The Countryman in Blaby

This was a spontaneous visit having not been before nor had any recommendations. Normally, this type of excursion is disappointing but not on this occasion. We looked at their website before visiting which looked good, the reality is it is better in the flesh. A lovely welcome with very friendly staff. The choice of drinks is great with some lovely real ales and decent wines. The star of the show is the food. A relatively simple menu but our choice of coq au vin was wonderful. The deserts are also to die for! Prices are very reasonable especially with the quality of the food and service. We will be back!!!

Wow. I am a non pizza lover until a week ago. Forget those high street pizza places. Go and try the Brickies pizzas. They are Cooked within an inch (centimetre) of perfection. Absolutely gorgeous. If you don’t like it, message me and I’ll repay you.

Called in for lunch, the carpark is across the road, we only wanted sandwiches but they didn't do any, so we had to have just starters which were very good. We sat in the garden which was OK. Would still recommend

The interior is lovely and very comfortable, the food should have been warmer and the cauliflower cheese should have been cooked (Solid), but the biggest disappoint was the lack of customer service. Excessive waiting, for drinks, for dinner, for deserts; and the lack of apology or even understanding from the lady who appeared to be charge. She appeared flustered and her response was just snarky comments. Surprised anyone goes back, and I see from previous reviews that this is nothing new. Staff training required.

Sunday roast is absolutely delicious, high quality service & produce. Sharps brewery beers. Lovely homemade puddings. Plentiful of sides & gravy would return and highly recommend. Book ahead as popular for a reason.

As a group of friends, we had a fantastic meal last night at the bricklayers, the new menu had a ribeye steak with a chorizo oil and dauphinoise it was absolutely brilliant. Highly recommended

What a find! I decided to take the wife here for a nice meal as it has a fantastic reputation. We were super surprised as the food we received was fantastic, well presented, super tasty and seasoned perfectly, the bar was a bit rowdy but if you can drown it out, the foods worth it.

This establishment was recommended to us by friends, so I booked it for Sunday lunch to celebrate my daughters 40th birthday. It turned out to be one of the worst meals I have had. The prawn cocktail was awful, tough lettuce, mostly the stem, under ripe tomatoes, no lemon on the side, and minimal prawns. The mains, undercooked cauliflower cheese, you could just about cut though it, broccoli was the same, meat was just warm, sauces were good though, out of jars. Very, very disappointing and certainly not worth the price.

Food was excellent but…… service was absolutely terrible! Shown to our table whilst taking the drinks order. Drinks were delivered and then we waited and waited and waited. Eventually after some time, I went to find someone to take the food order. Food was delivered in no time and was excellent. Then, after being given the dessert menu, we sat, and sat, and sat…… eventually we gave up, walked up to the bar and paid for the one course we had been served. 80 mins for one course?. Such a shame. Obviously a lot of care had been taken with the refurbishment etc , only for the service to be nonexistent

I went with my friend for Sunday lunch here and we were very disappointed with the customer service. We tasted the cauliflower cheese however we could not eat it as it was far too hot with pepper. Who puts black pepper in cauliflower cheese?! We asked for this to be changed and we were brought out the exact same. There was nothing offered to us for example a coffee or a pudding. They didn't want to do anything to make our experience better there which was a disgrace. The customer is supposed to always right, obviously not here. You should be accommodating to your customers not just say the chef has done a large batch. I had terrible indigestion after coming here. The food itself wasn't fresh, it was lukewarm. It is very overpriced here, not worth the money. Such a shame as I've had a nice experience in the past but this experience has completely put us off coming here again.

First time here despite living in the area for many many years. We really enjoyed it. The staff were very polite and efficient. This was a really strong part of the appeal. We were pleased with our meals and the price was quite reasonable. We particularly liked the main bar area which was warm and cosy. The wine was very good. We will certainly return as it is nice to have food that has not been “cooked”in a microwave. The full car park was a testament to just how popular this place has become.

Lovely pub, friendly staff and fabulous food. Best Sunday roast around. We go regularly and find it's consistently good. Would highly recommend.

