Great spot for lunch or coffee!

Superbly cooked food with excellent accompanying wine in a family run establishment, off the main road but only a few steps away from it. Easy to find. Highly recommended. Relaxing dining experience.

Excelente comida cocinada en un restaurante familiar. Vinos bien maridados. Mi esposo tomó la ensalada de carne de res, y dijo que era la carne más deliciosa y tierna que podía recordar haber comido. Elegí Eglefino ahumado rarebit. Los colores, la combinación de sabores y las texturas se presentaron exquisitamente. Agua de boca. El pudín de toffee pegajoso, servido generosamente con crema y helado, es un postre tentador y sabroso. Un montón de Drambuie es un gran acompañamiento. Dave y su familia y el pequeño trabajo en equipo tuvieron que hacer de este un lugar memorable para comer.

Service was excellent and the food was even better!!! Will definitely be back. Officially now a go to! :)

El menú festivo estaba delicioso, justo lo que necesitábamos para una puesta al día central con algo de comida. Todo era muy sabroso y brillante relación calidad-precio. No puedo superar la ubicación, he estado un par de veces, volveré, lo recomiendo encarecidamente.

Vino a picar un bocado mientras compraba. Normalmente parece ocupado cuando he pasado, pero más tranquilo hoy, así que elige las mesas. Menús y especiales rápidamente traídos mencionados. Partner optó por la sopa del día y unas tostadas de queso definitivas, mientras yo me decidí por los pasteles de pescado (especial diario) y las patatas fritas. La sopa estaba sabrosa y venía con un poco de rollo tostado. Ultimate toastie fue cargado con queso en pan grueso y obtuvo el sello de aprobación Los pasteles de pescado también eran muy buenos. Vale la pena visitarlo.

High quality, fresh food. Definitely a hidden gem. The price was very reasonable for the quality of restaurant. Waitress was extremely helpful and the restaurant was very accommodating. I had a food intolerance so they made my dish to order to ensure I was able to have it. Will definitely return.

Great wee find. Came for supper Saturday evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. Portion sizes were perfect a good amount of choices on the menu, something for all. The satay sauce was amazing. Staff were also extremely helpful and cheery. Excited to come back!

Un amigo nos dijo que nos reuniéramos con ella en The City... resultó que se refería a la ciudad de Aberdeen, no a este restaurante en particular, pero este restaurante en particular es donde terminamos, así que cenamos allí! ¡Feliz accidente! Comimos aquí con amigos para una noche vegana. Este restaurante no es vegano y tiene principalmente opciones para carne y pescado. Sin embargo anoche pusieron un menú de especialidades veganas. Sinceramente, esta es probablemente la mejor comida vegana que hemos comido en Aberdeen. Todos los platos sabían delicioso y parecían apetitosos. El chef es creativo y fue un placer que en realidad se mimara para la elección; arancini de zanahoria con hummus de zanahoria, gazpacho de tomate asado lento con bhajis de cebolla crujiente, rollos de primavera en caldo de curry verde, koftas de remolacha y tofu, pastel de queso matcha verde japonés con chocolate y coco, una increíble £ 25 por cabeza durante 3 platos. Grabbed a philly cheesesteak with the soup of the day and was the best lunch I’ve had in a long time. Finished it off with an apple streusel which was great too

Visité con cuatro amigos ayer para almorzar. El chico que nos atendió fue muy amable y muy eficiente. Todos teníamos diferentes cosas para comer y todos disfrutamos! No leí bien el menú y vino con salsa barbacoa que realmente no me gusta! Iba a intentar rasparlo pero nuestro servidor dijo que no, ¡te conseguiré uno nuevo! ¡No hay muchos lugares que harían eso, ya que después de todo fue mi error! Los precios de la comida y la bebida eran excelentes y será uno de nuestros lugares ahora! Gracias por un par de horas muy agradables 10 / 10

Found it quite expensive for pensioner and child.entry and cafe

Fui a tomar el té de la tarde con un amigo. La comida era buena - negativo en la comida era que no había crema para los bollos - solo mantequilla y mermelada. El sandwich Victoria era un poco denso. El lugar es precioso y muy central. Servidor, no estoy seguro si era el gerente pero no estaba muy atento, nunca vino a preguntar si todo estaba bien o necesitábamos algo. Tuve que ir al bar a pedir más agua caliente para el té, pero darle su merecido nos dio platos limpios para nuestros pasteles.

