Excellent roast dinners, the lamb shank was beautiful! Just completely fell of the bone! Nothing was too much trouble for Kayleigh, she really made it special for us, highly recommend

Came here last Saturday evening with a friend. We weren't overly hungry and in a bit of a rush as attending an event in hitchin. Having looked through the menu I fancied the camembert sharer as a main course and decided would have a dessert after. My friend decided it sounded good too. We were pleased with our choice. Freshly prepared, hot and tasty. Toasted garlic ciabatta with crispy chicken strips, salami and two dips, served with a lovely melting mini camembert. We chose cheesecake and chocolate fondant for dessert equally delicious. Our waitress sorry can't remember her name, was friendly and efficient. I will definitely be back . Many thanks

Three Moorhens Hitchin Hill by the roundabout . Large car park . Building as you enter could do with some tlc. A warm welcome when we entered. Very quiet when we visited so was nice to receive table service . Drinks came prompt and only a short wait for the mains. Pie & mash with veg and a chicken dish were well presented on hot plates. All was good , not 5 star but ok for a pub chain meal. Staff very nice , would call in again.

Decent sunday roast. Popped in late in the day, so a little dry but gravy sorted that!

Varied menu with some dishes we had not tried. Friendly and welcoming staff and background music pretty quiet, so you can actually hold a conversation without having to speak loudly. Good drinks menu. Fairly competitive prices. Overall, well worth a visit

Came in to try the new menu with my Mum, we were so pleased to see some old classics on there still but the new stuff is absolutely delicious!! I had the katsu chicken and mum had 2 courses off the light bites menu and said the scampi was cooked perfectly, the option for a smaller meal is highly appreciated :) we will definitely be returning to try the rest of the new stuff

Brilliant pub with excellent staff.. food is really good here, have never had a bad experience, much better than the next nearest pub, orange tree. Steaks are always cooked right.. sarah, isobel, lewis and kayleigh are great at their job and make sure you have everything you need, large garden and plenty of parking.. perfect pub.. Obed is a an absolute ledgend...

Can't complain about the food . It was good value for money. Beer was well kept and went down rather too well!! We last went to the 3 moorhens about 20 years ago. Unfortunately, it looks like it hasn't been painted since !! The restaurant area wasn't bad but the bar area was noisy . Staff were OK and friendly. I'm not sure we will return for a while because there are other pub restaurants nearby to try, but as I say, the food was good if you fancy basic pub grub.

Nice looking large pub from outside. You would expect from the lovely building and lovely big garden the usual Greene King Quality however the decor was clearly in need of refurbishment. Food was good overall especially the steak. However the salad accompanying various meals and starters looked fairly wilted and as if it had been out of the fridge for some time or possibly not as fresh as it should have been. Very good quality cask ale and drinks including Abbott Ale and GK IPA very nicely pulled and kept. Womens toilets according to my wife were rather unkept with blockages and not the levels of cleaning or upkeep you would expect from a big pub company. Bar area was busy but rather cramped as various big tables had been placed in front of the bar for a group of rowdy guys to watch the football from meaning you could only get to the bar easily from either end. We sat in the restaurant but there was very little customer service or welcome from staff. 3 male staff members were hanging around the bar for the most part watching the football and chatting with football loving locals instead. We ordered from the bar in the end as there was no restaurant service to speak of. Food was reasonably well cooked and served promptly and other than that service mediocre. Overall a potentially lovely pub but for a Saturday evening fairly quiet and obviously being let down overtime by what seems very relaxed and I bothered staff. Certainly not crying out for a further visit unless a recent manager is appointed who cracks the whip with the young 20 something staff members. Definitely missing a female touch !

First time I've visited with my family and thought the food and service was excellent. No issues whatsoever and the food was very nice. Would defo come back.

Poppy was our server tonight she did an amazing job with our group from start to finish quick to make sure we got what we ordered and the drinks were full. The food was amazing and helped guide us through with food allergies and made excellent recommendations based on the allergies. All our food was amazing and we left full, happy and well served.

Cheap and cheerful is the order of the day here. Think hungry horse 🐎 and your about there.

So so bad - would not recommend to anyone - starter without some of the ingredients - main ( when it came ) badly cooked and the staff never bothered to take a desert order - have filled in the survey 3 times and never had a reply .

Great service, very friendly, greeted and seated and ordered with a smile and humour. Food quick, enjoyed the burger. Although chicken in basket was quite dry and the chips tasted odd, we will likely come back and try other items as the service and location is so lovely.

Most of us had the turkey dinner. The potatoes were overly salted . My daughter had the chicken caeser salad and found that the lettuce hadn't been washed properly.

Called in here for lunch with an old friend. Very friendly staff, good selection of drinks and food at reasonable prices. As it was one of the sunny days in June we sat outside in the garden. Speedy service even though it was busy. Friendly customers as well which I always like. I'd definitely come back again.

It is my sons 30th birthday so myself , my son and three daughters went for lunch. We were served by Izzi and Poppy. The service was excellent, they were friendly very polite and happy. Nothing was to much trouble. The food was excellent and very well presented. Would highly recommend.

A grotty unkempt pub with clientele intent on including as many swear words as possible in their overly loud coversations. In terms of the restaurant, average food is served by slovenly staff. Awful!

This is an ok place to go. It's your good run of the mill pub food. We sat outside which was pleasant.

Went for some birthday drinks in March and have been back for more this month. Didn’t eat on this occasion but I really must complement this pub on the quality of their drinks. The crispness of the beer is amongst the best, if not the best around. It really makes a difference, not having to return to the bar because of petty things, such as dirty glass or unclean pint. A problem so many other good places seem to fail at.

