Impromptu visit as our car broke down, everyone was so friendly and welcoming and when we got stranded the landlord even drove us to a nearby hotel. Reasonable prices , dog friendly and even show sport (made waiting for the AA less arduous. We didnt have time to eat but the food looked and smelled amazing . Highly recommend, beautiful pub in a beautiful village.

2nd visit (first I thought maybe an off day) but how wrong, lady behind bar (Sally I believe) is nothing but rude! Doesn't talk, placed drinks down and took payment with out even muttering a word, even after I said please and thank you etc, heard her speak to a local lady very rudely, village pubs struggle yet you have the most unfriendly landlady and landlord. Spoke with several locals who said its a regular thing being grumpy, will not use again!!

We popped in for a drink whilst in the area and despite it being a chain pub the place and the landlady had so much personality. The ale (Youngs when we visited) was kept well and a good selection of other beverages for the non ale drinkers amongst us. This is a cracking little find, food and drinks served from noon each day and a good selection of specials alongside the stock Martstons menu. If you like a good, traditional, historic country pub in the area then look no further. We will certainly be going back with a view to sampling the food offer before summer is out.

This is a lovely little pub in a very small sleepy village on the very edge of the Cotswolds. I have been going to this pub for years and it’s never really changed all that much, which is a good thing. The beers are reasonably priced which is my favourite part and the meals are just good old pub grub, it’s never tried to pretend to be anything it’s not which is why I love this pub.

Looking for somewhere to eat after a visit to Canons Ashby (NT) we found the Griffin as we entered the village from a long country lane, If we'd been on the main road we would probably have missed it. We were warmly welcomed and, despite Covid precautions, we found a pleasant table by a window. The menu and specials board looked inviting, but when were told it was 'grill day' with steak or gammon at £7 each - two sirloins were the order. Both were slightly more cooked than the medium-rare we'd ordered, but both were tender and very tasty, as were all the accompaniments. Good quality Merlot (for her) and Malbec (for me). Very reasonable price as well. I'm sure we'll return.

We decided at the last minute to have a meal at the Griffin tonight and were greeted with big smiles and friendly, warm hospitality. The inside of the pub is cosy, with a kids corner - toys, games, books - a real lifesaver! The menu, though, was surprisingly extensive. We had a kids meal (sausages, potato waffles and beans - great), 2 x the Fisherman's Feast (an amazing array of seafood and fab chips), the Mixed Grill (large and yummy), and the Hunter (grilled chicken breast with bacon, BBQ sauce and melted cheese - fab!!). The prices were excellent, and we got the 2 meals and a bottle of wine for 20 pounds deal. There are amazing specials each day (eg. Burgers for 6 pounds on Monday).I would highly recommend and will be back ASAP.

I booked by phone specifically to watch the England world cup match and was told that our table had a clear view of the tv. On arrival a different staff member said that all clear view seats were for the locals. Our table was behind a wall relative to the tv. This mattered to the football fan I had booked for, very much!It was too late to find somewhere else. We shuffled around and spent the 2 1/2 hours of 'the game' asking people to sit down so we could see, standing ourselves ( though trying to eat), and peering round large bodies. It was not such a good experience.

This is not a place to eat. There is no website (what decent pub nowadays doesn't have a website ??), and £12.99 for two courses should have been enough of a warning. The pub itself is just that, a pub to drink in. The dining area is rough, with no style or class. Tasteful it is not. The food was DIRE ! All the vegetables....carrots, cauliflower, sprouts, were completely overcooked, the cauliflower was a strange colour and fell apart it was so soft. I cannot begin to describe how awful it was. I have eaten in many superb pubs that serve superb food in tastefully decorated surroundings. This place didnt even offer coffee after the meal ! I would rather pay twice the price to get quality. I dont know who was cooking the night I went, but it wasn't a chef. There are so many other really really good restuarant pubs within a few miles, that it would be criminal to eat at this one.

We went with friends (four of us) to the promotional evening, which I think was to promote the new landlord etc.The menu looked good and at a special price of £8.95 for 3 courses seemed very good value for money. We ordered our food at 7.30 pm having booked a table for 7 pm and it took over an hour to deliver our very simple starters. We did get an apology and a complimentary bottle of wine but what we really needed was food!Following the starter we were still waiting for our main course at 9.30 pm, which was when we decided enough was enough! Two hours for service is appalling and there is no excuse when you are promoting your business in this way.In the this trade you just have to get it right because not doing so will result in failure, which like so many others means closure! We are local and The Griffin was my actual local when I lived in the village through the late 70's and 80's so we know it well. It's a nice pub with a good atmosphere but that's not enough to assure success.I hope they can get the act together and as my wife suggested we should perhaps give them the benefit of the doubt! We are not expecting fine dining just decent food at sensible prices but with GREAT service, which will keep customers happy and coming back for more!

The Griffin has changed hands many times since I landed in the village. Currently it is a drinkers pub (no food) and busy early evening when people leave work and come out gagging for a pint. For the last year or two the food has been a bit 'estate pub' . Due to change hands again very soon (17/8) so perhaps the brewery will give the new people a free hand with food, who knows. Will still continue to be my local though, and I will continue to haunt it whatever !
