Great food. Service was excellent. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Will be returning for sure. Would 100% recommend!

This place years ago used to do one of the best Sunday dinners in Mansfield,& was "HOME MADE" QUALITY... this today was ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING!!!! For £13.50 YES £13.50 = "TWO= Brussels/TWO=slices of carrots/THREE LITTLE twigs of broccoli" THEN!!!!= "aunt Bessies" roast potatoes, & aunt Bessies Yorkshire pudding,& aunt Bessie ROCK HARD stuffing ball"!!!!! The beef was nice though on me & my grandads,but my brothers Turkey was really dry & not even warm. The two staff when I politely complained was lovely,& like I said to them= "it's not the chefs fault either,because he can only work with the crap quality rubbish hese given to try his best with what hese been given to cook/work with"!!!! Yes the manager did give us a free desert each because of my complaint, BUT... the FACT IS!!= marston's should be ABSOLUTELY ASHAMED of THINKING that they can send that absolute rubbish out to there pubs/restaurants..& CHARGE= "TOP EXTORTIONATE prices"!!! Its ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. I bet a roadside cafe wouldn't even serve that rubbish.

Very disappointed in our experience. The pub wasn't busy but we waited for ages for food. When it came it was overcooked ,dry and only just edible. The portions were small ...like a light bite at other eating establishments.

Service was very slow , desserts were ok sorry but not a good experience,the pub it's self is very nice but needs better staff,blonde girl only one that seemed to be doing anything

Waited ages for drinks waited ages for food my wife's came first mine came 15 minutes later side orders came with my wife's so they were cold when I received my food last couple of times we have been we have come away disappointed with service and food was a regular not any more

Been coming to the Black Bull for 2 weeks now, and i must say the food is a 10 out of 10 for me. The Fish and chips is a must have on the menu followed by a side of beer battered onion rings. The staff are very welcoming, be coming in more often. There is something for everyone on menu.

Used to be a regular but the landlord is very unwelcoming. First time in months I have been in and I was accused of starting a fight I had no involvement with last night we were trying to prevent the fight whilst he was inside minding his own business! You really need to get your facts right before accusing someone of being the problem. I don't think you are cut out to be running a pub. Everyone avoid this place their food is microwaved anyway!

I went for lunch with my partner on Sunday, I had the gammon and he had the mixed grill and I must say the food was lovely and the service was excellent and we were served quite quickly by very friendly staff and nothing was too much trouble

Amazing food in the day and great atmosphere! Been on a Friday night when there is the quiz/sticky 13 and on a Saturday when there is a DJ too, both great nights. Highly recommend!

All had lovely meals, expertly cooked by Lauren. Portions huge, lovely atmosphere and only round the corner from my son's house! Recommend and will be coming again!

Went for dinner with family in laws - the food was lovely and hot and would recommend the lasagna, besides this the staff were very attentive and nothing was too much to ask for, will definitely go again

Kids wanted a roast dinner so tried this place on the off chance and what appeared to be the landlady was pleasant and friendly and the beer was good too. The problems lied with three things, the barmaid was possibly the most non customer friendly I've ever seen, no smile, no manners and seemed like she didn't want to be there. Men at the bar swearing loudly and making racist comments that shouldn't be said in the family side of the pub and found me having to explain to my 9 year old that he shouldn't repeat what he heard. The food was very poor, over cooked Yorkshire's and pig in blanket, the meat was sooo dry and meat stained, appearance was bad! I understand they use pre cooked foods and very little is freshly sourced in company run pubs but at their price point should be so much better. If you want a pub to off load in and shout and swear then this is ok however this is NOT a place to take kids and expect good service from barstaff and/or quality food.

I was pleasantly surprised by my recent visit to the Black Bull. I used to come regularly with my Mum but it got so awful (food and service) that we had to find somewhere else to go. Having heard there was new management, I gave it another go and was really happy to find it friendly, a good atmosphere, and good food too

Me and the wife and our son with autism popped in on the evening of Friday 20th August 2021, the seats were all full in the lounge as they had a live act on that night, so we sat in the family room, as we were shown to our table, I didnt spot the dog bowl at the side of it and trod on it, wetting all my feet, but still, we sat down and whilst I went to the bar as the wife had to whip home, my son played darts, when the wife returned we ordered our meals. The staff were very friendly and the food was very good. We only live up the road and moved in to the area whilst lockdown was on, so we will return and I promise not to walk in to the dog bowl then

Me mum and dad were planning to go to the coopers but because of how much shopping we couldn't get there in time so we went to the black bull I couldn't find any seats by the window because they were reserved so we went into the room of the pub they allowed me play darts on the dartboard while dad orders drinks I had coke twice and food was delicious me and dad had gammon pineapple egg peas and chips and mum had steak and it was delicious we will come again because its amazing there

Since the Black Bull reopened in April 2021 we have been frequent visitors. Ian, Clare and team are great. Nothing is too much trouble. Great value food and drinks. We now consider this our local pub despite living in Clipstone. Keep up the great work!

