As my friend had a big birthday (she won’t want me to divulge her age) 😜 I decided to take her somewhere new. I had seen Platform 29 on various social media sites & thought it looked very pleasant, so booked. Having never been to Ratcliffe in Trent, we set off on our adventure & we were not disappointed. The staff were all very lovely, nothing was too much trouble, even when my friend had an intolerance to mayo which I hadn’t told them about when I booked & they had asked about dietary requirements. 🤦🏼♀️ They made her some plain sandwiches which were equally delightful. The sandwiches were amazing, the bread was very fresh & light, the fillings plentiful. The scones were some of the best I’ve had anywhere & I’ve sampled a few in my time! Now I’m struggling to fine the words to describe the cakes (lemon & chocolate) as they were a triumph! The were so light & delicious, again some of the nicest I have had, with or without afternoon tea. I would just like to say a really big “thank you” to them for making the experience memorable in truly the best way!

Amazing food & fruit smoothies! I’ve never once had a bad meal everything tastes amazing the soup is always something different which I love the variety! Most places stick to the same soup every week! The fruit smoothies are actually addictive there that good and so refreshing!!! Definitely the best scran in the three towns by miles!! The staff can’t do enough to help you and make sure you are 100% happy with everything! Honestly you couldn’t fault it!

Came here with a friend we were visiting. Nice little tea room. Food is delicious and cooked fresh everyday. Having came here on our friends recommendation I certainly recommend this tea room. Made to feel very welcome. We took the last of the scones home to enjoy. I'd also like to recommend the luxury milkshake. That was really nice. The bacon brie and cranberry Panini is also a good choice.

We have been visiting the Chestnut on and off since it changed from the Cliff Inn so many a year, but Friday was the worst, don't get me wrong the Bar staff and serving staff are excellent, very attentive, polite and helpful, but if they get no back up from the Kitchen, they are embarrassed and uncomfortable taking orders and delivering food, we arrived on time and were seated at our reserved table, the waitress then gave us the menu and had to explain that the top three items on the menu were not available and there were no Pizza's either, this left three items to choose from and a list of sides, we should have left then !, we preceded to order with the food taking an age, on delivery the Large fish and chips was more like a mini fish and hundreds of chips, the burger was presented well and so were the sides, none of the food appeared to have been lovingly prepared but crisis managed, the wings were inedible the further we got down the plate, over all a not very pleasant experience, I appreciate that there have been problems with chef's at the Chestnut, but with such a reduced menu you don't need a Chef, someone should have rung us before we arrived to say there was a reduced menu, did we still want the reservation, rather than letting us turn up and be disappointed this is a great drinkers pub, but the food let them down this time in my opinion with the Manvers re-opening soon they need to get their act together sharpish

Decided to drop in for lunch instead of going to the Pub. Always love the service as it’s friendly and personal . Can’t go wrong with the food, it’s kinda basic but fresh and ‘it does what it says on the tin’ so to speak. Too be honest just love having a pot of tea , ( most places just do a mug’ Just struggle with the small china cups but that’s just my big sausage fingers . Will be back soon .
