We visited the New Inn having seen a couple of reviews online recommending the Sunday roast. Very glad we visited! Great value for money, friendly staff and the team were very attentive to dietary requirements.

Consistently excellent food - great quality produce that is cooked with lots of skill & care by the chefs who are clearly passionate about what they do. The staff are delightful and attentive, nothing is too much trouble. A hidden gem that we keep returning to & introducing friends & family to. Menu's change on a regular basis and use seasonal produce. Good range of wines and beers. A walk around the village is always a good idea afterwards!

The term 'Tradional Country Pub' is often overused but not in this case. Staying locally our B&B owner recommended the New Inn . We eat there on Saturday evening and the next day for a 'Sunday Lunch' at 17.00. Greatl food , proper beer and faultless hospitality in particular from Sarah. Track this place down, you won't be disappointed...

5pm on Mothers Day - staff could be forgiven for being a little weary on the busiest day day of their year. Not so at The New Inn today - our table of 9, a family group celebrating a teenage birthday, were probably the last service of the day. The pub was buzzing on our arrival, but our table was waiting for us. The welcome was warm, the service friendly and unhurried and every item on the menu was available. 3 delicious courses - fabulous roasts - were enjoyed by us all. A birthday cake was dressed and presented to the table. A perfect family meal. The atmosphere was great, all the staff were friendly and approachable …and there was a good deal of good natured banter, even at the end of a huge day. That’s a pretty good recommendation

We picked this pub out of the Good Beer Guide for a family meet up being roughly eqidistance between Derby and Newbury. A lovely small village, Sunday lunch was excellent along with some equally good Hook Norton beer. Worth mentioning that the service was first class throughout our stay, they really are customer focussed. We will return.

Saw a post on Facebook to say they had Lobster Thermidor on the specials menu and as this is a fav of ours, decided to book. Booked for Saturday night. Pub packed on entering at 7.15 (clearly very popular) but staff very helpful and shown to table and drink orders taken quickly. Waitress explained that they were very busy with a huge table in, and to please bear with them. However, there wasn’t really much of a wait (but we appreciated the heads up). Drinks came quickly and food orders taken in no time at all. Super impressed that despite how busy they were, I had asked for ice in my original wine glass when I ordered a bottle of wine and the lady behind the bar even thought to bring me more throughout our meal (without being asked) its little things like this that is really appreciated. The food was amazing, delicious juicy scallops to start along with crispy squid, followed by the lobster Thermidor which came with 6 huge crevettes, absolutely delicious. Huge portion of chips to go with it between us. My husband said his steak was perfect too, and then for dessert we shared a delicious homemade cheesecake. Honestly we could not fault the food and such amazing value. But with the amazing service, all in all probably one of the nicest meals we’ve had in a very long time. And nothing seems too much trouble here. Real hats off to the staff, they were lovely. Hope they just keep doing what they are doing and we will be back!

A lovely lunch! Pub classics on the menu, opted for fish and chips. Couldn’t fault the food; very crispy chips and huge piece of fish! Staff were very friendly and it was a lovely atmosphere. Great parking, probably wise to book ahead. Only reason for 4/5 is that the decor inside is pretty dated so not entirely to my taste and menu was fairly basic. However, I would return as could not fault the food I had and had a nice time. Thank you!

Popped in on a midweek lunch day for a 2 course Christmas meal along with 6 work colleagues. There was a choice of either a starter, main or pudding, we all went for the pudding . I wasn't over expecting based on 2023 UK cuisine, a lot of it overpriced, smaller portion garbage however this time I was very impressed. The roast turkey was very well presented with a generous portion of assorted veg and add ons. There was also side portions of more green veg .It was very very nice. The sticky toffee pudding and custard was scrumptious. To be fair the meal was probably among the best, if not the best,Xmas meal I have had in a pub or restaurant. I know the dude next to me was equally impressed. If I was being picky maybe a little more gravy but that is really clutching a bit . At the end I wish I had worn my Xmas jumper and sang a few carols in the car park to to complete the perfect lunch

a brilliant location we ordered simple dishes, Fish and Chips (which we have had before and was brilliant) and rib of beef. Rib of beef is a brilliant cut, when slow cooked it has oozes great jus. Not today, we got a dry cut, with BBQ????? sauce on top. Have you changed chefs? Desert was a mixed bag,, the strawberry cheesecake was well received, but the tiramamasu needed......a little lubrication shall we say. Not the standard we had last time.

We were recommended the fish at this restaurant and were not disappointed. Salmon gravilax, tuna sashimi, scampi and lobster. On arrival we were ushered in past a very busy bar to a quieter restaurant. We could watch the bar service from a distance which was great. Our sever was friendly and went out of her way to describe the menu for me (theprint was small and I had just had an eye operation). Everything was freshly cooked, tasty and served with a smile. Not over expensive either. We'll certainly be back for more delicious fish treats.