We arrived mid afternoon, about 15:30ish. I was starving and thought why not try here, it's been some time. I walked in and the interior was pretty empty, asked for a table to eat, and was promptly shown to the back, tucked away. The surrounding area was pretty messy, food on the floor, on the tables, used napkins etc. As I said it was late afternoon, they could've been extremely busy and not had time to clear away. We looked at the menu and ordered drinks. The girl returned and said that my wife's choice of drink was not available and went away to fetch her second choice. On her return with the drinks, she then proceeded to pass us a list of food on the menu that was unavailable. In fact she would have been better passing a list of items that were available. Basically the pie, which neither of us wanted. The staff actually explained that the food delivery had not shown up that day, I'm just surprised that they hadn't told me right from the very outset that they had very limited food left. We finished our drinks and left. Overall, I can't put the blame on the staff for the shortage, but the overall cleanliness is down to the staff and management, and I can't say I was impressed. They may be understaffed, I don't know, it seems to be the way of things now that companies will strip back to the bare bones in the pursuit of profit. Next time we're in the area we'll probably try somewhere not too far down the road.

Went for lunch and the food was very good and reasonably priced. There wasnt enough staff for how busy it was but the staff that were there were working hard and very polite and professional.

Had roast dinner not impressed 1 small piece of broccoli a desert spoon of peas 2 bits of parsnip meat good Yorkshire pudding good.. really let themselves down as usually the food is a lot better quality such a shame. Did have a reduced menu due to missed delivery so hopefully will be better next time.

Went for dinner this evening with my mum and nan and had the sharing platter and the salmon fillet. Food was absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back. Probably the best meal we’ve ever had there and we have been a few times over the years. Only negative things were the heating wasn’t on so was a little cold sitting at our table and we didn’t realise we had to order at the bar at first. Gentleman at the bar and who served our food was very friendly and attentive.

Came for a meal with my family, despite being over worked and extremely busy, poppy and izzi were amazing, never lost their smiles and nothing seemed to be a problem! Couldn’t be more impressed with the service we received, food was delicious as well. Real well done, those girls are a valuable asset to the Moorhens :)

Lovely place for lunch with the family. Good value and great service. There are plenty of tables to sit at. We booked a table to be safe. Lots of free parking. I had the burger 🍔, came with chips, and the crispiest onion rings. Delicious.

We had pre-booked as it was Mothering Sunday, but then arrived half an hour early. This was no problem and we were seated straight away. Poppy served us and was very friendly and helpful. The macaroni cheese was nice with a really lovely salad, but the roast turkey seemed processed and a little disappointing. Overall we had a positive experience and would come back.

Visited for a family birthday, 6 adults. Very nicely decorated & furnished, nice warm atmosphere. Staff very friendly. Food menu is great, good choices. Most of us had rump steak, one had sweet potato risotto, one had salmon. Every meal was fantastic, very tasty & good portions, priced well too. Pudding selection is fantastic too, great tasting puddings, again great prices. Would recommend & will visit again.

Very very disappointed. Roast potatoes were frozen potatoes which were rock hard. Yorkshire pudding was hard and black. Beef was very fatty and the veg had seen better days.

Food is basic and a little over priced for what it is. Service wasn't great! One team member let it down for all! Took 45 minutes for desserts to arrive only for mine to be burnt. When we first asked where they were (30 mins late) the staff member decided to lecture us on how busy they were and never even checked with the kitchen. 2nd member of staff was much better and checked with the kitchen (we are fairly sure they forgot to send the order to the kitchen in the first place). Ended up not paying for the desserts but overall the experience ruined the meal.

Arrived for a pre booked table, we were early and were also seated early so far so good! Waitress was excellent especially with the toddler in our party, we didn’t catch her name but thank you! She did mention that there could be a delay for food because they were busy, thanks for the heads up, no problem for us to relax and wait a bit, the food arrived and wasn’t what I’d ordered, food came back with not entirely what i had ordered but close enough! All 4 adult orders were stone cold and I don’t mean warm but stone cold…. Pretty basic stuff but there you go, the waitress informed us that they have no more beef, we decided to move to another restaurant, no apologies in fact my wife was so disappointed in the lack of concern/apology that she approached a manager who was chatting to a staff member who was having her lunch, he appeared confused/unconcerned and said “oh” We’ll take our business elsewhere

Meet with the family on Sunday here, the food was lovely, quite busy, all the staff were fantastic, my children were looked with activities and crayons. Great parking too, a nice place.

Decor, location, service and food were all as good or better than we expected. Party of 4 and we each had different dishes and we were all impressed. But then the 'music' (sic) started. Loud, off key and badly sung. Couldn't wait to pay up and get out. Pity.

We met some friends for dinner in late October and had such a wonderful time, that we ended up being there for 5-6 hours. My husband and I had the crispy Asian style pork belly, which was absolutely divine. I believe it was new to the menu, but wow, what an addition. Really tasty and highly recommended. The staff were very professional yet very friendly, and we never felt like we had to leave. A wonderful pub, with amazing food and lovely staff.

A lovely pub, great parking and wonderful staff

My Wife and I have enjoyed the Sunday Roast at the Three Moorhens, sadly, this was a great disappointment. We arrived a little early and was shown to our table. When the food came, it wasn’t very warm and when our table was cleared, that was when we were asked if everything was ok. I told our Server about the meals and he apologised and said he would let “them” know in the Kitchen. When paying our bill, he remarked that had we have said something he could have changed our meals. Yes, he could have done, had he come and asked us how everything was, but he didn’t. This person has served us previously and seemed enthusiastic and very helpful. Not this time. I think it will be a while until we visit the Moorhens again!