Had coffee and a scone was really nice then ordered a couple of glasses of wine, very nice, place was clean, service good, then i went to the toilets and you could have written your name on the dust on the skirting boards, such a shame really as toilets have let this place down also the screens are still up from covid???

The menu appears to be new, but the food was excellent. I had the Tuscan Chicken Penne with the Sticky Toffee Pudding and it was delicious. Highly recommend.

Got a voucher from my Daughter for Tea and Prosecco. I had never seen or heard of this place before. I will certainly be spreading the word. My Partner and me had a lovely time, the food was delicious and the staff were very friendly. We will definitely be going back and bringing family with us.

My partner and I went to the City Bar & Diner last night for dinner and it was fantastic! Friendly and attentive customer service. The food was fresh, clearly made with love and great portion sizes. The Thai coconut bisque was amazing! This place is a lovely family run business, the owner Dave checked in with us and is such a lovely guy. Will definitely be returning in the near future!

Excellent food. Deceptive outside and tucked away from the main street. Was fairly quiet for a Saturday evening. Staff were tentative and polite. Would recommend the Highland Chicken. Very tasty!

A great find while wandering around looking for somewhere to eat on a Friday night. Three lovely meals, burger, chicken burger and a schnitzel. Lovely fresh food, and friendly staff. The room itself was a tad cold but everything elss was warm, including the welcome

Far and away one of the best restaurants in Aberdeen - the staff are really friendly and helpful, and the food is incredible!

Not our first time and certainly not our last. Food is excellent and very well presented. We were shown a preview of the new menu (as of the end of April) and we can’t wait to try some of the new dishes out. Shame this hidden gem isn’t better advertised or better lit from the main drag of Union Street - it’s well worth looking for, it’s only at the back door of M&S!

Hired this place out for my Mums birthday, set menu. We had a fantastic night. The food was great and waiting and bar staff attentive but gave us space to chill and enjoy each other’s company. The Drinks were a high standard also, The Cocktails were going down a treat with the Ladies, Hidden gem for sure 5+++

This was my first Christmas lunch of 2023. My friend had been here before but a first visit for me. Our table was booked for a Friday evening. We took advantage of the Christmas lunch deal, two courses for 24.95. The restaurant was surprisingly quiet for a Friday but then we were early evening. This was an excellent choice and the service was excellent also.

Another amazing meal out here tonight. Lovely food, great value and staff who always go above and beyond to make an enjoyable night out. Highly recommend

Why this place isn’t full every night of the week I don’t know! The food is first class and the service excellent. We don’t live in Aberdeen so can only come when we visit family here, but if we did would come at least once a week. It probably doesn’t get much ‘passing trade’ as it’s just off Union Street, but believe me, it’s well worth looking for. Go ….. and have the Chicken Balti (better than any I’ve had in any Indian restaurant)

I visited that place by accident because we had our connection flight canceled. We picked this place and were really under big impresion of quality of food, way of serving it, tastes. Service was really good and I can only say good words about the place !

City Bar….Thank you so much!!! ❤️ We had our wedding reception here on Tuesday 12th September 2023 and it was the best day ever, made even more special by these guys who worked so hard to make our small wedding reception so special, thanks Dave, Helen and co!!! From Helen setting up the tables , my decor and table decorations, to the fabulous 3 course proper fresh home made wedding dinner, our day was just perfect, and the food was fabulous 🍽️👍🏼 Tables rearranged after our meal and we had room for a DJ area and a dance floor 💃🏽🕺 We had a blast, and so did all our guests (even though there was some cheeky iPad watching of the Scotland v England footy fans), the dance floor was busy and our glow sticks were glowing!!! If you’ve never tried this hidden gem in Aberdeen…. Just go and see for yourself 👌🏼 Thanks again Dee and Alan Williamson 👰🏼‍♀️🤵🏼‍♂️❤️💙

Really Nice Diner. Considered going for a long time, but no menu online made us stay away. Covid & Flu jab today, so decided to try as only 5 mins from old John Lewis building. We were really impressed with the food, the staff & the feel of the place. The staff were friendly and helpful. The Cheese Steak sandwich was really nice. The chips had a nice crunch and fluffy on the inside. The Mac cheese burger was lovely, and the star of the show was the onion rings. They are not on the menu, but we recommend trying them. Everything was fresh and we will return soon. Update: back for Covid and flu jab. Still really good, everything fresh, service good. They just need to get their website up and running or stick the menu on current site, especially for the evening menu.

