I very much wanted to love this place as the staff, location and decor was lovely but sadly the food and its price definitely let the place down. I paid £8.30 for a small baguette with three Tesco economy fingers and some shredded lettuce sprinkled on top with a hand full of rocket on the side 😞 Will definitely be back for a pint but going to stay clear of the food sadly as it's clearly a maximum profit minimum quality/effort

Terrible food (defrosted frozen fish, chips were not like proper chips - maybe oven. CHips deep fried, burgers were unappetising, and we were told they were running out of ketchup and couldn’t give us anymore sachets! So we went to the local shop (2 min walk away) and bought our own ketchup which we shared with other disgruntled customers! ! In addition we waited 40 mins for the “meal”! Pity a lovely village like Houghton doesn’t have a decent pub! Never going back!

Lovely pub just outside huntingdon. Came here with my wife, close friend, and 2 year old godson. Little one loved the toys and play area on site, and we loved the food. The only gripe was that the Sunday roast was a bit skimpy on the meat and cauliflower cheese, but all of it was well cooked and tasty. Liked the dessert, I had a plum crumble, but if you are going to offer custard, you need to have space in the bowl of crumble to be able to pour over the custard! The crumble was right to the top of the small bowl, so there was no space to enjoy it with the custard! 😅

Such a lovely pub, but terrible experience with the staff and management.. The lady behind the bar was rude and incompetent. Asking us to wait 20 minutes to place a food order, and then under her breath saying for 'God sake ' when we came back in to order. And as for the manager had a very bad attitude. Came out into the garden, shouted at us for bringing the kids games outside so we could entertain the little ones. Shame they could not have just been friendly, and accommodating towards us.

We stayed here and it was lovely - Thanks to Cathy and her husband (and staff) for making us feel very welcome. The food was lovely - both dinner and breakfast. Our room was quaint (this is a 17th Century building) even if the ceiling was a little low. The bed was very comfortable and it was very quiet so we had a good night's sleep. There is a lovely beer garden too.

Ok pub. Three ales on but given this isn't a tied pub their choice of doom bar and GK IPA is disappointing. Other ale is a guest beer, this time an oakham which was kept ok. Pub geared up more to food overall. Beer above average price for the area.

Stopped in this local pub as it looked nice and had been past a few times. The server on the bar was new to the job it seemed, we all have to start somewhere, she made our drinks and gave us menus. We noticed the bar was a bit “sticky” however we sat and read the lunch menu, we then noticed the table was also “sticky” we put it down to the heat reacting with the varnish! I never understand why pubs varnish tables it’s rubbish! Better off covering with a cheap cloth or bare wood treated with oil. Longer lasting and easily restored!! Anyway we overlooked the sticky furniture and ordered lunch. I opted for loaded nachos (chilli beef) my wife had loaded chips (only cheese) reasonably priced. The server came back after a little while and offered us a £3 refund as the loaded chips are already loaded with cheese and she said they had been charged incorrectly. We said thank you and please keep it as a tip. Perhaps it was her first gratuity or biggest? She was overjoyed. Our food arrived and it was delicious, tbh I wasn’t expecting much from the look of the menu and surroundings, both of which needed a little more TLC. The food tasted amazing, the chef is obviously the draw here as the place was getting busy with hungry walkers by the time we left. I would go back but find a less sticky table!!

My husband, dog and I stayed for 2 nights in the B&B. The staff were friendly, the food was generous and proper English grub and the beers and wines decent. The building is very old so the rooms are quite small with very squeaky floorboards but that added to the charm. Houghton is a beautiful village with lots of walks and the National Trust Houghton Mill a very short distance down the road. This was perfect for a short weekend getaway.

Sat outside as we had the dog with us. Very scruffy, quite dirty and by the look of all the cobwebs rarely cleaned. Very inexperienced bar person working on her own with only one in the kitchen. Whilst our main course was acceptable we had also ordered strawberries and cream for dessert. This being the only desert option. When it became obvious that this wasn’t going to arrive on its own we ask if we could have the desert only to be told that the chef didn’t have the time to prepare it and we could have our money back. Others were being told they couldn’t order food yet as the chef couldn’t cope. Lovely village, lovely day and someone is missing the opportunity to provide a lovely pub doing nice food.

Quaint Archetypaly english. Very friendly staff. The village is full of thatched cottages and characture. We kept expecting Inspector Barnaby to wander by as this could be the set of any number of english TV shows from Midsomer Murders to Lewis or Hot Fuzz. The pub appears to have been built in the 17th century and certainly the uneveness of the floors upstairs reflect the building standards of those times. Nonetheless the room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was very good. If you are from outside the UK and you want to stay somewhere that screams English, this is the place for you. There's even a garage that specialises in MGs opposite the pub.

Nice mains carvery but……. we were badly let down over dessert. There was no prior warning that we could not order a dessert which we already had seen on the menu when we ordered our carvery main meals. We only found out at table we could not have a pudding after finishing our mains and wanting to order a sweet. There had been two good prior opportunities for the staff/proprietors to let us know the kitchen would be closing soon when we booked our table, or when we were sat at table and we told the waitress that instead of a starter that we'd like a dessert but nothing was said then, nor were we given to pre-order our desserts when we ordered our mains. I thought this was very off. Also seems to be fairly frequent problems paying for meals by cards, we've seen other customers have problems previous visit and two of our cards did not connect on card machine without problems despite adequate balance on the accounts. Consider taking cash!

When my husband sadly died in late August, there was no need for discussion as to where to hold the Wake ……. obviously it was going to be The Jolly Sailor, Ramsey, David’s preferred drinking place for over 40 years. In his latter years he was even afforded his own seat next to the bar. If someone was in it when he arrived, they were politely requested to move. Stacey, the new Landlady, very thoughtfully placed a photograph of David, together with his pipe and cap, on the seat for the duration of the Wake. Stacey was most helpful and accommodating and arranged a Wake far and beyond my hopes and expectations. On arrival there was a warm and welcoming atmosphere and the food and presentation was exceptional - the quality, variety and amount. Many complimentary comments were made. She, and her wonderful staff kept the table topped up and glasses full unobtrusively and efficiently. In fact they were firstclass throughout. I would wholeheartedly and without reservation recommend this lovely, atmospheric, friendly and welcoming establishment to anyone looking for a venue in which to hold their event. You would have to go a long way to better it.

Food good but disappointing way management reacted to criticism. When our table complained about rib eye which was anything but. It was in fact joint of beef that had been overcooked and tough. The gentleman (senior citizen over 75) (who has been a butcher) told waitress and asked to speak with cook and to see what had been served to us to clarify what we were being asked to pay for. I believe that there was some words said and it was agreed that we would not have to pay for meal. However he was then told to leave. Spoiling not only his evening but that of friends who also had to leave early. It was a shame as meal and staff had been exceptional .
