Went here for some lunch, not been to Mansfield before walked past Lucy’s and it looked nice so wondered in. Felt a bit empty and dreary but went to sit down the only 4 seater table had a reserved sign on it and the rest were 2 seaters (there was 3 of us). Turned around and the waitress said we can sit there regardless of the reserved sign. Firstly noticed the tables were VERY sticky and another couple in the cafe commented on this as in unappealing. No menus on the table all the food was on some chalk boards on the wall, not a lot of food options at all. As soon as we sat down the waitress awkwardly asked to take our order even though we hadn’t even looked at menus yet. We quickly ordered, was disappointed to find out they offer no alternative milk so my friend with a dairy allergy couldn’t have any hot drinks. Ordered a jacket potato with chilli and cheese, there was barely any cheese on it so I asked for some more politely to which I got told by the waitress the boss has said I need to pay 85p extra for cheese and that they did put some on but it’s just melted so you can’t see it. I challenged her as there was barely any cheese on it to start with, but she didn’t say anything and the whole conversation was very uncomfortable so I just said never mind. After this the waitress went straight into the back clearly to tell the boss what I said and then the boss the waitress and another guy all came and stood behind the bar and basically was side eyeing me throughout the rest of my meal. The whole experience was very uncomfortable and to top it off there were bits floating in my coffee (not very clear pic attached) tried to stir them to get them to dissolve but more jest kept appearing so didn’t finish it. As I was paying I just felt like I was being stared at and judged all for asking for a bit more cheese. Under no circumstances will me or my friends return here again.

It’s been years since I last went to Lucy’s and it always used to be amazing. However. I went last week and it seems so have lost its sparkle. There was no menus on the table, all on a black board. Wasn’t a large selection. The coffee was very weak and tasted burnt. Jacket potato was lovely however came with a tiny amount of side salad which was a shame. Service was quick, felt a little rushed to order though. Shame as this used to be a gem! Possibly under new ownership?

Not been here in years ! So poss new owners ?? Jacket potatoes are still very good . Felt a bit rushed to order, yet on 3 other tables filled . It’s a bit soulless , needs a bit of warmth adding to the place . Very basic . Shame really . Coffee was weak and seemed cheap ! Sorry

We were out and about in Mansfield centre with family who suggested that we have coffee at Lucy’s. It is their regular chosen café. I had a latte, which was very nice. My husband had espresso. The quality of coffee used was good and strong. The staff were very nice. Prices were at a fair level. It was warm and cosy.

Reserved a table for mums birthday on a Saturday, I am glad I did as there were only a few tables free for lunch when we arrived, a high chair was already place at the table for us as I had informed them we were coming with my 21 month old, again I was glad I had told them this upon reserving as there were no high chairs left when we arrived. A very courteous young man came to take our order my mum wanted a panini off the menu with no peppers and the young man went and checked with the kitchen staff if this would be ok before confirming our order, we ordered some sweet potato fries with BBQ dip and a kids lunch box, we waited 15 minutes for the food to arrive which was really good for how busy they were, once the food arrived I noticed that they had only brought my daughter a sandwich so I asked where the rest of her lunch box was and they brought it out, it contained yogurt, Pom bear crisps, a chocolate bar, fruit shoot juice and a gift of bubbles, I got the yogurt out and noticed it was out of date so I told the staff and they changed it for a yogurt with a better date on it. Our panini’s were absolutely beautiful, it would of been nice if the side salad came with the dressing in a small pot so you could choose to add it yourself as I didn’t like the dressing so I couldn’t eat the side salad, the sweet potato fries were amazing they were hot which I was impressed with as fries in cafes tend to arrived just warm, the BBQ sauce was very tasty. My only downside of our visit was the yogurt being out of date and also the toilets as there was no baby change available other than that I would recommend.

With the recent closure of The Shiny Spoon in Mansfield, we had found ourselves displaced for a regular Friday Afternoon feed, so have now embarked on a tour of different establishments in Mansfield to find a new favourite. We found the staff attentive, polite and pleasant on our visit and the food was lovely and well presented as well. It wasn't overly busy when we visited, so it was all prepared and sorted pretty quickly for us. The portions were perhaps a tad small compared to other places we have visited but with the service provided when we visited, it is worthy of the full 5 marks.

