Beautiful hotel. Cosy, tranquil, lovely ambience. Service was outstanding. Chris is a great asset, professional, friendly and thoughtful. Breakfast delicious. Stopped off here in our Motorhome and enjoyed a very pleasant and tasty meal. We booked for 6.15pm and were surprised how busy it was. Home cooked food was excellent and piping hot. We visited on a Wednesday and took advantage of the Government “Eat Out to Help Out” scheme but I can honestly say that we would have happily paid full price as it was so good and service was very quick and friendly. Definitely worth visiting again when we are back in this area

We stopped here for breakfast for the first time on our way north. We were the only ones in there but it still remained a nice cosy place to be. We both had the full English breakfast which was very very nice indeed. Building is amazing from outside and a little disappointing on the in. It appeared to have most of its original features but a little tired. Some TLC would have benefited. We will stop again and would highly recommend the breakfast

Came here as a family group for lunch prior to a visit to the Nene Valley Railway. Very conveniently located from our point of view and, seemingly, that of quite a few others. With only one front-of-house member of staff she coped extremely well under the pressure of dealing with phone calls, staffing reception, serving at the bar AND waiting at the tables - the management need to recognise that this could have all gone horribly wrong. In the event, perhaps by virtue of being the earliest lunch arrivals, were served reasonably promptlyl. It would have been better if the chefs had been around at the start!Menu good, food good, could do with a better choice of proper beers (not bottled stuff).Unless staffing level is improved be prepared to wait.

I take full responsibility for booking the incorrect date for my stay at the Sibson Hotel, Peterborough. But I did enquire if it was possible to move the date to the correct one, eight minutes after I had booked. They were not very helpful or sympathetic but did say they would look into it and phone me back. They have not bothered, but I suspect they have enjoyed getting the money for doing nothing. I suggest they need to brush up on customer relations, even if only to tell me they are sorry but cannot move the date or refund.

Stayed over for a business trip. Beautiful building. When I first entered was unsure where to check in but thankfully directed by other guests. Checked in by friendly member of staff. When entering my room I found it dull and dingy. It had all the basics but could certainly do with updating. Due to my late Africa’s after a long drive I just wanted to go to bed. Thankfully due to how comfy the bed was and a nice room quiet room I got an amazing nights sleep. The bed was great and despite its location next to the A1 it was lovely and quiet.

I attended a wedding here recently, food at best was average with no flavour. The rooms are quaint with a lot of character but could also do with a dust, I know it’s an old building but there was so many spiders in the room and corridors, very unsettling for an arachnophobe like myself. Breakfast however was very nice, small portions but just enough for myself, my partner would disagree he likes more bacon and sausages. The check out process was lengthy, we waited 20 mins for someone to check us out despite ringing the bell several times, more staff are needed at check out time, they seemed to be serving breakfast instead manning reception. I would definitely not stay the night again at the Sibson Inn.

Travelling from Peterborough to Yorkshire today and stopped at 12.30 for lunch. Wish we had kept on driving !!! Firstly we were greeted by a lovely front of house staff member, pleasant, polite and very welcoming. Ordered off the 2 course lunch menu. I had prawn cocktail starter, no actual problem with the quality of the dish but unfortunately, I am old school and didn't realise that prawn cocktail now comes full of chopped peppers which I detest so passed it over to my partner.. The choice of roast was pork belly or roast chicken. I ordered roast chicken and was presented with a horrible chicken breast portion that was closer to a microwave oven than any roasting oven. This was accompanied by 3 disgusting inedible frozen roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding that was a reheated leather shell. My meal was left almost untouched, and to be fair, the lovely front of house staff member deducted it from the bill with no fuss at all. But I did leave the place hungry and knowing I will never eat there again.

