The Plough Inn in Rushcliffe

I hired The Plough's function room for my partners 40th birthday party and I couldn't be happier with the event. All of the organisation was so straightforward and communicated so well - all of my questions were answered quickly and nothing was too much trouble. We opted for a bbq which was accomodated, even though the weather wasn't great. The food was absolutely delicious and we has plenty for everyone. The staff were so friendly and helpful all evening and the function room is beautiful. Can't recommend The Plough enough for a private function.

Absolutely lovely pub, with high-end food (which is delicious!). Takes pub grub up a level 👏🏼😍 We love coming here, as there’s really something for everyone in the family, including vegan and veggie family members.

We met as a group of 6 for Sunday lunch and couldn’t recommend to anyone looking for great surroundings, attentive service and home cooked delicious food. The place was busy but is so spacious and well staffed that this had no impact on the hard working staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. We’ve been back on a number of occasions and have never experienced anything other than high quality food and service. Thoroughly recommend!

Amazing Sunday lunch, catered for all our needs from roast beef , vegetarian and vegan . Everything fresh & perfectly cooked. Service spot on. Will definitely be back !

Best plub lunch in ages, so much choice and quality was a very high standard, it is a little gem. cannot praise the staff and food enough. There was so much we will have to come back to try the other dishes despite living 2 hours away, I just wish we had a local like this on our doorstep

Great place on the river top quality food which we all enjoyed and after were able to sit out on the river bank and enjoy our drinks.

Stopped here after a walk for lunch. A nice looking pub with great boat watching by the river outside. Not the happiest looking staff, but I can’t fault the service we got. My husband’s fish and chips was a very good size and was well cooked. My lamb kofta dish (as a main) was a bit sparse on its portion of couscous and fries, so was not as filling as my husband’s lunch. All very tasty though. Good though to see gluten free options.

6 friends had drinks, dinner and dessert. The staff were attentive, polite and funny. All 6 were very pleased with our meals. I had, possibly, the best Caesar Salad I have ever tasted. You could tell it was all freshly cooked, plenty of moist, succulent chicken, crispy bacon and croutons and good anchovies. The bowl was not filled with lettuce either, as I have frequently experienced in the past. Desserts were also delicious. I had the Citrus and Ginger biscuit cheesecake, which was yummy. Lovely spot by the river and on a nice summer’s evening you couldn’t ask for anything better. Thoroughly recommend this place.

A really lovely pub with a good location next to the river which the beer garden really makes the most of. Shame they had run out of 0.0 larger after just the one I had but I guess that was bad timing, I assume that is not the norm.

Visited the plough this Saturday evening with friends. The whole experience was first class from the very efficient and friendly staff to the most amazing food. In my opinion the plough offers excellent value for money and I would recommend this place to anyone. Will most definitely be back. Thank you The plough look forward to seeing you soon.

Another lovely experience at the Plough. A sunny bank holiday Monday so a very busy day - but still a very pleasant, personal experience. The food was excellent as usual- good ingredients, an interesting menu, very tasty and perfectly cooked. Service was 'spot on' too - all staff clearly understand how to look after customers really well without being too intrusive. Thank you to all.

We met 2 long distance friends here for a long overdue lunch as The Plough is approx. half way between our respective houses. Way back in the 1960's and long before my wife and I had ever met, we were both regular visitors to The Plough and I am so very pleased to say how pleased we all were to have decided to eat here yesterday! The staff were very welcoming and they all knew how not to bother us and yet they were there almost instantly when we wanted to order our food or ask any questions. This is a skill which oh so many waiting staff never appear to be able to learn however those at The Plough were right out of the top draw. Our food was excellent, the beer was perfect in fact our entire visit was all that we could have possibly expected and we have all decided we will be returning again in the not too distant future.

Top notch FRESHLY prepared and cooked food, absolutely delicious, great service and lovely atmosphere, we will definitely be back! Thanks for a super evening.

My wife and I live in the village and have started eating at the Plough occassionaly since it has been taken over. Last night we took our friend who was staying with us for a few days and once again the meal was excellent. We had the rump steak with a stiton sauce, and a brownie to follow. The menu is not extensive, but is changed on a fairly regular basis, so you can keep going back to find something different.

Beautiful spot, great service and the food was divine. Even the lager glasses were pre chilled!! I had the halloumi mushroom burger which was way better than i couldve imagined, the best fries i've had in a while and the coleslaw is to die for too, So glad we chose to come here this evening, really looking forward to coming back!!!