New to "Lucy's" but popped in for breakfast. Located in a traditional part of Mansfield, we were met with a nice clean place. The food was really yummy, and "clean"! Having worked in breakfast places many years ago! I can see the tell tale signs of not changing oil or cleaning pans regularly. Lucy's definitely wasn't like that! We recommended it to our Mother and Father in-law within 5 minutes of leaving.

After strolling round Mansfield attempting to find somewhere to eat, we decided on a quaint looking out of the way cafe, called Lucy’s after the friendly greeting we took a seat, a lovely elderly gentleman (Richard) came and took our order, and I can honestly recommend the soup of the day with the cheese and ham toastie, as the tomato and pepper soup was fantastic!!! Also my partners Bacon Brie and cranberry panini was to die for, or so I’m told!

We went here for lunch on Valentine’s Day 2018 with our 6 week old daughter, we were able to easily move around with the pram, my fiancé ordered chicken and bacon panini with mayonnaise which came with a garnished salad coleslaw and crisps and I ordered a ham a tomato wrap which again came with the garnished salad coleslaw and crisps, both of our lunches were delicious, my only criticism was not enough cucumber (but that’s because I love loads of cucumber) we ordered side dishes of baked Camembert and I had homemade wedges which came with a variety of dips I chose the mayonnaise, the wedges were amazingly cooked unlike most places I have eaten where the wedges are undercooked in the middle, these were so soft in the middle and crispy on the outside, the service we received was amazing, we will definitely be going again

This place in an ideal place for a coffee and a snack. The surroundings are spacious and have a bit of a retro feel. Been here before so decided to revisit . But today we went in for breakfast. As I am dieting , I asked could I have poached eggs on the full breakfast instead of fried. I was told a straight - No . I couldn't see the problem as they have poached egg on the menu and supposedly cater for gluten free, etc. So I ordered the poached eggs on toast -with no butter . Food arrived and both slices were covered in butter. I told the young man I had requested no butter. His answer "oh sorry and walked off." leaving me to just eat two poached eggs. He had no intention of getting two more slices of dry toast. The young dark haired waitress who served us was miserable , never smiled and can only conclude she had swallowed a wasp. Not good customer service. Most cafes are obliging to all food requirements. Its not like I asked for an Ostrich egg instead ! Also inside the small milk jug was dried on residue of food. Wont be going there again

What's going on Lucy's!? I have always loved your cafe and have been a regular customer since you opened, but service has deteriorated. I always order the same thing, so can easily compare changes. I was always impressed with the generous serving of cheese with jacket potatoes at Lucy's, but the portion size was noticeably lacking on my last two visits. So much in fact that I asked for extra cheese on my last visit, but was served with even less than the previous visit! When I politely reminded the waiter I'd ordered extra cheese, he politely apologised and said that they were too busy to grate more. That was not the answer I wanted and it doesn't take that long to grate some cheese for a paying customer!

My husband and I went to Lucy's for lunch today and were disappointed. It wasn't that we had a bad meal as such. If this had been our first visit, we would merely have thought the place unremarkable. Having been going there regularly for a number of years, however, we were vexed to note that standards have slipped. We both ordered different paninis and thought the filling was meagre. My brie did not cover the bread base and the bacon consisted of a few snippets scattered on the top. My husband's tuna crunch was also spread thinly on one of those thin anaemic white panini rolls. The side salad still showed a bit more imagination than some places offer, but the homemade coleslaw was not as nice as it used to be and the specials board was uninspiring. To be fair, the cakes looked decent, although we did not have any. We both felt that the place had failed to deliver to its previously consistent high standard and left discussing that this would probably be our last visit.

Mansfield must be one of the most neglected, least visited larger towns of Britain - but it preserves considerable character despite sixties concrete disasters. stopping by on a marathon train journey Inverness-London, the acid test, would it have decent coffee ? apart from the regulation Costa... yes, one of the best ever, just off the old marketplace, almost under the superb viaduct, quite handy for the Robin Hood Line station - and a good atmosphere in a spacious old shop, really friendly staff/owners. I used this cafe frequently over the past 10 years and always found it to be superb. I went in early October and noticed changes but put it down to my expectations being that everything stays the same. On my last visit i ordered a meal that I have ordered many times before. On arrival of my meal I noticed that the portions were much less than previous meals I had at Lucy's, the taste was lacking and the bread poor quality. The mushroom bruschetta used to be amazing but no longer. My wifes , Naan bread and chilli was minuscule in comparison with previous meals served during Lucy's tenure. The costs have risen, the quality has fallen and this is two customers lost.

