We visit this pub most weekends. This week we had Sunday lunch, roast beef. It was absolutely superb, generous portions, couldn't really fault it in any way. The service is very good & the landlord and landlady, Gerry and Julie are very welcoming and friendly.

Went for a lunch with my dog. Was welcomed into the pub by very friendly bar staff and Gerry the landlord. Super quick service and brilliant beers (Timothy Taylor Landlord is a permanent fixture!) I had the pie of the day which was beef and gunness was served with mash and vegetables. This was a proper pie, with shortcrust pastry all of the way around, not some hotpot with a stupid but of puff pastry on top. It was absolutely gorgeous and I polished off the lot much to the disappointment of my dog, I'm going to go again today! :-)

Positive: - Quaint local area near to home - Service was adequate / food was quick to arrive - Great if you want to meet up with your mates for a pint Negative: - Loud and rowdy with pub goers (could not hear anything let alone have a conversation) - Were seated by the door and got a nice whiff of motorcycle fumes when they started their ignition - Busy with no alternative seating if asked - The food was much to be desired: some parts cold and dry - Not the best if you want to enjoy a civilised meal with the family

We were here last night. A true gem this really is. My partner Nigel had the flat iron steak, which he said was the best he had ever had. Melted in your mouth like butter, extrodinarley good. Moving on to my Scampi and fries, the Scampi was golden, and soft, not like the rock hard cremated, shapes you sometimes see. Wonderful. We ate in the garden, and a big shout out, to Sam and Millie for their brilliant service. We have just returned from France. Well let me tell you, this gives French cuisine something to conjour with. First time eating here, with the new chef, and long may he reign!! Bravo!!!!

Recently my partner and I came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon - from the moment we walked in we were met with smiles and hellos from the staff. The pub was warm, the fire was crackling and there was music playing in the background. The food was great, however the best part about our experience was the amazing service we received. Our waitress and bartender, who's name we learned to be Francine, could not have been more friendly and attentive. Everytime she passed us we were met with a smile - never once did we feel as though we had been forgotten about. We needed only to look in her direction before she came over so we could order more drinks. Fantastic service with a smile. Will definitely be returning!

The restaurant is very good, but my visits to the pub in the evenings for a drink have been spoiled by some of the locals who are allowed to hug the bar They sit sideways on the bar stools and prevent other customers from getting close to the bar r. They even continue their conversations when the new customer is trying to order. This means that everybody around the bar is having to shout. The staff and their customers ordering the drinks then have to bend forward and stretch across the knees of the people sitting at the bar, to pay and reach their drinks. This is, of course.is more difficult with card transactions and loose change,

The staff were friendly however the food was a little tasteless and disappointing. A few hours later I came down with terrible sickness which lasted the next 24 hours. I was away on a weekend break with my friends so the rest of the stay was ruined. I called the pub as I wanted to let them know however I was shocked with their response. The gentleman I spoke to was very defensive and said it won't have been them and "nobody else has complained." I felt very disappointed that he couldn't even acknowledge the possibility I had been so ill because of their food hygiene. Instead he was very defensive. I wasn't asking for money back but felt it was important to let them know.

The English village pub has been something of an endangered species of late, with pubs closing at an alarming rate, and buildings that were once the centre of the community being pulled down or sold off for housing. Therefore, as I travelled across the country and the clock ticked on, even as I approached the A1, I was looking for somewhere to eat. And there was the Three Horseshoes, with its thatched roof and low eaves. So I parked and stepped inside, to find myself in a building that combined the old-world with the new, with old-fashioned bar and modern restaurant space. The fish and chips was excellent, service good, and all in all, shows a renaissance of the English pub.

In short, service was top, garden to die for and food of highest standard. Daughter had halloumi Burger with sweet potato fries. I had nacho burger minus guacamole to which I am allergic. At last, a real country pub with all the fittings. Its as welcoming as a full turkey dinner with a large wood-burning stove thrown in. Food, beer and wine are all good and pretty good value for money. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. It seems to be a place that walkers use for lunch as a stopping off place and perhaps that helps to create this relative rarity nowadays: a country pub in a tiny village that actually manages to attract a good number of customers. Was passing thro on way to family and decided a good lunch was in order, near me now, and decided on this establishment based on four plus stars. Arrive at a small, intimate little pub consisting of a bar area and a conservatory style dinning area. Warm welcome from barman and menus / drinks sorted. Decided on starters of asparagus, hollandise and poached egg and maple glazed dipping sausages with whole grain mustard. All under £5 and well done. Mains was sticky ribs (£12) and steak/onions on ciabatta (£6). Ribs were excellent with skinny fries and homemade slaw. Steak etc was also excellent. All service undertaken by the friendly barmanThis isn't fine dinning but is good dining very well done. Wish I lived in Hinxworth!

Got to tell others if something is that good! Stopped by on Sunday on a recommendation from a friend, and haven't seen a country pub this busy for a very long time. The owners were so welcoming, as were all of the staff, and nothing was too much trouble - they even had vegetarian options. Although the menu was small, there were still enough choices and the food was really good - we will definitely be going back in the future.

My last review was under the previous management, so thought it would be a good idea to update it. I hadn't realised it had changed hands until the phone number I had no longer worked, but Google solved that. The pub has been smartened up from the slightly old fashioned pub it was before, and with the new tables is clearly focussing more on food. The menu has been updated, and it was good to see a nice choice of items on the Sunday lunch menu other than a roast (but not too long a menu, that is always worrying). The welcome and service was excellent, and the food matched. Well cooked, good quality food, at a reasonable price. The roast beef I had was perfectly cooked and very tender, but all plates were cleared.I will certainly be returning.

Lovely traditional pub food. Nice atmosphere. Busy when we went but service was still good and prompt. The children shared an adult meal between two and had plenty to eat.

Visited in early April very much on the "off chance". It is great when this works.Pub was pleasingly busy which is normally a good sign. Mine host was rushed off his feet but remained pleasant and friendly to all. The menu is good and the grub even better. I believe the host had been there since Oct 2015 and he and his team are making an out of the way pub so good that those of us who have visited almost want to keep it our own secret. Will go back and hope that the Three Horseshoes goes from strength to strength.

Visited today for lunch.Pub has a very friendly welcoming atomosphere.Service is excellent! The burger was delicious and the chips (I had fat but also a choice of skinny or sweet potato) were outstanding and not at all greasy and were definitely home made 'proper' rustic chips.Specials of the day are also on offer but very good traditional pub menu with high quality food.Would highly recommend and return!

Lovely unpretentious pub with very good food. You can expect a warm welcome from Gerry! Ate some delicious sandwiches in front of the fire and drank excellent beer. Couldn't ask for more.

Since "The Shoes" went under new management in 2015 (Gerry and Julie) we have visited several times for both food and just drinks. The atmosphere is warm, friendly and welcoming. The menu is short but covers every requirement - meat eaters, fish, vegetarian, small plates etc and there is a specials board. We have been for both dinner and lunch, both with and without our 3 kids. Food is good value, well prepared and the service is excellent. Looking forward to visiting in the summer, as there is a lovely back garden and outside patio area, which will be a perfect match with a pint of Timothy Taylors.
