Visited yesterday.First meal out since restrictions have been relaxed. We had the Sunday lunch which was disgusting. Food stone cold and all absolutely tastelees. Vegetables tasted as though they had been cooking for days and the Yorkshire pudding tasted a rancid fat. My friends mixed grill was very poor and the steak tasted like a bit of leather. The staff were very good about the matter and gave us complimentary desert and how much reduced bill on the other food. The group is called probably the best pub in the world. I think this should be the worst not the best.

Used to visit when my kiddies were little. Driving nearby today & decided to stop for a late lunch. We were very well received and shown immediately to an inside table - the sun was shining but the manager assured us it was going to rain shortly (& it did)Everyone very Covid aware. Menu full of lots of nice things - we opted for the lunchtime menu. I had the Greek chicken - it was lovely - sauce delicious. My husbands meal was also very good. Staff were attentive without overdoing itLovely friendly atmosphere, great staff, good food (& drink) What more could one want for our first " after Covid " meal away from home. Will definitely be calling again.

My husband and I visited the Plough for lunch. We were very impressed with the menu. The fish pie was delicious and my husband's choice of gammon looked tasty too. We would definitely recommend it. The staff were very friendly and attentive too. Lots of covid measures in place which is reassuring. We will definitely be back.

we visited on a quiet tuesday night, we were greeted at the door, with a walm welcome and plenty of procedures in place for covid-19, track and trace, sanitiser and temperature checks, we had a table in the restaurant, a beautiful setting, gary was our server, he was lovely and nothing was too much trouble for him! i had the rancho grande and my boyfriend had the roast lamb, we had all the sides (chips, veg, salad and new potatoes), the veg looked amazing and everything was fresh and hot! our food was bought to us by jordan who was also so lovely! we were too full for dessert but 100% will be going back to try some of the desserts on the menu! despite everything going on at the moment the staff were still positive and happy, keep doing what you’re doing and see you soon x

I usually judge places by the numbers already enjoying their visit, and the Plough is certainly very popular' Unfortunately, the food was a let down. On our first visit my wife enjoyed her meal, but mine was very disappointing, Steak and gammon were both tough, and sausage lacked flavour and was also somewhat tough. Giving the place a second chance, we both had fish and chips. Very nice, except that there was so little fish! It looked as if they had searched the country for the smallest portions. The surroundings on a warm summer's day are unbeatable. A pity the food comes nowhere near to unbeatable

We arrived early and sat outside by the lovely canal in hope for a relaxing drink al fresco, to be told the waiting time for drinks was twenty minutes. We ventured inside on this 30 degree August day (7:30pm) and were sat opposite the bar in a boiling hot corner. You won’t find air con or any kind of fan in this place. With the heat bouncing off the Perspex screen to our side due to social distancing, we slowly melted as the meal went on (of course not the staff’s fault) just saying don’t come here during a heat wave when they don’t serve food outside! The loaded potato skins were exactly what you want them to be, cheesy, indulgent and carby. Add slices of red onion from your side salad on top and you have created a delicacy, trust me. The halloumi fries were what you expect of halloumi, salty, squeaky sticks of goodness. The mains were interesting... I ordered the chicken roulade wrapped in Palma ham with a Stilton gravy. I expected the chicken to be stuffed and was disappointed when the meat was bone dry, even when covered in sauce which didn’t bear the slightest resemblance to Stilton or any kind of cheese and was basically gravy granules mixed with a dash of wine. The new potatoes were delicious but make sure to ask for extra mini packets of Lurpak and cover in salt!!! The chips were a soggy disaster and WHO GETS CHIPS WRONG? I’m sorry but if you’re going for pub grub you need a decent chip, no wonder they are offering free top ups of chips because everyone’s plates are going back with a pile of them remaining. The obliterated boiled vege side that comes with all mains is cold, slimey and all nutrients have long been depleted so you may as well spare yourself of the chewing and farts. On to my partners main, he decided to design his own surf and turf, with a trio of crab cakes, battered cod and a 4oz rump steak. The steak was average and clearly not grass fed, would have been nicer if covered in peppercorn sauce. Crab cakes did their job. The fish on the other hand was a big let down, bland, unseasoned and quite revolting. Having no edible chips meant that we were relying on the main components of our meal being pleasant, but they were rubbish, just plain rubbish. The starters were fail safe but they didn’t really require any culinary expertise or cooking at all. If you’re hungry when getting a pint then I’d recommend a starter but don’t be tempted to go for a main. Onto the desert, the worst course of all. We ordered an ICE CREAM sundae, and it didn’t have any ice cream in at all. Not joking, no ice cream, at all. It was 30 degrees on this day, so maybe it had melted by the time it got to us, but our glass cup was just cream, cream and a few bits of SOGGY WAFFLE. Highlights of the meal were the hobgoblin shandy, halloumi and potato skins. Also I do not advise sitting in the bar area as the staff members enjoy overlooking your every move, and I mean, every move. We asked if we could move but that’s a whole other story. Just don’t go here unless you want to sit outside for a drink and don’t mind waiting. The view makes a good Instagram photo though.