Love this pub. Had a lovely meal. Prawn cocktail followed by steak and chips. Couldnt fault it! Lovely place would recommend.

Had a fantastic meal at Black Bull. Food well cooked and looks inviting when on plate. Staff polite and very pleasent. Will definitely go again. Nice outside seating area , and a large conservatory . On reduced menu At moment, look forward to having more choice in deserts.

We would enjoy coming here on a Sunday and it was great but we went here last Sunday to find itnhad changed dramatically, the Sunday dinner was absolutely terrible! Cheap ingredients and poorly cooked food. You could tell the chicken was cooked from frozen and the flavour was horrible. Will not be visiting again.

Amazing food and staff! A group of us (18 in total) booked (all family bubbles was on separate tables but altogether/next to one another). Our food came out, hot and tasted great! The service was above and beyond and the staff couldn't have helped anymore than they did. Would definitely recommend here and we will definitely be back Thank you again!

Local pub for me and my friends, great little local, amazing pub food and generous portions, the landlord and land lady Sarah and Andy have turned this place around - if you want nice food at a reasonable price choose the Black Bull!

Visited on 16th January for a post-Christmas meal with a group of friends. Whilst the food was good I would not recommend as the service was appalling. Pre booked table, asked to be there for 6.30pm. Food served around 8pm. No explanations for delay beyond one of our party being casually advised we should have pre-ordered (would have been helpful to have been told this when booking!!) and no apologies. Serving of meals disjointed, with two people not even having been served when most had already finished meals. Only two other people in the pub who ordered food while we were there so there was hardly a backlog of orders to blame! Very disappointed.

Food was amazing especially for the price. Treated like special guests from the moment we arrived would recommend to anybody 🥴

Hi came as a large party with my in laws to celebrate a wedding. As there were a few of us we ate off the festive menu, most people had turkey but I had steak and was blown away. Starter and puddings also lovely. Waiters/waitresses/owner were so friendly and also gave the two bribes a free drink for their wedding. Amazing value for money too to top it off, well done, will be back

Regular at this lovely pub, first time trying food however. Decided on a regular chicken and chorizo burger and all I can say is WOW! Portion size brilliant, glad I didnt have a large portion as I'd have been stuffed! Chicken succulent and chorizo completed it with a great selection of garnish. Will definitely be having food again, I would recommend the same to anyone else! Great service from Reece also

What a God awful pile of bland food,chicken cremated..mash No seasoning, as all veg ,Yorkshire pudding dry ,gravy no flavour, oh dear .

We had a table booked for 5 but turned up with 10! Was still immediately seated. When they found out it was my wedding day me and my wife were offered a free drink of our choice and they also brought out a free desert for everyone.Food was brilliant but the service and friendliness of staff was absolutely second to none.They also have a great tap room with pool, darts and sports TV.Will definitely be back.Highly recommend.

For this experience on a Sunday; We arrived after 4pm, (they serve until 5pm) which unless you go to an all day carvery place is hard to find. The restaurant was quiet and we ordered food and drinks quickly and food arrived fairly quickly. The staff always seem nice and we sat in the conservatory area. The restaurant was a nice temperature and the food looked good. I had a roast dinner with a trio of meats, there was no apple sauce for the pork given or horseradish for the beef unless you specifically ask for it. Which you don’t always remember! The chicken was dry and not pleasant, could have done with a little more gravy but no one checked on us to see us until we were nearly finished. My dinner had 3 types of meats, 2 Yorkshire puddings (don’t think they are homemade), mash potato, 1 roasted parsnip, 1 roast potato, carrots, sprouts and broccoli I think. Gravy is served in a gravy boat. The food was luke warm and the gravy wasn’t hot so it was ok. I would really have liked 2-3 roast potatoes or new potatoes along with the mash as these vary in size, 1 roastie doesn’t quite cut it. But overall my meal was ok. My mum had a lamb shank that was standard meal for a pub, she would have liked more veg, but it was ok. She would have opted for the roast dinner next time and would have also preferred 2-3 roasties. Overall this place has a pleasant atmosphere and food is value for money, however they just need to up the roasties, clean the glass on the light bulb cases and dust the overhead light fixtures full of spider webs. And we will be back.