Every now and again we come across a little gem when travelling around the UK.On 11th October we were driving north on the A1 and decided to stop for a late breakfast around 11am. We were the only customers in the dining area at that time. The service from Diane was prompt and very polite and the food extremely good when compared to fast food outlets at motorway service areas. A simple request to the chef for extra toast resulted in a whole plateful within minutes supplied at no extra cost. In fact, the total cost of our breakfast was extremely reasonable and it was indeed a pleasure to find a small establishment where the staff were so keen to ensure that we enjoyed a simple meal such as breakfast. However, I did mention that their signage before reaching the hotel should be improved to ensure that motorists are aware of the property and can reduce their speed as it is very easy to pass the hotel on a fast stretch of the A1. Frankly, the hotel deserves to do well.

Stuck in a traffic jam on an early Friday afternoon in August we were on the Great North Road (A1/A1M) and we knew that we should have left home a good deal earlier to avoid this catastrophe. It was lunchtime and, as we crawled along we came across this oasis, The Sibson Inn Hotel. Tired and now hungry, we gratefully pulled into the car park at the rear of this truly attractive building, formerly a 17th century farmhouse. We were given a muted welcome and were ushered in to a pleasant and comfortable lounge bar where we were able to order sandwiches and much needed drinks. From this bar, we watched the line of traffic that we had just left amble slowly toward Scotch Corner 20 to 30 miles further where we would eventually turn off the Great North Road. Our drinks arrived quickly followed soon after by a hot beef sandwich and a BLT both of which were delicious if not a bit small and as a result, a little overpriced at £8.00 and £6.00 respectively! However, we were grateful for the break, the use of the facilities and the sustenance in very pleasant surroundings. Definitely worth a visit.

We booked a room for one night at the Simpson Inn while travelling up the A1 to North Yorkshire from the south coast.Although it is a very small hotel we were pleasantly surprised at our room which was small but perfectly comfortable, warm and not at all damp unlike the weather at the time. There are tea-making facilities, with biscuits coffee water etc.The bathroom was a bit dated unusual in that for once the mastic was fine unlike many hotel & domestic bathrooms in the UK. Toiletries that is shampoo and conditioner are provided. The restaurant however is superb, although there are also vast next boss next for people who want lighter meals. We were very surprised at the standard of the cooking which continued for breakfast the next morning with a good choice of cooked and continental breakfast's.There are larger rooms around the courtyard which I think are a bit more modern and we might book one of these next time. Despite being next to the A1 there was surprisingly little noise thanks to the excellent double glazing. There are also fields behind the inn where you can go for walks on a pleasant evening. I'm not sure I'd want to stay there for more than a couple of days in the smaller rooms but it certainly a lovely place to break your journey. Bear in mind there are often weddings here at the weekend so it might be wise to check in advance when booking if you don't like being in hotels with this kind of thing going on. We thought the price was very reasonable compared with eg a Ramada. The only drawback really is the reception area which is a bit stark with the office area frankly untidy but don't let that first impression put you off this is a great place to stay. The staff are very helpful, nothing was too much trouble and the place was very very clean.

Returning "up north" from Dover via the A1, my wife and I were, of necessity, later than usual and too late for lunch at any of our customary 12.00 to 2.00 restaurants. Fortunately, we remembered that the Sibson Inn was more flexible than most and found, to our relief, that this was still the case.We received a warm welcome and, after a somewhat more exotic diet, gratefully opted for the beef burger and scampi respectively. Both were excellent and served with chips and vegetables. The portions were generous. We accompanied the meal with a nice glass of Merlot, taking the rest home as a "doggie bottle". To finish, we were provided with a freshly prepared cafetiere of coffee,We were given a wide choice of tables and were impressed by the ambience and service. I can thoroughly recommend the Sibson Inn, especially if you need to lunch outside the normally restricted hours and the "chef's just gone home" syndrome.

I choose this venue because we had visited for coffee several years ago. The ambience in the bar and restaurant is what one would expect from an old building that was probably an old coaching inn. White table clothes were on the table and it was very quiet when we arrived. That is always bit off putting but by about 1.30 more people had arrived for lunch. We just had main courses - jacket potato with prawns in pink sauce and a salad garnish, also steak and kidney pie with chips and vegetable. The pie was not and an individual one but a slice cut from a bigger pie with short crust pastry. Both meals were yummy. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area but a bit tricky if you are travelling south.