I've been to Lucy's before, a couple of years ago, and liked it so was chuffed to find an excuse for a lunch trip today. The menu is very lunchy - plenty of sandwiches etc - and I saw a specials board that had some enticing things on such as Thai fishcakes. I ordered a bacon, brie & cranberry panini and a Fentiman's Curiosity Cola (I love Fentiman's). My order was taken by a very friendly chap who seemed pleased to be there, and considering it was 1pm and prime lunchtime, I didn't have to wait very long - ten minutes tops. The panini was served on a plate with an ample side salad, a dollop of homemade coleslaw and a generous handful of crisps. The salad was more than a token gesture - thought had actually been put into it and there was all sorts, including celery chunks and radishes, which it's rare to find in side salads anywhere but which make it a worthy side dish! The panini itself was delicious.A fab and bustling spot for lunch - or breakfast, as that was what I had there last time I was there, a couple of years ago.

The husband and I went to Lucy's Saturday lunch time as we had heard good reviews. Thinking finally, somewhete in mansfield that we could visit rather than driving into nottingham for a good food experience. However, we were extremely disappointed! We ordered two banana milkshakes and two pannini's. The milkshakes were powdered and the powdered solution had settled in the bottom of the glass. Disgusting. We told our waiter and he replaced free of charge (as he should have done). We expected fresh, home-made milkshakes, not nesquick! We wouldn't have ordered if we knew the latter. Our 'pannini's' came....I say pannini's lightly as they were no such thing. They were the half baked baguettes you buy from the shop to finish off at home, slightly griddled to form the pannini effect on the anemic baguette. Also, the filling was pure mayo, flavours did not work at all. Rank. I expected much more in the quality of the ingredients and for them to know what a simple pannini is. The service was good and our waiter was helpful. We won't be re-visiting. We would much prefer further travel to Nottingham for something tasty and fresh. Better care and time needed over the food and drink. Nice try mansfield.

With the place nearly empty we waited a very long time after we had ordered there were more staff than customers and the staff was only interested talking between themselvesThere was little choice in food if you didn't want something without bread or potatoes and then when ordered a not a full meal we were charged for all the extras even though we didn't have them The meal was small and the cost was very high Will not be visiting this place again

I visit Lucy's regularly, with family and friends. Its definitely in my opinion the best place to eat in town. The staff are friendly and always smiling, unlike some other places I've visited. The food is amazing, you can tell it is all made fresh and they offer lots of different meals. The homemade cajun wedges are lovely, I like that you can buy products to take home like chutneys and jams, my sons favourite being the banana curd! The option to 'take home for tea' is brilliant, we regularly get lasagne to take home as a treat. I recommend Lucys to all my family and friends and we all love it!

Had a really lovely lunch with a couple of friends, the food is always fantastic, but the service is quite poor and a smile wouldn't go a miss!

6 of us went for lunch. They do free kids meals (saucage & beans etc) with an adult meal. And they do (paid for) kids meals in a box with sandwich, pomme bears, drink, colouring in book etc. I had a goats cheese salad off the special's board which was delicious. The others enjoyed their jacket potatoes. The coffee and cake were also great. It's good value with really friendly staff. They might slightly be victims of their own sucess having won the local newpapers' Cafe of the year award, as it was pretty crowded in there.

My favourite watering hole in Mansfield. I have been several times since it opened a few years ago. It is an oasis in a culinary desert. There is a homely atmosphere with a mixture of low, comfortable seating in the window and plain, pine furniture elsewhere. The service is always courteous and prompt and the food is well presented and appetising. A great place for a drink and a snack and it is right next door to Hops in a Bottle.