Been to the black bull tonight for a meal great value, brilliant service, lovely food. And our waitress charlotte was very attentive and helpful.

We visited here today and a new couple have taken over, they are friendly and welcoming and can’t do enough for you! The food was nicely presented and piping hot. We so glad it’s now got the new people it deserves running it. We will definitely go back.

Freshly prepared well cooked lunch, spot-on timing between courses, excellent polite attentive service, and well kept tasty beer.................if anybody has frequented the black bull in the previous 8 of the last 9 months, then they will know its been a bit of a bumpy ride with a few ups and downs, the new management have certainly steadied the ship, looking after the beer better, and the food is well cooked and fresh, the staff more attentive, looking up on every count, we will be back again, and I would urge anybody else to give it another go, you will not be disappointed 10/10 from us.

Came here on Sunday for Father’s Day, was a lovely atmosphere, the meal was lovely and staff was friendly and very helpful will definitely be coming back again

I went in for a drink with my sister and her partner, her partner is a 50 year old man and he ordered an alcoholic drink, he then turned to me and my sister (aged 33 and 31), before we had even ordered a drink he said have you got some ID ladies? My sister didn’t even want an alcoholic drink!!! I didn’t have my ID with me, I explained I come in all the time as he is a new manager, he told he he’s never seen me, I told him the lady who is full time (Sue) normally serves me and that I’d even been in earlier, he said Sue wasn’t on earlier - that’s not what I said I said she normally serves me - he basically called me a liar twice! Absolutely disgraceful especially when a group of lads who looked very young, questionable as to whether they were 18 or not, were NOT asked for ID. Just makes me feel like this manager is extremely sexist and rude, he has been rude to female members of staff who have had to leave because of this. Disgraceful way to run a business. Of course I expect when you look young to have to provide ID and that it is anyone who works behind a bar’s responsibility to ask for it, but this manager Andy was unforgivably rude, there was no need to ask for ID from two middle aged women one of whom didn’t even want an alcoholic drink

everything tasted like it had been warmed through in the microwave and not freshly cooked ,I honestly think dog food would of tasted better!

Had a beautiful Sunday lunch. Roast chicken was delicious freshly cooked vegetables and mashed potatoes. Not the frozen you get at most pubs now days. Couldn’t fault it. Waitress was helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Definitely be back. Thank you x

I've held back from reviewing the black bull but due to recent events I feel I need to air my grievences.

Food was definitely disappointing. The pie pastry was rock hard - too much microwaving! There were 5 of us and the meals did not come out together. Service was poor - queues at the bar and only 1 person serving, and he seemed very inexperienced albeit pleasant. Will we ge back? Not anytime soon!!! Such a shame - it used to be a great place to eat.

Went for a birthday meal and we all ordered after taking our seats. Not much to say other than disappointed and average. The description on the menus did not match what came on 3 out of 4 meals! Nothing major but no crispy onions on 2 plates and no yoghurt and mint on 1 other- a small serving of mint sauce in its place. The presentation and portions are disappointing and the standards have slipped considerably since our last visit, we won’t be going back.

Visited for my husbands biryhday, large table to cater for including children, however all went smoothly. Chef was very helpful in accommodating us, pre ordered to make it easier and chef was very friendly. We had also only give few days notice prior to booking for large number of people! Food was delish, bar service and food service was excellent.

We have visited the Black Bull for several years and have never been disappointed. My husband and I live in Scotland and go to see my father who lives in Mansfield.We have always found the staff to be very friendly and the food to be excellent.The prices are very reasonable and we will continue to go there everytime we are in Mansfield.Many thanks to all the staff.

I arranged to meet a colleague here in the week for a meeting and arrived to a semi busy pub mostly in the front eating area. My colleague was seated in the back area and had already got a drink. I stood at both bars for quite a while alongside 2 women and didn't see a single member of staff even though we made lots of noise and shouted out for service. I decided after a while to not buy a drink and had the meeting without. Some time later a man appeared behind the bar and didn't take any notice of me having no drink. Think extensive training is required here and possibly more staff.