We'd visited fairly recently and wanted to come back to try the Sunday lunch. The menu had 5 choices for each course but strangely only had one roast meat choice. So I chose that, roast beef and pate to start. The pate was okay, but it was a small portion, with minimal toast and dried-up, limp salad. The roast on the other hand was a succulent piece of real-roasted beef, with crispy roast spuds, large batter pudding and crunchy veg. What's more the gravy was made from the meat juices and was tasty. My friend had the home made steak and kidney pie which looked equally as scrummy.I was tempted by the pudding menu and hoped for a homemade lemon meringue, but was very disappointed to receive a small, shop-bought-like pie.The main roast meal here is great value and very tasty... go and try it. In my opinion the starters and puddings @ £6/£7 are poor value and do not live up the home-cooked style of the mains, which is a real shame.

To us a choice of fast food outlet or an old coaching inn to break our journey to London is a no brainier. The Ram Jam has been lost but The Lion at Buckden on the way down and The Sibson Inn on the way back are convenient stopping points that offer charm and comfort as well as wholesome home-cooked fresh food. Long may they thrive. We have just had a lovely lunch with a glass of wine and a coffee in a bow window overlooking a garden, with the busy A1 beyond, in an oak beamed room with a crisp white tablecloth. We enjoyed pleasant up fussy service and were able to continue our journey about 45 minutes later thoroughly refreshed.

Would definitely recommend the restaurant of the Sibson Inn to its future guests. The food was plentiful, nicely cooked, well presented, a fair price and served with care and attention. Can't say better than that!

Staff were very friendly. I had the gammon and my husband had sirloin steak. It was cooked exactly how we like it, presentation excellent, and the chips were to die for. We thought it was a bit expensive. £17.50 for the sirloin and £12.50 for the gammon. £4.40 for a pint of San Miguel and £1.50 for a small glass of lemonade. However if you are going to treat yourselves go to the a Sibson Inn!

Stuck in traffic on our way up North we decided to swerve into this lovely looking old pub on the Great North Road! Good decision. By the time we had enjoyed some good 'pub grub' we were ready to face the now cleared road.Publican was a joy. Inside the pub it was a very traditional - some might say tired I would prefer to say it added to its character! Food not restaurant standard but then again nor was the price. Would definitely stop by again. Not sure about the accommodation etc as only experienced a pleasant pub meal. (Fish n Chips for two and a great British steamed pud and custard x2 plus drinks less than £50.) No complaints!

Nice place old stone buildings look great. The bar and restaurant area are nice, low beamed ceilings, typical old pub. Food is great, and reasonably priced. Bedrooms are ok, comfortable, and mine had a bath, nice change from just a shower. It is next to the A1, but it is not that noisy, although the room I had faced the countryside and away from the A1. I would recommend it.

After leaving London in appalling weather conditions early morning and spending two hours being buffeted by spray from lorries on the M25 and M11 we chanced upon this hotel and pulled in for breakfast. To be honest I was expecting a cup of tea and toast as non-residents how wrong I was. The full English was wonderful. The bacon and excellent sausages all sourced locally were some of the best we have tasted. Service efficient and overall impression - a welcoming atmosphere and excellent value for money.

Breakfast was served hot and was enjoyable. Will definetly go again maybe on our anniversary.

When travelling north this has to be a stop off point for a bit to eat. The pub is open all day and so is the kitchen. The staff are amazing There is a great lunch time menu with plenty of choice, with the club sandwich being a must try for a light lunch. If your using Tom Tom the restaurant is about 2.5 mile prior to the recommended turn off on the old sat nav. But don't worry it's well sign posted.

Set right on the A1, a couple of hours from London, this charming period property is a welcome break from busy traffic. We were able to have a lovely home-made Cottage Pie and an omelette with genuine hand made chips, a glass of wine and a soft drink followe by a generous cafetière of coffee all for a very reasonable £35. All this was served by a very pleasant waiter on a white cloth in a charming little bow window table in a period dining room with beams a nd panels. Such a pleasant change for any traveller. Highly recommended.