A friend and I visited lucys for the first time yesterday. It's the most fabulous cafe I've been in for a long time. Very clean, staff very helpful and friendly. Food served swiftly and all freshly prepared. The most gorgeous goat's cheese, salad with coleslaw. Super lunch boxes for kid's including a sandwich of their choice, crisps, drink, yoghurt and a biccie. Brilliant prices too. Would recommend to anyone and will definitely be going again.

I've been a couple of times now, only for breakfast so wouldn't be able to comment on the main menu. It has a nice un-corporate feel to it and it's always clean and tidy. The food is good but not especially outstanding. I went last week with my husband and he was disappointed that the sausages appeared to have been fried rather than grilled and they were quite average. The coffee is also served in small cups and arrived 5mins before our food so we'd drunk it already. On saying that I've also visited with my daughter who had beans on toast with cheese and loved it. I will go again and I can recommend the poached eggs. If you've not been to Mansfield before there's handy car parking nearby at The Swan pub but it can get busy. You can pay by car but there's s minimum spend of £10 so not ideal if you're dining alone.

popped into town to get the grandchildren new school shoes and decided to eat in town we visited lucys as we like the jacket pots as there is always a good choice of filling and is served with an excellent salad, we were then informed kids eat free with a choice of 3 meals which were good choice for children after getting the kids free we treated them to fudge cake and cream for only £1.50 looking at the menu choices you really are spoilt for choice for the town centre café/bistromany thanks

Called in for breakfast today but had to wait over 15 minutes for a toasted tea cake and bacon cob. When they arrived they both had far too much butter on but who puts butter on a bacon cob anyway? Would prefer if either had been asked about butter or provided with individual portions. On a positive note the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The place is starting to look a little drab now and could do with a make-over.Probably won't return.

I have dined at this cafe several times for lunch, the most recent yesterday. The food is always of really high quality, especially the salad items which are excellent. The staff are bright and cheerful and the service is first rate. A great place to spend your lunchtime.

My wife and I use Lucy's every Saturday morning for our one and only cooked breakfast of the week. We really look forward to our two small breakfasts, well cooked with fresh ingredients and served piping hot, along with our tea/ coffee choices. Robin really makes a great cappuccino which is hot enough to last through breakfast! The staff are all pleasant and helpful, but do respond well to a smile and courteousness from the customer. Many thanks Lucy, keep up the good work.

Several weeks ago I went with a friend for breakfast in Lucy's. It was the second time we had used the establishment for breakfast and whilst the standard of catering is adequate I do not regard it as anything special. The last time I went with my friend I had a very bad experience with the proprietor. It was in between the visits that I had been diagnosed as having a fairly severe intolerance to dairy products and eggs. Which was more than a little disappointing as I love cream in my coffee and a Full English for breakfast. I was also told that I had a mild intolerance to wheat which all in all makes life somewhat awkward when eating out and can certainly take away the pleasure. On the morning in question when I visited Lucy's My friend had a Full English and I asked for it without the egg and with gluten free bread. I noticed that they served Salmon and Scrambled eggs and although not being able to eat the eggs asked if I could have the salmon and pointed out that I was quite prepared to pay any extra cost. The waitress said that she would check with the proprietor. She returned saying that it was not possible as they only had a limited amount of salmon and that it was reserved those who wanted the scrambled egg with the breakfast. The waitress delivered the breakfasts to the table, my friend was reasonably satisfied with his but I noticed that the toast accompanying mine, covered in butter, which I didn't ask for, did not look like gluten free. I asked the waitress and she replied "No I'm afraid we have run out" I was shocked, I'm not so badly intolerant to wheat as mentioned but took the decision to cut down drastically as I no longer feel comfortable eating bread and cakes. and I am aware that there is a certain amount of gluten in sausage. I should also mention that owing to my diet I am now enjoying excellent health.I asked the waitress why she had served ordinary bread when I had specifically requested gluten- free, pointing out that if I was in fact Coeliac that giving me this bread would have been a very irresponsible thing to do and quite dangerous. The proprietor came marching over to our table in a very confrontational manner demanding to know what my problem was and I told her that I had specifically requested Gluten-Free and was given ordinary bread in the knowledge that it was was gluten-free. She replied sharply that the sausage was not glute-free and so clearly from her point of view it didn't matter.I took the opportunity to mention the salmon that I would have particularly liked with my breakfast and that for me it would have been a suitable nutritional alternative to egg. She snapped the same reasons given to the waitress. The salmon was limited in amount and was only for those who wished to have the scrambled egg. I'm sure that somewhere in the European law on Discrimination I could make a case against the establishment for discriminating against someone with a fairly significant intolerance to a range of foods but seriously I felt her ruling was ill founded, devoid of logic and totally unnecessary. From a business perspective she was lacking acumen as I had told the waitress I was prepared to pay extra for the salmon, it was only a matter of agreeing how much. Life is full of missed opportunities particularly by failed business people. I got up and left in disgust without intending to pay for something that I hadn't asked for and in any event the service on this occasion was really quite dreadful. Unfortunately my friend who followed soon after and who also didn't eat his breakfast paid for both meals in full I was furious. He is the sort of person, however, who prefers not to complain even when the service is way below par. What was even more surprising was that the proprietor told him. when settled the bill. that she was in fact a Coeliac herself and knew all about these things. If this is the case what on earth was she doing sending me whole wheat bread when I asked for gluten-free?

