Having been recommended to eat at this pub we were very disappointed with the Sunday lunch today. Food wasn’t hot. Beef was tough, one of our party struggled to eat it. Mentioned this to a member of staff who apologised but no further recompense offered. We dined in what appeared to be a shed, cold air blowing through gaps in the structure.

Four of us went for a Sunday roast as recommended by the butcher in Ashwell. We had to sit outside as we had brought our dog with us. Service was quick and the food was nice. We were unable to park in the small car park but found parking along the high street.

The Prego rolls were delicious, and I'm confident the pizzas were also good. Timothy Taylors Boltmaker was great too and sitting in the lovely garden with the Miss Jones Jazz Band entertaining us made for a lovely summer Sunday. Thank you Three Horseshoes!

We found this pub by accident today, having taken a wrong turning. What an absolutely delightful place! Thatched roof, log burning fire, 2 handsome goats in the garden. Even a defibrillator for those who have overeaten. Every member of staff was warm and welcoming. The Sunday Roast was magnificent, never before have I been offered a whole extra sauce boat of gravy, there were four scrummy potatoes, as well as green beans, parsnip, cabbage, a lovely Yorkshire, and of course roast beef. We have healthy appetite, but struggled to eat everything. Instead of pudding, we had the locally produced ice cream which was fab. If your route takes you along the A1 in Hertfordshire, this is an excellent diversion. Love and best wishes from the lady with the blue plaster.

When visiting relations, we booked into the Three Horseshoes for dinner. The place was very busy, but the staff were extremely friendly and efficient. We had a nice bottle of white wine to accompany our meal of fish and chips. The meal was well presented and most enjoyable, and very reasonable in cost. We will definitely go to this village pub again when next in the area.

Thanks to the team at the three horseshoes for taking the time to call me back with a cancellation on the very busy Sunday roast on the 3rd December last. The food was fantastic and I rate it a 10/10 good quality and executed perfectly. We also had a very warm welcome from a very lovely young member of staff with long dark hair ( sorry I can’t remember her name) must be the strong Peroni lager lol. We did try all the other local pubs nearby but we found them not geared up for food hospitality.

Went for a lunch with my dog. Was welcomed into the pub by very friendly bar staff and Gerry the landlord. Super quick service and brilliant beers (Timothy Taylor Landlord is a permanent fixture!) I had the pie of the day which was beef and gunness was served with mash and vegetables. This was a proper pie, with shortcrust pastry all of the way around, not some hotpot with a stupid but of puff pastry on top. It was absolutely gorgeous and I polished off the lot much to the disappointment of my dog, I'm going to go again today! :-)

Positive: - Quaint local area near to home - Service was adequate / food was quick to arrive - Great if you want to meet up with your mates for a pint Negative: - Loud and rowdy with pub goers (could not hear anything let alone have a conversation) - Were seated by the door and got a nice whiff of motorcycle fumes when they started their ignition - Busy with no alternative seating if asked - The food was much to be desired: some parts cold and dry - Not the best if you want to enjoy a civilised meal with the family

Hoopoe spotted in Hinxworth, so it was the ideal opportunity to introduce my friend, Johnny the bird lover, to the delights of The Three Horseshoes. I always get a wonderful welcome from Gerry and Jules, the service from all the staff is fabulous, and Christy (head chef) is a cunning kitchen creative. Hot wings and arancini are lip smackingly good, and we both had the fish and chips as the main...perfectly cooked and seasoned, light crispy batter and the nicest chips - fluffy on the inside and crispy on the out. And all at good value for money.

Went here after booking in advance at 2pm for what we thought would be a nice Sunday lunch, considering the reviews. From arrival it was very much apparent that the pub was mainly for locals to have a drink as it was crowded and extremely noisy. Individuals were getting increasingly rowdy and it was not only intimidating but frustrating. You cannot hear what your company is saying or have any resemblance of a conversation. The food was mediocre with some items being cold or extremely over seasoned. Disappointing there was no beef or cauliflower cheese, so I asked for the chicken which was especially dry. Honestly, myself and company could not wait to get out of here fast enough and can't say we will be returning unfortunately.