Driving north on the A1 and very bored with the usual service station fare we saw the sign for this restaurant and decided to give it a go.Very glad we did – a traditional bar and small dining room with a welcoming atmosphere and relaxing ambience. The menu is not huge (which I think is a good sign as it usually means that they actually cook to order rather than just re-heat pre-prepared dishes). The staff are very welcoming and looked after us very well, managing to accommodate an off-menu request. The food was wholesome and very tasty. Fortunately I wasn’t the driver so managed to sample their beer as well! A lovely, quiet respite away from the hustle and bustle of the A1, which broke our journey nicely and we continued our journey feeling refreshed and relaxed. Now definitely on my route planner for the next trip north.

We called in this hotel that lies just off the A1. Easy to reach from the motorway but so much nicer than the hustle and bustle of motorway services and prices were competitive to services. We enjoyed the peace after a long drive from the south. Our meals were prepared freshly, mine a hot steak sandwich with chips and my friend had a plough mans lunch. The only weakness was that I would have preferred my hot steak in a bun or baguette. The plough mans looked wonderful. Cheese and a varied selection of fresh crisp sliced vegetables, olives, pickles and fruit. Again we expected a rustic bread rather than the dainty three cornered pieces of sliced bread. However the meals we saw other diners had looked appetising, especially the jacket potatoes. I can't comment on the hotel or wedding venue facilities but the place seemed clean, rustic and had an outside pebbled courtyard with tables and chairs. A number of old Jaguars were parked in the rear car park. The owner must be a keen collector. I would visit this hotel again while travelling up North.we really felt we had had a relaxing break and refreshed to continue our journey.

The food at the Sibson Inn was fantastic. The variety on the menu catered for all tastes. The menu starters had everything from fishcakes to soup of the day. The mains I saw on our table all looked delicious from my gorgeous Moroccan chicken with rice to a goats cheese risotto and a really tasty steak. The deserts were also lovely too, especially the sticky toffee pudding. The service was fantastic with staff happily letting us put out birthday cakes to surprise our birthday boy and girl. Bret was a very attentive member of staff who kept us entertained when bringing our dishes to the table. Definitely worth a visit for food if you're on the A1.

Stopped here on a colleague's recommendation, having expressed my frustration with the lack of good dining choices on my regular journey between Leeds and Essex. Going south, this restaurant involves turning off and doing a couple of miles diversion as it falls between junctions on the northbound side, but I have to say it is well worth it.The bar restaurant is cosy and traditional, with a welcoming atmosphere and pleasant ambience. The staff are professional, friendly and incredibly helpful, giving prompt service and answering my food allergy queries with alacrity. The menu was not particularly wide but offered delicious and varied options, all obviously cooked from scratch on the premises as the chef was able to vary my selected dishes to meet my dietary requirements. My starter of scallops was cooked absolutely to perfection (something a lot of restaurants get wrong) and prettily presented. The main course duck breast was similarly excellent, slightly let down by the rather boring veggie selection but nonetheless the nicest piece of duck I've enjoyed in a while.I look forward to making this a regular dinner stop! Reasonable prices too: two courses and two drinks for under thirty quid.

We arrived with high hopes following all the other reviews on TA; whilst the food lived up to expectation the service did not. We had to ask for our coats to be hung up, we had to ask for the wine list, our wine when it arrived was not initially poured, there was no bread on the table whilst waiting for the first course to arrive, the fire was not lit despite the cold night, our plates between courses always took too long to clear despite staff wandering past, I was not offered a second cup of coffee. Overall, not very romantic. The food itself was excellent but the evening was spoilt by lack of attention to detail and service. £69 per couple for the Valentine evening for a 3-course meal inc tea / coffee is not cheap when service is lacking, but on the overhand I am more than happy to pay more when service hits the nail on the head - in this instanced it missed the target.Pity, as the restaurant has such potential.