I visited intending to have a pint and a late lunch. After registering I sat at a table by the river (lovely location) and my drink order was taken. I was subsequently asked to change my order as that beer had run out and that was when I discovered that I would have to go inside if I wanted to eat. I had happily eaten outside there a couple of weeks before and enjoyed the meal, so it was disappointing not to be able to do so again.

My partner and I visited with friends to celebrate a pregnancy and a birthday. Both parties traveled 45 minutes to the restaurant following recommendations. Our table was booked for 6:30 and we were advised we would only have an hour and a half slot which is understandable. At 7:30ish; our mains arrived, which would have been fine, however we had not yet received our starters. When we raised this, our waitress said that there had been some confusion and they were not our mains; but another tables. This was a lie.At 7:50 our starters arrived. Followed by our mains a little after 8pm, much to the annoyance of our pregnant friend. Many other tables arrived, ate and left before our mains arrived. Our starters were taken of the bill, however we were so disappointed with the visit and embarrassed we had suggested and recommend the plough. We ordered drinks throughout the night which never arrived and I personally was disappointed in the presentation of the trio meal I had. Whilst the manager was super apologetic, I still don’t understand how the service was so poor with what seemed to be ample staff and a pub that wasn’t overly busy. The location is beautiful and the outside seating is lovely. An nice place to stop for a drink with friends... providing your happy to wait an hour for it.

Delightful setting & very welcoming. The staff are very polite & very efficient, 10 out of 10. Huge menu, difficult to decide. The food is what i like to class as first class pub food but that is exactly what it is, i think a lot of it is pre-prepared & have to say the bowl of chips was poor. That is not to say i wouldn't return though, starters & desserts delicious & over all excellent value.

This just cropped up on my groupon account when I was looking for a special deal for my partner's birthday weekend. Tweaking it so groupon thought I was new, I managed the pair of two-course meals for £20 all in, which was superlative value. The crab fish cakes are tiny wee but make a substantial enough starter for what's to come, while my partner's creamy mushrooms, on garlic bruschetta with salad, was almost a main. She loved the roast lamb, as it was a Sunday lunch, although I wasn't quite so keen on the Barnsley lamb chop – for what was supposed to be medium it still seemed very red. But while I'd not choose that dish again I'd leap at the chance to return – bottomless (within reason) chips or potatoes, and veg or salad, mean nobody leaves hungry – and heck the desserts looked classy as well. If you currently google the menu you get something that offers more dishes than we were able to pick from, but still it has a much more substantial variety than many similar countryside venues. The 'nut roast' equivalent, made with wild rice, honeyed vegetables and port could almost make a veggie out of me for an afternoon – this place has many such temptations, and I'd certainly recommend it. Good ambience, more than decent staff – this is a new favourite.

Went here last night with 4 girlfriends. Had bought a Groupon voucher for 4. They were very helpful with the 5th person! We were seated in the Garden room, which was decorated lovely, on a nice round table. All been refurbished since floods I think! Felt we got a bit forgotten in this room though, as only ones in there after about 8pm! Food was okay, nothing special but good sized portions. I had the lamb rump and sadly it was very tough. They offered me another one, but said it was from the same cut of meat! I declined and had a yummy sweet instead! The staff were friendly and helpful and kindly did not charge me for the lamb, or the sweet in fact. But it would of been nicer to have enjoyed my lamb meal.Anyway, we had a great catch up and I have actually got another Groupon voucher (bought 2 at the same time) so will give them a second chance, with another group on girlfriends! So finger's crossed.