Meeting friends here for lunch yesterday, we all chose from the menu, all had fish for main course I chose a starter of chicken liver pate with ciabatta toasts. The pate was delicious, the toasts very small very hard to eat - over coooked. My friends mostly had fish cakes which came with 3 on a plate, they were delighted, My main was scampi, chips and salad - now let me tell you what it was like, i was so disappointed. I could not believe my eyes - my meal compared to others was very small - i had 5 very small pieces of scampi a tin with a few chips in, a small glass dish with very extremely bits of leaves and a tomato - i was horrified, i would have sent it back but my friends were enjoying there meal i did not want to spoil it for them by complaining. The scampi would have been more/the chips in the tin was off putting, the tartare sauce totally horrible not sure what bits were in it but definitely not necessary, the salad a joke. Surely the chef could do better either with normal quantity and presentation both lacking. If they want to see how to present this to guests go to pillings lock in loughborough - the best scampi around

We were squeezed in as a last minute party of 10 the weekend of reopening after the awful floods. A beautiful cosy pub, the service was superb, everyone worked so hard and the food was top notch. Quoted at the table: “best pâté I’ve ever tasted”!

We had a big family Sunday lunch pre-Christmas get together and preordered our food, everything was perfectly cooked and on time, which considering there was 16 of us was no mean feat! The food and service was exceptional, well done Team Plough!

Brought my family for a late Sunday dinner and the food was just delicious! My family chose to have a roast and I went with the Salmon, everyone loved their food and the service was fab as always. The pub have put a lot of thought into their lovely Christmas decorations as well and the whole place felt very cosy! Since being taken over, we’ve visited this place more than anywhere else!

Really enjoyed our time here again. It was a busy dau at the Plough with some Christmas lunchtime parties. Even though it was busy there was excellent personal service. Felt welcomed and relaxed. Food was perfect. Thank you. Looking forward to our next visit. x

Been to the plough several times before over the last 6 months or but unfortunately the very cold temperature of the place really let it down yes it was a cold night outside but inside the pub was no better which really spoilt the whole evening. The food was good staff where excellent but its know good if you and your guests feel uncomfortable with the cold dinning area. My felling is you have to have the whole package now days they all matter

The menu is very reasonable and they even offer a bit more than a starter menu for a cheap smaller meal at lunch. Myself and my party all ordered off that menu and the food was lovely - the service was also very friendly!

The food was amazing and service was very friendly in this local dog friendly pub. Myself and my partner both had the beef Wellington and it was one of the best I’ve ever had - this place has changed a lot since the recent takeover and it’s definitely worth a visit.

I booked for 31 family and friends to celebrate my husbands 40th Birthday and honestly I can’t recommend this place highly enough. We had exclusive use of the beautiful back room and nothing was too much trouble for the manager Luke or his wonderful staff. They were friendly and super efficient and we all felt thoroughly spoilt. The food was absolutely delicious so all praise to the chef too. Out of 31 people with very different tastes not a single complaint to be heard!! I think we will make this lovely place a treat night frequent venue. Thank you so very much for making my husbands special birthday so great.

Wednesday night is steak night.....two fabulous rumps and a bottle of wine for £40....both were excellent......log fire and great service........how things have changed ......very impressed....

Visited yesterday.First meal out since restrictions have been relaxed. We had the Sunday lunch which was disgusting. Food stone cold and all absolutely tastelees. Vegetables tasted as though they had been cooking for days and the Yorkshire pudding tasted a rancid fat. My friends mixed grill was very poor and the steak tasted like a bit of leather.The staff were very good about the matter and gave us complimentary desert and how much reduced bill on the other food. The group is called probably the best pub in the world. I think this should be the worst not the best.

Used to visit when my kiddies were little. Driving nearby today & decided to stop for a late lunch. We were very well received and shown immediately to an inside table - the sun was shining but the manager assured us it was going to rain shortly (& it did)Everyone very Covid aware. we visited on a quiet tuesday night, we were greeted at the door, with a walm welcome and plenty of procedures in place for covid-19, track and trace, sanitiser and temperature checks, we had a table in the restaurant, a beautiful setting, gary was our server, he was lovely and nothing was too much trouble for him! i had the rancho grande and my boyfriend had the roast lamb, we had all the sides (chips, veg, salad and new potatoes), the veg looked amazing and everything was fresh and hot! our food was bought to us by jordan who was also so lovely! we were too full for dessert but 100% will be going back to try some of the desserts on the menu! despite everything going on at the moment the staff were still positive and happy, keep doing what you’re doing and see you soon x

A large country pub with a lovely ambience. Friendly staff and good pub grub. In these terrible times all pubs are struggling and this night all be it mid week was half empty. Service was quick and efficient. Good choices on the menu and beers.