A warm welcome, friendly and attentive staff. Perhaps not the easiest of places to find, even if you do know your way around as it's hidden away in a quiet back-street in an already quiet village location. We were quickly seated on arrival and drinks soon sorted. An adequate choice on the Sunday Lunch menu, including traditional Sunday Roasts and pub classics. Vegan and vegetarian options. A nice touch that although my wife chose a main that was shown as "vegan" on the menu, they thoughtfully asked if she was indeed vegan (or vegetarian) before the food arrived so as to tailor accompanying veg/roasties/yorkshire pud accordingly. Starters, mains and desserts were all simply presented, without excessively flamboyant garnishes etc but that's no criticism, just an observation - the food itself was very good indeed. Really enjoyed our starter - roasted asparagus with garlic mushrooms. Only minor criticism being that one of the sides (cauliflower cheese) was a bit over-browned. Swiftly noted by server and a replacement offered (but declined - it really was no big deal). I had the classic beer-batter fish with chunky chips. Menu said mushy peas but regular petit pois were served. Superb "chunky" chips and chef really nailed that beer batter (apparently using Hooky ale - seems to work well at any rate - delightfully light batter with no soggy bits or over-hard bits either). Generous portions all round, so both of us elected to "leave a little room for our desserts" We both enjoyed our meal and will doubtless be back at some point in the near future.

The New Inn has been regularly recommended by friends, but we found it very disappointing when visiting with family for Sunday Lunch. It started badly because diners at an adjacent table had two dogs and the smell was overwhelming. In my opinion dogs should not be allowed at tables where people are eating - I would have walked out in other circumstances. The food was average at best. On the plus side there is a very good welcome and the staff are good.

Good playlist playing on the stereo and lots of local and less local punters (like us) made for a lovely atmosphere. We both had fish and chips. The fish was beautiful and the batter was so crisp and light. We were both stuffed but I couldn’t resist trying a desert. The pud I had was a classic syrup sponge pudding with custard, which is just what I needed after a long day at Silverstone! It was soooo good.Service was really good and always with a smile. Phoned and booked a table 2 days in advance for 4 on a Thursday night after a game of golf. When we arrived we were met with derisory tones and told “no you didn’t book” and “it wasn’t me who took your booking cos I wasn’t working on Tuesday”she got my name wrong 3 times (despite correcting her each time) whilst disputing that I had booked at all. She did offer to ring the Kings Head in Syresham but disappeared and left us waiting for 10 minutes even though we had asked for a drink, we offered to sit at one of the empty outside tables and explained we didn’t mind waiting for food. This was also met with a flat No! so we left! We went to the Crown in Weston who squeezed us in despite being equally as busy as the New Inn. and had a great meal. Such a shame that our local has ostracised 4 local people and their families!

Food is still lovely, absolutely perfect for taking friends to eat when they come over. We have been to the New Inn so often prior to lockdown and service had been first class.Something has changed since we are moving away from lockdown, initially everything as normal, great service, but then after our main course the table was cleared at 8:45pm and we sat and sat until 9:40pm, no one came to see if we required additional drinks, or if we wanted a dessert. Eventually everyone in our party gave up, we had to go and request the bill, when it arrived we sat again wondering if anyone wanted to take payment. A lovely meal spoilt by poor service not sure if they just wanted us to go. Do they want us back?

We've ordered three delivered takeaways via The New Inn over the past three months or so. Our latest one was delivered Sat 29th Aug,( Order for James, Blakesley ).The food and experience has been outstanding. The super friendly and helpful lady on the phone ( Kings Head ) taking the orders is so welcoming and personable. The delivery times are spot on and the food is hot, tasty and very fresh. Pub quality food delivered at a very reasonable price. We've had fish and chips, mushy peas and the amazing burgers. They serve the salad and sauces separately to the burgers so when you receive them delivered they are not soggy and the finished result is better quality. We'll definitely visit the pub soon and will be supporting this lovely local again. Not many places deliver to Blakesley which is a huge mistake on the part of local pubs and takeaways, there is such a demand for it and there's money to spend. New Inn have certainly jumped on the bandwagon and good luck to them, they deserve it.

I promised my wife I would be nice so I will not mention the 1 and a 1/4 hours it took to get the main course served. Annoying when someone who came in at 8.50 pm was served within 25 minutes! I will not mention the absence of any attempt by anybody to ask us if we wanted another drink. At one point I was going to tell the waiter that it was too late to ask but no one ever asked us. We were put in the corridor route to the cellar so without an excuse me the staff kept coming and squeezing past to get there. I will not mention the hunt my wife had to find the steak in the steak and kidney pudding she had. Cost cutting perhaps? We passed the honesty test by pointing out that the bill was £4 in our favour. We have complemented the last course we were told. Communication is not a strong point here as surely any sensible other place would have told us they had done this. No the honesty test instead. As for my food I enjoyed the starter, main course and desert plus the beer was super. It is a friendly pub with a friendly landlord. A real pity that this time the service was so slow and poor.