This might not have been the worst place I've ever been but it really is up there.

Since the change of management, the ambience ahs not exactly disappeared but has diminished, having said that the food was still of a high standard especially for the price brilliant!

We entered walking over cigarette butts and a dirty glass seated ourselves ordered and paid for our food and then a waitress who said she had worked there sometime admitted she didn’t know the menu so wasn’t able to tell us what she was giving us. My starter didn’t arrive and we had to ask for it. All the starters were good. Then the mains arrived my beef stew at nearly nine pounds was so small chips were hard inthe middle so not cooked gravy was cold and so was veg No desert or coffee for us just wanted to leave we have been a regular Sunday lunch visitor for years going most weeks but sadly won’t be returning again As a PS Sunday lunch menu was not available??? On a Sunday As the title says such a shame

We tried this pub as it is fairly local and looks inviting from the outside. Really wish I hadn’t. Now I know why it wasn’t full of diners.

Went here for a family meal. Prebooked for 10 people. When we got there the table we had booked was still in use (group did not leave until we had been there an hour) and we had to sit at separate tables along the sofa in the main bar area which was not very suitable at all. Meal was booked for 2pm but did not get our starters until 3.15pm even though the pub was nearly empty by then and only five of us were having a starter and these were very basic!

Went to the Black Bull first time in a long time with my sister, brother-law and mum and I have to say the meal was delicious. The place has all been redecorated inside and the outside has been done up as well, I must say that even though the outside has been black and white since I was a young girl it is now grey in colour I wasn't sure at first about the colour but it is growing on me. I will definitely go again.

Popped in on a Sunday after a swim, place has had a long need refit and looks well for it ! I had a mixed grill and Rachel had a beef Sunday dinner both were very nice but the table service was slightly lacking no knife or fork no sauces offered but all was resolved once we asked for them , we will return again soon

Went here with a couple of friends for a drink and catch up. Two of us decided to eat and both had scampi. It was ok but nothing to write home about. Just an average bar meal but not somewhere you want to eat for a special occasion.

Visited yesterday for lunch . Food was awful 6 of us for Lunch ,Waited more than an hour for meals to come out 1 by 1, Sunday lunch Roast pork was dry, mash was dry lumpy and under cooked Cabbage was brown ,Mixed grills One had no egg and Chicken was burnt ,Other had no Pea's Salad on meals was all dry ,Toddler meal was last out and cold. Yes we did complain and was offered to go back for a free Meal ,No thankyou Was also told Chef had finished and the staff was cooking ,Well you need a new Chef asap

Come heee regularly, staff are always really nice and friendly, the new landladies are very polite and really go out their way for you. The food and menu are great and also has quite a large gluten free menu which is great for my coeliac friend!! The atmosphere is also great every time I go in. Would highly recommend to anyone!!

We have been in England - the home of the chip - for over 10 weeks and we just dropped in to the Black Bull by chance. The chips were 9.8 on my chipometer and the best we have had in England so far. No one has yet score a perfect 10.

I went for a Sunday dinner. We waited over an hour for the food, when we asked where it was, we was told it would be a couple of minutes, 10 minutes later we asked again and explained that we’d been waiting over an hour already. It wasn’t very busy and we didn’t get an apology for the waiting time.

I had my graduation party here tonight and the staff were incredible! We had our own room and bar area so we didn't have to wait for drinks. The owners came to check everything was okay and asked how my graduation was. They handled everything in their stride, they took our orders from the table and brought all our meals out together (all hot and incredibly delicious!). I'm coeliac so I require gluten free, the menu is extensive and they have a gluten free fryer so I even had chips with my meal which I hardly ever get. The kitchen staff were incredibly careful with my food and I had no side effects. All of my guests commented on how amazing the food was. Honestly, myself and all of my guests would go back in a heartbeat!

Very surprised at the reviews from Sunday lunch a couple of days ago. The place was busy - there was a party of 12 in the other side - and there were no complaints there. And the main side was also busy. We were in a large party and had to wait a little while, but the food is all freshly prepared, not microwave meals, so of course you have to wait. Our meals were all spot on. Since the new managers have taken over my hubby and I have eaten here frequently with no complaints at all. Well done Janice, Margaret and team. We’ll be back again very soon!