We were here last night. A true gem this really is. My partner Nigel had the flat iron steak, which he said was the best he had ever had. Melted in your mouth like butter, extrodinarley good. Moving on to my Scampi and fries, the Scampi was golden, and soft, not like the rock hard cremated, shapes you sometimes see. Wonderful. We ate in the garden, and a big shout out, to Sam and Millie for their brilliant service. We have just returned from France. Well let me tell you, this gives French cuisine something to conjour with. First time eating here, with the new chef, and long may he reign!! Bravo!!!!

Recently my partner and I came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon - from the moment we walked in we were met with smiles and hellos from the staff. The pub was warm, the fire was crackling and there was music playing in the background. The food was great, however the best part about our experience was the amazing service we received. Our waitress and bartender, who's name we learned to be Francine, could not have been more friendly and attentive. Everytime she passed us we were met with a smile - never once did we feel as though we had been forgotten about. We needed only to look in her direction before she came over so we could order more drinks. Fantastic service with a smile. Will definitely be returning!

First time visit. really nice find. will definitely be back after the latest lockdown. having quite the appetite i managed to sample a slightly broader range of the menu and all of it was amazing. for starter i had king prawn pil pil which was lovely and had the perfect blend of heat without impacting the flavour and the ability to taste the prawns. that was popular amongst my group. our vegan guest had the hummus selection, which i also sampled and was both interesting with the contrasting trio of flavours and equally all were nice unlike when you get a dip selection at the indian for example and may only actually like one. as hummus goes it definitely had the best texture of any hummus ive tried and was a lot smoother than the sometimes grainy texture you get from cheap alternatives. for mains lamb roast was again the most popular choice and as someone who struggles with well done red meats this was certainly tender and enjoyable. the cauliflower cheese side was both tasty and a bargain considering 1 portion was ample to feed 2 people. i thought with all the dishes portion size was well thought out and ideal. our vegan guest had the vegeterian roast which was a flavoursome mix of mushrooms, spinach and other flavours encased in a lovely pastry and an optional veggie gravy, nice touch. i was able to try that and could honestly say as a meat eater it was that good id have been more than happy if it was my own main. carrots were well presented and were a nice alternative to bog standard sliced presentation and the roast potatoes had a lovely rosemary taste. sometimes in nice places like these their gravy ruins the whole taste of the main by overpowering it and being too rich, this was not the case here and the gravy complimented the mains and added flavour and texture without trying to take centre stage, the actual ingredients were therefore allowed to express themselves. puddings were unanimous on the belgian waffle which again delivered where others can fail. sometimes waffles are a bit over done and too firm. these however were thick, soft and sweet with a complimentary crunch rather than a stale one. the presentation was nice, the added mint as a garnish again was a nice touch as was the powdered sugar without being overpowering or overused. the ice cream was perfectly scooped and an even smooth spherical scoop with no blemishes which having experienced life in the heat of the restaurant kitchen you can admire this as under pressure some may cut corners or accept less than perfect scoops, that however cannot be said here. i think small details like this amongst other things from both those preparing the food and those serving the food merit appreciation and set them apart. the service was exceptional, wait times were optimal by allowing enough time to digest each course and not feel rushed but also speedy enough that you dont think about timings. all the food came out without delay between 1st and last guest. drinks and puddings were offered without feeling pushy. cutlery was replaced between courses without hesitation. sauces offered and delivered promptly. overall the experience was friendly from start to finish, quick, calm and effective. despite having a busy restaurant the staff never seemed to be under pressure and that showed in the service. overall 6 stars. pitty we have to wait at least a month to return.

Earlier today I dropped my dog at the Groomer in Vanstone Parks Garden Centre, my car to the car wash guys then went into the cafe after a look around the garden centre. It was just after noon. I ordered an omelette with salad and crisps with a pot of tea. Paid for my order and sat outside with my plant pot which had my order number on. The waitress came out with a pot of tea, going well so far! When the waitress brought my order it was an omelette on a rather large plate! I asked where the salad was and was advised this it the breakfast menu, you don’t get anything with it then walked away. I thought I’d read the menu incorrectly until the lady who also sat outside was served an omelette with enough salad you could say it had its own garden! What a pity the service wasn’t a patch on it as when the previous owners/ managers ran the Orchard Cafe. The Groomer did a lovely job on my dog and the car valets made my car sparkle. Just been let down by the cafe’ won’t be going there again