The owners are so friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was fully booked (always a good sign) but they easily sorted us a table in the bar area. The beer is great and very importantly the food is epic. We shared a scotch egg to start, then had steak and kidney pudding for mains followed by chocolate and pear Charlotte for dessert. This place is not beautifully decorated and that is one of the reasons I love it. It is one of the few pubs that reminds me of how pubs used to be before they lost their atmosphere and became ‘gastro pub restaurants’. This place has a hearty, homely welcome and open fire, perfect to drop in for a pint after walking the dog or (as we did) settle in to eat yourself into a coma.

The prefix is great. Great food. Great service. Great atmosphere. Great chef. If there is one pub you want to visit this weekend make it the new inn at Abthorp you will not be disappointed!

Still good food, but STILL appears to be under staffed! Nobody at the bar when we walked in, when she did appear she was very apologetic, slow to take our order, a fair wait for the excellent food. Having been there an hour for a lunch we couldn’t wait to order a sweet, so paid and left!

We went to this pub as foods look really good in tripadvisor.Visited on a quiet thursday lunchtime for my hubby’s birthday but after few minutes of ordering our drinks from the counter who by the way was asked by the guy in the bar for us to get the drinks first before sitting down without greeting us or any interaction as it’s our first time, the pub was busy after then.

We were recommended this place and as we pulled up - we were a little dubious as it needs a lick of paint.

Popped in the pub for a beer after recommendation. Decided to try a few starters which were delicious. We will definitely be back as the food was fab and the menu looks great.

We had some friends staying for the weekend and decided to go out for Sunday Lunch. Fortunately we had booked as it was very busy, I couldn’t see a vacant table from where I was sitting. In spite of the amount of customers the service was excellent. All the staff were very friendly and efficient. We will be returning soon and I would have no problem recommending this pub/restaurant to anyone.

We were recommended by the people we were staying with as a great place to go and eat. I’ll be honest in saying that had she not recommended it we would have probably turned away. As you pull into the car park it’s pretty scruffy and doesn’t give the

Found this pub by using the Camra App as the place we were going to eat was busy. Was greeted by a staff member in the car park and once we got in even though they were busy they found a table which was just about to clear. Lovely beer and food. We were even thanked by the Kitchen staff as we lefted. A place we will visit again next time we are at Silverstone Circuit.

Went to this pub as we were staying with friends in Towcester. Immediately we walked into the pub we were greated with a friendly hello and be with you in a moment. The service continued to be friendly and welcoming. Food excellent I chose both starters and main off the specials board. Cod fish cakes to start 3 little fish cakes with a tangy sauce then the whole plaice on the bone. Both very nicely presented. The plaice was excellent. Wine very reasonably priced if you are looking for great food at reasonable prices this is the pub.

We came here for dinner on a Saturday night, booked around half an hour before so we were lucky to get a table in the bar. Lovely warm, friendly welcome when we arrived, drinks ordered at the bar were automatically put on our tab and there was a lovely table reserved for us in the bar by the window.

Tucked away in the little village of Abthorpe you will find this ideal country pub run by Rob Smith and family. Offering delicious food and even more delightful real ales. With a real welcoming and friendly atmosphere. The only pub in the whole area we have been visiting for 22 years. Well worth a visit or two ! And if you need nearby accommodation then you should investigate the family farm of Slapton Manor

Staying at Slapton Manor I had intended to walk across the fields but sadly the rain came down so I had to take the car. Pub was full of friendly locals (met a lovely bulldog) and it had all you'd desire in a country pub. Had a splendid meal with really friendly service.

Found this pub recently. It has either a fixed menu or other options. Beer good. Service depending on numbers inside the pub varies from very good to reasonable. Would not choose steak on fixed menu but other choices are well worth a visit.

Had a lovely evening meal in this busy pub. Menu had some interesting and different choices. Only problem was when one of the party found a bone in the filleted piece of salmon, so couldn't eat any more. We commented on this and got no response until they produced the bill and had knocked one of the starters off it., which as quite a bit had been eaten before the bone was found was very generous

Friday evening 7:30pm and the pub is full. We had booked a table for eight people. We were met by the landlady and shown to our table. From then until we left we were extremely well looked after and the food was excellent. It is so good to see a village pub doing so well.

We went to the old talbot today the waitress could not do enough for us . The food was not very good the chicken parmigiana was so dry and overcooked could not be eaten . The beef cobbler was nothing like the descrption in the menu it was a beef srew with a few bits of fatty chewy beef in a bowl of gravy looked like soup with 2 raw dumplings not a cheese scone in sight and the veg was in the gravy mash came out later after the chef forgot . We paid nearly £30 for a steak that came out cold .We did not enjoy the cheesecake . Tasted vegan .