Really wonderful venue. The pub side has a real cosy, warm, homely feel. The restaurant side is very elegant and classy. Staff always seem to want to ensure your happy and are extremely helpful. It's a place I'd say you feel better for having visited. Gives you that sense of belonging and made to feel welcome.

There was eight of for Sunday Lunch 01/10/2023. I can easily say it was one of the finest Sunday Lunches we have been out for all around Hinckley, Burbage and Sharnford we have. The staff were extremely polite and efficient.

Myself and a number of friends wanted a Sunday lunch and managed to get a table at the Brikkies. Had soup to start which was very nice followed by a trio of meats sunday lunch.The meal was excellent being well cooked and very tasty with more than enough of it. I couldn't manage a sweet but several of my friends did and enjoyed what they had. with 2 or 3 courses and drinks £30 per head was pretty good.

Had an incredible beef Sunday roast at The Bricklayers. Everything was super tasty! I especially loved the cauliflower cheese and sweet potato mash. The pub restaurant was a friendly atmosphere with attentive staff. There were also good Covid measures in place. Highly recommend - thank you for a lovely meal.

Still the best Sunday Lunch in the area and if you want to go you really do need to book Good social distancing measures in place and we feel safe there Staff are excellent

Excellent food, excellent service and really nice pub. The staff are friendly and bend over backwards to make our meal the best. The restaurant is clean and has things in place for the current situation with Covid. Well worth the 25 minute drive. 5* all the way and we will be going back.

Went to day for lunch,five of us,all meals were excellent,two mini fish n chips and 2 gammon and egg and one soup,all very good. Plus three puddings,also very good,will go again very soon, lovely place for either a drink or meal,good range of real ales.recently refurbished.

Went for Sunday lunch today and wow ! It was fantastic - lots of food and all cooked fantastically- the beef cooked to perfection and well rested , my partner who’s vegetarian had the cheese soufflé which was also superb, only one criticism would be the servings were so generous we didn’t have room for desert - we’ll definitely be back again , thank you

Wife had the Brie for starters which I had to help her with and it was great. I had the ribeye and it was fantastic lovely atmosphere and staff were great will definitely be going back.

Came back again here for lunch with friends, there is a nice warm atmosphere and greeting upon arrival, a good selection of ales and wine, the menu is good with another choice of specials and an oap special too. Nice pub, clean and warm, went for lunchtime pensioners menu, food was good as was the service and of adequate quantity, the only complaint was the price of a starter and a sweet was a similar price to the main course, as a member of a lunch club travelling to many venues in the area it did not satisfy on price compared to others, a starter is normally included in the price and sweets around £1.50 extra if they wish to attract lunchtime oldies they need to look at their prices, but maybe they are happy but will loose trade, i wont be going again neither the forty people i travel with.

Just popped in for a drink and some snacks while passing. What a lovely pub. Clean, modern and friendly. Definitely coming back to eat as food looked really nice.

Myself and my partner stopped off here least week on a whim with my little daughter, we had a lovely meal and were made to feel so welcome by the lovely staff who went above and beyond as my daughter was playing up as toddlers do, they really couldn't do enough for us. Staying with friends in the area, they said they had heard good things about the Bricklayers so suggested we go for dinner. Unfortunately it could have been any pub from Scilly to Skegness.

Had a lovely meal for my mother in laws birthday back in September. Food was really nice and the staff were excellent, all very friendly and made my mother in law feel special on her birthday. I didn’t bring a cake so they put a candle in her pudding, the grandkids loved singing happy birthday to her. Great evening had by all, thank you.

I Have to The Countryman for years. Yesterday We returned for lunch with a friend . The staff was friendly and helpful . We read the menu there wasn't a lot of choice at all we struggled to find something poor selection .

We found this pub whilst cycling in the area and are so glad we did! The menu offers great choice but most importantly the food is so tasty it brought a smile to our faces the first time we had lunch there. First thing we noticed was the quality of the ingredients and the fact nothing feels mass produced or cooked from frozen. My gammon and chips was simply lovely (well cooked and tasty) and felt the portion size was generous. The staff are super pleasant and genuinely try to make you feel welcome and well cared for.