We arrived on a Sunday around 1.00pm

l would like to make people aware of the Sunday lunch we had today at the Black Bull it was absolutely shocking. Have been before a few months ago and it was lovely but it as obviously changed hands the food was terrible. People was complaining and the landlord or landlady was leaving the complaint s to the young waitress to deal with who at one point was in tears. We went as a family and ordered and paid for our meals having been sat waiting for well over an hour we was told they had just about ran out of lamb which 3 of is had ordered ,but we could have some other meat as well as the lamb they had left so we said we would have pork even though the Lamb was £1 more expensive than the pork and also a free desert, half an hour after that we got our dinner which consisted of scraps of lamb and scraps of pork which I am sure they had scrapped the tin,the potatoes was hard and lumpy, gravy just like water and it said on menu unlimited vegetables never saw any extra vegetables or was even asked if we wanted any.Now to the puddings Apple & pear crumble it had never seen crumble it was a mush of pastry like stuff on top my son couldn't eat it discussing.I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone and we would definitely not be going back. PLEASE AVOID TERRIBLE MEAL

We arrived at 14:50 and ordered at the bar on arrival. Firstly, there was no beef and they’d ran out of coke. Our food didn’t arrive until 16:10 (an hour and twenty minutes after we ordered) and, at the time of placing our order, our expectations were not managed about the waiting time. I would also like to point out that it wasn’t that busy; there were several empty tables.

Visited with my grandparents a few days ago, a complete waste of our time, after they’ve enjoyed many dinners there sadly it’s now changed hands, the food looks nothing like the photos above, there’s a new menu in through Marston’s the food is not even average.. it’s poor. Recently visited a hospital patient who has a nicer jacket potato! No joke! Mine was microwaved only, not crisped up in an oven, the skin was like thin paper no taste at all, a table spoon of cheap beans, same again for the cheese not enough at all to flavour the potatoe and then a side salad that was almost embarrassing to serve, 1/2 leaves of lettuce half a slice of cucumber and 1 cherry tomatoe.. sent back! I would put more effort into meals I make at home!! So annoying when they expect you to be satisfied with it, no chef but I wouldn’t dare send food like that out to paying customers! I’d rather of paid £10 for the jacket and actually enjoyed it, it’s ok doing a cheap menu but then to expect your customers to be satisfied with cheap food if thats what you like then it’s your place, but the golden eagle and the foxglove are much nicer! Especially the foxglove. Staff friendly though so couldn’t moan about them.

Went for Sunday lunch, not sure if it's under new management or not. Decor looking a little tired. It was quiet even though it was nice weather. We all had Sunday best meal which was nice and plentiful. There was not a huge choice on the menu nor the specials board. The service was ok and we did not have to wait which was great and the price was ok.

I visited the Black Bull yesterday and it has changed hands the food was disgusting my friend had a jacket potatoe which came it was terribly small and burnt underneath it had tuna on it he had to leave it as it was not edible. I had a sandwich with whole grain bread and that was dry obviously had not been stored correctly. We left feeling hungry. Do not waste your money here the waitress was really rude and unfriendly daylight robbery.

Visited here on Saturday around 6 before it got busy, the staff are friendly.service was quick between courses which I like. The food was really nice and a good portion too!! The first pub meal that give you enough gravy with your meal without asking for more, really enjoyed it thankyou

After being recommended, we thought we’d try it out, the burger was extremely greasy, literally dripping through my fingers and leaving the plate with a greasy cold stream of fat, the taste was good, but that was seriously off putting, the garlic bread was dry and burnt, not amazing quality but well priced and friendly staff made the experience less disappointing

A massive thank you to Cath and team at the Black Bull Mansfield for hosting a 90th Birthday party for my gran and 20 guests. The tap room was the perfect size and on arrival has already been decorated with balloons, banners, all party decor...

Well if I'd of gone off some of these reviews i wouldn't have gone gladly i didn't. The staff couldn't be more friendlier and as for the meals they absolutely stunning and well priced. If could give them more stars i would.

I wanted to score this place good but there was only average or very good. I would say it is better than the average pub meal but I certainly wouldn't go as far as to say it was very good. I ate here with quite a large party. The portions were not a bad size and the food came quite quickly. I had scampi which was quite nice but a little overcooked for me. The chips were quite tasty but could have done with a little more cooking. The garden peas were rock hard and cold and the accompanying side salad lacked dressing. Overall the meal was good but could have been better.
