The food, staff and atmosphere were phenomenal, staff were friendly and attentive couldn’t do more for us. From the moment we arrived we felt well accommodated, the front of house staff were friendly and polite, The food was absolutely delicious, and the portions were just right. Theres also a small dog shop, which was so lovely! Free pool table, we only left half an hour ago and we already cant wait to go back, hopefully when the weather allows us to sit in the gorgeous little beer garden! 🪴

Spectacular friendly service, with staff that were very accommodating of our kids even when they found a lost dog outside sand kept asking questions about it. Food was good and portions were generous. Unfortunately the decoration of the pub wasn’t very in keeping with its environment, looking more like a faux-country pub than an actual one.

Staying at the local campsite and decided to walk here for Sunday lunch. Well worth the walk (approx a mile along the lanes with a few steep inclines!) The pub is immaculately clean and has instant curb appeal. Lovely beer garden, a little shop selling dog related stuff. Staff are really friendly and the pub has a lovely feel about modern meets traditional. Decent beers and great food. Sunday roast was excellent and good value £13-50 for quality food. Sweet was great too. So good we booked to go again.

Omg. Beautiful pub in a beautiful setting. So clean and fresh inside but still retained all it's character. The food was out of this world and the staff and management were amazing. In the middle of nowhere but believe me it's worth the drive....... honestly

Excellent service, big menu, great food, good portion sizes, ample indoor seating and tables in the garden. Dog friendly, there's even a little dog shop with treats etc. Can't recommend this place enough!

Great country pub in a lovely setting

We had a Christmas meal for a party of 18 and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. There was a lovely Christmassy atmosphere, the food and service was faultless, excellent value would definitely recommend!

Absolutely incredible service and food! From the moment we walked in, our party of 5 was looked after. The staff knew when to come over, when to leave us, and how to handle our many (I'm so sorry!) food intolerances. Not only were we catered too, but the food was beyond our expectations and at a very reasonable price too. Highly recommended for ANYONE, but especially for gluten/vegan/dairy free people!

Just great. Food is great, pub itself is presented. Really lovely staff and very accommodating to children and dogs. We were a large loud engagement party and we were all impressed with them, so much that some of us went back for a drink the next day.

Hiking weekend in Dartmouth, just googled local pubs near to us, as we were driving around as not best place for signals lol and this place came up, great pub, staff were proper lovely, the food was very tasty and very reasonably priced. Would definitely visit again. Many thanks all from two weary walkers.

Had a meal here towards the end of our holiday it was so good we went back the next night (sadly that was the last night of our holiday). They were actually hosting a wedding that night but still had time to accommodate normal customers.

Just visited the rising sun woodland lovely referb very comfortable and welcoming, food very excellent an reasonably priced, staff friendly and helpful well worth a visit.

A lovely dog friendly pub, with a range of natural dog treats on sale. Food portion sizes were big & food was piping hot as well as being delicious. Staff were all very friendly & helpful. Even though it was really busy & coming to the end of lunchtime service, they still managed to squeeze us in. I would definitely come back if we were in the area again.

I came here on a Friday night with my family to get dinner and drinks. The vibe was very friendly, it seems like it is a good family place for dinner and drinks. The service was very friendly, the food is great and there is a great selection of drinks.

We used to visit this pubs few years ago and loved it. It has now been modernised and it’s still fabulous. Went for a Sunday lunch and the food was fabulous, the staff were very helpful and it’s a great spacious pub. Would recommend anyone to visit this hidden gem.

This is our second family visit to the Rising Sun, this time for Mother's Day lunch. We had an amazing meal, excellent quality food, service is exceptional, nothing is too much trouble. I would definitely recommend coming for a visit you will not be disappointed!! Just to top it off the price is very reasonable we are always surprised our family of five, 3 adults and 2children, 2 course meal with drinks, under £90.

This is an absolute gem of a pub. We wanted to try somewhere different that catered well for vegan/vegetarians and I'm so pleased we came here! The service was incredible and the food did not disappoint - honestly one of the tastiest veggie meals I've had when eating out. Will definitely be returning. Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Myself and my family have eaten at this pub numerous times over the past year or so. The new owners have a done a fantastic job of renovating the place, the food is excellent and you couldn’t ask for a nicer countryside setting. Today we had Christmas lunch and it was brilliant. Thank you again, we had a lovely day with you.