I usually judge places by the numbers already enjoying their visit, and the Plough is certainly very popular' Unfortunately, the food was a let down. On our first visit my wife enjoyed her meal, but mine was very disappointing, Steak and gammon were both tough, and sausage lacked flavour and was also somewhat tough. Giving the place a second chance, we both had fish and chips. Very nice, except that there was so little fish! It looked as if they had searched the country for the smallest portions. The surroundings on a warm summer's day are unbeatable. A pity the food comes nowhere near to unbeatable

My husband and I bought 2 x drinks it cost £14.80...Its,fay light robbery never again...We could sit out in the garden next to the canal we were told where we were aloud to sit...Outside the pub doors listening to everyone else conversations!If your hoping for a nice fairly reasonable meal DONT bother owing here

Just had a lovely 3 course lunch - my steak was a bit well done but it was immediately changed no questions asked ...starters creamy garlic mushrooms were delicious and the puddings equally as good then to get the discount at the end of it was a bonus... highly recommend

We arrived early and sat outside by the lovely canal in hope for a relaxing drink al fresco, to be told the waiting time for drinks was twenty minutes. We ventured inside on this 30 degree August day (7:30pm) and were sat opposite the bar in a boiling hot corner. You won’t find air con or any kind of fan in this place. With the heat bouncing off the Perspex screen to our side due to social distancing, we slowly melted as the meal went on (of course not the staff’s fault) just saying don’t come here during a heat wave when they don’t serve food outside! The loaded potato skins were exactly what you want them to be, cheesy, indulgent and carby. Add slices of red onion from your side salad on top and you have created a delicacy, trust me. The halloumi fries were what you expect of halloumi, salty, squeaky sticks of goodness. The mains were interesting... I ordered the chicken roulade wrapped in Palma ham with a Stilton gravy. I expected the chicken to be stuffed and was disappointed when the meat was bone dry, even when covered in sauce which didn’t bear the slightest resemblance to Stilton or any kind of cheese and was basically gravy granules mixed with a dash of wine. The new potatoes were delicious but make sure to ask for extra mini packets of Lurpak and cover in salt!!! The chips were a soggy disaster and WHO GETS CHIPS WRONG? I’m sorry but if you’re going for pub grub you need a decent chip, no wonder they are offering free top ups of chips because everyone’s plates are going back with a pile of them remaining. The obliterated boiled vege side that comes with all mains is cold, slimey and all nutrients have long been depleted so you may as well spare yourself of the chewing and farts. On to my partners main, he decided to design his own surf and turf, with a trio of crab cakes, battered cod and a 4oz rump steak. The steak was average and clearly not grass fed, would have been nicer if covered in peppercorn sauce. Crab cakes did their job. The fish on the other hand was a big let down, bland, unseasoned and quite revolting. Having no edible chips meant that we were relying on the main components of our meal being pleasant, but they were rubbish, just plain rubbish. The starters were fail safe but they didn’t really require any culinary expertise or cooking at all. If you’re hungry when getting a pint then I’d recommend a starter but don’t be tempted to go for a main. Onto the desert, the worst course of all. We ordered an ICE CREAM sundae, and it didn’t have any ice cream in at all. Not joking, no ice cream, at all. It was 30 degrees on this day, so maybe it had melted by the time it got to us, but our glass cup was just cream, cream and a few bits of SOGGY WAFFLE. Highlights of the meal were the hobgoblin shandy, halloumi and potato skins. Also I do not advise sitting in the bar area as the staff members enjoy overlooking your every move, and I mean, every move. We asked if we could move but that’s a whole other story. Just don’t go here unless you want to sit outside for a drink and don’t mind waiting. The view makes a good Instagram photo though.

Wow! What a fantastic visit. Great set up for Covid-19, The food was served really quickly and was so tasty. The staff were really friendly and efficient. In particular our server, Sophie did a brilliant job of looking after us - thank you very. We will definitely be returning.

Had a family booking for 5. We all had a lovely 3 course meal no issues, everything tastes great and I love the trio idea so you can try a few of the favourite items on the menu. Went outside for a drink after to enjoy the scenery. Will be even better when like many other places you can eat outside again.

We booked a table for two . Friendly greeting and temperature taken. After sanitizing our hands we were led to our table. Screens are provided between tables so safety is paramount. Good menu selection at reasonable prices. The food was good as was the service. Would highly recommend.

