Easily the best pub in Mansfield, staff are very friendly, place was spotless and the prices are great.

Had the Tuesday night special sizzling plate. Great value for money and very tasty

I didn't try the food, as I only popped in for a quick pint. I'm not much of a pub drinker, but this seemed like a nice boozer. Well laid out and the lady who served me was very pleasant. Just what you'd expect from any good barmaid, (if that's not an outdated, sexist term these days 😕). When I visited, the place was very quiet. Admittedly, it was like, 3pm on a Wednesday afternoon, hardly peak hours, but even so, it felt like the place had a nice 'vibe' overall. This is a nice pub and I intend to visit again. Hopefully, there will be more women in there next time! 🤭 Recommended. 👍

Food is nice but very over priced ,had a ice-cream sundae which was £7 ISH and was tiny

Great food, great service, and a good busy atmosphere.

Sunday lunch was quick, hot and a good price, would come back again. Ruby answered any questions we had and was very attentive.

Went to Sir John Cockle again today and the food and service was excellent! Many thanks to the management Luke and Mell and staff. We will no doubt be back again very soon

Dinner with friends, the menu was fabulous, couldn't decide what to have, went for the Chippy tea tray, it was amazing, couldn't eat it all myself but my husband helped me out, great choice of drinks, and good service, food was hot and fresh and all 6 meals arrived at the same time.

Hour wait for food. When it finally arrived it was over cooked. Tried to get a replacement and was gas lighted by the chef. When the replacement arrived 15 minutes later it was different from what previously arrived (chunky chips instead of fries, grisly rump steak instead of sirloin and tiny peppercorn sauce instead of the big one that arrived first. All was done out of spite because I dared to ask for a replacement. Overall not the best experience doubt we would have been treated like this if we were locals! People of colour beware. Overall atmosphere is poor.

Had a lovely chicken roast dinner here today, beautiful cooked and excellent service, you won’t be disappointed. I hope you are hungry because the portion sizes are very generous.

Maybe we came at a bad time. Place was empty at 6 pm. The fish was cooked from frozen and was not great. My son had the big breakfast and sausages looked a bit cheap. I had huntsman chicken which was ok but not great. Chairs were wooden and uncomfortable. Suggest they invest in cushions at least, maybe some soft music. Sorry.

Ordered a takeaway for delivery in the evening. Incredibly switched on, for price and the delicious food that was delivered ahead of their expected delivery time. My wife thought it was the best Indian food she’d had since visiting India many years ago. I agreed, and we eat Indian food often in the UK and Spain.

Arranged a party for my mums 50th. The staff were so amazing and helpful, they went above and beyond when helping arrange and set up. Amazing prices as well!

Last weekend my old school friends and I enjoyed a reunion at 281. The owners and staff were helpful, friendly and could not have done more to make our event a success. Some stayed overnight in the refurbished bedrooms and said they had comfortable, clean rooms and also enjoyed a good breakfast! I have booked another reunion of work ex-work friends for April next year and have no doubts that having this also at 281 will be as good! Thank you 281 😊

Ordered a Donner kebab, not had one in ages. The kebab meat is nice but they were stingy with the salad, hardly any salad at all and that's the best bit for me, so a disappointing 3 star. Probably won't go back, just went to this one as was visiting my mum.