I had a really lovely meal with colleagues to celebrate a retirement. The service was good and food was lovely. There was 7 of us and we all ordered something different and all ended the meal with mostly clean plates. The only food that was left was because people were too full to finish! Has a nice atmosphere and not over priced for freshly cooked local produce.

We booked a table for Friday night thinking it would be busy, it wasn’t….. but it should be!!! Decided on here as my brother was reminiscing about his days in the St Nicholas house darts team, I wasn’t convinced, but so glad we went. Fantastic menu, first class service and the food was first class. Freshly cooked and delicious, I honestly can’t speak any more highly about it. We will be back as I was so undecided about so many things on the menu I want to go back to try them all…. The chicken satay starter was exceptional.

If you haven't eaten at the City Bar & Diner, you are missing out on a brilliant place to eat. I have been for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, every time, the food was delicious and good value for money. I now go there every month for a catch up with my sisters, one of which is a coeliac. Dave always provides an excellent gluten free dish for her whether it be a lunch, afternoon tea or dinner. The staff are lovely and the service is always excellent every time, even when the diner is very busy. For a city centre bar & diner, the drinks are also very reasonably priced. This is definitely my favourite place to eat in Aberdeen.

Went here for dinner for Aberdeen Restaurant Week where 3 courses were on offer for £20. Overall, the food was good. I had the chicken caesar salad bon bons to start which were nice. The meatball lasagne for a main which was also good and the tiramisu cheesecake for desert, it was ok but nothing too exciting. We ordered some drinks which unfortunately didn't come until after our starters (and after we reminded the staff). It wasn't a big deal but a tad bizarre that our drinks were completely forgotten, especially since the place was very quiet. Apart from that small issue the staff were friendly and attentive. It probably didn't help but that the restaurant was quiet, but there seemed to be a real lack of atmosphere. Perhaps the decor could be livened up or the music freshened up, I don't know exactly why but the experience felt very dull. Another downside was the portion size, the portions seemed very small and perhaps a way for the place to get around offering a set menu for £20. Overall a mixed experienced, I would be 50/50 if I would go back.

Visit mainly in mornings. Service always friendly and efficient. Breakfast menu is tasty and well cooked with good selection of cooked brekkies and morning rolls. Not tried pancakes yet but sure they're good. Nice choice of seating tables or comfy seats and couches

Ate at the City Bar on Saturday night. The food was superb, as it always is and the staff friendly & efficient. Had the haggis Bon Bon salad to start and Balmoral Chicken as my main - yum. It wasn’t busy, which given the brilliant food & service is surprising. Will definitely be back to City Bar, a real gem of a restaurant.

Nice restaurant and excellent staff , not expensive and great food at realistic prices , small and large portions available. Fish and chips with a light tempura like batter was fantastic , go on treat yourselves it's well worth a visit. Only downside , no draught beers or cider ?

This review is based only on the customer service, the food was faultless, very very good. This is the second visit where the same waitress was completely over the top, made my friend and I feel very uncomfortable, so very false, even patronising chat, she insisted calling us gorgeous over and over, making us cringe and we felt embarrassed for her ! We were unsure why she was acting like that, we thought perhaps she was trying to replace the lovely Polly who used to work there ? Polly was a lovely genuine bubbly fun person who must be sadly missed. Unsure if we will return, so disappointed, but she spoiled what could have been a lovely lunch with a friend,

We had a large booking and despite not quite having high enough numbers to have the venue exclusively we couldn’t have asked for a better night. From beginning to end the service was outstanding; staff were efficient and fun! The food was delicious and timings were spot on. We’ll definitely be back. Thank you 😊

I had never been to the City Bar before. However, my wife wanted to go there for her birthday dinner. This we duly did on the 11th of June 2022. The place was quiet, more than made up for by the lovely food, which was expertly prepared. I had the stuffed mushrooms as a starter while my wife had the Haggis Bon bon Ceaser salad. The starters were followed by a steak which was cooked just the way I like it, as was my wife's. Finally, for dessert I had the apple crumble, coz butterscotch custard is a thing, who knew? My wife tackled her passion fruit cheesecake with a passion. For drinks we had two glasses of wine. My wife had Cherry Bakewell cocktail, which was very tasty, while I had a dark rum with coke. The bill came to £94, which was quite reasonable given the lovely food that we had. The staff were friendly but not in your face. I can highly recommend this establishment, and will definitely be returning.
