The Stable Tavern in Shropshire

Popped in to the Stable Tavern as we were hunting for a place for lunch. We were delighted - really impressed. Good choice on the menu, but all three of us wanted something a little lighter so went for baguettes / ciabattas. Mine was beef and stilton. It was tasty, really tasty - top quality beef but the thing that stood out was that there was no holding back on portion size. Often you go out and get a baguette and it's small and served with a really pathetic side salad. Not here. The baguette was large, fresh. It came with really good chips and a really good salad. A real meal. Had some desserts for afterwards. Lemon tart and Lemon meringue pie. Both with lovely ice cream. My daughter and her friend were equally delighted with their choices - if you're passing and want a lunch - stop here.

Excellent Sunday lunch. Very filling with a lovely choice of 1,2 or 3 courses. We had a large party and they coped very well. Book in advance.

The food was brilliant. The steak was the best I have eaten out in a long time. Knocks spots off Miller and Carter. Lovely old worldy pub Very nicely priced. It’s a little gem. Will definitely go back again when in the area

Food was really nice ,the order got slightly mixed up but only a small blip and staff are really friendly. The meals are large portions and plenty of choice of puddings .

The best steak i have had in many years. Cooked perfectly, tasty and lean. All of the accompnimments to the meal were also perfectly cooked. The beer batter onion rings were amazing so were the mushrooms. The servings were large and we couldnt eat all of if although we wanted to. The young lady who served us was cheerful, very helpful and catered for any requests with a smile, which is unusual these days. All in all a first class experience and would go back in a heart beat. Thanks to all at the Stable for a lovely night.

Once again another fab meal , never disappoints, delicious food , great selection , huge portions and the best wine glasses in cleobury !

Twenty four of us hungry walkers descended on this pub for lunch, all pre-ordering something different. We were greeted with such friendliness and were soon seated and served with drinks. The fantastic! food was out very quickly and lovely and hot! Everyone of our group said their meal was delicious!

WOW. What a fantastic sunday lunch we all had. We was Visting friends in Cleobury Mortimer .The roast Beef and pork and salmon meals were superb. Staff were so friendly. And the pub was lovely place and clean . Highly reccomend this Gem of a pub And i did not mention the sweets . So nice . Yum Home made James

A fantastic place, the food is superb, the staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. If you have food allergies or special requirements you can eat here in confidence. You will need to book, as it does not seat many and is always busy.

Food is fantastic, and priced very reasonably. They also have some fantastic and well kept ales. A favourite for locals definitely.

Called in on the off-chance we may get a table this evening. Managed to get a booking for 7.30pm.... So glad we did! Staff, food and service was great. Lovely atmosphere from a couple enjoying a pint with their black lab, a group of locals enjoying a mid-week natter and a birthday celebration as well. We enjoyed starters and mains. Great food that was reasonable for an unplanned jolt to the local. Our lab puppy enjoyed the fuss too.

Went for a Thursday lunch, £7.50 for a full pork roast, such great value and the food was really good, some of the best pork around, wasn't dry at all was juicy and nice. Definitely recommend a bargain lunch here!

My partner an I went the stable tavern for a birthday meal the girl who served us was lovely. We ordered our food but was so unhappy with what came out to our table. The steak was so tuff an dry / chips looked terrible an tasted horrible didn’t eat them. I had mash potatoes an they were cold an dry. After a couple of mouthfuls we decided to leave without eating the meal we had the steak put in a doggie bag to give me dogs. This birthday meal cost us £60 an we feel so let down an out of pocket. Never going again

Booked here based on a recommendation and wasn't disappointed. Decent Sunday dinner at reasonable price and friendly service. Too many potatoes, but wouldn't complain about anything. I had roast pork with stuffing, my dad had roast beef, both served with boiled and roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage. Dad had fish goujons and I had honeycomb cheesecake for dessert.

