of the wine choices. We struggled to get a clear menu of what my friend who has allergies could eat. It wasn’t that they were unfriendly, the person who served us just seemed to have no idea what he was doing. It was also very dark and noisy and just not a warm or welcoming atmosphere. My chicken dish was small and dry. Some of our party had the fish and said it was better. The 241 cocktails advertised we were told were not available even though it was one of the days specified on the menu. I would not return.

We had our office Christmas party at the Glasshouse and it was fab! Danni was incredible and helped to make the evening a huge success. Service was terrific, food was great a real 10 out of 10 experience. Thank you to Danni and the rest of the team for making the night so enjoyable.

The restaurant only had 1 other table waiting for food. it took 45 minutes for nachos to be bought out, staff was apologetic, but 45 minutes for nachos is a joke! The mains came out, all had burgers, all over cooked and rock hard, same as the bacon in 2 of them. chips also over cooked, rock hard. First time in there to eat since its changed name, wont be going back. Really disappointing.

Absolutely awful. After travelling one and a half hours to get here (halfway point for our group) to say it was a let down is an understatement. The food was awful, one persons food didn’t come out until everyone else had actually finished and yet they’d served the same meal to another table - why not sort one table at a time if organisation is that much of an issue. Side orders never arrived and at this point we said forget the pudding if we ever want to be home before midnight. The passionfruit martini I had was watered down and vile. No apologies when we complained, no attempt to rectify the situation. I would have thought having preordered and being the only table, bar one table of two people next to us, ordering food in the entire establishment it would be a breeze but apparently 2 starters and 8 main courses is too much to handle for this place. Save your money and avoid.

Check recent reviews before making the mistake of booking at this establishment. I was dubious as to how our meal would be, considering that the communication was dreadful throughout the booking process. We were asked to pay deposits & preorder, then we were told to pay in full, we experienced very slow replies to emails and unable to speak to anyone in charge over the phone. I ended up being given the personal email for the chef as it was impossible to contact anyone else front of house. We arrived and the table was not set as advised with candles, chocolates and place cards. Prosecco was brought over that we hadn’t ordered, no drinks menus were offered, no water on the table, all basic things for a group booking. We struggled to get anyone to take our drinks order and then lots of items weren’t available when we did finally get to order. Service was extremely slow in all aspects. Starters were served, but they were never cleared from the table despite only 2/8 people ordering. We had to ask for someone to clear our table and have our mains as we had been waiting for a long time. Preorder was not up to date despite being emailed to the restaurant and chef, requests for ‘plain, no cheese, no sauce’ were not adhered to, food came out at totally different times, all the side dishes missing. When the food finally did arrive, it was not worth the wait, everyone left at least 1/2 their meals except for two diners who were so hungry they did eat what they were offered, but the food was mostly cold, dry, tough and unpleasant. We waited until 3pm, we had been sitting staring at our barely touched main course plates for what felt like an eternity, ignored by every member of staff. Therefore we decided to give up on the entire experience and ask to skip dessert completely as we just wanted to leave. The ‘manager’ was extremely reluctant to deal with the issues, pretty much avoided speaking to us at all, claimed they were ‘sorting things out on their system’ we were waiting over 30 mins to settle our drinks bill. In the end we all paid individually at the bar, without even so much as an apology, absolutely ridiculous experience from start to finish, avoid.

Shocking! GM was useless and they were so understaffed with so many complaints, I’m surprised if they actually made any money that night. Over 30 minute wait for drinks which we then cancelled and moved on elsewhere

The service was awful - inattentive to the point of rude. Staff seemed inexperienced. Food was pretty average - chicken in the Caesar salad was dry, chewy and a bit burnt. Same issue with the chorizo in the kebabs. My friend is diabetic and ordered a sugar free pepsi, they brought a regular pepsi without saying anything and his blood sugars went haywire. Didn't have any decaffeinated coffee and also had no no dairy-free milk options. Trying to find positives to balance this out a bit but struggling. The fries were tasty and the cocktails aren't bad.

Where to begin …. I made this booking on line for the festive fayre meal and paid a £50 deposit . I was then rung the day before the booking to say that I hadn’t submitted a preorder . I said I hadn’t been asked to , I then received an email to submit a pre order , I collated my groups requests went to submit and was asked for full payment of £165.00 , even though I had already paid a £50 deposit . I did not submit the request and emailed the glass house ,explaining all of the above . I called on the morning of the booking , no answer so I left a message , I then received an email to say we couldn’t have the festive fayre menu as the kitchen needed a weeks notice , but we could have off the normal menu and we would get 20% off the bill for the inconvenience …fair enough . On arrival there were only 8 customers in the building , 1 waitress/ bartender and 1 person in the kitchen . We ordered drinks , and then food . 3 of us ordered burgers was told there was no lettuce …. Ok . We then ordered a second drink , and asked for the dessert menu to be told the kitchen was closed , this was at 8.45 pm !!!! So not only did we not get what we originally booked for we were told we could not have a dessert . The waitress got a ‘manager’ over who faced with 4 frustrated women bumbled his way through an excuse , it was clear that there was never an option for a festive menu as you hadn’t had the bookings , why advertise it then ? We were then given the bill but the £50 deposit I had already paid had not been taken off and I was told that this would be refunded to me as it was a holding deposit for the table , nowhere in my booking confirmation was this communicated . Needless to say I refused to pay unless the £50 was removed . The whole evening was really disappointing and you are falsely advertising for a service that you clearly can’t provide . What would have happened if I had paid the bill upfront as was requested when I went to submit the pre order , I would have been making this payment in good will when it was clearly a false pretence . We will not be returning as the whole experience was a let down and a disappointment !

I arrived without booking and was accommodated in the bar. I understand with Christmas parties etc it was likely to be busy but I wasn’t turned away so very happy indeed. I went for the BBQ Beef Brisket Burger. This came with fries and “pickles”. As a massive fan of burgers, fried and yes pickles this was a sure choice. I didn’t want to over eat so never ordered letra fries. Slight disappointed with the 3 thin slices of pickled cucumber but it was ok. The burger was amazing and the fries were seasoned perfectly. I drank the craft and clever house beer which was also very nice. Waited a little too long when looking at the dessert menu so decided against it, I was interested in the hot chocolate as I wasn’t feeling a full dessert but it was server plain as standard so decided to have 1 more pint of beer to finish off my meal. Would certainly go back, with friends of the wife for sure if I’m ever in the area. Thankyou for the great hospitality.

Just lacking the basics of service. Poor show when the manager lectures you not to confuse staff by asking for drinks. A decent manager would help massively with the disorganisation experienced. A great venue just missing that spark.
