First time trying here today, had a lovely fresh autumn walk along the canal, then went for lunch and a drink. My husband had pie of the day, which was steak and Stilton, with mash and fresh vegetables. I had the prawn Marie Rose sandwich and chips, served with a little side salad and coleslaw. We devoured our food it was delicious. My husband said he could have ordered the pie again and eaten another one, not because the portion size, but because he loved it. Staff were lovely and friendly, highly recommend. I definitely want to return in the summer time too as there is a lovely beer garden.

Here for Sunday lunch with friends who visited. Food was good, staff friendly. But be warned your table is only yours for 90 minutes!! Very shortly after eating our meal we were reminded the table was needed and asked to leave. We quickly finished our wine as the pub was packed so didn't allow us to move elsewhere. I appreciate hospitality is suffering at the moment but not sure we will be back due to this restriction.

Was very upset and disappointed today when we turned up for my husband’s birthday with friends who had travelled two hours to surprise him to be told we had no booking. This was made almost a month ago and I even rang last weekend to double check the time and was told there was no booking. After explaining I was reassured that all had been rectified and it was all sorted and ‘in the book’ Today they said we booked on 1st November but I wasn’t even around that day as I was in Lincoln at an appointment. The 1st doesn’t even sound like 10th and I rang to double check on 3rd so that was after the 1st. I even said it was Remembrance Sunday so there was no mistaking the date. Definitely their error even though I was made to feel I had lied as ‘nothing was in the book’ Just got told they were full and nothing they could do. Wouldn’t be quite so bad had I not double checked the booking last weekend and yet they still got it wrong. Thank you for spoiling my husbands birthday and the surprise of our friends joining us when she had to ring to tell us there was a problem and thank you for leaving us with no lunch as everywhere was booked.

Always a real pleasure to be back in Winster and partake of the hospitality of Old Bowling Green. Charming, relaxing and traditional with welcoming staff and very dog friendly. We enjoyed tasty basket meals (served Friday/Saturday), drinks and chit-chat. A lovely pub in a lovely village.

What a fabulously warm welcome from hosts Andrew and Karen. I live fairly local, but this was our first trip into the yew tree, what a beautiful pub, super friendly, and we just popped in for a pint and some nuts! But ended up staying for an impromptu Sunday lunch!!! Wow!! So good!!! Fabulous roast beef and chicken with lots of trimmings, just like me man used to make!! Tons of gravy too!!!! They accommodated our daughters dietary requirements, in that they did a smaller plate of roast for her! Great value and great beer too, will definitely be heading back for more!!! Thank you so much for making us fee so welcome !!!!

We booked here for a party of 20 for Sunday lunch. It was absolutely fantastic. The Sunday roasts were enormous and delicious, best roast potatoes and huge portions of fresh veg and cauliflower cheese. It all came together which was amazing for such a big group. The puddings were gorgeous and the whole experience was five star. The staff really made an impression on us and that contributed to the really great afternoon. Well done!

Disappointed that the dining area is crammed with tables, so you can’t have a comfortable conversation without other tables hearing. Food was ok but nothing special and a bit pricey but what isn’t these days. Subsequently went to the Little Mill Inn pub at Rowarth, less than 5 minutes away and the food was excellent, less expensive and its dog friendly too.

Found this pub by chance and we weren’t disappointed. Quite a small bar area where we sat and we were the only visitors among locals but made to feel so welcome . Food was amazing , couldn’t fault it. So good that we booked dinner for the next night and yet again an amazing meal.

This was a spontaneous visit having not been before nor had any recommendations. Normally, this type of excursion is disappointing but not on this occasion. We looked at their website before visiting which looked good, the reality is it is better in the flesh. A lovely welcome with very friendly staff. The choice of drinks is great with some lovely real ales and decent wines. The star of the show is the food. A relatively simple menu but our choice of coq au vin was wonderful. The deserts are also to die for! Prices are very reasonable especially with the quality of the food and service. We will be back!!!

One night midweek stay enroute to Norfolk. Very handy location next to railway station and short walk into town. The plusses - decent room although furniture very tired, lovely staff, excellent evening meal. The minuses - not the best value as rate didn't include breakfast and seemed expensive compared to our stay in a hotel in Norfolk. Cooked breakfast was nice and made fresh but v small portions and the "continental" content was severely lacking - a few apples and oranges, some sad cheese slices with salami and a couple of stale pastries.
