First time trying here today, had a lovely fresh autumn walk along the canal, then went for lunch and a drink. My husband had pie of the day, which was steak and Stilton, with mash and fresh vegetables. I had the prawn Marie Rose sandwich and chips, served with a little side salad and coleslaw. We devoured our food it was delicious. My husband said he could have ordered the pie again and eaten another one, not because the portion size, but because he loved it. Staff were lovely and friendly, highly recommend. I definitely want to return in the summer time too as there is a lovely beer garden.

Stopped on way home and found a lovely busy pub that had a really local feel alongside the canal. Great pub food - large portions and a good quality taste. Attentive staff. Will be back to try some of the local canal walks finishing back at the pub. May even be tempted by their Xmas meal that looks great value for money

A beautiful “traditional pub” interior with photos of the history of the nearby canal. In for dinner which started at 5. Well kept Real Ales which were sparkly and bright. We ordered two different meals off the specials board…absolutely delicious, 1) slow roasted pork belly with black pudding mash with creamed bacon and leeks… 2) homemade chicken and mushroom pie, buttered new potatoes and a medley of perfectly cooked fresh seasonal veg. One delicious ice cream sundae was shared as the perfect end to our meal. Compliments to the Chef !!

Stayed at the Wharf on Sat 10th August as we were there for the afternoon/evening to attend the annual celebration of the life of a much loved village local. It was a fabulous turnout as always and the bands were all excellent. A good time was had by all, we played music until a little later than usual and remembered a good friend. The suggestion of segregation for large groups by another reviewer is slightly insensitive, there were posters well displayed in the pub and the toilets stating the event that was happening that day. Our room was spotless and the bed super comfy. The staff and food as always were fantastic. Can't wait for next year!

We often visit taking a detour down the Welford Arm. Struggled to find a mooring this weekend but managed to squeeze in. Just as we arrived, a bus load arrived and took half an hour to get a drink. Perhaps use the other door for large parties and segregate. Great live bands this weekend and nice vibe but will probably not visit again when live music is on as the band finished at 10:45, which is acceptable and then music was blared out until 11:30. Not great for sleeping on a narrow boat! The food as always was excellent, best ‘pub grub’ for miles.

Sunday Lunch ..not been here for yrs..live Sth Leics ..hubby & I had the mixed meat Sunday Roast ..with beautiful cooked vegs ..presentation was spot on with the meats & roast puds & Yorky pud ...gravy was in a gravy boat...which is what I like ...hate it when it comes swimming in gravy !!... Puds ...we had were the Millionaire sundae & the Salted caramel.Chocalote Profiteroles...with cream ...both absolutely delicious ... One minor little bug bare was we had to get attention of the lady looking after us to take main plates away & order the desserts ...& then she disappeared to clear another table ...so we had to do attract attention of another server..apart from.that . It was a good experience.. Thank you .

Came in the the in laws at their recommendation. The food was good, and definitely good value. The range of beers and ciders was good and all of the servers were nice and friendly (or at least trying to be). Unfortunately our night was tarnished by a very weird, niche, not to our taste jazz band playing very loudly in the bar. This was a tuesday night, mind. We did get a quick apology from one of the members of staff. We were wondering why such a reputable place was empty, we found out when they started.

We came across this pub when we had to detour to get up north due to Storm Babet, and wanted to eat before getting to the M1. A goggles search revealed this amazing little find in Welford, at the end of a canal and cutting the corner between the A14 & M1. We arrived at opening time on a Saturday to a warm welcome and a very wide menu that included a range of vegetarian dishes for my friend. This was proper home cooked food, and I had pork medallions in a honey and mustard sauce, and my friend had a vegetarian (might even have been vegan) wellington. The food came quickly and was delicious, far exceeding our hopes when we googled where to eat. If we are travelling this way again, we will definitely stop to eat here!

So a long time catch up was planned to coincide with mooring the Tesl at Welford Wharf. Supper was booked drinks were had, Neck Oil, Nectar Oil it should be called. The food was chosen. Steak and Kidney Pud, Lamb Chops and two servings of Pea and Prawn risotto with Trout. So Lamb Chops just stunning, with mash veg and Mint Gravy. Snake and Pigmy Pud with Chips and Gravy just divine. The Risotto and Trout are absolutely Scrumptious. The deserts were awesome, but to be honest the main course just simply amazing.