Lovely place! We come here when we can. Very welcoming and friendly staff with great service and great food and drink. We had our Christmas dinner here and absolutely loved it. The gardens lovely, it's a vast outdoor area, theres even somewhere to park your horse (post and rail with hay nets on the grass). If this place was closer to newton abbot town it would be packed all the time but it's in the beautiful countryside and makes a great stop for running, cycling, riding, car or motorbike clubs. The family have put alot of work into making an amazing pub, well worth a visit! The menu's changed since covid but the food is still spot on. Its been great seeing this pub get more popular as people discover it but its surprisingly spacious inside and never feels overcrowded even when it's busy. Highly recommended 👌

First visit in over 5 year, and what a magnificent change. The Rising Sun is now a modern light and airy Pub selling unpretentious great food. With 7 people eating we had a good range of the menu from traditional gammon to Mediterranean chicken flatbread, each plate of food was plentiful and delicious. We will be coming back again.

Quite often i go to Ashburton through Denbury and stop here for a pint. On a lovely sunny day the view is quite hard to beat. Always a good pint, can't comment on the food though when i've seen it being brought out it looks great.

Superb customer service and wonderful atmosphere! All the staff were professional, friendly and went above an beyond to cater for us. No wonder it was buzzing with customers. I'm hoping that when we next come, they will have been able to put in the garden games that they hope to once Covid had calmed down. 🤞🏼 Will defiantly be going back but will probably try to book next time to ensure a table as it seemsa popular place.

We had 2 families eat and drink in this wonderful pub. The staff were amazing, very kind and extremely attentive. The food was fantastic and we all had such a lovely experience. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quality meal with fantastic service. Such a lovely setting too! Excellent prices too! We will be back!

We have been here a couple of times now and the food and service is fantastic. Really can not fault the place and will be back again soon. They also have a good selection of vegetarian options which is good for my daughter. They are also willing to adapter the meal like giving smaller portion of a main meal for a child and reducing the cost. Will defiantly be back. Sorry there’s no photo I was too hungry 😀

A fantastic gem of a pub, restaurant and dining with excellent food, exquisite gardens and a relaxing venue. It really is Devon’s best kept secret. Guaranteed to keep you coming back time and time again. We’ve tried so many of the so called Best Pubs in Devon and The Rising Sun has to be in the top 10 for us.

Great out of the way country pub!

Pleasant pub in a tucked away location. Enjoyed a tasty salad bowl and good coffee too. The young waiters were polite and courteous. Highly recommended!

Bank holiday weekend rang every pub local fully booked went to this one no one hardly there lots of bar staff no wonder why cheap bookers food overpriced drinks could’ve gone to the local burger van I wish hungry horse was not so busy this weekend

What a great find! Went there after a quick Google search for a pub off the A30 and were well rewarded. Lovely building and a warm welcome. Great beers and although we didn't eat, the food looked good and other diners we were very enthusiastic about it. We'll be back!

Whilst staying for a few days at Parkers Farm Caravans & Cottages - mile and half down the hill, we were giving details of this pub/restaurant by Parkers Farm owner. We didn't need to book a table, walked in on the off chance, tend to miss the busy times when eating anyway. Pub in great location, rural with views, recently (during Covid closure) this has been refurbished and under new owner management. Spacious seating, warm and welcoming. It was a warm evening - tables and seating areas outside were in use.Food great and service excellent.Have pinned this one on our map for when we return to the area.

Spent a lovely hour or so this evening, food was lovely as was the beer. Staff are friendly and accommodating even in these "different times". Fully recommend that you visit, good food, good beer, lovely staff and all in a tucked away rural setting which is not going to empty your wallet.

Had such a lovely experience, I usually am working in the kitchen so I see the behind the scenes, but to be relaxed, made to feel very comfortable and enjoying a lovely meal. The food was amazing, even better than it looks and it always looks amazing every time I see it leave to go to it’s customer. Highly recommended, I love working here and am very proud of working here!