Called at Lucy's for lunch after asking for a recommendation from one of the local shop owners. They were not mistaken in their recommendation , we had one of the best lunches we have had in a long time, everything freshly cooked and served with a friendly smile. The menus was extensive and the specials board SPECIAL, we would defy anyone not to enjoy anything on this menu. Next time we have to go to Mansfield , it will be Lucy's for lunch.h

Staff are too young and inexperienced and couldn't care less about the paying customer! Neither can the owner!!!This is the second time I've been into the cafe this month for a take away breakfast cob and the second time they have gotten my order wrong and tried to force me to pay for another one because the staff are incapable of taking orders correctly!I always ask for no sauce on my cob as i cant have brown sauce and i don't really like tomato sauce and each time it has arrived with brown sauce on.Then when I've gone in to try and get it changed they have told me there's nothing they can do unless i pay for another.THEN my colleague who ordered the cob went in to try and resolve the issue as they had spoken to him previously and all they could say is "well that arsey woman came in and complained" This is unacceptable for a business owner to say to a customer!!!I can safely say they have lost 5 regular customers. I wouldn't recommend this place if you have any allergies or special dietary requirements as the staff CANT and WONT deal with them in the correct manner! Absolutely unacceptable in this day and age!

As a Coeliac, eating out can be tricky, with limited choices - usually ending up with jacket potato & beans, but not so at Lucy's in Market Street, Mansfield. The very welcoming staff asked what I fancied to eat and made it no problem to provide it gluten free. I even had a lovely almond Torte for pudding ! My Latte even came with a gluten free biscuit on the sideMy wife's BLT (!not GF) was a meal in itself with salad, coleslaw and crisps followed my toffee apple pie.I would encourage anyone, coeliac or not, to take the time to visit Lucy's for a warm welcome & lovely food at a reasonable price

We went to Lucy's in Mansfield on Monday having read previous reviews. We each had one of the specials and a pud. Well cooked venison sausage for me and toasted goats cheese for my wife, both with appropriate trimmings. We were very happy with both the quantity and quality. We then had a sweet each, which were lush! The service was prompt and friendly and the bill was very reasonable. By the way they do now accept cards. All in all if we are in the area again we would not hesitate to visit again.

We have visited several times and were very impressed by the food there. It gets busy at peak times due to its popularity.Located within a couple of minutes walking distance from the train and bus stations, it is situated at the top of Market Street opposite the Stamp King. There is a large selection of drinks including light snacks, jacket potatoes and cakes, and all home made. The food is well presented, good size portions and tasty. They do take-aways, hampers and gift vouchers. There is a good selection of specials, and cakes are only £1.50 each. Children's boxes are available. The place is clean and contemporary. Service is efficient and friendly.

Portland College has a lovely coffee shop, there is a great selection of sandwiches, cakes, drinks, sausage rolls etc. Staff are very friendly and dogs are more than welcome with drinking water and dog treats available! The woodland walk is beautiful and if you’re lucky enough you may even get to see the therapy Donkeys that they have on site!

It was very quiet. Maybe 12 customers, but maybe that was due to it being a Sunday night.