Had booked a table through the offer of Groupon, Never been over to The Plough before, but had many people in work recommend it.On arrival gave our name to the resonse by the General Manager of "oh its a Groupon booking! Surely it shouldnt matter what the booking is, or are we classed as a different type of customer!!The starters were very nicely presented and the service was good. Just as our mains were delivered yet again the General Manager passed by us and said to the Supervisor that he wanted Groupon written on the top of the tickets!! Yet again it was as if they were to be treated differently. The mains were very nice, chips were luke warm and the veg was carrots and leeks which was a bit different with a steak.Overal a nice meal but felt rather uneasy by keep hearing the word groupon. It simple do not offer a special offer if you do not want people to use it, We have found many restaurants that we repeatly now go to from using groupon, however we were made to feel second class

This is a nice looking pub set on the riverside. Lovely to sit outside and watch the boats and barges going by. Food was ok but menu outside is limited to ‘bar snacks’ which was rather disappointing. The choices were sandwiches, burgers, baguettes which for and evening meal is not great. I don’t understand why they can’t serve food from the main menu outside. You have to collect it yourself when you are buzzed (they give you a little pager) so what does it matter what you are collecting. I would think twice about coming here on a summer evening for food as I do like to be outdoors when the weather is good, however, I do not want a choice of burgers and chips or sandwiches. Might be ok at lunchtime but not in the evening. Shame.

FOOD COLD AND UNDERCOOKED, me and my partner went here for a nice lunchtime meal, ordered our meals and quite quickly (under 10 mins) they brought them out, only to find my butternut lasagne was cold, so i sent that back my boyfriend said his meat was warm but not hot, (he ate his) I was told that they'd make me a fresh one, so by the time mine arrived about 20mins later with the chips and veg my boyfriend had finished his, and yes mine was hot this time, but the chips were undercooked and the veg tasteless, the drinks are very expensive, over the years i have been to this pub a few times with no problems, so must be new staff and chef, hense to say will not be going back.

I was part of a large party for our annual Christmas lunch. Food was pre ordered. The room looked lovely when we arrived. Instead of crackers, we all had a Santa hat they were sitting in your wine glass which was a nice touch.

We came for a family meal to celebrate a birthday, everything seemed fine until we ordered food. We were first told we could not have any mix grills or gallon as the meat delivery was not ordered. Then when debating what to have as they had changed the menu over night they food came out cold or over cooked and had to be sent back. This caused us all to eat at different times and with a very soar taste in our mouths as we come to this establishment at least 5 or 6 times a year to family celebrations. After this experience we will not come again and suggest you review your menu and kitchen staff.

We have used this pub restaurant for many years - at lunchtime and in evenings - and we have always found the staff friendly and helpful. They are a young team, but they go our of their way to provide good service. The setting is lovely - in the centre of a small village and overlooking the River Soar, which makes it a popular venue in the summer on sunny days!

I have visited this pub on many previous occasions and I have honestly never had a bad meal. It offers a very large choice of food on the menu and although there is a dedicated restaurant room, we always choose to sit in the lounge area to eat (same menu). Here the atmosphere feels a little cosier and a little less formal.

Being a local I have frequented this pub for many years , it has always been ‘pricey’ I accepted that for its location , now it is looking decidedly shabby and recently the prices have escalated to an unacceptable level .

5 of us visited the Plough at Normanton on Soar on a Sunday evening and we had really lovely meals - all 5 chosing something different from the extensive menu and everything was presented and cooked to perfection. If you still have room for desert these are truly amazing in size and taste. The staff were very efficient, friendly and helpful.

Visited with the wife saturday evening. Place was about half full and we noticed tables being dragged about and set. We thought it was for a party. We ordered and our started were served. As our plates were taken the mains were put on the table. This is something i hate. We ate them and ordered coffee which again was served at 90mph

My wife and I have been to the Plough twice in the last six months, and on both occasions, we thoroughly enjoyed it. We went again last night to celebrate my birthday and I'm pleased to say that the Plough once again maintained its high standards. The service is good, staff attentive and polite whilst on every occasion, the food has been delicious. The rumpsteak I had last night was one of the best I've had, cooked exactly as I requested.

A busy, thriving pub especially on a sunny day. It is pleasant to sit outside and watch the boats go by on the river. The food is ok but nothing special. There is a good range of drinks and friendly staff.

Decided to have a late lunch. Plenty of tables after 15.00. Nice pint of Doombar. I had my favourite breaded mushrooms and my wife had a prawn cocktail. Mains were gammon steak and boozy bullock pie, piping hot and very nice. Too full for dessert.