We have just returned home after enjoying a delicious roast turkey lunch at 'The Bricklayers', Sharnford. We sat outside in the beer garden, very peaceful. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful, the food was perfectly cooked and well presented. Will definitely be returning here on a regular basis.

We had heard great things about the Sunday lunch here and so We gave it ago. We booked a table and they were very friendly on the phone and on arrival. We were quickly seated and the pub had a relaxed atmosphere. Our main waitress was super friendly, down to earth and great with us and the children. The other members of staff were equally friendly and lovely. The food looked amazing and tasted even better. Everything was perfectly cooked and my son had the vegetarian Sunday lunch. It was cheese souffle and we all had a taste and it was excellent. We had the honeycomb cheesecake & cream and the black forest trifle and they were delicious. Would highly recommend and will definately be back. Great food and great service. Thank you.

We visited this pub on Wednesday evening after racing back from Heathrow airport following a business trip. The flight had been delayed and we tried to get back to Leicester in order to get something to eat. We arrived at the restaurant at 8:55pm. My partner asked the waitress if we could have a table for two, she bluntly replied we close at nine and carried on with her duties. The restaurant was quite busy so we did not think it would have been a problem. We were disappointed they could not accommodate us this evening.

The food, particularly from the specials board, and service here is pretty exceptional and all I will say is go try it as I'm pretty sure that you won't be disappointed.

The first time we came here the tapas blew us away, we have been here quite a few times since, the food is a bit hit and miss, the tapas is over cooked and very very very very dry, If they sort this issue out and maybe add a few more dips it will be brilliant. The quality of ingredients are great.

My wife and I were just passing through the area when we stumbled upon The Bricklayers. We only stayed for a pint and a quick bite to eat. We both just had sandwiches. But I must say the quality of all the ingredient was superb. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming. It’s nice to see a local pub that close at half past two in the afternoon aswell. There’s to many open all day places these days. Thank you for a pleasant unexpected lunch.

Just stopped on a Friday lunchtime to have a bit of lunch .... very nice, my only compliant is the portion size was great but there was NO ROOM FOR DESSERT that’s very unusual 😋will definitely be back.

We went to the Bricklayers for a family meal for my sons birthday, we were welcomed and seated, the waitress took our drinks order and brought it to our table, we ordered our food and didn't have to wait long at all for it to arrive, plates were hot as was the food.

We decided to visit the bricklayers for there tapas and pizza night, for my grandads birthday. Where we disappointed? No chance the food was amazing especially the home made calzones. Would like to thank the team and the amazing chefs for all there hard work will definitely be back

Roast beef was tough and sinewy Wife's chicken was good Suggest a change of beef supplier, almost choked on a ball of gristle that stuck in my throat

Myself and friend decided to go to the Bricklayers for lunch after it was recommended to us by a friend who had been there the previous week with a large walking group and said how good it was.

Went on a date night and we found the service was second to none and the home made food was incredible. Good banter with the owner who goes out of his way to greet everyone. Give it a go you will not be disappointed.

Whats not to like about this place. Food is always good, generous portions, presented nicely & excellent friendly service. There is a menu of smaller portion meals for those of 'advanced years'. Garden area is good and has Petanque terrain. We come here once a month for lunch and to play petanque. Then afterwards we have hot chocolate and a chat on comfy sofas. Working our way through menu, everything tasty - well done Bricklayers!

A fine friendly village pub with nice restaurant.

This was the third pub we visited as we hadn’t reserved a table and the others were full. It looked a nice establishment with a large parking place opposite. We were greeted well and given a table. The drinks were tasty and well kept , they were brought to our table. The menu was very limited, just a Sunday lunch with various meats. We ordered the beef which arrived surprisingly quickly. It was very well presented and tasty. The vegetables were well cooked and not el dente. It was A very pleasant visit. For those who take pets, it was dog friendly.