Faultless! Amazing homemade food (generous portions indeed!); excellent drink selection- Sauvignon was beautiful as well as stocking the popular ale ‘Ludlow Gold’; lovely environment- a pub full of character and friendly and welcoming staff- Rachel made us feel so comfortable and nothing was too much trouble. We had the tiger king prawn starter and a rump steak with peppercorn sauce- all cooked to perfection. This place is the gem of Cleobury!

Friendly service at this traditional style pub

We turned up on a Saturday evening and asked for a table for 4 and were quickly found a table, which was surprising. The pub had an old fashioned charm and lots of character, and a friendly appearance. But once the orders came, we couldn’t have asked for more. My son and I had a steak each, my wife had a Belly Pork and my daughter had chicken nuggets off the children’s menu. All were well-sized portions and very well cooked. The drinks were excellent, I particularly liked the Ludlow Gold cask bitter. The waiting staff were attentive especially as we are not regulars, without being overbearing. The only downside was that the pub ran out of the puddings my children wanted, so they had to have ice cream. Overall it was great value for money and I would thoroughly recommend.

Really good value pub meal with great service in a friendly atmosphere. Highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding with custard. Can’t wait to return.

Great place to go with a big group of people or just on a couples date. The range of ciders and beers are amazing! I recommend the Lillys Beesting Perry! The food is wonderful and fresh. As we were a group we grabbed a load of the charcuterie boards followed by a pizza each! Definitely worth going to!

Four of us have been for a quick lunch it was absolutely amazing value and quite delicious. Definitely would highly recommend.

Went with my mate and his parents, little gem, service was spot on could not have been better At time of writing it was £6.00 for a main meal and around 8/10 meals on offer, We had different mains on the menu all cooked perfect and went down well This place keeps it simply and works really well enjoyed my visit Also had puddings and was lush Definitely recommend and will be back when in the area Well done peeps 10/10

Found this pub whilst on holiday, hpa and Ludlow gold on pull, plus Robinson if you enjoy the cider. Always get a friendly welcome from the bar staff, who are talkative and have to say very nice looking ... if only I was 10 years younger ok maybe 25 🤣

Had some lovely lunches in here but the last couple of times us and our dogs have been in we haven't had the most warm welcome. It's probably because we hadn't booked but the bar area was empty . Never had problems before. Were told to hurry up and order . Women seem stressed but a bit unprofessional.

We had a lovely meal at the stables today. We enjoyed a roast of the day to ham egg and chips, pie of the day and pork loin, followed by delicious deserts.

The food was good plus hot and tasty. The staff were hardworking and friendly.

Came here for a festive meal with family and cannot fault anything from staff to food to value.. We were greeted with a smile before being shown to our table where our drinks order was taken immediately. The festive menu was bought to us and then it was hard to decide what to have. We had a mixture of starters but we all plumped for the turkey dinner(which was delicious). We then all had a dessert(just about managed to eat it). As stated at the beginning it was definitely value for money. A big thank you to all the staff as they work so hard but always with a smile.

Had booked a table for lunch here as part our ladies weekend away in Cleobury Mortimer. Received a lovely warm welcome from Rachel and thoroughly enjoyed a roast beef lunch with plenty of fresh vegetables followed by Sticky Toffee pudding with cream absolute heaven all...

OMG absolutely fabulous saturday lunch. Roast beef dinner with beautifully cooked fresh veg. Followed by lemon meringue pie and ice cream both for under 10.00. so so impressed . Rachel eh served us was amazing would highly recommend 5 stars to the stables 😊😊

I have drank and had meals here a number of times. Usually has a good selection of cask ales possibly 4 at a time with unusually these days one of them being a Mild. The food is good with large portions at a reasonable price.

Had a cracking meal with friends on a Saturday night with excellent service. However, the real ale they serve in this pub is pretty bad to say the least. Worst pint of HPA I have ever had. Why can't the landlord look after his beer as it is generally the mainstay of a pub. Unfortunately one or two of the locals I have spoken with think the beer needs sorting out so it was not just me I'm afraid.