I visited intending to have a pint and a late lunch. After registering I sat at a table by the river (lovely location) and my drink order was taken. I was subsequently asked to change my order as that beer had run out and that was when I discovered that I would have to go inside if I wanted to eat. I had happily eaten outside there a couple of weeks before and enjoyed the meal, so it was disappointing not to be able to do so again.

My partner and I visited with friends to celebrate a pregnancy and a birthday. Both parties traveled 45 minutes to the restaurant following recommendations.Our table was booked for 6:30 and we were advised we would only have an hour and a half slot which is understandable.At 7:30ish; our mains arrived, which would have been fine, however we had not yet received our starters.When we raised this, our waitress said that there had been some confusion and they were not our mains; but another tables. This was a lie.At 7:50 our starters arrived. Followed by our mains a little after 8pm, much to the annoyance of our pregnant friend.Many other tables arrived, ate and left before our mains arrived.Our starters were taken of the bill, however we were so disappointed with the visit and embarrassed we had suggested and recommend the plough.We ordered drinks throughout the night which never arrived and I personally was disappointed in the presentation of the trio meal I had. Whilst the manager was super apologetic, I still don’t understand how the service was so poor with what seemed to be ample staff and a pub that wasn’t overly busy.The location is beautiful and the outside seating is lovely. An nice place to stop for a drink with friends... providing your happy to wait an hour for it.

Bad service , food took ages to come a table actually sat down ate there dinner and left before we even got our starters , had to keep asking for drinks because they never came , also our mains got brought out before we even had our starters , then wile one of our friends was finishing her dinner the waitress took our plates away like we were being rushed out after waiting over a hour for our starters .... it’s lovely outside but I was really disappointed by the service was appalling, and coming from the trade background the food could have been better as well as the presentation

Our first time visit. Upon entering we felt welcome and what beautiful decor inside! We ordered our drinks and food no problem- with the waiting stuff regularly checking if we were okay. Food was brilliant price and cooked lovely. Beautiful garden will be back again

Awesome visit to the Plough at Normanton on Soar today - 12th July.I’m a client of old and it was wonderful to be able to return after 16 weeks of lock down.As normal the Plough has done a superb job of providing a safe environment inline with the government guidelines and albeit they have a slightly reduced menu at the moment the choice is still vast and as a vegetarian I had no problem find good healthy choices.Gary, Ron and the whole team were wonderful hosts as always and we will be back soon.Thanks and see you soon Clare Xxx

Meal as always very good I had prawn cocktail and roast beef the only thing I couldn't eat was the veg not cooked enough husband had garlic mushrooms and mini mixed grill said it was lovely felt very safe table service staff friendly lovely visit

We visited The Plough this evening and we were so impressed with the precautions in place. The staff were all friendly, happy and approachable, especially Stephanie and Jordan, who made our evening very relaxed and enjoyable. The food was also fantastic! We will definitely be back soon!

Delightful setting & very welcoming. The staff are very polite & very efficient, 10 out of 10. Huge menu, difficult to decide. The food is what i like to class as first class pub food but that is exactly what it is, i think a lot of it is pre-prepared & have to say the bowl of chips was poor. That is not to say i wouldn't return though, starters & desserts delicious & over all excellent value.

This just cropped up on my groupon account when I was looking for a special deal for my partner's birthday weekend. Tweaking it so groupon thought I was new, I managed the pair of two-course meals for £20 all in, which was superlative value. The crab fish cakes are tiny wee but make a substantial enough starter for what's to come, while my partner's creamy mushrooms, on garlic bruschetta with salad, was almost a main. She loved the roast lamb, as it was a Sunday lunch, although I wasn't quite so keen on the Barnsley lamb chop – for what was supposed to be medium it still seemed very red. But while I'd not choose that dish again I'd leap at the chance to return – bottomless (within reason) chips or potatoes, and veg or salad, mean nobody leaves hungry – and heck the desserts looked classy as well. If you currently google the menu you get something that offers more dishes than we were able to pick from, but still it has a much more substantial variety than many similar countryside venues. The 'nut roast' equivalent, made with wild rice, honeyed vegetables and port could almost make a veggie out of me for an afternoon – this place has many such temptations, and I'd certainly recommend it. Good ambience, more than decent staff – this is a new favourite.

Went here a few months ago. The place has potential, in a lovely small village with a garden leading to the river. Sadly the food is incredibly average, poorly presented and extremely forgettable. In a world were customer experience is everything it feels like The Plough has been left behind. The place also looks rather tired and in need of a revamp. Don’t plan on going again, ever!
