Spread Eagle Pub & Restaurant in Newark and Sherwood

We were there for a family funeral. The staff were fabulous. The buffet laid on was excellent, great quality and lots of choices. I highly recommend

Our family of 8,visited Saturday lunchtime. Greeted and shown to our table by a friendly young lady. The food and service was perfect, no complaints at all. Excellent value for money, will definitely return

Visited with my mum just after 2pm on a Tuesday. Unbeknown to me that they finished serving food at 2pm. Lady at the bar was welcoming and said she would check with the kitchen. She came back saying it was absolutely fine that we could order food. So happy that we could. We both had the haddock and chips with mushy peas. Beautiful fish in a delicious crispy batter. Great chips and mushy peas and the curry sauce that I also had was perfect. The right amount of spice to complement the fish. Great little pub with very friendly staff. Shame we live over the other side of Nottingham, as I think I we would be frequent visitors.

Popped in for an Excellent mid week fish and chip dinner and banoffi cheese cake. All made by Blake and Mat was t her typical welcoming self

Great quick visit on a Thursday evening. We both had a pie and they were large slices from real, homemade pies (Steak & Ale, Chicken & Ham) they were fantastic. Wonderful mash, sides and plenty of gravy. The service was spot on and the Aspalls was perfect.

Had an excellent lunch to celebrate our anniversary , first time here under this management and very pleasant it was too! We both ate fajitas as we seldom see them on a restaurant menu and both the steak and the chicken were delicious and plentiful!! Deserts were also very nice but my one criticism is that the starters menu was a little uninspiring! That said, left me enough room for a delicious sticky toffee pudding 😋😋

Father's Day lunch at the Spread Eagle. No better place to go. It was busy but the service was excellent. Natalie on the team were on top form and the food - which was very good - was presented well and lovely and hot.

Travelling in our Campervan, on a return trip from Suffolk, looking for a place to eat, we chanced upon this pub.An attractive exterior, reasonable size car park (has to be) the interior is well decorated & bright. The menu, though not extensive is sufficiently varied, all dishes are 'freshly made' on the premises, I chose the Steak pie, my wife had Scampi, both were largely proportioned, with a choice of Garden or mushy peas, chips or mash & other veg. Served on warmed plates (always nice when they do that) condiments on demand (Not everybody has Mayo on their chips !!) Although sated, we decided on a 'pudding' one we'd never had before, Cornflakes soaked in honey'pie' with a strawberry filling with vanilla icecream..yummy !!!! All told, an excellent meal in a really nice pub.

"Where shall we go?" we said and 10 miles from home we found the Spread Eagle. I think when they do their stock-take we're now included on the inventory. Yes, we are regulars and for good reasons. Blake (Chef) and Natalie are always on hand and Chloe and team do an excellent job. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The meals are always well presented and tasty and the desserts ....... well you just have to try one! Having a log fire centre stage we find the restaurant cosy and relaxing.

First visit since the pub reopened. Very good ambiance. Greeted warmly by a member of staff who showed us to a table and presented the menu. My friend selected a gluten free meal, mushroom stroganoff with chicken. A huge portion was delivered for her. She managed to clear her plate but had no room for dessert. I chose Hunters Chicken which again was a very big portion, beautifully cooked and served. Absolutely delicious. Decent selection of wine and beers. Reasonable prices too We will be back for more.

Driven passed so many times and really want to visit since it reopened. Went for Sunday Lunch on the spur of the moment and was not disappointed. Dining room is modern and well decorated, plenty of space. Staff team is quite young but obviously know what they are doing, friendly but professional. Food was very nice, all home cooked and plenty of it. Looking forward to going back.

We went on Friday night with our young grand daughter and had a very enjoyable meal. Staff were lovely and friendly and very welcoming. We all throughly enjoyed our meals and will return.

We go hear every two weeks , the staff, the food out this world, great log fire, all on the flat so very good for wheelchairs, again you must book to have a great meal, thay have turned this place round, well done, to all-out

Really friendly and warm welcome, good choice of starters and mains, thoroughly enjoyed the rib-eye (3 of us had this), the curry and scampi were also lovely. Staff really good and attentive enough without being pushy. Although I am probably barred for life after trying to give them Euro instead of £ as tip 🤣😂; that’ll teach me to put specs on, so sorry; very embarrassed! 😳

This was our first visit to the Spread Eagle in the village of Hockerton since it changed hands about a year ago. Already we had heard that it was building up a great reputation. On arriving we were immediately struck by the friendliness of the front of house team. The service was excellent. The menu choices are very traditional and between the four of us we chose fish steak and pies. We were all impressed ! The chips were home made; the steak was tender, the fish was excellent and the steak and ale pies were great too as was the mash and the mushy peas. Towards the end of our meal the chef ( patron) came to visit which was a nice touch. Meals are well priced and the whole team are to be congratulated.

Friendly hosts serving great quality food at a great price we’ve been a few times now and always had a lovely meal the fish and chips are outstanding the steak was excellent the chips are home made I intend to work my way through the menu defo recommend a visit

Amazing. Very friendly. Great decor. Pub vibe but restaurant standard food. Great selection. Son said steak was best ever, and he's always chooses the steak, better than a miller and carter steak were his exact words! Sadly not really in an area we will visit often but highly recommend. My second time here. It’s so nice to go and eat where the staff are really helpful and nothing seems too much trouble for them all including the Chef who really should be congratulated. Absolutely delicious lunch. Two of us had the most excellent sirloin steak and one of us fish and chips. We ignored the fact we were meant to be on diets and also had scrumptious puddings. I recommend this pub wholeheartedly.

This was our first time going to this pub, thought we would try it as the reviews were very good. Called a few hour’s before to book table and was told they only had table in conservatory. When we arrived it wasn’t really a conservatory just a very small room separate from main pub with 3 tables, was very disappointing as wasn’t like the main restaurant. We both ordered the pie which was very nice and a decent portion and good value for money, but for the dessert, I had the cheesecake which was the smallest piece I’ve ever seen! About a twelfth of a cake maybe smaller! And for £6.50 which was a bit stingy to say the least. But I couldn’t really tell you if it was nice or not as it was that small of a piece. My partner had cornflake tart and that was quite a decent portion. So overall it was ok but nothing to rave about.

4 lovely meals with generous portions in lovely setting. The penang curry was judged as the best ever had by two of us and good value. Nice touch for chef to come and check with us after the meal.
