The best restaurants in United Kingdom serving British food

Fairly average fish and chip shop - I’ve had worse but I’ve definitely had better. The chips weren’t very well cooked quite long enough being a bit soggy with no crispness, and the cod had quite a thick batter that was a bit stodgy on the inside; both were quite greasy. The fish itself tasted ok, but completely disintegrated as soon as a knife and fork touched it. The fish was already cooked when I came into the shop but I was assured it was recently cooked (they would say that wouldn’t they?) Cod, small chips and mushy peas cost £10.50. The portion sizes were generous. The food was placed in a plastic bag rather than a paper one which is never a good sign, and would have made it go even soggier if I didn’t remove it as soon as I got to the car. Ok if you’re local and don’t want too drive far but I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to get food from here when there are several better options such as Skippers not far away.

Since leaving London I have missed the small independent bakeries and this one is the answer to my prayers. Great selection of food from hot food and pasties to sweet treats and cakes and priced unbelievably well 😋

What a lovely little cafe, with stunning views over Falmouth Harbour from the rear. Cosy relaxed and a little eclectic gives this place quite a different feel. Good service, good coffee and a tasty bacon and hash brown bap.

Lovely service, very polite. The food was amazing. The cookie dough was so moist and warm. And OH MY the chocolate matilda cake was so moist and rich and goey. Would 100% recommend

Disappointed by the manager. He was rude and does not know how to treat customers. Used to go there a lot but the atmosphere isn't what it used to be. There are much friendly places in Shifnal to have a drink.

The best fish and chips I've had for a long time. The food is excellent and the staff very welcoming especially Sam and the lady with her. A lovely place to meet up with friends.

Does the boss ever smile? Food was okay but the boss rushing around with a face like thunder. Doesn't matter how busy you are but doesn't take much to smile

Here’s an updated review: We had an absolutely wonderful experience at this restaurant! The food was truly outstanding! I can honestly say it was one of the nicest meals we have had out for a long time! There was an impressive variety of choices on the menu! What really set this place apart, though, was the incredible service. The owner/waiter was exceptional, going above and beyond to make sure our children were happy and comfortable. He was so attentive and kind, making us feel welcome and ensuring that nothing was too much trouble. We left feeling happy and already can’t wait to return. This restaurant is a true gem, and we highly recommend it!

Had a lovely evening yesterday at The Square. Busy with lots of atmosphere, papas was delicious. My favourite dishes were Burrata beautifully presented and Whitebait. Loved the way you could order a couple of dishes then more as you wanted. Ample wines and spirits. It would be nice to see an alcohol free wine on the menu. Staff friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

Called in to get a dessert as we were visiting a friend for lunch and wanted something special. Bought some pieces of cake, which looked nice. Unfortunately, they tasted a bit stale and rather heavy. The buttercream icing was a solid slab. Not at all what we'd been hoping for. We also bought (and were charged for) a sourdough, which turned out to be a standard white loaf when we cut into at home. We won't be back.

Passing through on way back from holiday. Stopped for morning break. Delicious freshly baked scone and coffee. Lovely and clean quiches looked great. What a great find would recommend.

We stayed here with our two dogs for one night prior to attending the Welsh Kennel Club Champ Show. Our room was really well equipped and very nicely laid out, and very clean. We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff. The full english breakfast was spot on, and they went out of their way to ensure it was ready for us promptly as we had to head off to the show. We will definitely stay here again.

If you want top quality fish and chis, freshly cooked, then this is the place. A hard working couple who offer a friendly service. We'll be back.