Food was really great, steak was nice and the Eton mess was absolutely incredible. staff were also really nice. I was having a really enjoyable time there during a family meal up until I went out for a cigarette and saw ghosts for the first time near the canal toilet hut which I initially didn’t believe in until I visited. This really ruined my evening as I had to cling to my mum at the age of 25 and refused to go anywhere on my own which kind of put a downer on the night for me and has prevented me from sleeping for the past week and started questioning everything I know about reality. 3 stars because of this, would have given 5 stars otherwise. I would really recommend burning sage which is supposedly good for warding off spirits or hiring an exorcist. Alternatively more efficient conduct and sensitivity training for all ghosts present may also be beneficial to improve understanding and consideration in regards to scaring people. Would highly recommend this place during daylight as ghosts will be off shift (unless you’re into that type of thing) especially as the building itself is really impressive to see which is hard to admire when you’re running for your life in terror towards the pub door whilst crying out for your mother.

My partner and I have been to the Wharf numerous times and always found both the service and the food very good. However on this occasion, we had an awful experience. We found a table and went to the bar, like we normally do in the week, to order food and drinks. I was advised that if I wanted to to order food that someone would be over to take our order. I mentioned I wanted drinks too so he prepared those and I went back to the table.A waitress came and took our order and she seemed pretty happy and friendly. Our meals arrived in good time but the egg that came with my ham, egg and chips was over cooked and burnt so I asked the waitress if I could have another egg. The response I received was rude and unnecessary. I was given a look of disbelief and a reluctant ‘yes’. No apologies at all. On top of this, the vegetables that came with one of the meals looked unappetising and tasted of water. My partner and daughter got on with their meals but I decided to wait for my fresh egg before I started mine. However, we waited and waited. Another table, who had already had their starters, were served their main meals after I requested a fresh egg at least 10 minutes previously. Both my daughter and partner felt bad that I couldn’t start my meal so both stopped eating. The waitress walked by not saying a thing to us. Because of this, my partner said to her that we were still waiting for our egg. The response from her was that there were lots of meals to prepare all whilst she was walking off! Even my daughter, who is 10, couldn’t believe she’d walked off! This left us all fuming and by this time completely put off our food. We decided to leave and my partner said to her that we would pay for the two meals that were started but not mine. At no point was there an apology or an attempt to rectify a very minor issue. Even when my partner said she had been rude, there was still nothing! I am astounded that someone who is customer facing has no customer service experience and made a simple request escalate in to a family of 3 leaving half way through their meal with my daughter close to tears because we had to go when she was looking forward to her meal so much. I am also in the food and beverage business and wouldn’t dream of treating a customer in that way. We’ve regularly visited here for lunch but we won’t be returning again. Absolutely disgusting.

The Wharf Inn is close to the back of pavement and the turning to the Walford Marina might easily be missed. Behind however is ample parking and a beer garden. There was a good choice of real ale and my ploughman’s was superb. Whilst ham, cheese and bread is simple fayre it was accompanied by pickles, chutney, onions, salad and an individual pork pie. Thoroughly recommended and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Visited yesterday, Saturday 29/06/19, took elderly parents for trip out with lunch, looked for pub on a canal, so parents could sit and watch people, boats and wildlife. The staff were really friendly and helpful, food excellent and good portions, at good pricing.

Have been to this pub for drinks a few times since we have lived in the village and always enjoyed it, especially in the garden in the summer.

enjoyed pre meal drinks in the sunny garden then a lovely meal in the pub. great atmosphere, good food and drinks. the tapas style sharing starter went down a treat. braised lamb was lovely and you can't fault any pub that serves 3 thirds so you can sample the many fine ales. hunters chicken was nice as well. good British pub in a nice canal side setting. we'll be back

Every now and then we fancy fish and chips. The wharf's large portion is plenty for the two of us. Lovely crispy batter and proper chips. Excellent value, fast service, and great food

What a lovely place, full of boaters with lots of friendly chat. The menu had a good choice along with daily specials. Very friendly staff and outstanding food. The home made steak pie was excellent. The lasagne could have been a little more tomato but still good. Brilliant side order of real onion rings!. Definitely return visit as soon as possible

We went to the old talbot today the waitress could not do enough for us . The food was not very good the chicken parmigiana was so dry and overcooked could not be eaten . The beef cobbler was nothing like the descrption in the menu it was a beef srew with a few bits of fatty chewy beef in a bowl of gravy looked like soup with 2 raw dumplings not a cheese scone in sight and the veg was in the gravy mash came out later after the chef forgot . We paid nearly £30 for a steak that came out cold .We did not enjoy the cheesecake . Tasted vegan .