Booked a table in advance (good idea) for an 8.00pm sit down. Lovely atmosphere, good feel. Food was hot, delicious and well-priced. Can recommend the mini mixed grill. Service a little slow, but we were in no great hurry and the ambience was enjoyable.

Now then Mr Michael Staniforth, I some criticism to offer, i had a very mediocre meal at your establishment didnt finish the meal as it was very greasy and taste less, when asked if the meal was ok i said not really explained to him and he said oh ok i will tell the chef and he went of laughing to himself, this is the second time in the plough and the first time wasn't much better so this was a second chance but there will not be a third. The setting is very nice on the river but the details let this place down, the place is not kept very well at all the seats are all stained and very grubby, outside there was glass all over the floor also spotted a member of kitchen staff smoking, just my opinion but not very professional. This place good be so much better but sadly from what i witnessed it will never be anything more than old village pub trying to be something its not.

I've had two previous meals here which I have thoroughly enjoyed which is why I decided to take my partner for a birthday meal. We booked a table for half 8 and upon arrival we were told that this is when the kitchen closes and it was a mistake. They had my contact details and could have made contact to explain prior to this. The food and the service felt rushed and this was evident when the mains were brought out. The medium rare steak I ordered was incredibly bloody and my partner's salmon was undercooked and quite raw in the middle and the vegetables were stringy. To be fair to the restaurant, we ate both our meals and didn't really make a peep until the plates were collected.

Not been here for sometime- seems a bit neglected but lovely area and setting by the River. We went to get drinks and order food. Seems a bit tired inside too. Toilets are really drab. Anyway it appears that they have a different menu outside to inside and you get a buzzer and have to go and collect your food and cutlery once ready. Food was very average- no one actually said they really enjoyed it and some of the item were quite pricey. Only the vegetarian Curry had any sort of comment of quite nice. I had a New York burger and it was horrible - I was expecting some nice meaty burger but got a really shrivelled tasteless patty but the other meals weren’t great. Such a shame as it could have been so much better. And still didn’t understand why they had two different menus???

Had lunch with my husband. We found a bewildering number of menus, any of which we could have ordered from depending on where you were sitting. There is a 'garden menu' for outside only, an 'early bird' menu, for the bar only then 'a la carte' for goodness knows where. Once we had been advised of what we could order where, we opted for the bar. Food was average, and although the staff were lovely, the service was not. It'll be a long while before we venture to the Plough again.

We have visited this restaurant/pub many times but very disappointing today. Service way off the mark. Sticky table, delay for food delivery when the pub was not overly busy. Expensive drinks. Travelled to visit but won’t be rushing back. Lovely location by the river but that’s about it.

My companions had chosen this venue to eat an "early bird" meal as they had visited before and liked it. However, my meal was practically inedible, but as I was being "treated" I did not like to complain. I chose gammon, which was, to quote a phrase, "like boot-leather"!! I couldn't cut it. My chips were dark brown as if overcooked but soggy at the same time.

I used this pub a lot many years ago so decided to make a return visit for a Sunday lunch as it was a lovely sunny day. The food took an hour & a half to arrive, I was very disappointed to see the poor choice of veg being carrots & peas. I had chosen roast beef so requested some horseradish sauce, much to my disgust I was given tarter sauce instead. I definitely won’t be going again.

A lovely sunny day, wonderful setting, spoilt by a pitiful food experience and poor service. We waited an hour for our baguettes for them to turn up uncooked, dry disgusting beef, sweaty cheese, pitiful salad, barely cooked chips. Also, the obnoxious guy behind the bar should be removed from a customer facing role! I suggest that the Plough change their staff uniform to say "probably the most lack lustre pubs in the world" and stop giving us all false hope!

My husband I, along with my two teen daughters stopped off for a lovely hot day of cool drinks. Managed to get a table with seats under the canopy outside. We were sat having a lovely conversation and drink, suddenly there were about 6 young children running around our chairs screaming whilst their parents sat further up the garden. It’s not the fault of the pub at all but people want to sit and have a relaxing drink and chat without having screaming hyperactive children running around your chair. We had some desserts, two ice cream sundaes and a berry meringue, all were delicious and we will visit again but not if there are screaming young children around.

We arranged a wake here for my father's funeral. It exceeded our expectations. Wonderful service and the food was delicious. Sympathetic and kind staff who were very accommodating. Thank you so much.
